This hope empowers us to face challenges head-on, just like our favorite heroes do.Prayer:Jesus, thank You for being our living hope. Empower us to live boldly for You. Today's episode is the first of a three-part series on Radical Discipleship, in which Stasi shares practices of grace that root us in the love of God. In Part One, Stasi invites us to align with God through prayer and marinating our hearts in the Scriptures. She explores Wild at Heart's Daily Prayer as an example of a guided prayer to start each day. Aligning with God through prayer is both a sacred privilege and a necessary honor. The beauty of it lies in the fact that it's a two-way conversation—God deeply desires to hear from us, and He also longs for us to hear from Him. As we quiet ourselves in His presence, we are able to receive more of Him and take hold of everything He has accomplished for us. Friends, these daily practices aren't about obligation; they're about rooting ourselves deeply in the Truth so that we are able to follow hard, stand strong, and partner with Him in bringing His Kingdom.…..SHOW NOTES:…..VERSES: Proverbs 3:5 (NLT) — Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.Psalm 91 — In its entiretyPsalm 23:1 (NLT) — The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.James 1:5 (NIV) —  If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV) — No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. 274 How to Witness God's Faithfulness in Suffering: From Trauma to Triumph

Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast

Episode Summary:  In this week's episode, I speak with Gina Kelly who was a sixth grader when she was hit by a truck which caused significant physical and emotional injury and wounds. She shares what she endured, as well as how she has seen God use that for good, and how she has witnessed God's faithfulness to her through it all.   Quotables from the episode: There was definitely a defining moment in my life, which happened a little over 45 years ago. When I was a 6th grade crossing guard and was crossing the street to get to my post, I was hit by a truck. I flew 100-125 feet in the air and landed in a snowbank. I suffered the most pain in my life from that event: the physical pain, the trauma, the suffering. I had a skull fracture on the right side of my head, which left me deaf in one ear, complete facial paralysis on the right, I had six broken ribs on the right and my right lung collapsed. Physically, my body went through a lot from that. That event caused emotional wounds too. I was just entering middle school when I had to wear an eye patch over my eye, my smile was very asymmetrical, so I experienced a lot of insecurities with my physical body and with the emotional wounds that went along with the physical wounds from my accident. One of the ways that God used the wounds you experienced for someone else's good was when I was in a car accident and suffered physical injuries and you reached out to me to comfort me in my healing process. That is directly related to the scripture that says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” Before the accident, I was pretty reserved and shy. After the accident, I remember two prominent feelings. One was feeling like I was in a fishbowl because I went back to school and everyone was curious about the girl who almost died so all of a sudden, as someone who preferred to shrink back to the edges of society was thrust into the forefront because everyone wanted to know what happened and that made me uncomfortable. I did experience some cruelness. About two weeks after I returned to school, I participated in the spelling bee. In the very front row were two boys from a different elementary school and every time I went up front, they made faces at me and pointed at me, and I was nervous anyway trying to remember how to spell the words and I remember crying with my parents after we left. I experienced the shame of not wanting people to see my deformity. I was blessed to have one youth leader who sat with me in my pain, listened to me, spoke truth into me and little by little I no longer covered up my asymmetrical smile. Something good came out of it in that they did not put another sixth grader in that role but had an adult as a crossing guard going forward. It's been 45 years since my accident and just over the past couple of months God has been revealing to me some lies I have held onto since childhood. I was recently at a youth conference and one of the speakers felt the call to pray for someone who was deaf specifically in their right ear. I realized that since my accident no one had ever prayed for me and for what I had gone through. My whole life I've praised God for keeping me alive but there was something about going back and specifically praying over that area. When the leader prayed over me, he happened to touch my scar that I hadn't revealed to him, and God revealed to me that I was still seeing myself as broken, which was a lie and God showed me I am not broken. Also, because I couldn't hear physically in that ear, I had believed I couldn't hear God speak very well either. There was that spiritual wound. I had always previously sensed his presence on my left side, but recently, during my quiet time when I was journaling, I sensed God speaking to my heart that “I will always position myself so you can hear me.” Since that prayer for healing of my deafness, I have been able to sense him on my right side as well.  