Abstract: Political legitimacy is a key concept related to the exercise of political power. Legitimacy was especially critical for “irregular kings,” so named because they were not automatically legitimated by the existing political structure. There are many examples of apologetics from the literature of the Ancient Near East that sought to bolster the legitimacy of irregular kings. The Book of Mormon uses similar apologetics to legitimate its own irregular rulers. The most striking example is seen in the case of Nephi (son of Lehi). Nephi provides dozens of arguments that strengthen his status as a divinely sanctioned king within an Ancient Near Eastern framework. Startlingly, Nephi and other Book of Mormon prophets also seem to have viewed Joseph Smith, the future seer who would bring their words to light, in similar terms. Joseph appears to have been presented as the legitimate heir of the Nephite royal line. The prophecies of the Book of Mormon and Joseph's receipt of the royal artifacts serve to bolster this claim. The post Irregular Kings and Precious Things: Viewing Nephi and Joseph Smith through the Lens of Ancient Near Eastern Kingship first appeared on The Interpreter Foundation.

Journey Of Wisdom Cruise - https://www.cwicmedia.com/journey-of-wisdom Just how flawed is the Old Testament? How much of it can we accept? Where did the Plain And Precious Things go in the Old Testament? What are the key omissions we know about? Where is Christ in the Old Testament if "all the prophets prophesied of me?" How does the Documentary Hypothesis fit in? What about the scribal schools of Joseph vs Judah? How was the Old Testament put together? Are we reading the results of just a few controlling editors and scribes with a different religion than the religion of the prophets? Website - www.cwicmedia.com
God takes sinners and, through His grace, transforms them into His precious treasures. By Christ's sacrifice, we are restored, forgiven, and made valuable in His sight. Through faith, we become God's cherished possession, proving that no one is beyond His redemptive love. The post The Precious Things of God appeared first on Preachers Corner.

In Her Image: Finding Heavenly Mother in Scripture, Scholarship, the Arts, & Everyday Life
Where is Heavenly Mother in the Temple, or where should we find Her in the Temple? Join me and David Butler as we break into temple literature and how understanding hebrew can give you keys to understanding more about the Divine Feminine. Dave takes the position that the Book of Mormon is an ancient document and also that the Book of Mormon is a work of temple literature. The Nephite prophets were members of an esoteric lineage that wrote for an audience that they expected to possess eyes to see and ears to hear, and the intended way to understand the meaning of their writings is to read through the lens of our own temple experience. He embodied his early thoughts in this vein in a pair of short books, Plain and Precious Things and The Goodness and the Mysteries, both self-published under the pen name D. John Butler. More recently, he published In the Language of Adam. https://a.co/d/fF7Fc8a https://a.co/d/fF7Fc8a https://a.co/d/491VwfE --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/inherimage/support

Join Julia Jeffress Sadler as she takes us on an incredible adventure in Episode 74. Imagine a time when King David brought a special chest, called the ark, to his city. This chest held important things, and David was so happy that he danced in the street to celebrate. But they had to be very careful with the ark because touching it was not allowed. It reminds us that some things are very precious and need to be treated with great respect, and celebrations can be a way to show how much we care. Val and I had a great discussion last week on the symbolism and context of Lehi's Dream. This is a follow-up to that episode. Here, we cover the symbolism and context of Nephi's vision which tag teams with Lehi's Dream. This is amazing stuff! We talk about the Tree of Life symbolism as the Divine Feminine, or Heavenly Mother, along with the loss of the "Plain and Precious Things" of which is the plurality of the God the Father, a Heavenly Mother, the Son of God, prophets, and ourselves. We completely dissect 1 Nephi 11. Website - www.cwicmedia.com
God's "Patriarchy" is part of what was lost in the time of Lehi, the Plain and Precious things. It is restored in 1 Nephi 1, Moses 1, and Abraham 3. It is the council of the Gods that we participate in. Interfaith work is different from missionary work. For those who don't have this experience, it is difficult not to fall into a missionary mindset. But there is goodness to be had in creating relationships with others even if the goal is not conversion. President Nelson gives great examples of this and summarizes this idea in his "Peacemakers" talk. I have arrived at my testimony in three different ways, Intellectual, Experience, and Spirit.
