The mosque terrorist claims prison conditions essentially forced him to plead guilty to his crimes. The shooter has addressed three Court of Appeal judges in Wellington in a bid to vacate his guilty pleas for murder, attempted murder, and terrorism - in March 2019. He's serving life in prison. Newstalk ZB's Emily Ansell says Tarrant told the court solitary confinement, being under constant observation and the lack of reading materials helped his health decline. "He also mentioned he thought guards were playing mind games with him and telling him they couldn't understand what he was saying. So all of this, he says, led to something of an identity crisis." Kindling Quiet Romance: Reimagining the Law for Nature - with Brontie Ansell of Lawyers for Nature

In the midst of collapse, as we watch our governments lay waste to our social agreements, it can be hard to imagine extending the franchise of legal rights to Nature and the More than Human world.  And yet, if we're to transcend this moment, it must be because we have become something other than we are now - and to do this, we need the roadmaps that show us how to move through, and beyond, the collapse of the old into something new. We spoke to Ally Pimor about this a couple of weeks ago and when I first met her, I also met this week's guest and they had so much to say that I wanted to talk to each of them.  So with this in mind, this week's guest is Brontie Ansell, the founder and co-director of Lawyers for Nature. Brontie founded Lawyers for Nature in 2019 with the (fairly infamous) barrister Paul Powlesland, they are a collective of lawyers who act to represent Nature. They reimagine the law for Nature and advocate for Nature to be given legal rights through education, Nature centric governance, consultancy, research and advocacy. Last year Lawyers for Nature were behind the We Are Nature campaign that sought to change the dictionary definition of Nature at the Oxford English Dictionary to include humans as part of Nature. Brontie was one of the key legal architects behind the Nature on the Board project at Faith in Nature and she was the first human to act as the Nature Guardian speaking on behalf of Nature at the company Faith in Nature, giving Nature a voice and a vote on a corporate board for the first time in history. She then went on to design the legal apparatus to appoint Nature and the voice of future generations to the board of House of Hackney, a company that credits Nature as their most important muse. Most recently she was advising the Comisiwn Seilwaith Cenedlaethol Cymru/National Infrastructure Commission for Wales on their Nature Representation pilot. She features heavily in both Simeon Rose's new book Nature's Boardroom and Frieda Gormley's book In the Company of Nature. She has been a lecturer in law for 15 years, most recently at the University of Essex where she was an associate professor at Essex Law School. Brontie has taught courses on Rights of Nature, climate justice, employment law and land law. Her work is informed by the global rights of nature movement and she is grateful to all who came before her to create the bedrock for work she does. Brontie talks to me about what a society could look like if we really reformed the meaning of ‘justice for all', and started to understand Nature and aspects of Nature as a subject of law.Because of the times we're in, I felt I could not ignore the shocking events that occurred in America this past week week and so we started with a quote from Elliott Morris and Strength in Numbers, which I was confusing with another organisation - Strength in Numbers is, in fact, a Substack blog -  well worth reading. I've put a link in the show notes, along with a few others that I think are worth adding to your must-read list every morning.  Last week - with his permission - I read a bit from one of these, by Oliver Kornetzke as part of the intro (hi Ollie if you're still listening!). I'm not going to make a habit of this every week, but I want to read something from Jackie Summers blog, Field Notes for Cracking An Empire, where she says, “If you've been reading my work for the last few years, none of this should be surprising. The old narratives are gone. This is what fascism looks like in real time. First, ICE agents killed Renee Nicole Good, a white woman. Now they've murdered Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old US citizen. A nurse with no criminal record. White women's bodies were supposed to be sacrosanct. Respectable professionals were supposed to be “off-limits.” That's no longer the case. For Black people, this country has always been fascist. What's new is who else is inside the blast radius. The Venn diagram of “safe” and “endangered” is now a circle. If you're shaken, it's not just grief. It's narrative whiplash. The distance between “this can't happen” and “it just did, on camera” no longer exists. You have choices. You can either cling to the lie and let someone else keep paying. Or pay the cost of updating the story about this country. About who is “safe,” about what you're willing to do now that protections are gone. I've said it before, the empire can handle outrage. It has no defense against empathy at scale. Outrage spikes, trends, and fades. Empathy—“it can be me; it already is them”—changes what people are willing to risk and protect. This is recruitment by atrocity. Your blood spilled red in the streets, just like ours. It shouldn't take this. It always has."There follows one of the most cogent, clear, useful, grounded lists of how we can all join what has been called well-organised Anarchists. And if that's what we are, I'm not sure that's bad.  