If God can raise dead bones to life, he can speak into a deaf ear and it can hear. As I look back over the course of my life, I can see several ways God redeemed those wounds. It led me into my current profession as a pediatric physical therapist. I worked as a missionary in a clinic with children with special needs and I used my hands to show them God's love. One particular incident occurred when I was on the mission field when I was working with a woman who had been in an accident and her husband asked me, “What's wrong with your face?” In that moment, God showed me that this was my opportunity so I told them about my accident and about how even in the hospital I sensed God's presence, and I knew I would be okay. When I told them about Jesus, the wife said, “I want to know Jesus!” So, I was able to share and to pray with them, and tell them that Jesus loves them and that he died on the cross for them, that he rose again and that he wants to have a relationship with them. I was able to share the gospel in the jungles of Peru. If I'd had that perfect smile, that I had prayed for all those teenage years, I don't know that he would have asked me about my faith. There was another young girl who was bitten by a snake and lost part of her leg and was really struggling with how she looked. I was able to show her my scar, and my crooked smile, and having only one eyebrow that can raise, and help her to see that it's okay for her to be different. God has shown me that my scars can be stones of remembrance. They can be something that when people ask me about them, I can either see that as a nuisance, or I can see that as an opportunity to explain the goodness of God. In the hands of a redemptive God, what we view as broken, he views as beautiful. Our scars are really the tapestry on which we can see God's healing hand. Sometimes we don't receive the healing that we most want, but God is working on the area of healing that he knows is most important for us now. While we might long for physical healing, and to be restored to our pre-injury state, God is busy healing us emotionally or relationally or spiritually in our walk with him. While we still desire that physical healing, I'm grateful for the healing he has brought. Scripture tells us that if we are Christ followers, we are going to experience pain and brokenness. The question is, what are we going to do with it? One of the things that God keeps showing me is that he continues to want to bring healing. When you see God's faithfulness in one situation, and then you go through another rocky time, you can rest in knowing God has been faithful and will be faithful. I understand my accident differently, from my parents' perspective now that I am a parent. As a child, I saw what God did for me, but I also saw my parents walk with faith. As great as a parent's love for their child, God's love for them is greater. God is faithful and will care for those you love, including your children. Looking back, would I choose to be hit by a truck again? Not for what I went through physically, but if that is the only way I can know my God will be faithful, hold me and love me in the greatest pain I've ever experienced, in the greatest brokenness I've ever experienced, if that will give me a faith that is unshakeable, then I would go through it again because in many ways, I am who I am today because of my wounds that are now sacred scars.    Scripture References: 2 Corinthians 1:4 NIV “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”   Recommended Resources:  Sacred Scars: Resting in God's Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted by Dr. Michelle Bengtson  The Hem of His Garment: Reaching Out to God When Pain Overwhelms by Dr. Michelle Bengtson YouVersion 5-Day Devotional Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms   Today is Going to be a Good Day: 90 Promises to Start Your Day Off Right by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the AWSA 2023 Inspirational Gift Book of the Year Award, the Christian Literary Awards Reader's Choice Award in four categories, and the Christian Literary Awards Henri Award for Devotionals YouVersion 7-Day Devotional, Today is Going to be a Good Day YouVersion 7-Day Devotional, Today is Going to be Another Good Day Breaking Anxiety's Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises by Dr. Michelle Bengtson Breaking Anxiety's Grip Free Study Guide Free 7-Day YouVersion Bible Reading Plan for Breaking Anxiety's Grip Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctor's Personal Journey Through Depression by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader's Choice Award Hope Prevails Bible Study by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader's Choice Award Trusting God Through Cancer 1 Trusting God Through Cancer 2 Revive & Thrive Women's Conference Subdue Stress and Anxiety: Fifteen Experts Offer Comprehensive Tools in Ten Minutes a Day. The Holy Spirit #3 - By Pastor George Lehman Destitute of the fire of the Holy Spirit of God – nothing else counts. Possessing the fire of the Holy Spirit, nothing else matters. Trying to do the Lord's work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work, but when you are filled with the Holy Spirit then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.   -Corrie Ten Boom This is a clear sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit in a person's life. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (Amp) – And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane* things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah). *profane = worldly, things that disrespect God The human personality:  Spirit, Soul, and Body. I'm sure we would all agree that spirit, soul, and body make up the complete human personality. Genesis 1:26 (Amp) – God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth. Notice:  In IMAGE and after LIKENESS. Image refers to outward appearance thus something in man's outward appearance mirrors the outward appearance of God. After Likeness refers to the internal structure of the Godhead -   Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Man's spirit, soul and body correspond to the three components of the Trinity. The internal structure of the human personality is traceable to God's creation of man. The human spirit proceeds from God's breath. Genesis 2:7 (Amp) – Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being. Hebrew & Greek word for Spirit & breath are the same. The body was clay infused with divine life to become Adam. Fully Spirit, Soul and Body The soul is perhaps the most difficult component to understand. The part in us that determines… “I will” or “I won't” The soul comprises of Will, Emotions and Intellect and produces 3 corresponding types “I want”  “I feel”  “I think”   These statements rule the life of the natural, sinful man.  It's all about Me, Myself and I. Surrendering to these demands of the soul instead of being guided by God's Spirit – you separate yourself from God. Sin brings death to Adam – not physical but spiritual death. When we repent, God forgives our sins and renews our spirits. The Spirit takes up residence in us! Ephesians 2:1-3 (Amp) – And you [He made alive], when you were dead (slain) by [your] trespasses and sins in which at one time you walked [habitually]. You were following the course and fashion of this world [were under the sway of the tendency of this present age], following the prince of the power of the air. [You were obedient to and under the control of] the [demon] spirit that still constantly works in the sons of disobedience [the careless, the rebellious, and the unbelieving, who go against the purposes of God].  Among these we as well as you once lived and conducted ourselves in the passions of our flesh [our behavior governed by our corrupt and sensual nature], obeying the impulses of the flesh and the thoughts of the mind [our cravings dictated by our senses and our dark imaginings]. We were then by nature children of [God's] wrath and heirs of [His] indignation, like the rest of mankind. From rebellion to salvation Ephesians 2:4-6 (Amp) – But God—so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us,  Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation).  And He raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together [giving us joint seating with Him] in the heavenly sphere [by virtue of our being] in Christ Jesus (the Messiah, the Anointed One). Salvation won't preserve our physical bodies – but it does make them temples for the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 4:16(NIV) – Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. How we treat our bodies then, is very important, it has an important function. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (Amp) – Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body. When we receive salvation, our spirits are made alive, our souls are reconciled to God and our bodies are made temples for the Holy Spirit. Functions of Spirit, Soul and Body. Spirit: Our spirit is capable of communicating directly with God and worshipping Him, as confirmed in… 1 Corinthians 6:17 (Amp) – But the person who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him. 2 Timothy 1:7(NKJV) - For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.  Neither soul nor body can unite with God.  The spirit alone is capable of uniting with God. John 4:23-24 (Amp) – A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshipers.  God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality). Soul: The soul's function is to make decisions and, regeneration[vernuwing] enables the soul to make right decisions. Psalm 103:1 (NIV) – Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. David's spirit is telling his soul what to do. His spirit senses the need to ‘bless the Lord' but it requires activation by his soul to execute this need. Eg. Like a gear lever on a car.  Turn the key, start the engine, but to make it move you must shift it into drive. It's often difficult to distinguish soul from spirit. The ONLY effective and sharp tool is - THE WORD. Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) – For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. The difference between mature and immature Christians… Hebrews 5:11-14 (Msg) –  I have a lot more to say about this, but it is hard to get it across to you since you've picked up this bad habit of not listening. By this time you ought to be teachers yourselves, yet here I find you need someone to sit down with you and go over the basics on God again, starting from square one-—baby's milk, when you should have been on solid food long ago! Milk is for beginners, inexperienced in God's ways; solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in telling right from wrong.   Body There's a marked difference between “Spiritual” and “Soulish” in relation to the body as described in the New Testament. Paul says… 1 Corinthians 15:44-50a (NIV) –  44It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.  