Manhattan: The Rising War by Sal Cosenza. A surreal, genre-blending adventure in a reimagined “city that never sleeps…”Inspired by Sal Cosenza's acclaimed painting series, as well as his decades-long fascination with the city's landmarks and icons, Manhattan: The Rising War is an ambitious, otherworldly evocation of urban living, and what it means to be a part of it.Lady Liberty, that classic icon in the harbor, is born as a living, breathing building under the eye of eager spectators on a strange island called Manhattan. Before long, the colossal statue, whose very existence is an amazing feat of architectural magic, learns of her human creator's desire to raise her based on life-giving ways of the ancient god, Schist. But her creator also warns of the rage-fueled deity called Pegmatite, even as Lady Liberty motivates humanity with a new wave of “towering giants'' that welcomes all and inspires the world with endless possibilities.
Metals One CEO Jonathan Owen joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce promising re-assay results from the Black Schist Project in Finland, revealing high-grade nickel-copper-cobalt-zinc mineralization at the Paltamo P1 target. The historical diamond core drillholes re-assayed by the company showed strong intersections of mineralization within a black schist sequence, reinforcing Metals One's aim to expand its existing resource from 57.1 Mt to a potential 200 Mt. The P1 target, located 8 km north of P5, has shown promising indications of a larger, shallow mineral resource. Historical drilling in the area identified a 15m-25m thick zone of nickel mineralization, with potential for expansion to the west, north, and south. These results bolster Metals One's resource expansion strategy, and the company is now considering a drilling program to further define the resource area based on the re-assay findings. This discovery marks another step forward for Metals One in its ongoing exploration and resource-building efforts at the Black Schist Project. #proactiveinvestors #metalsone #aim #met1 #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Metals One PLC (AIM:MET1) CEO Jonathan Owen joined Proactive's Stephen Gunnion with an update on the company's strategy for its Black Schist projects in Finland, aiming for economic extraction of assets. The goal is to develop a 200 million-tonne resource over the next 24 to 36 months, targeting a mine life of 20 years with an annual production of 20 million tonnes. Currently, Metals One has identified 20 million tonnes at one site (R1) and 16 to 24 million tonnes at another (P5), both offering significant expansion opportunities. The company is also exploring regionally, having recently pegged new ground for further development. Recent drilling programs have yielded encouraging results, including notable intersections of mineralized black schist, extending the mineralization further east. This has led to the acquisition of additional ground for future exploration. Metals One aims to quickly elevate the P5 target from an exploration target to a mineral resource, leveraging unassayed historical drill cores to potentially increase the resource size without additional drilling. The company has also identified new targets for exploration, with the K1 site scheduled for drilling in the coming months. The long-term vision is to become a supplier of critical metals for Europe's green transition, addressing the EU's structural deficit in the supply of critical minerals for battery production and other green technologies. #MetalsOne #Mining #Finland #BlackSchist #CriticalMetals #GreenTransition #MineralExploration #ResourceDevelopment #SustainableMining #EuropeanMining #ProactiveInvestors #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

This episode highlights the beautiful region of Anjou Noir, located in Loire Valley, France. Ivan Massonat joins the conversation and brings insight to the region, the geology, and even a bit of history and culture. Massonat became a vintner by passion. He was a Parisian businessman originally from the region of Savoie in the French Alps. Thus, he was always surrounded by wine and at one point in his life he's become obsessed with it. His passion led him to invest in a few winery projects by his winemaker friends. And then in 2018, he purchased the estate of the Loire trailblazer, Jo Pithon, as well as several other parcels. This is when he created Domaine Belargus. The idea behind this project is to portray the diversity of microterroirs in the Anjou area. As the vehicle, or the instrument as Massonat likes to call it, they chose Chenin Blanc. Many professionals would agree that Chenin is a perfect grape variety to display the terroir.