At the end, Jackie writes - If you're going out, your first job is coming home. If you're staying home, your first job is staying human.  I'm writing this from the privilege and safety of a rural home in the UK.  Wherever you are in the world, please look after each other. And for ideas on how we can transcend this moment, to start reimagining a world which sees us as humans who reconnect with each other and with Nature, and give Nature the rights it deserves to thrive, please listen on to Brontie Ansell and her beautiful models of Quiet Romance, Care, Guardianship and justice for all life. Linkshttps://www.lawyersfornature.com/https://immersives.pioneerspost.com/lawyers-leading-nature/index.htmlhttps://greenallianceblog.org.uk/2022/09/22/giving-nature-a-seat-on-the-board-is-a-powerful-way-to-make-sure-businesses-protect-our-environment/https://nationalinfrastructurecommission.wales/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/NICW_NOTB_LFN-Final-Report.pdfhttps://www.houseofhackney.com/pages/nature-our-directorhttps://www.natureontheboard.com/https://bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/professional-business/natures-boardroomhttps://www.waterstones.com/book/in-the-company-of-nature/frieda-gormley/9781645023500https://www.ukrightsofnature.org/https://wearenature.org/

Riley Rogers: Hi, and welcome to the Win/Win Podcast. I’m your host, Riley Rogers. Join us as we dive into changing trends in the workplace and how to navigate them successfully. According to the State of Sales Enablement 2025 Report, 20% of organizations see the sales process as a key strategic priority. So how can you optimize your sales process and drive higher win rates for your team? Here to discuss this topic is Aaliyah Patel, senior specialist, customer marketing at Ansell. Thank you so much for joining us. Aaliyah. I’d love if you could start by telling us a little bit about yourself, your background, and your role. Aaliyah Patel: Absolutely. Well, thank you for having me. My name is Aaliyah Patel. I’m a senior customer marketing specialist here at Ansell, where I’m a part of the customer marketing team. My role really centers on leading our sales enablement in digital MarTech operations, so ensuring that our systems, processes, and data flows that support our go-to market motion are aligned, connected, and easy for our teams to use. A large part of that includes overseeing the digital tools like Highspot in our tech stack, supporting content governance and building scalable frameworks that help reps access the right insights, messaging, and assets across the buyer journey. The goal is to ultimately empower sellers and partners with the clarity tools and visibility they need to drive growth and deliver consistent customer experiences. RR: Just from what you mentioned there, it sounds like we have quite a lot of ground cover in terms of your experience, your background, and then the work that you do with Highspot. Before we kind of jump too far into the deep end there, I always kinda like to start by getting a sense of the environment that you’re working in. So I know that Ansell manufactures and distributes a really wide range of products. What are some of the unique challenges that go-to-market teams face when selling in this environment? AP: Absolutely. So, Ansell serves an extremely diverse markets, so anything from industrial safety to scientific to healthcare. And each customer group has different expectations, buying cycles and safety requirements. Reps often need to shift between very different conversations throughout the day. And the challenge isn’t necessarily complexity, it’s clarity. Reps need to quickly position the right solution, especially when our portfolio is broad and customers span multiple industries with unique needs. There’s also the constant need to stay current on new product developments and differentiators across categories; our priority has been making sure that our teams have a unified way to access information, understand messaging, and communicate competently no matter what business they’re supporting. RR: I love the shift that you mentioned there: it’s not necessarily complex, instead the challenge is making things clear and easy to navigate because yes, there’s a lot going on. You can’t change that, but you can pull certain levers to make it a little bit easier for your teams. Knowing that’s kind of where you’re at, I’d like to turn towards some of the actions that you and the team are taking. So, what are some of the key go-to-market initiatives that you’re focused on? And then how are you enabling reps to find clarity in Ansell’s sales environment. AP: A major focus for us has been simplifying how our teams access and leverage content to drive more consistent, confident customer conversations. We’ve strengthened our content governance, we’ve centralized materials, and we’ve made it much easier to connect the right message to the right audience. We’re also aligning more closely with sales to ensure that our go-to market