In this podcast, Anna is with Samantha Cameron (Sam). Sam is a mum of 5 and married to her hubby Rich, for over 5 years she has helped business owners with their social media through her social media agency, coaching, and training.    In March 2021 Sam and her family's lives were turned upside down when her son Beau 10 at the time became very ill and stopped, walking, talking, and eating overnight.  For 18 months, Sam became Beau's full-time carer as well as juggling her business. In August last year, Beau was diagnosed with a rare life-threatening mental health condition called PAWS (Pervasive Arousal Withdrawal Syndrome).    The last 18 months have been one hell of a journey and as a family, they have been working on Beau's recovery and healing themselves. Sam is first generation Albanian American who has represented young women in our community in such a positive way. More than just a beauty queen, she is an inspiration, advocate, and role model for so many young women. She persevered and won Miss Connecticut Teen USA when she was 18 years old, and went on to represent her state in the Miss Teen USA competition a few weeks ago where she was in the top 16 finalists. She is also going to college majoring in political science in hopes to become a lawyer and fight for human rights. She has been an advocate for the voiceless and fighting against human trafficking, and also spreading kindness. She speaks to students on preventing bullying and ways to combat it. This interview is a re-release interview I did on the Strength N Mind podcast with my friend Sam Demma. Sam is a former soccer player out of Canada who's injuries sidelined and ultimately cut his promising career short. He didn't let that affect the rest of his life. He put a theory his world issues teacher provided him and put it into practice. He later shared that story on the TEDxYouth@Toronto stage a year after. He created and founded Pickwaste with his friend Dillion Mendes, which rapidly became a top environmental movement in Canada, eclipsing 70 cleanups and over 850 trash bags filled. Sam was named a top 25 environmentalist under the age of 25.   His mission now is to speak to youth through his own brand, helping them answer the question: "Can I make a difference?" Sam is just getting started. Listen in as we dive deep into his story surrounding soccer, his injuries, and what his purpose is now and going forward. She has been doing Intermittent Fasting since April 2018 and has lost more than 50 pounds. John Bukenas is a podcast editor from New Jersey. He started the podcast doing keto and intermittent fasting, but is now gearing up for bariatric surgery (probably) later this summer. John’s special lady friend has come to visit and he’s been having a great week! With her staying with him, they’ve been having fun eating together and cooking together! What do you do for your diet while on vacation/staycation? Our friend Lisa was going for surgery the day we recorded. Her surgery was a success and we are wishing Lisa a speedy recovery! Don’t have a notepad ready for John’s Frittata Recipe? Here it is! Saute the peppers, onions, and mushrooms until tender. Remove veggies and keep warm Combine 12 eggs plus about a ¼ cup of half-and-half and fry in oven-safe frying pan for a bit until the bottom develops a skin. Add veggies and some cheese Bake at 350 degrees F for about 15 minutes Add more cheese on top and bake for another 5 minutes John is gearing up for bariatric surgery by seeing a therapist and he was shocked that 95 percent of people with eating disorders fail after bariatric surgery because they haven’t gotten the overeating under control. His date has been pushed off again so he can get some help getting his emotional eating under control. “I’m starting to see the big picture. It’s almost like I’m backing up and I’m looking at this whole situation from over-top and afar and I’m seeing more than I’ve ever been able to see before.”  — This week’s John-spiration! Emily decided to measure herself for the first time in a while — she’s lost 10 pounds since the last time she weighed herself. If you haven’t started measuring yourself yet, definitely try it, but not so often. Check back every few weeks and compare. Even if the scale doesn’t move much, you’ll be surprised at how your body changes when you’re dieting and exercising. Emily is also in a groove with Intermittent Fasting, but that’s because it works really well with her lifestyle. The fasting hours can be rigid for some, especially if you like your coffee with cream and/or sugar. But for Emily, since she didn’t have to think about eating anything for 16 hours, it works really well. And, in case anyone is curious, the Burger King tacos are not as good as Taco Bell tacos. Sam's a former marine and has designed a trauma kit specifically for spearfishing so this episode covers a tonne of first responder information.
