...in which we celebrate our 100th birthday with an ascent of Grasmere's favourite fell, Helm Crag, to consider the question: "What is the unique magic of the Lake District?" In the company of Little Langdale cragsman and author Bill Birkett, poet Harriet Fraser, photographer Rob Fraser and – sharing our birthday – 90-year-old Gordon Bambrough, we enjoy blue skies as we climb steadily to The Lion and the Lamb's rocky top. As we walk, we explore our own relationships with Cumbria, how each of us fell in love with north-country landscapes, and what the fells mean to us. As we rove, we are joined by dozens of Lakes-lovers who answer the same enduring question: "What is the magic of Lakeland for you?" before picking a piece of poetry or prose that articulates the magic for them. Our readers for the episode – with many thanks – are the brilliant Sue Allan and Jonathan Humble. Emily Hasler's poem 'Grasmere Lake' is taken from The Built Environment and is published by Pavilion Poetry at Liverpool University Press. Rebranding can be scary for a lot of brands. However, if done correctly, it can be a great opportunity to further grow your business and set the stage for success for years to come.In this episode, Jordan interviews Rob Fraser of Outway, formerly Endur. He talks about the rebrand they did and the thought process that led to a successful launch. He also shares his framework for thinking about brands and the important things you need to know about raising money.Listen up and learn from this episode.KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODEIf done correctly, you can use a rebranding opportunity as a tailwind, not a headwind. A brand can be likened to a human being with 3 core attributes: A name, an identity, and an essence. When Outway rebranded, what changed was its name, not its essence and its identity.Raising money should be looked at as an accelerant not a way to keep yourself alive.Bring in a strategic group of investors. Strategic investors are people who share your values. If your goals are not aligned, it's generally a pathway to misery. You don't know what you don't know and the more you learn, the more you know you don't know.Bootstrapping will teach you the lessons you need to learn early on.You should listen to your guts. The more time in the game, the more you understand that patience is key.Make decisions thinking in the long term, not in the short term.Every time you level up in business, you are a beginner at a new level again. The secret to scaling is building and nurturing a world-class team.Today's Guest:Rob Fraser is the founder and CEO of Outway.Outway is a brand that provides a wide range of bold performance socks.Connect and learn more about Rob Fraser and Outway here:Website: https://www.outway.com LinkedIn: https://calinkedin.com/in/robbfraser Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/robbfraser Rob Fraser's founding story: Ep 174: From Solo Operator to Multiple 7 Figures with Rob Fraser, Founder of Endūr https://bit.ly/3rZFa5QWe love our podcast community and listeners so much that we have decided to offer a free eCommerce Growth Plan for your brand! Time, process and perspectives - being artists in a complex world We want our listeners to share our wonder and curiosity about nature, embrace the complexity, take the time to enjoy the process of finding out more about our relationship with nature. Taking the time is, also, what Harriet and Rob Fraser of Somewhere Nowhere encourage us to do: take time, develop a deeper connection with nature and a more mindful, respectful study of it. They do this through the art of poetry, stories, photography and film to show the emotional element required to change hearts and minds, in addition to the facts and figures. Art, they say, is not just about an object you can see and touch. It is about what happens between people, when they take the time to understand each other, and nature. It is this kind of art that transforms people, encourages new thinking, and, hopefully we add, positive action. This bumper episode is the last in our second series, thank you for sharing this journey with us. *** The views we and our guests express in this podcast are our own. *** reference list Ann Stevenson - The opening line of one of her poems was "Somewhere Nowhere" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Stevenson Rebecca Solnit - Hope in the Dark

Socks were boring, but Rob Fraser is proving they can be a viable business. On today's episode we sit down with Rob Fraser, business founder and ex pro-athlete, who in 2015 enrolled in Camosun College with the goal of learning how to make a career in sports management. “When I was retired and went to school, I was the kid that always wore funky socks. I just kept wearing them,” Fraser said. “I was literally, ‘the sock guy.'” In September 2016, Fraser founded the athletic apparel company endūr, now Outway. Fraser saw the opportunity as a way to stay in sports and create a brand that helped athletes express their own creativity. He also saw a lucrative chance to carve a niche in an industry that wasn't keeping up with a changing athletic apparel industry in the 2010s. In five years, endūr has grown from a company that began with an initial $1,000 investment into one that has earned millions. Connect With Rob: Twitter Want to hear about new episodes? It's the definition of a local success story. In a small Victoria basement in 2016, Rob Fraser came up with the idea to create some fashionable, athletic socks. Sometimes cars do things for you that are meant to be helpful but they're not what you want. I stopped on the side of the road the other day because I thought I saw something suspicious. It was at night and I thought I might just observe. The car was the new Mini Cooper. I pulled over and turned the engine off. As soon as I did that the interior lights came on. I was lit up like a Christmas tree. That's not what I wanted. I interviewed my motoring colleague Rob Fraser and we began to compile a list which includes: • Warning chimes that don't tell you exactly what is wrong • The volume on the radio always coming on when you turn the car on even when you have turned it off the night before. • Navigation instructions that stop showing or telling you where to go when someone rings in on the phone. • Cars that lock all the doors when you start travelling to pick up some passengers and then hide the “unlock” from easy access. • Buttons on the key fob to unlock the rear hatch door that don't work unless the car is turned off/doors locked etc. Send other examples of things that annoy you to feedback@drivenmedia.com.au
