Short description David Brown and Paul Murrell explore the forces reshaping the automotive world, from Porsche's restructuring and Honda's compact electric city car to Hyundai's 40-year journey in Australia. They celebrate engineering heritage, review the Bentley Continental GTC plug-in hybrid and the Mazda MX-5 RF, and examine how open-source software is changing in-car technology. Along the way, they reflect on classic cars, transport planning, vehicle design and why driving enjoyment still matters as the industry evolves. Episode Breakdown • Porsche restructures and EV reality — 00:01:23 • Honda's compact electric city car — 00:08:07 • Preserving engineering heritage — 00:17:42 • Hyundai marks 40 years in Australia — 00:27:06 • Bentley Continental GTC review — 00:32:34 • Motoring memories and classics — 00:38:21 • Android Open Source Project in cars — 00:42:08 • Mazda MX-5 RF road test — 00:55:10 Full summary Porsche restructures and EV reality Porsche's planned workforce reductions prompt discussion about changing global demand, slowing EV uptake and the importance of balancing electric, hybrid and petrol models. The conversation also explores premium pricing, tariffs and why iconic models such as the 911 continue to underpin the brand. Honda's compact electric city car Honda's new small electric hatch sparks a broader look at Japan's kei car heritage, urban mobility and practical vehicle sizing. David and Paul argue that compact cars could ease congestion, improve parking efficiency and better match everyday driving needs. Preserving engineering heritage Recognition for long-time Pyrmont Bridge custodian David Glasson leads to a discussion about maintaining historic infrastructure and passing specialist engineering skills to future generations. The pair draw parallels with classic car restoration and the value of keeping mechanical knowledge alive. Hyundai marks 40 years in Australia Hyundai's evolution from budget newcomer to mainstream leader highlights changing perceptions of Korean vehicles. The discussion covers drive-away pricing, longer warranties and the brand's role in reshaping Australian consumer expectations. Bentley Continental GTC review Paul reviews Bentley's plug-in hybrid convertible, praising its refinement, effortless performance and exceptional comfort. Despite its extraordinary engineering and luxury, the high purchase price and ownership practicality remain part of the conversation. Motoring memories and classics Stories from Cars and Coffee gatherings, historic Chargers, Minis and other classics celebrate Australia's motoring culture. The segment reflects on how enthusiast communities preserve automotive history through shared experiences and restoration. Android Open Source Project in cars Alan Zervis explains how Android Open Source Project underpins many modern vehicle infotainment systems while remaining separate from Android Auto. The discussion examines software-defined vehicles, over-the-air updates, interface design and why intuitive controls remain essential for safe driving. Mazda MX-5 RF road test David Brown and Paul Murrell celebrate the enduring appeal of the Mazda MX-5 RF, using The Unbearable Lightness of Being as a metaphor for the car's lightweight philosophy. They praise its 1,100kg kerb weight, six-speed manual gearbox, naturally aspirated engine and retractable fastback roof, arguing that involvement, balance and driver engagement matter more than outright speed. The discussion explores how the MX-5 has remained true to its original concept since 1989, becoming the world's best-selling two-seat sports car while resisting the trend towards heavier, more powerful vehicles. They conclude that its modest performance is usable in everyday driving, making it one of the most rewarding sports cars on Australian roads. Zibby shares how her work as a podcaster grew from meaningful conversations with authors into live events, publishing, and a broader community shaped by paying close attention to what resonated. How do you keep building when there is no clear roadmap and the business keeps changing?Zibby shares how she makes decisions inside a business that refuses to stay static. She explains how creating an umbrella brand helped her clarify who the company exists for and what truly belongs, even when that meant letting go of projects she loved. Structure arrived when it was necessary, not because she chased scale, but because the work demanded it.Zibby also talks about the cost of showing up publicly with conviction after October 7th. She reflects on backlash, strained relationships, and the emotional weight of choosing to speak openly. That choice led her to step more fully into her role as an advocate, using Zibby Media to create an anthology that gathered stories and offered connection during a moment of crisis. This episode shows listeners what it really takes to grow a business without a script, hold firm to your values, and keep showing up when the stakes are personal as well as professional.Episode Breakdown:00:00 Leadership, Visibility, And Responsibility After October 7th 02:22 Building Zibby Media Without A Traditional Business Plan 06:01 Becoming A Podcaster And Turning Conversations Into Community 08:16 Expanding From Podcast To Publishing Company And Bookstore 13:55 Rebranding To Zibby Media And Creating An Umbrella Brand 18:31 How To Know When A Business Idea Is Not Working 22:46 The Cost Of Speaking Publicly And Staying Authentic 26:45 National Book Awards Decision And Defining Values In Business 29:05 Creating An Anthology And Stepping Into Advocacy 34:39 The Hard Realities Of Growth: Hiring, Events, And Monetization 40:58 Advice For Women Building A BusinessConnect with Zibby Owens:Follow Zibby on Instagram Follow Zibby Publishing on Instagram Follow Zibby's Bookshop on Instagram Follow Totally Booked with Zibby on Instagram Visit Zibby Media Visit Zibby's websiteJoin us for the Dear FoundHer... In this episode… Press releases have long been a powerful way for businesses to share their stories, but in today's fast-changing media landscape, are they still effective? With AI reshaping how information is consumed and ranked, can companies still rely on press releases to build authority and credibility? According to Mickie Kennedy, a seasoned PR expert with decades of experience helping businesses get national media coverage, press releases remain a vital tool when done strategically. He explains that while most releases fail to generate earned media, combining strong data, powerful quotes, and timely angles dramatically increases success. He highlights how AI now gives press releases surprising visibility by prioritizing recency and credibility, while also allowing smaller businesses to appear alongside major outlets. The real key, Mickie stresses, is blending human creativity with AI's efficiency to craft releases that stand out, build trust, and drive lasting growth. In this conversation, Alexis Schwartz, Head of Purpose Partnerships at The Guardian US, discusses how quality journalism can drive social impact and sustainability forward. She explains The Guardian's unique funding model that keeps journalism accessible by eliminating paywalls, which she argues breed inequity. Schwartz explores "the hush" - a recent phenomenon where brands have pulled back from publicly discussing DEI and sustainability initiatives due to fear of backlash and economic uncertainty. Through examples of The Guardian's partnerships with organizations like Doctors Without Borders and Bloomberg Philanthropies, she illustrates how media can effectively humanize sustainability and social justice stories. Schwartz emphasizes the importance of trusted media environments in combating misinformation and shares hope in seeing communities come together to address climate challenges.

The public's trust in the media is at an all time low. Perhaps it's time to simply hand over the newspapers, cameras and microphones to our children, to get their take on the news. This is the premise for a show called News News News that two British theatre-makers are creating with children from Mount Maunganui Primary for the Tauranga Festival. It'll be filmed in front of a live audience and broadcast online. Andy Field and Beckie Darlington have created similar shows overseas - so Lynn Freeman was curious to find out if Kiwi kids were bringing a new perspective to the studio. She spoke to three of the budding journalists - Indigo, Arlie and Laurie - and to Andy Field. News News News by Andy Field and Beckie Darlington - with Rosabel Tan & students from Mount Maunganui Primary - plays at the Addison Theatre in Tauranga on Saturday October 15.