initiatives are really grounded in real customer challenges. Whether through targeted campaigns, sharper product positioning, or ongoing training and enablement, everything that we do is centered on helping our teams articulate our value across the diverse markets and products that we sell in. We’re seeing the impact of that work in real time: We’ve had over a hundred thousand content views with almost a 90% reoccurring usage rate, which tells us that the structure we’ve put into place is resonating and helping our teams move faster and stay aligned. RR: I love that you came in with the data to back it up—actually, not just the data to back it up but great data to back it up. That’s super impressive, especially knowing that you guys are a little bit early in your journey, that you’re already finding that significant success. One of the things that we’ve heard is that a key focus is the sales process. So in your experience, what are some of the essential building blocks for creating a sales process that’s driving these business results that you’re seeing? AP: For us, the foundation comes down to three things, so it’s simplicity, alignment, and insights. When you bring clarity, consistency, and real data together, you create a process that’s scalable, repeatable, and tied to business outcomes, and it allows teams to adapt their approach, depending on the customer segment that they’re working with that day. RR: I think you touched on some really compelling aspects there, and I think I’d be curious to double click into a little bit more of what you said and about how you’re bringing some of those building blocks to life, especially with a platform like Highspot. So, can you talk about the role that an enablement platform plays in helping you streamline that sales process? AP: So the value is truly structure and connection. An enablement platform brings content, people, and insights together, and it gives everyone one place to operate from. It reduces the time the seller spends searching for materials; it makes sure that our messaging is aligned across our campaigns and launches, and it also creates visibility into what resonates in the field. So, it’s truly become the backbone of how we support consistent execution across the buyer journey. RR: I always love to hear that consistency is kind of what’s coming out of your usage of an enablement platform. I think that’s really the goal, right, to help standardize your messaging and bring consistency to your teams. I would love to dig a little bit deeper into that and kind of the benefit that you see of partnering with Highspot. How does this partnership help you drive some of those core initiatives? You touched on this a little bit already. AP: Partnering with Highspot has been incredibly valuable because it gives us a partner who truly understands the complexity of a modern go-to market environment that helps us operationalize our strategy in a really scalable way. For us, the benefit is twofold. First, Highspot provides the structure we need to centralize our content, our launches, our campaigns, and our customer facing materials, so our field teams can execute with confidence. It creates alignment across marketing and sales, which is essential when you’re supporting multiple markets and product categories. Second, the partnership helps us accelerate our core initiatives. Whether we’re rolling out new product messaging or enabling our teams on evolving customer needs or programs, Highspot gives us the platform, analytics, and support to execute and quickly measure the impact. We’re not just using the platform, but we’re truly maximizing it, and the collaboration has helped us build stronger governance, improve adoption, and really tie our go-to market strategy back to real behavior and engagement. It allows us to deliver a more consistent story, support our reps with clarity, and really create a unified experience across every touchpoint. RR: That certainly makes me, and I think all of our teams happy to hear. One of the things that’s really interesting about what you said is that earlier you gave us the data to kind of back it up and say that yes, we’re seeing these things anecdotally, but we’re also seeing them empirically. Thinking of that data, I know that it kind of speaks for itself when it comes to the work that you and the team are doing, but we’ve heard that Digital Rooms have been a key driver in your enablement strategy and in your strategy with Highspot. In just 90 days you’ve generated like 3,000 views with your Rooms. How have you and your teams been leveraging Digital Rooms? Can you talk to us about what impact you’ve been seeing so far? AP: Digital Rooms have become a core part of how we help our teams go to market. We use them to create curated experiences that package our messaging assets and resources into a structured, easy-to-navigate format that aligns with the story we want to deliver so reps can use them to deliver a clear and consistent narrative and everything they need is in one place. This helps our teams guide customers and partners through a cohesive experience. That visibility supports stronger account planning, more intentional communication, and better alignment with customer needs. The engagement has been strong. We’ve created over 500 Digital Rooms with an average of 30 minutes of viewing time per