Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “This is Serious." Key Verse: 2 Timothy 4.1-5 ESV: “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” 1 John 2.18-25 ESV: “Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also. Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that he made to us—eternal life.” Key Topics: Seriousness, Endurance, Holiness If you enjoyed the podcast, please subscribe and share it with your friends on social media. Are you looking to improve your Bible reading experience? In this video, Jesse Waggoner from Living The Word Today shares three practical tips to help you read the Bible better and grow in your relationship with God. Tips Covered: 1. Pray as You Read: Turn your Bible reading into a dialogue with God, expressing your thoughts, struggles, and questions through prayer. 2. Find the Quiet: Eliminate distractions, both external and internal, to truly focus on God's Word. 3. Ask Questions: Be intentional about processing and meditating on Scripture by asking the right questions. Key Verse: 1 Timothy 4:13 — “Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.”
Deuteronomy 8 is Moses' powerful reminder to the Israelites as they stand on the brink of entering the Promised Land. It is a chapter filled with lessons about remembrance, humility, and dependence on God. After forty years of wilderness wandering, Israel is about to transition from scarcity to abundance. But before they do, God calls them to reflect deeply on their journey — not to dwell in the hardship, but to understand its purpose. Moses emphasizes: Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years… (v.2). The wilderness was not a punishment alone, but a divine classroom, teaching dependence, refining character, and shaping a covenant people. ⸻ Breakdown of Themes 1. God's Purpose in the Wilderness (vv. 1–5) “Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart.” (v.2) God led His people deliberately through the wilderness to humble them, test them, and reveal their hearts. •The manna from heaven (v.3) showed that human beings do not live by bread alone but by every word from God. •Their clothes did not wear out, and their feet did not swell (v.4). God's provision was constant, even when invisible. This shows us today that wilderness seasons in our lives are not abandonment, but preparation. God is cultivating spiritual hunger for what truly sustains us: His Word and presence. Life Application: When life feels like a wilderness — dry, uncertain, or prolonged hardship — remember that God may be refining your heart. He uses wilderness seasons to remove self-reliance and build spiritual resilience. ⸻ 2. The Promise of Provision in the Land (vv. 6–10) “For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land…” (v.7) Moses describes the abundance awaiting them: water, wheat, barley, vines, fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil, honey, and a land where they will lack nothing. This paints a beautiful image of God's provision and generosity. But even here, Moses warns them: “When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.” (v.10) Gratitude must be intentional. Prosperity often tempts people to forget their dependence on God. Life Application: In seasons of blessing, do not forget to pause and give thanks. Comfort can dull spiritual sensitivity if we allow our hearts to drift from the Giver to the gifts. ⸻ 3. The Danger of Forgetfulness and Pride (vv. 11–20) This section forms the heart of Moses' warning: “Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God…” (v.11) Forgetfulness is not accidental — it comes when people stop nurturing their relationship with God. Moses anticipates the temptation: “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” (v.17) But he immediately counters: “But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” (v.18) The chapter closes with a sober warning: forgetting God leads to destruction, just as it did for other nations before them. Life Application: Pride often grows quietly in prosperity. We must remember that every ability, every resource, every open door comes from God's hand. Gratitude guards the heart against pride. ⸻ Reflection Deuteronomy 8 is not just history — it's a living word for us today. It teaches us: •To see trials as God's discipline for our good. •To recognize His hand in both scarcity and abundance. •To build a rhythm of remembrance and thanksgiving. •To guard against the subtle drift of pride and self-sufficiency. The wilderness seasons and the promised lands are both part of God's loving leadership. Key Verse for Reflection: “He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna… to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” (v.3) ⸻ Closing Encouragement Whether you are in a wilderness or a land flowing with provision, let Deuteronomy 8 anchor your heart. Remember the Lord. Depend on Him. And give thanks at every stage of the journey.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sendme-radio--732966/support.