If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.  45So, it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.  46The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.   47The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven.  48As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.  49And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man.  50I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, What does it mean to be an “earthly soulish man”? From a Christian's standpoint, earthly individuals focus on our earthly life and nothing more, nothing beyond. Soulish people are egocentric, concerned exclusively with themselves; it's about my comforts, my likes my dislikes, my feelings my convenience.  “I do it my way.” It's about what God can do for me and not what I can do for God. 1 Corinthians 2:14-15 (NIV) –  The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, Spirit-filled believers produce fruit. Luke 3:8a (Amp) – Bear fruits that are deserving and consistent with [your] repentance [that is, conduct worthy of a heart changed, a heart abhorring sin]. They ask, “How can I glorify God?  How can I best serve God?”  Pleasing God is their 1st priority.  They have a confidence and a boldness that they are children of God. Romans 8:14-16 (Amp) – For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.  For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father!  The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring us] that we are children of God. We can have absolute assurance in this scripture. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (NIV) – May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. Being ready when Jesus comes in Spirit Soul and Body one day is not optional *****

The bible says that the Lord fights our battles, and that the victory belongs to him. There is an unseen battle that is still taking place. The outcome is set, Jesus is the one who wins - will you be on the winning side? There is so much we don't understand about the spiritual realm. Once we understand where the battle is, and where to join the victorious one - then we too will be victorious. Welcome back to Redemption Church in Plano Tx. My name is Chris Fluitt and I love God's Word and am excited to share it with you. Greetings to everyone with us in-person and everyone joining us online. Blessings in the name of Jesus to you all. Unseen Battle We are the 3rd week of our series Unseen Battle. In week 1 we told you to identify the battle. Ephesians 6:12(NIV)For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. We have a struggle, but our struggle is not against flesh & blood… We are not at war against people but spiritual forces. We are in a spiritual war. Spiritual Warfare - A conflict in the unseen angelic realm that is affecting the physical, visible realm. In week 2 we talked about some of your spiritual weapons.  Spiritual enemies require spiritual weapons. The armor of God, the blood of Jesus, and prayer & fasting are some of our weapons to use in this struggle. We also talked about the purpose of prayer and what it really means when prayers are not answered like we wanted. Today in week 3, I want to talk to you about the location of the battle. Location of the battle The location of the battle is a major tactical advantage in war. There are some terrains that favor foot soldiers and not tanks. There are some positions that will provide cover from the eyes of snipers and their bullets. The location of higher ground is an advantage every soldier tries to take. On a light note… It is as Obi Wan Kenobi said – It's over Anakin. I have the high ground. Where is the location of this spiritual battle? Location of the battle Is the location of the battle at the church building? Is it in the church sanctuary?  Is it on the platform or perhaps the altar? Some religions suggest a pilgrimage be made to a holy land… is that the location of the battle? Our battle is not with humans. Our struggle is with invisible, spiritual, enemies… so where is the location of this battle? We have read the answer to this question, already. Ephesians 6:12(NIV)For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. See any locations? “Against the powers of this dark world…” so we fight here on Earth? The Greek word for world is “aiōn” and it does not mean Earth, but instead means age or period of time. It is where we get the English word “eon.” This is not a location, but keep reading… “…and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”Heavenly Realms The enemy is in heavenly realms… That might be a surprise to us, because it sure seems like the enemy is on earth. Some of you could swear that the enemy is in your office at work, or your 5th period classroom at school, or even closer in your family, marriage, or your mind… “For our struggle is… against the spiritual forces of evil IN THE HEAVENLY REALMS. Your Bible actually speaks of 3 heavens – the sky, outer space, God's throne room. I want us to think about God's throne room. I want you to think about the highest heaven. I want you to consider that this is where the real battle takes place. Is your attention on earth or in heavenly realms?Paul's letter to the Ephesians constantly brings our attention back to the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:3(NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Chris...