Room. Some have accumulated between 20–60 total hours of engagement, and several have been shared externally more than 40 times, which shows us that our customers and partners are engaging with the content in meaningful ways. RR: I love to hear how you’re using that Digital Room scorecard to keep a pulse on how they’re performing out in the wild. When you are supplying go-to-market teams with these Digital Rooms, is it the marketing team that’s building them? And if so, what kind of use cases are you building for? AP: It’s in partnership with both marketing and sales, so we can help them create them if they’d like, but then they also have full autonomy to go and create them themselves for their specific customers. Use cases can include any specific interactions, follow-ups, trade shows, anytime that they’re meeting, any one-to-one interactions that they’re having, and any time that we want to consolidate a bunch of product brand information all into one curated microsite. RR: Okay, fantastic. I’m always a little bit curious about who owns those things, how you’re kind of building templates, and what you’re building for. I’d like to maybe switch gears from the digital rooms arena, knowing that you have the fun but kind of challenging job of being Highspot's solution owner for Ansell. In that role, your major job is to drive adoption and effective usage of the platform. Just a few months after launch, you’ve already reached a really astounding 85% adoption rate in Highspot, which—when you think about the breadth of behavior change that needs to be done—is super impressive. What are some of the best practices, if you have any that you could share, that helped you drive that adoption right off the bat? AP: I love change management and it makes it super fun. Our approach has been focusing on education consistency and advocacy, so we spent a lot of time with each of the different teams, showing them how to use the platform and how it connects to their daily workflows. We essentially made it the single source of truth for our campaigns, launches, and content. So it became more of a habit and not an extra step. Our marketing team members and super users have also played a pivotal role in reinforcing usage, sharing wins, and hosting their own one-to-one training sessions with different groups. Today we have an 85% recurring usage rate and strongly weekly recurring engagement from all of the different teams across the organization. RR: Well, that’s fantastic to hear. I mean, clearly you guys are doing all of the right things, and I know you're—like you’ve kind of alluded to here—keeping a really close pulse on those outcomes with weekly check-ins and things like that. I also know that each quarter you’re putting together a presentation highlighting major wins and how things are going. Since implementing Highspot, what key results have you achieved and are there any particular wins or achievements you’re particularly proud of that you could share with us? AP: We’ve seen strong engagement and alignment across the organization. We have over a hundred thousand content views and over 3000 external shares. 47% of our viewed content has been tied to opportunities. So truly, the materials that we’re producing fit into the real conversations that are happening. Our top 10 assets have also shown strong engagement, with some assets exceeding a hundred shares or downloads, and our Digital Rooms remain a major win with consistent interactions and hundreds of curated experiences that support our ongoing conversations. These results reflect the impact of a structured, aligned enablement approach that supports the way that our teams already work. RR: As a fellow marketer, I think hearing some of those numbers and some of the things that you’re thinking about, I am feeling the impact of that, and I’m like: “Oh, you guys are definitely doing the right things. I’m so glad that you’re seeing the impact and the usage of the content. I know that’s always so exciting and always makes the work feel a little bit more meaningful. Bravo, and thank you so much for sharing that with us. They’re, I think, again, really inspiring results, especially as I said so early in the journey. To close us out, one last wrap up question for you: If you could summarize one crucial lesson, one key point from your experience with Highspot and using it to improve your sales process, what would it be? AP: So the biggest lesson is that clarity fuels confidence. When our teams know where to go, what to use, and how to apply it, everything improves. The conversations, execution, and outcomes all become streamlined. Enablement is truly about connecting people, content, and insights in a way that supports repeatable, scalable execution. When you build that structure and provide visibility, the results will follow. RR: I think that’s a perfect way to wrap us up. Build your foundation and everything kind of comes from that. I think that’s fantastic to close on, but before we do, I do want to say thank you again for joining us. I’m so glad we had the opportunity to learn from all of the impact you and the team are driving. AP: Thank you for having me. RR: To our audience, thank you for listening to this episode of the Win/Win Podcast. Be sure to tune in next time for more insights on how you can maximize enablement success with Highspot.

