Teraz przyszła pora na „Po polowaniu” – najnowszy obraz włoskiego filmowca-intelektualisty, w którym główne role grają Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg i Ayo Edebiri. This week and next, Film Comment is reporting from the picturesque shores of the Lido, where the Venice Film Festival takes place each year. This year's edition features new films by many major auteurs, including Noah Baumbach, Luca Guadagnino, Yorgos Lanthimos, Laura Poitras, and more. For our second episode from the city of canals, Film Comment Editor Devika Girish invited critics Tim Grierson and Katie McCabe to talk about recent festival premieres, including Guadagnino's After the Hunt, Park Chan-wook's No Other Choice, László Nemes's Orphan, and Poitras and Mark Obenhaus's Cover-Up. Stay tuned for more Venice coverage, providing everything you need to know about the 2025 edition.
A proposito di Corea: Park Chan-wook diverte con l'assurdo No Other Choice.
In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Michael Guadagnino III—a longtime chiropractor, author of Fitness Over 50, 60, 70, and Beyond, and just an all-around guy who gets it when it comes to health, family, and purpose. Dr. G has been helping people get healthier for over 30 years, but what really stands out is his heart for people who feel like they've missed their chance to get fit or feel good again. Whether you're just starting, restarting, or pushing forward in your 50s, 60s, or 70s, this episode is full of real, practical takeaways. We talk about: Why he left a successful practice to be present for his kids How small changes and consistency lead to big results Why your age shouldn't define your fitness What inspired his book and how it's helping people take action The cool things he's built in his hometown—pickleball courts, walking paths, outdoor fitness gear—for adults who want to keep moving This one's for anyone who's ever thought, “Is it too late to start?” Dr. G says no way—and lives it every day.

I want to podcast with you. Without speaking. On this episode of Deep Cut Upkeep we step into 1950s Mexico City and dive into the lush world of Luca Guadagnino's Queer. Wilson expands more on his love for the film and why it topped his 2024 film list. Eli talks about the narrative constraints of this (bio)pic about William S. Burroughs. Ben draws links between Queer and Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. Together, we talk about performance, Guadagnino's eye for style, debate that Ayahuasca sequence, and end the episode with a quick round of Luca Guadagnino power rankings. He explains that his interest in psychology, filmmaking, and literature helps inform his approach to queer narratives so of course I ask him who his favorite queer authors and filmmakers are. He explains why he praised Guadagnino's Queer in his Gay and Lesbian Review article, and how the film nicely portrays the themes of loneliness and unrequited love. As a William S. Burroughs expert (the author of the Queer novel), Brian compares/contrasts the novel and the film adaptation. Then, Brian discusses his new novel Julian's Debut and explains how its premise is inspired by real-life interactions. He then explains the ethical implications of memoir writing and autofiction which is a genre that blurs the lines between reality and fabrication. Brian then gets into the legacy of author Edmund White, whose memoir he adapted into a graphic novel. This episode highlights the complexities of being a gay writer in the publishing industry. In this first episode of our three-part conversation with 1985 U.S. Women's Open Champion Kathy Guadagnino (Baker), we tee off with a delightful surprise—singing happy birthday to Kathy on the very day of our interview. What follows is a heartfelt and revealing look at the early chapters of a champion's life.Born in Albany, New York, Kathy reflects on her childhood split between upstate New York and Florida, where her father's love of golf first planted the seeds of her future in the game. She shares colorful memories of backyard putting contests, nickel wagers to hit past a tree, and the backyard bunker that shaped her early skills. Listeners will hear how her father's gentle persistence and passion for sports—not to mention his role as CEO of a swimming pool company—steered Kathy toward golf.Kathy recounts the story of her reluctant but steady climb into competitive golf, from family vacations to her first state tournament, where she surprised even herself with a runner-up finish. She candidly discusses the challenges of being a latecomer to the game and the pivotal role her father played in recognizing and nurturing her talent. We follow her rise through amateur golf—state wins, national events, and early U.S. Women's Open