Overcoming Fear, Doubt, and Adversity in Faith Life often presents us with mountains—challenges that seem impossible to climb. But through faith in Christ, we can overcome fear, doubt, and adversity, standing firm in the hope that God provides. In this powerful sermon, we explore four key mountains we must conquer:
Bible Reading: Matthew 10:29-31; 25:31-40The cold winter wind bit at Maryam's nose and ears as she and her mother were shopping downtown. "Can we stop at the pet store and get some birdseed?" asked Maryam. Mom agreed, and they headed for the store. As they passed an alley, they saw a man sleeping there, huddled against a wall. He was shivering in a shabby coat, his hands bare and his toes poking out from his shoes. Maryam grabbed her mother by the hand and quickly pulled her past the alley. "What's wrong?" asked Mom."That man made me nervous," said Maryam. "Why is he dressed like that? And why is he sleeping on the street on such a cold day?""He must be homeless," said Mom."We talked about homeless people at school," Maryam said as they went into the pet store. "But I didn't think there were any in small towns like ours."After buying a bag of birdseed, Maryam and her mother started back to the car. As they passed the alley, they saw that the man was gone. Mom looked sad. "I hope he's okay." When they got home, Maryam filled the family's backyard feeder with birdseed. Then she went inside and rubbed the cold from her tingling fingers. She joined her mother at the window, and they watched birds swoop down to the feeder. "I'm glad we can put out seeds for them," Maryam said. "It's so cold, and it's hard for them to find food. They might die without us." Maryam smiled as she watched the birds flutter around the feeder and peck at the seeds. "You know what? Some verses I read in my Bible this morning said God knows about every sparrow that falls. He cares about birds.""Yes," said Mom. "And He cares about people much more than birds. People are so valuable to Him that Jesus became one of us so we could be saved from sin and live with Him forever."Maryam stared out at the snowy backyard, thinking of the man they'd seen. "We found a way to help the birds through the cold winter. Maybe we could find a way to help homeless people too." "I'm sure we can," Mom said. "Let's come up with some ideas." –Daryl B. Knauer How About You?Do you know of someone who's in need? In today's Key Verse, Jesus tells Christians that doing something for someone in need is the same as doing it for Him. Think about what you could do. Perhaps you could donate food, money, or even your time to your church or another organization that helps people. Ask God to show you how you can share His love by helping those in need. Today's Key Verse:Truly I [Jesus] tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. (NIV) (Matthew 25:40)Today's Key Thought:Help those in need
Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “Revive My People." Key Verse: 2 Chronicles 7.1-4, 8-16 ESV: “As soon as Solomon finished his prayer, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord filled the Lord's house. When all the people of Israel saw the fire come down and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed down with their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, “For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.” Then the king and all the people offered sacrifice before the Lord. At that time Solomon held the feast for seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great assembly, from Lebo-hamath to the Brook of Egypt. And on the eighth day they held a solemn assembly, for they had kept the dedication of the altar seven days and the feast seven days. On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people away to their homes, joyful and glad of heart for the prosperity that the Lord had granted to David and to Solomon and to Israel his people. Thus Solomon finished the house of the Lord and the king's house. All that Solomon had planned to do in the house of the Lord and in his own house he successfully accomplished. Then the Lord appeared to Solomon in the night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice. When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time.” If you enjoyed the podcast, please subscribe and share it with your friends on social media. LIFE IS A RACE—ARE YOU RUNNING TO WIN?
Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “Bad Spirits." Key Verse: 1 John 4.1-6 ESV: “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” Sermon Topics: Spirits, Antichrist, Discernment Related Sermon: It's Spiritual If you enjoyed the podcast, please subscribe and share it with your friends on social media. Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “Run to Win." Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 9.24-27 ESV: “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.”“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “Holiness." Key Verse: 2 Kings 2.1-15 ESV: “Now when the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. And Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. And the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?” And he said, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.” Elijah said to him, “Elisha, please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to Jericho.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho. The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?” And he answered, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.” Then Elijah said to him, “Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on. Fifty men of the sons of the prophets also went and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. Then Elijah took his cloak and rolled it up and struck the water, and the water was parted to the one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground. When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.” And he said, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you, but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.” And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it and he cried, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” And he saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. And he took up the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” And when he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over. Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him opposite them, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.” Sermon Topics: Holiness, Anointing, Sacrifice If you enjoyed the podcast, please subscribe and share it with your friends on social media. Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “Power to Influence." Key Verse: 1 Samuel 18:1-9 ESV: “As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father's house. Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt. And David went out and was successful wherever Saul sent him, so that Saul set him over the men of war. And this was good in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul's servants. As they were coming home, when David returned from striking down the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with songs of joy, and with musical instruments. And the women sang to one another as they celebrated, “Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands.” And Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands, and what more can he have but the kingdom?” And Saul eyed David from that day on.” Ephesians 6:12 ESV: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Sermon Topics: Influence, Humility, Maturity If you enjoyed the podcast, please subscribe and share it with your friends on social media. Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “In Awe of God." Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 2.1-16 NLT: “When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn't use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God's secret plan. For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God. Yet when I am among mature believers, I do speak with words of wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that belongs to this world or to the rulers of this world, who are soon forgotten. No, the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God—his plan that was previously hidden, even though he made it for our ultimate glory before the world began. But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord. That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God's deep secrets. No one can know a person's thoughts except that person's own spirit, and no one can know God's thoughts except God's own Spirit. And we have received God's Spirit (not the world's spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit's words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren't spiritual can't receive these truths from God's Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can't understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For, “Who can know the Lord's thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.” Sermon Topics: Awe, Authenticity, Mindset If you enjoyed the podcast, please subscribe and share it with your friends on social media. Have you ever heard the statement that Jesus talked about money more than any other topic in the Bible? This is commonly stated, but is not exactly true. Jesus did talk about money a lot, but He usually was not really talking about money. He was usually using money as a topic to take a look at a deeper heart issue. We all know that money can have a way of dominating our life. The stress of not being able to pay bills, buy the things we want, afford a lifestyle that is comfortable, or the constant desire to buy something new. We live in a country with a debt crisis at the national level and on the personal level. So what does God say about money? Come join us this weekend as we study how our outlook on finances can have a major impact on our relationship with Christ. Key Verse - 2 Corinthians 8:9 (ESV) - For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “Alone." Key Verse: 1 Kings 19:3-4 NLT: “Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah, and he left his servant there. Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.”” 1 Kings 19:9-18 NLT: “There he came to a cave, where he spent the night. But the Lord said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” Elijah replied, “I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.” “Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He replied again, “I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.” Then the Lord told him, “Go back the same way you came, and travel to the wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive there, anoint Hazael to be king of Aram. Then anoint Jehu grandson of Nimshi to be king of Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from the town of Abel-meholah to replace you as my prophet. Anyone who escapes from Hazael will be killed by Jehu, and those who escape Jehu will be killed by Elisha! Yet I will preserve 7,000 others in Israel who have never bowed down to Baal or kissed him!”” Sermon Topics: Loneliness, Community, Support If you enjoyed the podcast, please subscribe and share it with your friends on social media. Bible Reading: Psalm 139:13-14; Jeremiah 1:5"Hey, watch it!" Kole poked his twin brother with the end of his broom. "You're stepping in my dirt pile!""Whoops," said Zeke. "Sorry." He took a few steps back and began sweeping the opposite side of the garage. "I can't believe I'm sweeping dust bunnies on a beautiful Saturday afternoon instead of playing baseball," he said with a groan."Yeah," said Kole, wiping sweat from his forehead. "And I'm missing Jackson's party." He sighed. "I hate being grounded.""Me too," said Zeke. "Switching places to take each other's tests was a dumb idea."As Kole wheeled the garbage can to the end of the driveway, Mrs. Dawson, the mom of one of the boys in Zeke's class, walked by. "Hi, Zeke!" she called out."Um, hi--I'm Kole, actually.""Oh, right--sorry!" said Mrs. Dawson. "Sometimes I forget Zeke has a twin."Kole sighed as he walked into the kitchen where Zeke and Mom were pouring lemonade. "What's the matter?" asked Mom. Kole shrugged. "Nothing. Someone outside just thought I was Zeke." "Hey, congratulations!" said Zeke, raising his glass of lemonade. "Ha ha," said Kole sarcastically. He looked at Mom. "It just gets irritating sometimes--people thinking I'm someone else."Mom nodded. "Yes, Dad and I knew that would happen to you boys. That's why we put you in different classes at school--so you could develop your own identities and friendships apart from each other." She took a sip of lemonade. "Of course, we never thought you'd switch places to get out of taking tests in classes you didn't like."The boys looked at the floor. "Yeah--sorry about that," said Zeke."Well," said Mom, "you didn't fool me. Your faces may look the same to everyone else, but I can see the subtle differences in your noses and chins and freckles. More than that, you have completely different personalities!" She smiled. "I see each of you for who you are. And you know what? God does too. He created you so you could know and reflect Jesus in your own special way. He made each of you unique, with your own interests and abilities.""Yeah," said Kole. "Like me being good at English and Zeke at math.""Exactly," said Mom. She ruffled Kole's hair. "But that doesn't mean you can have Zeke take your math tests." - Courtney LasaterHow About You?Did you know God made you just the way you are? You were created to be you and no one else! Join Micah Herbster for a 12 week study through the New Testament book of 1 John. John has four key reasons for writing his letter: to declare Christ (1 John 1:3), to warn against sin (1 John 2:1), the warn against false teachers (1 John 2:26), and to give assurance to the wandering christian (1 John 5:13). /// God is Light (Chapters 1:1-2:2) (Key Verse: 1 John 1:5) God is Love (Chapters 2:3-4:21) (Key Verse: 1 John 4:8) God is Life (Chapter 5) (Key Verse: 1 John 5:11-12) /// Reach out to Micah and the Walk Talks team by emailing mdherbster@southlandcamp.org!
Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “Full Transparency." Key Verse: 2 Kings 4:8-28 ESV “One day Elisha went on to Shunem, where a wealthy woman lived, who urged him to eat some food. So whenever he passed that way, he would turn in there to eat food. And she said to her husband, “Behold now, I know that this is a holy man of God who is continually passing our way. Let us make a small room on the roof with walls and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp, so that whenever he comes to us, he can go in there.” One day he came there, and he turned into the chamber and rested there. And he said to Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite.” When he had called her, she stood before him. And he said to him, “Say now to her, ‘See, you have taken all this trouble for us; what is to be done for you? Would you have a word spoken on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?'” She answered, “I dwell among my own people.” And he said, “What then is to be done for her?” Gehazi answered, “Well, she has no son, and her husband is old.” He said, “Call her.” And when he had called her, she stood in the doorway. And he said, “At this season, about this time next year, you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my Lord, O man of God; do not lie to your servant.” But the woman conceived, and she bore a son about that time the following spring, as Elisha had said to her. When the child had grown, he went out one day to his father among the reapers. And he said to his father, “Oh, my head, my head!” The father said to his servant, “Carry him to his mother.” And when he had lifted him and brought him to his mother, the child sat on her lap till noon, and then he died. And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God and shut the door behind him and went out. Then she called to her husband and said, “Send me one of the servants and one of the donkeys, that I may quickly go to the man of God and come back again.” And he said, “Why will you go to him today? It is neither new moon nor Sabbath.” She said, “All is well.” Then she saddled the donkey, and she said to her servant, “Urge the animal on; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you.” So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When the man of God saw her coming, he said to Gehazi his servant, “Look, there is the Shunammite. Run at once to meet her and say to her, ‘Is all well with you? Is all well with your husband? Is all well with the child?'” And she answered, “All is well.” And when she came to the mountain to the man of God, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came to push her away. But the man of God said, “Leave her alone, for she is in bitter distress, and the Lord has hidden it from me and has not told me.” Then she said, “Did I ask my Lord for a son? Did I not say, ‘Do not deceive me?'”” Sermon Topics: Motherhood, Strength, Faith Timestamps: 00:00 - Intro 00:30 - Welcome 03:35 - 2 Kings 4:8-28 07:10 - Full Transparency
As we wrap up our study in 1 Peter, we learn that Satan is cunning. We as believers are not called to be fearful of Satan, though. We are called, however, to be resistant to him and aware. Aware of his strategies. Aware of his hatred for us. And all the while also aware that we are not alone in the fight. We have a community of believers around the world that we experience a closeness through our similar new-nature. So let’s fight together. Let’s encourage one another. Let’s be victors over sin and Satan by the power of the Holy Spirit! Key Verse: 1 Peter 5:8 "Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." For Scripture, notes, upcoming events, & more: http://bible.com/events/49210947
Associate Pastor Brandon Solis brings this week's message, “Spiritual Lifeline." Key Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 NASB1995 “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.” Genesis 1:26–27 “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.' God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Romans 8:26–27 “In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” Psalms 27:8 “When You said, ‘Seek My face,' my heart said to You, ‘Your face, O Lord, I shall seek.'” 1 Samuel 1:6 “Her rival, however, would provoke her bitterly to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb.” Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” 1 Peter 3:7 “You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.” 1 Peter 3:12 “For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, And His ears attend to their prayer, But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” Sermon Topics: Prayer, Faith, Obedience
Have you ever been around sheep? What an interesting animal for God to use as a description of us! They are not the strongest, fastest, smartest… in fact they don’t really have much to offer at all! God doesn’t use this term to be as descriptive of us as it is used to be descriptive of Him. He is the Good Shepherd. We are His flock. He cares, guides, corrects, directs, provides, and protects us. How does He do those things today? Through “under-shepherds”. God works within the local church to raise up Elders who are called to shepherd the flock for Him. Being sheep themselves, this calling is massive and heavy. Join us this weekend to see more of what God’s word calls Elders to, and also the call of those who are not Elders as we are all HIS sheep! Key Verse: 1 Peter 5:6 - ”Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.“ For Scripture, notes, upcoming events, & more: http://bible.com/events/49210946