A guilty verdict for the Auckland woman charged with murdering her children and leaving their bodies in suitcases. Hakyung Lee killed her eight and six-year-old in 2018, after giving them anti-depressants in what she said was a failed suicide attempt. But claims she was insane following her husband's death failed to convince the jury. Newstalk ZB's Emily Ansell says the verdict's in line with evidence from forensic psychiatrist Dr Erik Monasterio. "Who found that there was no proof of any psychotic elements required for that defence, so therefore, he told the jury that he believed she didn't qualify - and that is an opinion they clearly took on board." There are numerous social and structural vectors for disease that are not often discussed in medical school. So, Dr. David Ansell says he had a lot to learn once he became a physician. Ansell, author of “The Death Gap: How Inequality Kills,” writes about the stark disparities in access to treatment and outcomes for patients in the U.S. healthcare system. “We always talk about inequities. We have frank inequities, but we have gross inequalities,” Ansell says. “The care isn't equal… And if we could get to equal, then we can take on the inequity.” One of the most glaring examples is life expectancy; a person's zip code can be a strong predictor for their life expectancy due to social and structural determinants of health, including structural racism and economic deprivation, he says.  “If you live in The Loop in Chicago, you can live to be 85 and if it were a country, it'd be ranked first in the world,” Ansell says. “But if you live in Garfield Park, three stops down the Blue Line from Rush, life expectancy post-Covid is 66.” In this conversation, which was first published in 2023 for the Health Disparities podcast, Dr. Ansell speaks with Movement Is Life's Dr. Carla Harwell about the importance of addressing systemic racism and inequality in the healthcare system. Starting a business is a big decision, and people do it for different reasons. Maybe you have a passion you really care about, or you just want more freedom in how you spend your time. For some, it's about doing something different from the usual 9-to-5 job and having control over their own path. But what does it really take to start a business—and is passion enough to keep you going?  In this episode, I have Clara Ansel, CEO and Founder of Business Powerhouse. Clara shares valuable insights into managing business growth sustainably without burning out. The conversation delves into the importance of having a clear destination or 'Point B,' the role of mindset in business success, and practical steps to avoid chaos and inefficiency. Clara also discusses the significance of decluttering one's mind and surroundings, actionable advice for aspiring entrepreneurs, and her personal journey from corporate consultancy to empowering small business owners. Tune in to learn more! --- Listen to the podcast here: Starting and Scaling up a Business with Claire Ansell Welcome to Action's Antidotes, your antidotes to the mindset that keeps you settling for less. Today, I want to talk to you all about starting and scaling up businesses. Now, perhaps you have your reasons for wanting to start a business and, usually, it's about passion that you have or just the desire to have a life where you have a little bit more autonomy over what you do and when you do it, something other than the corporate life, but maybe you're looking at these processes of starting a business and seeing how daunting the process is, how much it really goes on, especially if you do end up with an investor that expects you to scale or if you personally have the desire to scale because whatever mission you're serving, you're kind of wanting to bring to more or more people. My guest today is Claire Ansell, and she is the CEO and founder of Business Powerhouse and she has some good thoughts about how we could go about managing this whole process without kind of burning out, without kind of ending up doing too much in a more sustainable fashion. ---     Claire, welcome to the program.   Hey, Stephen. How are you?    I'm doing pretty well today. It's actually a nice 70 degrees here.    Nice. That's good. Summer is coming.    It always feels nice at this time of year. How are you today?    I'm pretty good. It's been an exciting day with doing lots of –– actually like in the same realm as what you're talking about. We launched a new kind of series in our hub called Awaken, which is all about mindset so it's pretty exciting to be jumping on here with you today and kind of continuing the conversation.    Yeah, and that's a good place to start. We can talk a little bit about mindset because I'm assuming you work with a lot of people who are either starting businesses or have a business and they're just starting to become overwhelmed as their web traffic, their client base, something kind of picks up.    Yeah, and I think it doesn't really matter what phase of business you're in, whether you're a startup or a ten-million-dollar business, the reality –– or a hundred-million-dollar business. I mean, I've seen it right up to 600 million. I mean, at some point, a business owner is overwhelmed in chaos and facing that burnout. It's just the reality of the way in which we structure and grow our businesses.   Now, given your role in your business, is there any way to prevent that burnout? Is there any way someone that's starting a business now can adopt either a mindset or a set of operational practical you want to start a business but you don't want to burn yourself out?  Yeah, 100 percent, and I think one of the biggest pieces the business owners really miss is they don't understand what their point B is. We talk about point A is where you are today and point B is where are you going in the future and that could be at ...