experiences—culminating in her time at the University of Tulsa. Along the way, Kathy reflects on her early struggles with match play, her mixed emotions about golf during her teen years, and the faith that would eventually reshape her purpose and passion for the game. From Ferris wheels to fairways, this episode offers a unique glimpse into the formative years of a major champion whose journey was anything but conventional. In this second installment of our three-part conversation with 1985 U.S. Women's Open champion Kathy Guadagnino (Baker), we journey deep into the most defining moment of her golf career—and the faith that carried her through it.Kathy recounts the pivotal decision to pursue professional golf, guided by a strong spiritual calling and a leap of faith at LPGA Q-School. Listeners will be drawn into the tension and triumph of that qualifying experience, where she tied for low honors alongside Juli Inkster. Her vivid storytelling brings to life the unique pressures of playing for your future, and the fierce internal battles that often define great performances. The heart of the episode is Kathy's inspiring and emotional retelling of her 1985 U.S. Open win at Baltusrol. From a quiet moment listening to a cassette tape that seemed to foreshadow something bigger, to the surreal vision during a Tuesday practice round, Kathy shares how her faith and focus shaped the outcome. With candor and warmth, she reveals the tension of the final round, her strategic mindset, and how birdies and bogeys mixed with divine nudges and personal resolve led her to a career-defining victory.Beyond the ropes, Kathy opens up about life on tour as a mother, balancing professional competition with raising children, including playing while pregnant and pushing for better accommodations for moms on tour. This episode is more than a recap of a great golf win—it's a heartfelt look at purpose, resilience, and a deep belief that golf was just one part of a greater plan.Join us for an unforgettable conversation with one of the game's most grounded and gracious champions.Give Bruce & Mike some feedback via Text.Support the showFollow our show and/or leave a review/rating on: Our Website https://www.forethegoodofthegame.com/reviews/new/ Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fore-the-good-of-the-game/id1562581853 Spotify Podcasts https://open.spotify.com/show/0XSuVGjwQg6bm78COkIhZO?si=b4c9d47ea8b24b2d About "FORE the Good of the Game” is a golf podcast featuring interviews with World Golf Hall of Fame members, winners of major championships and other people of influence in and around the game of golf. In the final installment of our three-part conversation with 1985 U.S. Women's Open champion Kathy Guadagnino (Baker), we explore life beyond the ropes as Kathy reflects on the transition from professional golf to a new season of purpose, faith, and service. With her signature warmth and humility, Kathy takes us on a journey through her years playing in Japan—including typhoon-tossed flights, memorable karaoke bus rides, and questionable culinary adventures with Laura Davies. She candidly shares the internal shift that came with motherhood, faith, and recognizing that golf was no longer her top priority. From her final years on tour to her unexpected calling as a coach and mentor, Kathy's story is one of rediscovering identity and purpose. A serendipitous moment after a painful golf injury even reshaped her swing—and her understanding of the game.We also celebrate Kathy's work beyond the course, including her and husband Joe's founding of Solid Rock Christian Church, her time at the helm of collegiate golf programs, and the spiritual calling that has always guided her journey. As always, we close with our signature three questions—offering Kathy a chance to reflect on what she would do differently, her one career mulligan, and how she hopes to be remembered. This heartfelt and inspiring conversation wraps up a truly special profile of one of golf's quiet champions. Kathy Guadagnino's story is a powerful reminder that life's richest victories often come after the final putt drops.Listen in as we celebrate a life well played—on and off the course.

Challengers (2024), directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O'Connor, is more than just a sports drama—it's a gripping story of love, ambition, and psychological warfare. Set in the intense world of professional tennis, the film explores a complex love triangle where passion and competition collide. In this breakdown, we analyze Challengers' bold storytelling, striking cinematography, and the way Guadagnino turns the court into a battlefield of emotions. If you love films that blend romance, rivalry, and raw intensity, this deep dive is for you.