“One of life’s greatest blessings is to have a godly mother.  And thus, one of the greatest gifts you can give your children is being a godly mother.”  How do we do this?   On today’s episode Stacy speaks with Jessie Seneca, author, speaker, and founder of More of Him Ministries.  You won’t want to miss a moment as Jessie freely and graciously shares godly wisdom she has gleaned in raising her children.  About our Guest: Jessie Seneca is the founder of More of Him Ministries and the iMOM at home conference. Jessie lives in Bethlehem, PA with her husband, John of 35 years. They have two daughters, Lauren and Sarah and two wonderful son-in-laws. And now add on two grandsons, Luke and Connor (life is full!). Her message inspires women to move into a whole-hearted lifestyle, one devoted fully to God. Jessie’s passion and wisdom is to use the gifts God has given her to speak into the lives of her listeners and readers through her Bible studies and books. While writing her book, Raising Girls, Diaper to Diamond, she had one question at the forefront of her mind, “What do I wish I could tell the younger me?” She doesn’t claim to have all the answers and like most of us, has made mistakes along the way, but her continued desire has been to develop girls into responsible young adults while nurturing a deep friendship with her own daughters. Most days you can find Jessie walking her two golden-doodles, Bella and Murphy or playing with her grandsons.   Scripture:  Deuteronomy 6:5-7 (NIV) Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. Colossians 3:23 (NIV) Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.   Books: “Raising Girls: Diaper to Diamond” by Jessie Seneca “Friendship: Sisters for a Journey” by Jessie Seneca   Links: https://moreofhimministries.org https://moreofhimministries.org/imom-online/ https://momsinprayer.org/motherhood-matters-10-things-i-wish-i-knew/ https://momsinprayer.org/new-to-moms-in-prayer/   To give to the ministry of Moms in Prayer: Support Our Mission | Moms In Prayer International Moms in Prayer International- www.MomsInPrayer.org

Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast

Episode Summary: Today we’re talking about how to have hope when prayers go unanswered. Samantha Morgan returns to share more of her journey through infertility, an adoption that fell through, an international adoption, foster parenting, and a domestic adoption. Through the very real, hard circumstances, God taught her how to wait on Him as she was waiting for Him to answer her prayers. Quotables from the episode: I thought God was punishing me, but really, He was drawing me to Him, to learn how to trust Him more. God can handle our anger, our disappointment, our questions. He would rather we be honest and open with Him—He knows what we think anyway, but He wants us to share with Him. You don’t see purpose in the waiting period, until it’s over and you look back. It’s okay to not be in control. God wants to take that burden for you. Our faith doesn’t move or impress God—His plan for our lives is already in motion. Scripture References: Romans 8: 26-27 NIV “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” Hebrew 11:1 NIV “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for, and assurance about what we do not see.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” Hebrews 10:23 NIV “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” Romans 8:26-28 NIV “In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Recommended Resources: Miraculously My Own: One Woman’s Incredible Journey of Infertility, Faith, and Adoption by Samantha J. Episode Summary: In this episode, we talk about hope for healing after infertility and adoption. My guest, Samantha Morgan, is going to share her testimony after enduring infertility, an adoption that fell through, foster parenting, and the beautiful ways God used her disappointments for good, weaving a beautiful tapestry that she never could have imagined. Quotables from the episode: Adoption is rooted in pain from both sides. Giving my infertility to God allowed me to get out of His way so He could do what only He could do. Infertility brings with it all the emotions of grief. Infertility is not your fault, and it’s not a punishment for something you did or didn’t do. I had to ask myself, do I want to be pregnant, or do I really want to be a mom? Scripture References: Romans 8: 26-27 NIV “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. Psalm 91:1–16 NIV Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him, I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”Matthew 4:6 NIV “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. Sunday, May 24, 2020 Ryan Vinson, Lead Pastor If it had not been the Lord who was on our side—let Israel now say— if it had not been the Lord who was on our side when people rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us;then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; then over us would have gone the raging waters. Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.Psalm 124:1-8 (ESV) “Help” The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. Psalm 34:18 (NLT) “This is where the Christian message stands tall above any other teaching on pain and suffering and goes beyond any other answers to our problem. The intellectual answers are important. But intellect alone cannot help us navigate the minefield of pain and suffering. Other worldviews also offer intellectual answers. But Christianity alone offers a person.” – Ravi Zacharias  Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26 (NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)