At the very end of last year, Bryan Ansell, a man who played a pivotal role in the world of tabletop games, passed away. To understand just how important Ansell was, this week on the Vintage RPG Podcast, we chat with Timothy Linward, Wargamer staff writer and author of the forthcoming Grimdark: A Very British Hell. Tim walks us through the early days of Citadel Miniatures, his rise to prominence at Games Workshop and his role in shaping the various flavors of Warhammer that emerged during his tenure from 1985 to 1991, culminating with Realm of Chaos. We also nearly spin off into a tangential discussion of the Horus Heresy, but luckily we pulled back from tumbling into that abyss. Get ready to be inspired! In this captivating episode, we dive into the incredible story of Mary Ansell, founder of Open Heart Yoga, and her journey from dealing with scoliosis to becoming a visionary who has reshaped her community's wellness landscape is nothing short of awe-inspiring. As a young girl, Mary was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 12 and had to wear a brace that was not only challenging but also brought out her remarkable blend of grit and grace. This experience, however, set the stage for her eventual love affair with yoga, which offered her physical relief and a profound sense of connection and presence. The heart of Mary's mission with Open Heart Yoga is to make yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of age, gender, or socioeconomic status. Her studio has grown from a fledgling nonprofit to a thriving community sanctuary, and the innovative "practice and give" model ensures that every class not only supports personal growth but also the well-being of others in the local community. This episode is not just a story about yoga; it's a testament to the power of human resilience, the beauty of community support, and the transformative potential of pursuing one's passion. Mary Ansell's journey from overcoming personal challenges to inspiring a community through Open Heart Yoga is a compelling narrative that resonates with anyone looking to make a meaningful impact in their world.

David Ansell's book “The Death Gap: How Inequality Kills” was first published in 2017. In a foreword for the book updated in 2020, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot wrote that “Three years before the COVID-19 crisis, Dr. David Ansell published The Death Gap, brilliantly synthesizing what he experienced in decades of practicing medicine in two utterly different medical worlds that were mere blocks apart. What makes this book so compelling is that rather than focusing exclusively on data and statistics, Dr. Ansell makes these gruesome numbers real. He tells the story of the disparities through the real-life experiences of patients with whom he had deep, committed relationships.”  In today's discussion Dr. Ansell reflects on the collision between the ongoing epidemic of social and structural determinants of health, and the pandemic of COVID-19. He also shares recommendations for ways that healthcare providers can bring together quality, safety and equity in medicine.  David A. Ansell, MD, MPH, is Senior Vice President for Community Health Equity for Rush University Medical Center and Associate Provost for Community Affairs for Rush University System for Health, Chicago.  Dr. Carla Harwell is Medical Director, University Hospitals Otis Moss Jr. Health Center; Associate Professor of Medicine, CWRU School of Medicine, Division of Internal Medicine; and Vice Chair for the Board of Directors at Movement is Life.  (c) Movement is Life 2023
