SYNOPSIS:This is a recording of one of our free, live Eventbrite sessions, where Ali Mezey was joined by Jane Peterson, PhD - and you, our audience - for a live, honest, body-centered conversation about the real work of being in relationship.(Yes, this episode includes live audience questions!)Together, we explore how our bodies carry old relational patterns - what Jane calls the "social soma" - and how these hidden imprints can shape the way we love, fight, and stay (or don't stay) connected. We talk about why love alone isn't always enough to align two people's lives, and why asking deeper, more honest questions early on matters so much.Jane shares practical ways to stay close even when life pulls you in different directions: evolving agreements, repairing after hurt, setting shared goals, and building intimacy that grows with you.We touch on marriage, infidelity, and non-traditional relationships with honesty and warmth, offering grounded advice for navigating real-world love.Whether you're partnered, single, or somewhere in between, this conversation will leave you with new ways to understand yourself, your relationships, and the deep intelligence of your body in all of it.To be an angel to the podcast, click hereTo read more about the podcast, click hereMORE ALI MEZEY:Website:  www.alimezey.comPersonal Geometry® and the Magic of Mat Work Course information:www.alimezey.com/personal-geometry-foundationsTransgenerational Healing Films: www.constellationarts.comMORE JANE PETERSON:Website: www.human-systems-institute.comContact: humansystemsinstitute@gmail.comBIO:Jane Peterson, PhD, is the co-founder and executive director of the Human Systems Institute, Inc. Mick has had a diverse career since leaving school aged 15-years in 1972. He has worked as a builder's labourer, served as infantryman in the British Army for three and a half years, and between 1977-83 he travelled and worked around many parts of the world. “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation” (Henry Thoreau).  Therapist Simon Roe has based his life's work on helping men live an authentic life. After himself going through a period of quiet desperation in his mid-thirties, Simon went on to help men break the silence, find “the song inside” and overcome their experiences of depression, violence and loneliness.  Simon has also worked extensively with boys and their fathers to create rites of passage that can help boys claim a strong, authentic sense of their developing manhood. Simon Roe originally trained as a body psychotherapist, and is also a co-leader of the Mandorla Men's Rites of Passage programme. He has worked extensively with perpetrators of domestic violence, and is a Respect approved trainer and supervisor. Simon has completed a foundation course in Process Oriented Psychology.  Simon and Andrew also discuss the idea of answering “the call to adventure”, an idea powerfully captured in this poem by Rainer Maria Rilke:   Sometimes A Man Stands Up During Supper Sometimes a man stands up during supper and walks outdoors, and keeps on walking, because of a church that stands somewhere in the East.   And his children say blessings on him as if he were dead.   And another man, who remains inside his own house, dies there, inside the dishes and in the glasses, so that his children have to go far out into the world toward that same church , which he forgot.   Follow Up Join our Supporters Club to access exclusive behind-the-scenes content, fan requests and the chance to ask Andrew your own questions. A walk-on at Kansas State who was taken in the second round of the 2002 NFL draft by the New York Jets, Jon McGraw went on to play 10 pro seasons in the NFL, making stops with the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs along the way. For all his success, including winning the prestigious Ed Block Courage Award in 2011, the process of playing football wasn't always a great experience for the hard-nosed safety. The daily grind took its toll and he felt his focus was suffering. Toward the end of his career, McGraw stumbled across the concept of Process-Oriented Psychology. Instead of focusing on the end result, he learned to find purpose in the day-to-day aspects of the job and found joy in the sport again. This ultimately led McGraw to pursue an entrepreneurial path after football, sharing what he'd learned with other pro athletes and corporate executives working in high-stress environments. He co-founded Vision Pursue alongside his business partner, Russ Rausch, a former hedge fund operator. The topic of attachment has been becoming more and more prevalent in the world of relationships. The research is getting more and more clear about how important it is to understand attachment if we are to understand our own identity and our work with relationships. Research on attachment is guided by the assumption that the same motivational system that gives rise to the close emotional bond between parents and their children is responsible for the bond that develops between adults in emotionally intimate relationships. The interview today was with Annie Chen who wrote The Attachment Theory Workbook. Not only does it go into depth explaining the different attachment styles, it also has tons of great activities to find out more about yourself on a personal level.   I love giving oral sex to my lover. There's something deeply intimate and incredibly arousing about oral sex to me. Giving oral sex is an almost guaranteed way for me to turn myself on... But more important than that, it also opens my heart. It feels like a gift I'm giving my partner. It requires trust and surrender, especially if I'm in the mood to take my lover deep. I need to trust that he'll pay attention to me and not push too far. I need to feel like he's connected to me and appreciating me.  I know that not everyone shares my enthusiasm for it... It's one of those contentious issues that shows up with couples I work with in therapy sometimes.   Believe me, I get it. I understand how it isn't everyone's cup of tea. In today’s podcast I’m talking to Roger from curious creatures about oral sex. We share: Our likes and dislikes How to talk about oral How you can learn to feel more comfortable giving oral sex (if you want to)    More about Roger:  Roger Butler is the driving force behind Curious Creatures.  Roger was brought up white, middle-class, mostly heterosexual, and male. In addition to that lineage, they now identifies as kinky, tantric, polyamorous, queer, and very, very curious. Their training is in Process Oriented Psychology and the facilitation of groups, coupled with an extensive education in sexuality. Curious Creatures believes that sex is about delicious, hedonistic experience as well as being a path of self development and a contribution to a less violent world. They run workshops in a whole range of related topics in cities across Australia. On their podcast Curious Conversations about Sex, Rog speaks on topics as broad as complex relationship dynamics, body image, gender issues, sex in long-term relationships, kinky sex, abuse and trauma, modern tantra, and sex work.  To find out more or contact Rog, you can visit their website at: https://www.curiouscreatures.biz   If there are any other topics you want me to cover, people you want me to talk to or questions you want answered please connect with me on Insta!
