Welcome to Drum Channel with Billy Amendola. This week I'm speaking with not only an award-winning singer/songwriter, author, keyboardist, and A-game touring and recording drummer, he is one of my favorite people on the planet, Joe Vitale. Vitale has been close pals with his boss of 55 years, and still tours and records with him to this day, the legendary Joe Walsh. (Vitale co-wrote “Rocky Mountain Way”), He's written, recorded, and toured with The Eagles, (writing “Pretty Maids All in a Row,” for Hotel California, one of the biggest selling albums of all-time). In his early days he's toured and or recorded or both with Ted Nugent (before hooking up in Walsh' band), Rick Derringer, Peter Frampton, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, as well as a solo Neil Young, and more.  His autobiography “Backstage Pass” came out in 2008 (still available), he's a favorite at Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp, and on November 13th, 2022, he'll be performing on an all-star concert with Joe Walsh for Walsh's yearly event to help raise money for the veterans in Columbus, Ohio. Let's welcome Joe Vitale.

Baltimore Beatdown: for Baltimore Ravens fans

What's up everyone? The pod is back on this fine midday Friday to talk some Ravens, and their upcoming matchup with the Broncos in Denver. After a dramatic win, the Ravens enter the game at 2-1, perhaps feeling that luck has been on their side at time this season, while the Broncos have taken care of business against a soft schedule to work their way to a perfect 3-0. Teddy Bridgewater has looked good, Denver's defense (the unit which this team is predicated on) has been very good, and as such, Baltimore will have their hands full this week if they want to prove that they belong amongst the AFC's elite. With a full injury report on both sides, the boys dive into the matchup, look at how that could effect things, talk about some of the battles they think could prove crucial, and of course provide their predictions. We hope you all enjoy, and we'll talk to you again next week! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Episode 27 of Season 4 aired at 7 pm on 8 July  2021.  We kicked off suitably with 'Jailbreak' by ACDC and then kept it there with U.D.O. and Animal Drive.  Next up we had a bit of vintage Def Leppard off the Mutt Lange produced High 'n' Dry and some classic Led Zeppelin.  One of the highlights was Ozzy Osbourne's cover of Joe Walsh's 'Rocky Mountain Way', it off his 1995 release Under Cover and features Jerry Cantrell doing the guitar work, it's a wonderful track.  Another wonderful track was Pearl Jam with 'Yellow Ledbetter', nice to hear Mike McCreedy out Hendrixing Hendrix.  Other than that I didn't want to spend too much of the show gloating about Zuma going to jail but it was necessary to play Pink Floyd's 'The Trial' off The Wall and highlight the immortal lines "Of all my years of judging I have never heard before, of someone more deserving the full penalties of law".  I said my second last word about this and played Bruce Springsteen's 'One Minute You're Here'.  I think the point has been made.  The punk piece was fun with Blink 182, Green Day, and Sham 69 with 'Borstal Breakout'.  From Punk we went sort of proggy with a band out of Helsinki called Wheel and then we went to Sweden for a track off the brand new At The Gates album called The Nightmare of Being. I mentioned In Flames as being the band that members of At The Gates went to but it was actually The Haunted.  Other than that it was good fun and going from Parkway Drive to Crosby stills, Nash and Young is probably a radio first.  Short of SA stuff again this week, all we managed to hit was Derick Hougaat's favourite band Van Coke Kartel.  Good times, see you next week m/ Artists featured:  ACDC, U.D.O., Animal Drive, Def Leppard, Chickenfoot, Led Zeppelin, Voices of Extreme, Overkill, Ricky Warwick, RavenEye, Mercyful Fate, Gov't Mule, Ozzy Osbourne, Pearl Jam, Jimmy Barnes, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, Godsmack, Marilyn Manson, Soil, Soul Asylum, Blink 182, Green Day, Sham 69, Wheel, At The Gates, Van Halen Thunder, Mötley Crüe, Buckcherry, Judas Priest, Journey, Parkway Drive, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Smith / Kotzen, Type O Negative, Van Coke Kartel, Rancid, Motörhead, My Chemical Romance.