HOPE A Joyful expectation in every season “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will live as one.” – John Lennon (The Beatles) The world is in a desperate need of Hope. Hope: A confident expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen for the good. Hebrews 6:19-20 (NIV) – 16We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20where our forerunner, Jesus has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek. There’s a familiar saying: “Where there is life there is Hope.”  (That is very true; however the opposite is also true) “Where there is Hope, there is life.” Hopelessness is one of the saddest conditions in human experience Uncounted millions in our world today are hopeless people. But thanks be to God we do not need to be hopeless! There is a hope which sets us free from the limitations and restrictions of this world – from: The petty concerns and worries Our own inadequacies, our inabilities, our weaknesses and frustrations Genuine hope as presented in scriptures gives you a complete new outlook on life. 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLT) – Three things will last forever-faith, hope and love-and the greatest of these is love.  Much of what we go through in our life comes and goes But the bible teaches us that these three things will remain: We have heard many sermons on Faith and Love but so much has been shared on Hope  The important point is, Hope is the reality that is necessary to maintain both Faith and Love Unless we have Hope our Faith will leak out and our Love will fail Hope is essential to living the fullness of the Christ life. What exactly did the “Fullness of the Christian life” look like in the early church? 1 Thessalonians 1:2-4 (NIV) – 2We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. 3We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 4For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you. What did Paul see in these Thessalonian Christians that confirmed they were chosen of God? He saw these three realities in their lives: Faith, Love and Hope a. Their work of faith b. Their labour of love c. Their endurance / steadfastness of hope Work – Is about a faith that works Labour – is the way the work of faith is done in love Hope – gives the strength to endure when faith is being tested. Hope makes us courageous Without hope which is connected to steadfastness, endurance, perseverance we will easily lose the benefits of faith and love How does Hope come? How may we have this kind of hope which is real and so necessary? The answer is that hope is a direct outcome of being born again by the Holy Spirit though faith in Jesus Christ. It’s not through just general faith in Jesus Christ, but rather a specific faith in His death, burial and resurrection. 1 Peter 1:3 (NIV) – Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Without the resurrection of Jesus life would be HOPELESS. 1 Peter 1:13 (Amp) – So prepare you minds for action, be completely sober [in spirit-steadfast, self-disciplined, spiritually and morally alert], fix your hope completely on the grace [of God] that is coming to you when Jesus Christ is revealed. Notice: The process of Salvation is not yet complete until Jesus is revealed. We must in the mean time fix our Hope completely on that future event. Hebrews 3:6 (Amp) – But Christ is faithful as a Son over His [Father’s] house. And we are His house if we hold fast our confidence and sense of triumph in our hope [in Christ]. We cannot give up Hoping! We must as Hebrews says: “Hold fast our confidence and sense of triumph in our hope until the end.”

Feeling the uncertainty of life right now? Feeling like the world is swirling in a storm around you? It's time to pray AND it's time to worship. Your worship is powerful. Here are some important verses I want to share with you.   Psalm 8:1 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens. 2From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praiseb on account of Your adversaries, to silence the enemy and avenger. 3When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place— 4what is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him?     Psalms 8: 2 New International Version Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. This verse is so good that I had to share a couple different translations with you. New Living Translation You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies and all who oppose you.   English Standard Version Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.     Psalm 9:1-2 BSB I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart; I will recount all Your wonders. 2I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High. 9The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. 10Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.     Psalm 28:6-9 NIV Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy. 7The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. 8The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. 9Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.