Bible Reading: 1 Peter 2:9-10Grace took her treasure box out from under the bed and opened it to look over the contents inside. She took a couple of items out and inspected them. A special note from Grandma. A ballet ticket stub. A birthstone ring. A picture book. She smiled as she returned them to her box. She often did this before going to bed. Seeing her treasures brought memories that gave her happy, warm feelings. One morning, Grace's little sister greeted her eagerly. "I had a dream last night," said Everly. "It was about a great big treasure box. It was way bigger than yours, and lots prettier too! It sparkled all over. And it was as tall as the sky!"Grace grinned at Everly. "What was in the box?""I don't know," said Everly. "I couldn't see inside it.""Well, who do you think would own such a big, fancy box?" Grace asked. "A king? Or the President?""I know who!" exclaimed Everly. "God could have a box like that."Grace grinned. "If God had a treasure box, what He would put in it? Rainbows, maybe? Or oceans? How about mountains? Or gold?" Everly nodded, but no answer seemed quite right to Grace."Let's think about it today," Mom suggested. "Let's see who can come up with an even better answer.""Okay," said Grace, but her day was busy, and she soon forgot all about it.When Grace got home from school, Everly was waiting for her. "I know what God would put in His treasure box!" she said, bouncing up and down. "I know the answer!""You do?" asked Grace. "How do you know? Mom told you, didn't she?" Grace turned to her mother. "What is it, Mom? Tell me too!"Mom smiled at her. "Go look up Deuteronomy 7:6," she said. "Maybe that will help you figure it out."When Grace looked up the verse in her Bible, she saw the answer to the question. People, she thought. God would put the people He saved in His treasure box. Grace smiled. She knew she was part of God's treasure.–Joy L. NewswangerHow About You?Are you part of God's treasure? Maybe you didn't know God has treasure, but He does! How was post-salvation living portrayed to you? Did you get the impression that everything was going to be comfortable and God was going to erase all your problems away once you got saved? Did you think that the ease of life would then make you happy? This self-serving view of salvation is not what Scripture speaks about. The reality is that we are actually blessed when we suffer FOR and WITH Christ. Hardships do not end when we place our faith in Jesus, but they are allowed into our lives order to refine us. Trials increase our trust in God and our hope of a perfect future in Heaven with Jesus. God’s Word tells us we can know that there is purpose and reward when we faithfully walk through the hard things of life by the power and example of Jesus. Key Verse: 1 Peter 4:19 Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good. Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “Giant Testimony." Key Verse: 1 Samuel 17:1-11 ESV “Now the Philistines gathered their armies for battle. And they were gathered at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim. And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered, and encamped in the Valley of Elah, and drew up in line of battle against the Philistines. And the Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side, with a valley between them. And there came out from the camp of the Philistines a champion named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze. And he had bronze armor on his legs, and a javelin of bronze slung between his shoulders. The shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. And his shield-bearer went before him. He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us.” And the Philistine said, “I defy the ranks of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together.” When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.” 1 Samuel 17:24-26 ESV “All the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were much afraid. And the men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel. And the king will enrich the man who kills him with great riches and will give him his daughter and make his father's house free in Israel.” And David said to the men who stood by him, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”” 1 Samuel 17:45-47 ESV “Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hand.”” Sermon Topics: Testimony, Chosen
Key Verse: 1 John 3:2 Dear friends, we are already God's children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.
In this message, Pastor Benjamin speaks for the first time on the problem of false teachers/prophets, but from a different perspective than you might have heard. The probing question that he seeks to answer is why the market for false teaching exists? What makes one susceptible to false teaching, and how can we deception-proof our lives? Key Verse: "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers." – 2 Timothy 4:3 (NKJV)
