As a door was bashed in, and a very ordinary seeming man was put in cuffs, the heinous crimes of the Claremont Serial Killer were finally brought to light. Todd Bowler, a former WA Tactical Group member has been on the other side of these investigations for several years, and during his career, was a lead member in several high profile cases.  He sat down with host Brent Sanders to talk through his career and to explain how he was part of the dramatic investigation that caught the Claremont Serial Killer.  To hear more from Todd, visit this link. Hour 3: We talked about being afraid of the open ocean and some embarrassing moments that took place in hot tubs.  Steve Palazzolo from Pro Football Focus joined the show. Steve had some insight on Paul Skenes since he nearly made it up the baseball ladder all the way to the majors. The guys asked Steve about the Steelers plan at wide receiver after signing Scotty Miller. Steve thinks the top half of the room has a lot of question marks besides George Pickens. Should the Steelers regret the Diontae Johnson trade? Steve does like what Roman Wilson brings to the table and if he can be the main man opposite of Pickens. The guys asked Steve his thoughts on the Steelers having conversations with Bud Dupree about a return.  Donny Football Debrief – The NFL Schedule Release is less than a week away.

Arpad Kun, VP of Engineering and Infrastructure at Bitrise, talk about cloud strategy, company culture and new challenges in the world of mobile apps and DevOps. Bitrise is a full-featured mobile CI/CD in the cloud. They create an end-to-end platform for mobile development that automates core workflows, shortens release cycles and provides a better understanding of how new pieces of code will affect live apps before their release. Why do Bitrise use the multi-cloud strategy and how do they find balance? How do they manage and invest in fast-scaling teams around the world? Listen to what Arpad has to say about a mobile DevOps company with a cute cat. As more of the world shifts to doing everything from their smartphones, the ability to build better iOS and Android apps has to move with it. Bitrise aims to be the go-to company closing the gap between that mobile demand and a company's ability to get apps out faster while also balancing all of the moving parts and complexities. Two years ago, Bitrise, headquartered in Budapest, went through Y Combinator's Growth Program to scale its company, and has now tripled its headcount and opened offices in London, San Francisco, Boston and Osaka. Bitrise announced $60 million in Series C funding in late 2021, led by Insight Partners, with participation from existing investors Partech, Open Ocean, Zobito, Fiedler Capital and Y Combinator.

What would water tell us if it could talk? How can each of us strengthen our relationship with the waterways and water bodies near our homes? Our special guests from Ocean Wise and Water Rangers joined us to discuss these questions and more, as we covered as much territory as Canada has coastline (well, maybe not that much...). Here's what else we dove into in this Earthy Chat:   *need-to-know facts about salt water and freshwater *the disconnection many people have with water and how this can be addressed *the impacts of climate change on our waterways *sustainable fishing and agricultural practices *citizen science and community monitoring to fill large data gaps *action steps like the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup and reducing the use of road salt Guests:  Daphne Austin is the Online Specialist for online learning and ocean literacy with Ocean Wise. Through virtual programming, she connects others to the ocean, inspiring them to become ‘ocean wise' to make positive choices for ocean health. Ocean Wise is a globally focused not-for-profit conservation organization on a mission to protect and restore the world's ocean. Laura Gilbert is the Community research coordinator for Water Rangers, which involves helping run projects and supporting their community of water testers. From webinars with first graders in the Yukon to excursions with students in after-school programs in Montréal, Laura loves to spark young learners' interest in science and caring for water. Kat Kavanagh is the Executive Director of Water Rangers. She was part of a winning team at the 2015 Aquahacking's Ottawa Summit, which "a two- day hack-a-thon to develop technical solutions for the Ottawa River. Her team's citizen science platform was essentially a prototype for what would later become Water Rangers." (adapted from the Water Rangers website) Several water-testing kits can be purchased now at Canada's Non-profit Outdoor Learning Store: https://outdoorlearningstore.com/product/water-education-testkit/

Jay Bregman is CEO & co-founder of Thimble, insurance that helps businesses succeed on their own terms. Thimble's customizable policies are designed for the uncertainty of starting, running, and growing a business in today's economic landscape. To date, Thimble has sold more than $175B in coverage to businesses across America via its award-winning app, partner APIs, and industry-leading broker tools. Their unique policies have attracted the likes of Hiscox, Lloyd's, and Angi, who have partnered with the insurtech to provide innovative solutions to their customers. Thimble has raised $30M from investors including IAC, Open Ocean and top VCs. Prior to Thimble, Jay founded Hailo, a ridesharing company in London backed by investors including Sir Richard Branson that was acquired by Daimler. Earlier, he founded and sold eCourier, a technology-enabled services company to Royal Mail. Key points from the episode Thimble is simple business insurance created with small business in mind and the need for flexibility, especially in challenging times like we are facing today Jay's background was in the micro-employment and gig space, so he was watching how business consumers' needs were changing and insurance wasn't changing with them They started in drones, which was a space Jay was personally interested in and saw how the way people were using their drones for episodic income had no fit-for-purpose coverage In meeting the needs of drone pilots, those same people started asking for solutions for their other sources of income Aviation was easier to navigate the regulations on, but regulation became a major theme for Thimble as they spread to other lines by embracing the idea of working with regulators rather than fighting against them This may require lobbying to help move the thinking on some regulations that were created at a very different time and situation than the current environment or nature of work and exposure The economic shock of the pandemic has shifted how many companies work Larger businesses decided they needed more flexibility than their annual policy, leading Thimble to see some larger risks than they had been seeing before Smaller businesses with spikes in their revenue saw more spikiness, making the flexibility of Thimble's approach even more attractive There has been more growth in the starting of small businesses that is unprecedented Insureds are used to "consumerized" experiences, and are increasingly intollerant of where this is missing Shifts coming - there is a shift in appetite for some of the startup carriers that had "simple" offerings early on (like Thimble when it was just offering drone coverage) to be able to compete on much more complex and complete offerings going forward once their platform is proven Making changes in a legacy carrier is possible, but you have to be willing to fight against your existing solutions that the change may be breaking, giving Thimble not just a head start, but a moat that should persist beyond just when legacy carriers start offering episodic solutions This episode is brought to you by Medallia (Medallia.com), and the book series, "The Future of Insurance: From Disruption to Evolution" by Bryan Falchuk (future-of-insurance.com).