‘From virtually any soil a high-quality wine can be made. The use of geology to promote the quality of a wine is thus merely a marketing tool.' This is an episode that may ruffle a few feathers. We speak to two wine-loving geologists, Professor Alex Maltman and Dr Geert-Jan Vis (the latter responsible for the quote above). Both of them raise serious questions about the line the wine world often endorses about how geology (think: limestone, schist, granite) influences wine.Vis calls the notion that geology and soil influence wine style, ‘romantic b*llocks'. Maltman says it's, ‘over-hyped' and writes, ‘simply saying a wine comes from a particular rock doesn't convey anything about what I might expect from a wine.' And yet we regularly see wine literature talking about limestone or granite, Kimmeridgian or Jurassic (and so on) and linking this explicitly to wine quality and style. And this isn't even to get started on the topic of ‘minerality' in wine…So what gives? What's really going on here? To what extent can geology and soil be seen to impact the vine and wine? Or, to flip it round, to what extent do experts think that the role of geology and soil is over-rated and misunderstood when it comes to wine? It's important to say we're not being deliberately controversial or trying to undermine the concept of terroir (the notion that specific places produce wines with specific characteristics). What we're doing is asking questions and challenging a set of prevalent assumptions which we feel is…well…questionable. We're aware this episode might provoke debate so please feel free to get in touch. Send us a voice message via Speakpipe or you can find more details to get in touch on our website. All details from this episode are on our website: Show notes for Wine Blast S4 E20: No Schist Sherlock - How Wine Gets Rocks Wrong. This is the first in a loosely-connected series of programmes in which we'll tackle tricky or controversial issues in wine, from minerality to microbiology and yeasts. For Andrea Charest, climbing is entwined with community. She and her husband Steve own Petra Cliffs, a climbing gym and mountaineering school in Burlington, Vermont where they also work as guides. She's volunteered much of her time over the years to Crag Vermont, a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving, protecting and advocating for climbing access in the Green Mountain State (her's is the first face you see on the organization's website–a face that is surprisingly calm as as she reaches for a sloper high overhead). She empowers her fellow climbers to take the lead, and has a knack for enabling others to move past their perceived limitations. Earlier this year, Charest became an AMGA-certified ice climbing instructor, a hard-earned goal years in the making. In this conversation, we talk about her journey through the ice instructor exam, and how she balances business, play and parenthood. Charest shares her love for the global climbing community, her excitement around the continued growth of Petra Cliffs, and the importance of helping climbers make the transition from the gym to the crag. A tasting term, specific elements in the soil and grapes, and even geological elements and rock types; the term minerality in the context of wine has taken up a rather broad usage. Robert and Peter explore a bit of the science, the use of the term as a tasting descriptor, and how the industry has used minerality as a sales tool. Listen to grasp a hold on how the term is used and what it is used for. Detailed show notes: Minerality as a wine term started in the 1980sA tasting term - related to flint, matchstick, chalk, saline charactersMineral elements - e.g. - potassium, phosphorus, calcium, etc…Geologic elements - e.g. - quartz, limestone, etc…As a style of wineMinerality is like a macro tasting term, like “fruity”Can have sub-elements to the category, e.g. - reduction/sulfur related compounds, stone related, saline / salty relatedAs a flavor, it is not from the actual minerals in the rocks in the soilMinerality could be a positive term for the absence of fruity and floral flavors in a wineIt comes from a combination of terroir and winemakingWines generally associated with mineralityWhites: Chablis, Sauv Blanc (e.g. - Sancerre), Gruner Veltliner, Alvarinho, Chenin Blanc, Rieslings, AssyrtikoReds: Pinot Noir, Cab FrancUsing minerality as a sales toolSome wineries have labels that specify rocks/soil typesE.g. - Didier Dagueneau’s Silex; Mullineux’s Schist, Granite, Iron; Dr. Loosen’s Blue / Red Slate RieslingsBut, these wines may not necessarily be referring to minerality in the winesSommeliers and restaurants tend to enjoy minerally wines and may have sections on their wine lists for themRetail stores that are organized by wine style do not yet use the term, but may in the futureRandall Graham of Bonny Doon experimented with infusing rocks into wine, but that led to higher levels of other trace materials and was shut down by the government

GIANT-SIZED MAN-THING #2 F.A. Schist may be dead, but his influence is still present in the swamp. Christopher Golden and Brian Keene recap the second issue of Marvel's Giant-Size Man-Thing, guest-starring Iron Man and the Fantastic Four.
THE FINAL BATTLE It's the final battle between the Man-Thing and F.A. Schist, with the fate of the Fountain of Youth hanging in the balance, as Christopher Golden and Brian Keene recount Marvel's The Man-Thing issues 7 and 8.
AS REALITY COLLAPSES As Howard the Duck falls, only Man-Thing and his remaining companions stand against the collapse of reality itself. Plus, F.A. Schist seeks revenge against the much monster, but so do a motorcycle gang. Christopher Golden and Brian Keene discuss Marvel's Man-Thing issues 1 and 2.