Kelsi and Trey react to the Golden Globes awards show, the speeches, the production, and how outside of a few authetnic speeches (Demi Moore, Sebastian Stan, etc.) it really felt like more of a fun-awkward celebrity hangout. Then we discuss Luca Guadagnino's newest feature 'Queer' starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey (which may be Trey's favorite movie of the year). And, of course, today is a Patreon deep dive, so we'll be talking a lot about Guadagnino's and Timothée Chalamet's career with a light ranking conversation! Big Episode!
***Join the Seventh Row newsletter to stay updated and find out about more great under-the-radar character dramas: http://email.seventh-row.com ------- 2024 has been a landmark year for Luca Guadagnino, with the release of his tennis drama Challengers and his adaptation of William S. Burroughs' Queer. As these films garner attention, Alex Heeney takes this opportunity to revisit Guadagnino's 2017 masterpiece Call Me by Your Name, a film she deems his best work to date. In this episode, Alex explores connections between Call Me by Your Name and Guadagnino's latest films, noting how the opening credits of Queer serve as a direct homage to those of Call Me by Your Name. She delves into why she loves Call Me by Your Name, from how it works as a 'romance of stuff,' its attention to tactile details, its flirtatious editing style, and its ability to evoke a world beyond the frame. Justin Kuritzkes is the very talented writer behind Challengers, the Luca Guadagnino love triangle topping all sorts of end-of-year lists right now. The film is a tennis drama that declared game-set-and-match with critics and audiences alike on release in April, becoming a pop culture sensation in ways usually reserved for franchise films. Steeped in the messy wants and desires of three complicated characters, it's the sort of film that doesn't often dominate discourse. But that didn't stop Challengers becoming a phenomenon whose influence altered fashion, music, memes and more in 2024.Which for most writers would be enough achievement for one year thank you very much. But Justin's 2024 didn't end there. Queer – also directed by Guadagnino – is a William Burroughs adaptation that hit cinemas this month. The film stars Daniel Craig as William Lee – an American expatriate living in 1950s Mexico City who becomes obsessed with a younger man and goes on a quest into the jungle in search of unlocking drug-induced telepathic communication. Both films bear the hallmarks of a storyteller insistent upon bringing deeply nuanced explorations of flawed people searching for connection into multiplexes. In the double-bill episode you're about to hear, breaking down in spoiler-filled detail both acclaimed films, we discuss the overlaps between Challengers' carnal chaos and Charli XCX's Brat Summer, and what both say about this moment in the culture. We get into the tragic real-life death of Burroughs' partner, killed by the famed author in an supposed accidental shooting, that lends uncomfortable context to the story of Queer (and that Justin threaded into the movie). And you'll also hear his thoughts on whether both of these films could be a bellwether moment for movies. In a year that saw franchise after franchise struggle for critical applause and box office might, does the success of a movie like Challengers suggest that an appetite might be growing again for original stories? Now there's an exciting thought to carry into 2025.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. Anne and Ryan discuss Luca Guadagnino's new drama QUEER starring Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, Jason Schwartzman, and Lesley Manville. Based on the William S. Burroughs novella of the same name, QUEER follows an American writer living in 1950s Mexico City, pursuing a romance with a recently discharged Navy man. As the pair travel to South America in search of a mysterious drug, the story takes on a dreamlike aura in its depiction of longing and wanderlust. Join us for this discussion of Guadagnino's directorial follow-up to this year's Challengers, as well as diversions into James Bond, AMC theaters, Melancholia, the Babygirl trailer, Black Narcissus, Derek Jeter's gift baskets, Under the Volcano, The Agency and much, much more! QUEER is currently in theaters.

The film received polarizing reviews after its world premiere at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival. However, it has long lingered with all of us since our first viewings, compelling some of us to rewatch it. What did we think of its themes, the cinematography, Daniel Craig's performance, the score, and Guadagnino's direction? Tune in as we discuss these topics, its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on...
Screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes has written two of the year's hottest tickets, "Challengers" and "Queer," both directed by Luca Guadagnino. They are his first-ever feature films. He joins us to discuss both of the movies, working with Guadagnino, and more.