Bible readings: Ephesians 1:3-10 (NIV) Praise for Spiritual Blessings in Christ 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ. Matthew 4:12-22 (NIV) Jesus Begins to Preach 12 When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee. 13 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— 14 to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah: 15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,     the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,     Galilee of the Gentiles— 16 the people living in darkness     have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death     a light has dawned.” 17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Jesus Calls His First Disciples 18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him. 21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Christmas can be a time of lights, trees, parties, and decadent food, but it is definitely a season of grief and sadness. For some, it's the grief of a lost childhood; the holidays remind us of all the brokenness our young lives were immersed in. For many, Christmas is a strong reminder of the death of a spouse, parent, or child. Christmas was the last time my wife spoke with her mother. Throughout these first days, we've looked back at God's faithfulness in fulfilling every promise of hope He gave His children concerning Jesus. The first prophets boldly proclaimed God's coming amidst vast consumerism, greed, and a society that seemed “well off”. Then, in later years, prophets declared this hope amidst a broken society, exile, and confusion. As the people grieved the loss of everything, the prophets said things like, “Prepare the way of the Lord! The Lord will gather his people! The King will come and rule with justice and all will be made right.” The Psalmists also wrote in the same time, however, “The Lord watches over us!” Accompanying Hope Advent is a moment that pushes us into this odd kind of mourning—a mourning with hope. Grief or mourning described in the Scriptures challenges our notions of grief. It isn't a Hemingway-esq burying of all emotions and denial of pain. It isn't a journey to “getting over it” or moving on. On the other hand, it's not a constant groveling in that pain either. Often, we're prone to make our grief the central thing about ourselves and the central thing about God. We belittle people's attempts to speak words of life, encouragement, or truth. The Scriptures don't tell us how to grieve, but they tell us what we possess in our grief. The Bible tells us of the accompanying presence of hope. Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 (NLT): Dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. And then in 1 Peter 1:3-6 (NIV): Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. The incarnation of God in Jesus guarantees hope as a possession in every trial and at the foot of every grave of every fallen saint. The core of your mourning contains a lasting hope in Christ's arrival, His death, His resurrection, and His return. This hope doesn't expel weeping, often it welcomes it.   When you are informed, as Paul says, of the hope of Christ, or when you've received the inheritance of hope, as Peter describes, you see the world more clearly. You see the fractured marriages, you see the pain of loneliness, the injustice of poverty, the horror of war, and all of creation itself cracking under the weight of pressure of human sin. You see those things, knowing this is not how Jesus intended His world to be. You also see those things and know that, through the sacrifice of Christ's life and in the great wealth of His love, all of this will be made new. I invite you to spend time reflecting on this question: What hope does this Christ-Child Almighty God bring you? Where do you need that hope? How will you respond when it arrives in the ordinary and the humble? .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_15 .et_bloom_form_content button { background-color: #c75145 !important; } .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_15 .

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 1 John 3:1 NIV See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! Galatians 4:5 MSG Thus we have been set free to experience our rightful heritage. You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as his own children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives crying out, “Papa! Father!” Doesn't that privilege of intimate conversation with God make it plain that you are not a slave, but a child? And if you are a child, you're also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance. James 1:27 ESV Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. (1 Corinthians 2:3-5) (MSG) I was unsure of how to go about this, and felt totally inadequate—I was scared to death, if you want the truth of it—and so nothing I said could have impressed you or anyone else. But the Message came through anyway.   (1 Corinthians 2:3-5) (MSG) God's Spirit and God's power did it, which made it clear that your life of faith is a response to God's power, not to some fancy mental or emotional footwork by me or anyone else.   Today's Theme: We Will Not Forget   (Psalm 103:2) (NIV) Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.   (Psalm 103:3-5) (NIV) …who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.   (Romans 8:31) (MSG) So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn't hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn't gladly and freely do for us?   (2 Timothy 1:6) (NLT) This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.   (2 Timothy 1:6-7) (NKJV)  For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.   Extra Benefits:   1. Power (Colossians 1:11) (NLT) We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need.   2. Love (1 John 4:18) (NLT) Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. 3. Sound Mind (Psalm 139:17) (NLT) How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.  They cannot be outnumbered!