Bringing in feelings of Alberobello in Italy or incredible Incan villages in the Andes (South America), this Schist village blew me away. It's so prehistoric and meditative to build structures in a manner that contradicts gravity thanks to balance. . Needless to say, Coimbra shouldn't be muffled as it's a historically important university city which is almost as photogenic as the ruins in the hills.
MAN-THINGS FACES OFF The Man-Thing faces off against construction tycoon F. A. One of the greatest wines of the world is the Syrah-based Côte Rôtie, from the northernmost appellation in the northern Rhône. Named "roasted slope" after the sun that bathes the south-facing slopes, the region is less than 25 miles south of Lyon near the town of Ampuis, and is at the cool-climate limit for growing Syrah. On the right bank of the Rhône, across 3 communes of Saint-Cyr sur Rhône, Ampuis, and Tupin-Semons, the vineyards are on extremes slopes at 180m/590 ft and 325m/1070 ft above sea level. This week we explain what makes these wines, from this tiny, historic area, so very fascinating and why they truly are one of the greatest wines in the world. I think the best thing to do in the show notes this time is to list the things that are hard to catch on the show. Rather than a lengthy recap, this time I'll list the regions and producers mentioned! Sub areas Ampuis: The area that lies above Ampuis town contains the best sites. The Reynard River serves as the geological dividing lie between the schist soils of the northern part of the appellation, and the granite soils in the south. Schist: Cote Brune – Schist soils make powerful, tannic, darker Chavaroche – Borders Cote Brune. Bernard Levet produces a single vineyard Cote Rotie from here La Landonne – Famed for Guigal’s La Landonne but Gerinn, Rene Rostaing, Delas and Xavier Gerard also make wine from here Cote Rozier- some of the steepest sites in Cote Rotie. Great wines include Ogier’s Belle Helene, and wines from Jamet, Guigal, Bonnefond and Gangloff Granite: Cote blonde – Vastly different soils and more Viognier. The soil is granite and the wines are more aromatic and lighter. The famed La Mouline vineyard is here The village of Tupin has no single vineyards but makes some great wine The Village of Verenay is the next village upstream from Ampuis, and producers full, rich, long-lived wines. The vineyards of interest are Grandes Places, and Vialliere (10 hectares makes it quite variable in quality) St Cyr is in the far north of the AOC, past Verenay. It was added in the 1960s and is on schist but not as good as the wines near Ampuis. Top Producers TRADITIONAL: Domaine Gilles Barge –most traditional practices,Domaine Bernard Levet MODERN: Guigal, Gerin, Bonnefond Middle ground: Domaine Jamet: one of the brothers went off to set up his own domaine, Jean-Luc Jamet, both are very good Rene Rostaing: Rene's son Pierre took over a few years ago – wines are amazing. Single vineyards from Cote Blonde and La Landonee, Ampodium blend for early drinking. Clusel-Roch from Verenay, single vineyard from Grandes Places Stephane Ogier Vidal-Fleury (the merchant house for which Marcel Guigal's father once worked as cellarmaster but which now belongs to Guigal). Chapoutier Top Vintages: 1997, 1998, 2001, 2003, 2007, 2009-10, 2012, 2015-19 _______________________________________________ Thanks to our sponsors this week: Thanks to YOU! Famed Chenin Blanc stan Jame Sligh returns to discuss schist, gneiss, orthagneiss and why we can't get girls to answer our texts. Like last time, all the legally actionable stuff got cut, so don't worry. The boys discuss geology and science, so get those elbow pads and arched eyebrows ready. Kevin did so much research and Duck got a car. We joke about this a lot, but this ENTIRE SEASON is about Muscadet. You might want to listen to episode 51 to get some baseline knowledge about muscadet, even though this is dreadfully educational AND funny. Please go to James' classes at Compagnie des vins surnaturels or just go to the bar there and demand his services. He's a good boy. The push and pull between religion and science has shaped advances in geology from the beginning. David Montgomery set out to debunk Noah’s Flood; instead he discovered this biblical story was the plate tectonics of its day. He tells us how the evolution of landscapes and geological processes shape ecology and humanity. And, how we should read rocks for the stories they tell about who we are and where we came from.
Krista Tippett interviewed geologist David R. Montgomery on July 3, 2013. This interview is included in the show ‘Reading the Rocks.’ Download the mp3 of the produced show at onbeing.org.