To purchase Joe's book, "Backstage Pass" written by Susie Vitale: www.JoeVitaleOnDrums.com Joe Vitale is a fascinating character. He is what is known in the music industry as a "Utility Man." He is the kind of guy who will show up at your home and fix all those things your husband promised he would fix but never did. After he is done, the guy next door hears about him and hires him to fix all of his forlorn projects as well. Then the family down the street hears about him and there's even more work for him to do and he does it all--correctly! That's exactly what Joe has been doing in the Rock & Roll business for some of the country's top bands including THE EAGLES who hired him so they could put DON HENLEY out front instead of way in the back of the stage hidden behind a drum kit. In addition, Joe also co-wrote the hugely popular Rock classic "Rocky Mountain Way" with JOE WALSH--a lifelong friend since college at Kent State University. He knows how to tell a correct Rock & Roll story which is exactly what he did many times to his wife, Susie, and she wrote a book about it called "Backstage Pass." Instead of the normal one-hour, this show clocks in a half-hour overtime and the stories are no where near completed. Get his book! It would be a perfect gift for that lazy husband who keeps saying he will complete the "Honey Do List" but never does. For all you wives out there, this book is the perfect way to experience the illusive Rock & Roll lifestyle without reading a fiction novel someone has invented and made up. All Joe's stories are non-fiction and true. The book you buy will be autographed by both Joe and Susie. It comes highly recommended by Rick Flynn Presents who now places this new interview in world wide circulation in a manner which couldn't be more entertaining for our audience to experience. We just can't wait till he arrives in Greater Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio. There's a bunch of jobs backed up on that darn list for him to complete here too, but other than that, Rick says, "Life's Been Good To Me So Far!" In the 2013 documentary History of the Eagles, the late Glenn Frey describes his bandmate Joe Walsh as “an interesting bunch of guys.” The statement is meant to be comedic relief, there to set up the story of how the wild, unpredictable Joe Walsh — the one famous for hotel room trashing antics — ushered in a new chapter of the Eagles’ late-70s hedonism. But, if you take a closer look, the description rings true for his musical sensibilities, as well. Few places can it apply more aptly than 1973’s The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get, Walsh’s second solo album in collaboration with his band Barnstorm. Though the album would come to be remembered mostly for its lasting arena rock hit “Rocky Mountain Way,” Walsh explores all of his musical personalities, from the dad rock shredder to the softer, more introspective, singer-songwriter to the psychedelic-influenced long-winded jammer. In this episode, we dig through the varied influences Walsh pulls from, discuss Barnstorm members' individual contributions, unpack the multitudes Joe Walsh contains, and more.

Topics: The Grateful Dead, Heil Talk Box, Ham Radio, The Who, Joe Walsh   Synopsis: If you’ve ever listened to Joe Walsh’s “Rocky Mountain Way” or “Do You Feel Like I Do”” by Peter Frampton, you of course heard of the Heil Talk Box. In addition to building that iconic device, Bob Heil also built touring systems for The Who, Humble Pie, and the Grateful Dead. Bob has a history in concert sound that few can match. He continues to be an innovator by designing and building microphones that are used on concert stages, recording studios, broadcast rooms, and podcasts.   In this introductory episode of "50 Years of Maximum Rock n' Roll," Bob traces the story of his success from his early days as a substitute organist at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, all the way to the world’s biggest concert stages. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how Bob helped shape the music of Joe Walsh, Jerry Garcia, and many other heroes of rock ‘n’ roll.   Prepare to be inspired and entertained by the story of Heil Sound: the company that not only listens to artists, but does something about it.   Links & Resources   The Night That Modern Live Sound Was Born (the historic story of how Bob saved The Grateful Dead’s concert at the Fox Theatre)   Heil Sound   The Grateful Dead   Joe Walsh   The Who

You can control the amount with the send fader. However, when I want to compress two tracks, say two vocal tracks while recording, I don't think it works the same way. I think you need to send each track through its own compressor. Otherwise transients from one would affect compression on the other. What's your opinion?" Celebrity Interview: Al explains that a while back he found another podcast about home recording that he really enjoyed called Home Studio And Audio Review. Unfortunately, it's no longer being produced, but all of the shows are still available for download. Mike and Al caught up with one of the hosts of the show, Mr. Matt Long.
