Abstract: Many Latter-day Saint scholars recognize that an excellent candidate for Nephi's Bountiful is found at the inlet Khor Kharfot in southern Oman at the end of the lengthy Wadi Sayq. This week we check in with independent Curators International through Scott Vincent Campbell and Becky Nahom, and they break down the exciting curatorial connection event hosted through EXPO Chicago for the last five nine years. The conversation touches on the value of curators having an informal, yet art infused context in which to connect. All participants fail to recognize that the proper noun for a group of curators is a “hubris.” As in, “a hubris of curators approached the young artist.” This chat is a followed by LA based but Chicago drenched brilliant image maker John Knuth and we get down, full on EXPO style but with flies, as we tailgate our own booth and try to change the world one T-shirt at a time. US officials: COVID, bomb cyclone won’t slow Santa’s travels

The U.S. military agency known for tracking Santa Claus as he delivers presents on Christmas Eve doesn't expect COVID-19 or the “bomb cyclone” hitting North America to affect Saint Nick's global travels. NORAD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, is responsible for monitoring and defending the skies above North America. But the Colorado Springs, Colorado-based agency also runs the NORAD Tracks Santa service, which allows people to follow his Christmas journey through its noradsanta.org website, social media channels and mobile app. The agency planned to have about 1,500 volunteers working on Christmas Eve to field phone calls from children who want to know Santa's location and delivery schedule. Lt. General David Nahom, a NORAD official based in Anchorage, Alaska, said the pandemic has not affected Santa's busy delivery schedule. The freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall that's disrupting holiday travel in the U.S. shouldn't be a problem for a man who lives at the North Pole, Nahom said. “I think Santa will be right at home with the Arctic weather that's hitting into the lower 48,” Nahom said. NORAD's holiday tradition began in 1955 after a kid mistakenly called a Colorado military command asking to speak to Santa. More calls came in so the commander on duty assigned an officer to answer the Santa calls, and the tradition took hold. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Ishmael died in the Book of Mormon and was buried in Arabia in a place named Nahom. Remarkably, archaeologists have discovered a funerary stela in the region of ancient NHM (Book of Mormon Nahom) with the name Ishmael inscribed on it.  The limestone stela has the name of Ishmael, dates to the correct time period and comes from the region of NHM.  The archaeological place of Nahom has well over 10 artifacts which confirm the name including several dating to Book of Mormon times. Has archaeology provided concrete evidence for Ishmael in the Book of Mormon?Book of Mormon Central researcher, Neal Rappleye, found the ancient inscription in part of a collection of over 400 stela.  He joins the podcast to discuss the incredible archaeological evidence in support of the Book of Mormon as a true history. Can we say for sure this is Ishmael from the Book of Mormon?  Listen to the podcast to find out. Here is Neal's article on the funerary stela and its inscription: https://bit.ly/3bS3JeiHere is a link to his blog post from Book of Mormon Central about making the incredible find: https://bit.ly/3kfqxcEQuoting from Neal's abstract from his article published in the Interpreter Foundation: "...scholars generally agree that “the place called… Nahom,” where Ishmael was buried (1 Nephi 16:34) is identified as the Nihm tribal region in Yemen...a funerary stela with the...south Arabian equivalent of Ishmael — was found near the Nihm region and dated to ca. 6th century bc. Although it cannot be determined with certainty that this is the Ishmael from the Book of Mormon...such is a possibility worth considering."Finding any name in history is astounding. Finding a name in the right location and time period from a traveler to that region with a name not from the region is an archaeological bullseye worth discussing in any conversation regarding the Book of Mormon and its history.Support the show (http://www.BookofMormonHistory.com)

In our next episode, we'll continue along the Frankincense Trail and get to the Land Bountiful.  George Potter has some interesting insights into why Laman and Lemuel might have rebelled, and we will discuss Nephi's broken bow.  George has some interesting insights. https://youtu.be/wlfEzPin3s0 George:  There is a guy named Nigel Groom who is the expert on the Frankincense Trail.  He is a British scholar.  He has written two books on the Frankincense Trail.[1]  He has also written a book called A Dictionary of Arabic Topography and Place Names.[2]  This is the only dictionary that exists like this.  You can go right there to mujahareen and see it translates to the “most fertile pieces.”  It's his own writing:  “most fertile parts.”  Pieces and parts are synonyms.  Again, a Book of Mormon place name, right along the Frankincense Trail.  There are villages that were through the most fertile part of the trail.  So Nephi describes they went through the most fertile parts, then they went through the more fertile parts.  Finally they travelled, he said for a space of many days, and then they had to stop and look for food.  In other words, it ain't fertile at all.  They had to go hunting in the mountains. GT:  This is where Nephi broke his bow, right? George:  It's where Nephi broke his bow.  It just so happens that the area there where bow-wood grows in Arabia is a very small area, about 150 miles long.  Atum is the name of the wood, and again it would have been right along the trail where Nephi would have been.  So, we document all of this in our films and our books.[3]  This is amazing, and it's up in the mountains.  Up in the mountains is where all of the game is.  They are not down in the desert, they are up in the mountains.  So Nephi would have made his bow out of atum would, which is a type of olive.  He would have then gone up to the mountains to get his game.  So, it is all in context. From there they travel and they get to a very desperate part of the trail.  This is where there is open rebellion.  Laman and Lemuel are contemplating killing Nephi and Lehi.  They want to go back. Ishmael dies.  They call the place Nahom. We'll also talk about the Land Bountiful, a land flowing with honey.  Why is that significant? Check out our conversation!  Don't forget to check out our previous discussion about the Frankincense trail! Fruit and honey were welcome sights after going through a desert wilderness   [1] Nigel Groom has written Frankincense and Myrrh: A Study of the Arabian Incense Trade, see https://amzn.to/2HLl9tt, and Sheba Revealed: A Posting to Bayhan in the Yemen, see https://amzn.to/2EYhLs6 . It's so discouraging! You're preaching the gospel of education, enlightenment, self-improvement, promoting humanities' greatest ideas...but then you notice that many kids are staring intently down at their laps. Unfortunately, you know why. They need to put that sweet pair of shoes on their Amazon Wishlist before you notice them obsessing over their screens and redirect them.As a contemporary instructor, I've felt this profound burn. I'll bet you have too. Some teachers are totally hard-nosed. They don't give the kids an inch on phone use during instruction. If that's you...RESPECT! However I, like I suspect many teachers, am not so stern when it comes to students and their phones. Plus, kids are darned adept at subtle screen time. And let's not forget, students can use their devices in class in the pursuit of knowledge. While I'm uncomfortable with prohibition, I'd certainly love to see kids to stare at their phones less during strategic moments of instruction. In this episode, I promote enlightenment over prohibition. I do this with the InTheMoment App.