Spooky Month continues as the boys enroll at the Helena Markos Dance Academy with their friend Jasmine to watch Luca Guadagnino's audacious Suspiria remake (but don't call it a remake). They discuss the extremely polarizing reception to this film upon release and how it's currently viewed within Guadagnino's filmography before watching it (all for the first time) and deciding for themselves how much of it works.
Join us as we reenter the lush and sensual world of Luca Guadagnino and discover “il costo dell'ecstasy” in his 2009 film I Am Love. Wilson savours the intentional mistakes in technique that feel like a part of the world of the film. On today's NYFF62 podcast, we welcome director Luca Guadagnino, screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes, costume designer Jonathan Anderson, and cast members Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey to discuss Queer, the Spotlight Gala of the 62nd New York Film Festival, with NYFF Artistic Director Dennis Lim. Written in the early 1950s yet not published until 1985, William S. Burroughs's Queer has come to be considered a canonical work in the career of the Beat Generation author and a cornerstone of transgressive gay literature. In his wildly ambitious adaptation, Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name, NYFF55) expertly evokes the book's post–World War II time period and cinematically translates Burroughs's iconoclasm with panache. In a transformative role, Daniel Craig immerses himself into Burroughs's alter ego William Lee, a habitual heroin user luxuriating in freedom and desiccation among a disconnected group of gay American expatriates in Mexico City in the late 1940s. When enigmatic, preppy ex-military kid Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey) catches Lee's eye, he swoons into a headlong love affair, commencing an odyssey that will take them all the way to the Ecuadorian jungle in pursuit of the ultimate high. Buoyed by go-for-broke performances from Craig and Starkey, and rollicking, unexpected supporting turns from Lesley Manville and Jason Schwartzman, Queer is a dazzling showcase for many in Guadagnino's stable of collaborators, including Challengers screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes, cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom, and music composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. It's a film that finds Guadagnino in his most formidable, gutsiest mode yet, a universal love story featuring expressionistic flights of fancy, gratifying moments of psychedelic surrealism, and surprising tenderness. Tickets to the New York Film Festival are moving fast! Get up-to-date information on all available tickets on a daily basis by visiting filmlinc.org/tix. Queer opens in theaters on November 27, courtesy of A24.

The film adapts the Williams S. Burroughs novel of the same name. Daniel Craig stars as William Lee, Burroughs' alter-ego, a lonely man in post-war Mexico City, desperately chasing after younger men. When he meets Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey), he's instantly smitten, but Allerton plays hot and cold with him. After a tentative on-again-off-again courtship, Lee persuades Allerton to go to South America with him in search of hallucinogenic drugs that will help with telepathy. In Queer, Guadagnino has reteamed with several Challengers collaborators: screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes, costume designer Jonathan Anderson, cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom, and editor Marco Costa. This week, to celebrate the release of Luca Guadagnino's Challengers, Paul and Amy break down the 2018 film, Call Me By Your Name, starring Timothée Chalamet (sorry, no Zendaya in this one). The two talk about the beauty of the film's title, Guadagnino's obsessive messiness, and the delicate CGI'ing of a certain actor's nether region. Plus, this movie has us all nostalgic over our first loves and our first heartbreaks. Next week, Paul and Amy take a look at the 1991 film, Point Break, in honor of The Fall Guy release. Kelsi and Trey explore the convincing cinematic power of Luca Guadagnino's Challengers. We also question the narrative's internal logic with its character studies led by dynamic performances from Zendaya, Mike Faist, and (especially) Josh O'Connor. Then we discuss what makes Guadagnino's films so compelling, from the bizarre technical motifs, the psychosexual tensions, the backdrop of historical significance, to the underdog qualities of his flawed characters. Most of his successful films blend cinematic thrills with alluring stories, and while Challengers is certainly thrilling (even hilarious in moments), we attempt to identify the unevenness of the film's narrative that held us back from loving the movie.
