On today's music show on arts24, Jennifer Ben Brahim is joined on set by Norwegian-American singer Okay Kaya and Syrian-British musician Ziyad Al-Samman. Okay Kaya is known for juxtaposing her sweet vocal melodies with her unfiltered take on the human experience. She's just dropped her fourth album called “Oh My God – That's So Me”, a reflection on social media and “meme culture”. The album also discusses isolation and storytelling. Okay Kaya is playing this week at Paris' Pitchfork music festival. Ziyad Al-Samman is on track to becoming everyone's favourite habibi music maker: His childhood in Jordan helped inform his musical style, which is also influenced by Prince and David Bowie. He's set to drop his debut EP “Pleasure Complex” and is performing next month at Trans Musicales festival in Rennes, France.

Chuck Da Fonk recently DJ'd at Detroit's Movement Festival and was praised by Francois K for spinning funk and disco at wildly different tempos, and also for playing the slower more syncopated funk. Highlights from that set are presented here including jams by Brainstorm, Detroit Emeralds, Dr. Perri Johnson, Shadow, and Mantra. Kaya Wilkins is a Norwegian-American Berlin-based musician, composer, and artist who records and performs as Okay Kaya. Okay Kaya has released numerous acclaimed albums including Both (2018), and most recently Watch This Liquid Pour Itself (2020) followed by her companion album Surviving Is the New Living (2020).John Wilson is an NYC-based documentarian who has been making low budget documentaries for over a decade. His films eventually caught the eye of Nathan Fielder, who ended up convincing HBO to give John his own TV show. How To with John Wilson is the result of this collaboration.

Mucho más expansiva, mucho más estruendosa y descarnada, pero igual de exquisita y arropadora. 45:16 ▶️ La película de estas semana es “Fragmentos de una mujer” dirigida por Kornél Mundruczó, con un apabullante comienzo con un plano secuencia de 23 minutos en los que vemos un parto. Así arranca el debut en inglés de la dupla húngara Kornél Mundruczó y la guionista Kata Wéber (White God, Jupiter’s Moon). Vanessa Kirby y Ellen Burstyn brillan en esta película en la que Martin Scorsese se ha involucrado como productor ejecutivo . Estas dos actuaciones huelen a nominación, Vanessa Kirby ya ganó la copa Volpi a la mejor interpretación femenina de la 77ª edición de la Mostra de Venecia.

This week on IN HER LENS, Adinah Dancyger talks about her journey as a filmmaker. Her short films Chopping Onions, Cheer Up Baby, and Moving have screened at various festivals including Sundance, Berlinale, NYFF, and Slamdance. Raised in New York City, and with a BA from Bard- Adinah has worked with brands like Zara, Gucci, Tory Burch, and companies like Nowness and Dazed. She has shot, directed, and edited music videos for artists like Okay Kaya and Aerial East. In this episode, Adinah and Nadine talk about visual storytelling and the development of her short films. In connection to her 2017 short Cheer Up Baby, they discuss channeling and confronting personal stories in a public form. Adinah talks about the joy of making music videos, creative collaborations, and setting boundaries with commercial work. Singer-songwriter/Model Kaya Wilkins, aka Okay Kaya, recorded the majority of her debut record in her Brooklyn apartment. The ethereal, melancholic bedroom-pop album delves into themes of racial identity, sexuality, insecurity, and mental health.  We talked to Kaya over the phone about the benefits of recording in her own home, playing White Stripes covers with her older brother, and her most favorite and least favorite condiments.
