The arrival of legal cannabis and especially high-potency edibles has brought acute cannabis intoxication along with it. According to guest Simon Allen, CEO of Anebulo a staggering 5000 intoxicated patients per day arrive in the emergency room. There's not a lot doctors can do beyond sedation. Anebulo hopes to change that with a product under development to quickly reverse the unwanted high.Support the showHost David E. Williams is president of healthcare strategy consulting firm Health Business Group. Produced by Dafna Williams.
Simon Allen is the CEO and Director of Anebulo Pharmaceuticals, which focuses on finding an effective treatment for acute cannabinoid intoxication or ACI, particularly in an emergency department setting. ACI is a condition where an individual has consumed or smoked too much cannabis or products that contain THC or synthetic cannabis and is experiencing symptoms of psychosis, anxiety, elevated heart rate, or is unresponsive. Their drug ANEB-001 is designed to address the cause of the symptoms without the need for traditional methods like benzodiazepines and beta blockers, which have their risks. Simon explains, "What we are seeing is individuals taking these high-potency edibles, for example, and also smoking and vaping. These are other forms that can create ACI outcomes. And essentially, they're out for several hours, if not overnight, in the hospital. This can get as serious as the escalation to a psychiatric ward if the individual is so psychotic, agitated, and anxious that the emergency department can't handle it or chooses not to handle it and pushes it to the psychiatric ward. And those expenses are in the tens of thousands of dollars to the healthcare system. Not only that, there are extremely poor patient outcomes." "What's important is that these molecules, the synthetic ones, are, unfortunately extremely strong binders to the CB1 receptor and do more to stimulate effectively. And very, very small doses of these synthetic cannabinoids can create very poor patient outcomes simply because they're much tighter binders to the CB1 receptor compared to THC. And when they do bind to that receptor, they're much more active. And so the street names like K2 and Spice are examples." @AnebuloP #AnebuloPharmaceuticals #ACI #AcuteCannabinoidIntoxication #Cannabis #Overdose Anebulo.com Listen to the podcast here

Combining a modern tale of terror with a 1980s video game, first-time director Toby Meakins and writer Simon Allen decided to tackle a horror film that feels like it's one part ‘Jumanji' and another part ‘Black Mirror.' The premise centers around a down-on-her-luck computer programming enthusiast named Kayla, who cleans buildings at night to help support her family, as they continue to grieve the loss of her little brother. When she's not working, Kayla is hanging out with Isaac — another computer programmer with a crush on her and hopes to one day make it big creating his own video game. In his spare time, Isaac likes to play with old computers and long forgotten software like the game he finds that promises the winner a massive cash prize. After teasing Kayla that many of this prizes were never claimed, she decides to give this game a spin for herself. Kayla soon discovers that this game is really a curse and it's nothing she can escape with just the stroke of a button….In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to boot up our Commodore 64 and slip in the floppy disk as we review the 2022 Netflix horror film “Choose or Die”…

Summary: John and Rachael hit the night scene lottery! After 15 years of waiting, the 90-year-old Roxian Theater became new again and opened its doors to the New Mastersounds, a very excited crowd, and two anxious jagoffs. The duo welcomed legendary McKees Rocks native Pete Hewlett, Taris Vrcek, Community Development Corporation Executive Director, as well as New Mastersounds singer Lamar Williams Jr., and band originator Simon Allen. Music: The New Mastersounds with Lamar Williams, Jr., “Can't Hold Me Down” and “Trouble” We are already in week two with our newest sponsor Rohrich Honda in Bloomfield. Pittsburgh has known the Rohrich name since 1938. That's the year when the Rohrich family automotive business started with that personal commitment to treat every customer like a friend coming to visit our own home. We invite you to visit the Bloomfield location for a personal relationship and potential new vehicle. Visit www.rohrich.com and experience the difference 01:15 John and Rachael stopped lapping the streets of McKees Rocks waiting for signs of music life once they learned of the opening of the Roxian Theater in McKees Rocks. After a $9M renovation, it is now a world-class 1400-capactiy music venue. 04:21 McKees Rocks CDC Executive Director Taris Vrcek broke away from the hundreds of spectators from McKees Rocks and beyond to talk about the years of dedication it took to rebuild the theater. From vision to fruition, he reminisces the multiple start stops prior to becoming the Roxian. While music will be top of mind, the sky is the limit for entertainment at the new nightclub. 10:08 Pete Hewlett is Rachael's favorite guest of all time, and he casually walks into what used to be a venue where he performed and discusses the musician's code of conduct. Basically, that means that the newbies figure out the importance of music longevity, and the veterans learn to accept some new sounds. Then Pete heads to the Green Room with the jagoffs to chat music even more. 18:23 We hang in the green room with Pete and The New Mastersounds' Simon Allen and Lamar Williams, Jr. who swap accents, stories and favorite breakfasts. These gents talk about legends they have performed with like Billy Joel, The Allman Brothers and more. The generations blended beautifully over music and where better than the city of Pittsburgh! Rob and Seth return to Terminal West to pick Eddie Roberts’ brain about all things New Mastersounds. However, the conversation kicks off with Eddie explaining how his new band Matador came together, and how he and the other musicians (Alan Evans, Kevin Scott, Chris Spies, Adryon de Leon and Kimberly Dawson) came together and that they plan on making this a permanent band, as opposed to a mere, "project." They also talk about how the most recent New Mastersounds cd Renewable Energy is appropriately-titled, and how it represented a number of firsts for the band. We learn about how some of the songs were inspired and titled, particularly “Chicago Girl” - and how the Chicago Girl suggested a cover with which none of the band members were familiar, yet which still made the record. Eddie also explains how de Leon’s creative input on this record is different from how he expects it will continue to be in Matador, and about why tNM is starting to become more interested in recording records “live” in the studio. We learn how the band’s songwriting has evolved from Eddie being the clear principal source to its current predominantly collaborative nature. Eddie talks about how his picking style comes from his jazz and classical background, and why his playing style is closer to that of a bluegrass player than a rock player. He also relates about how John Scofield almost lost a gig to a storm that happened while Eddie was dining with him, and shares some Sco insight. This leads to a discussion about Miles Davis which in turn leads to Eddie comparing and contrasting one way his approach differs from that of the virtuosic organist, Robert Walter. He also relates some of his experiences with Corrine Bailey Rae as Eddie has known her since she was a bartender and watched her have repeated success starting with her being only the fourth British act in history to have her debut cd debut at Number 1 on the Billboard charts. Eddie also explains some of the ways tNM's early days playing in London impacted the type of players they are today (for more on this, check out Episode 15 with tNM drummer Simon Allen). We also find out what motivated Eddie to start his successful charitable organization, The Payback and about how Eddie felt about getting to work with heroes of his like Ernest Ranglin and The Meters. wTnS is Produced by Rob Turner and Engineered by Josh Thane of Wonder Dog Sounds Studio. www.joshthaneproductions.com www.wonderdogsounds.com All social media management, promotion and website maintenance/building done by Harris Sullivan. wTnS is a proud partner of the Osiris Podcast Network. Ultimately the trio discusses how TNMs broke the US market, how their approach had to change when they did so, learning and loving improvisation, tambourines, the balance between embellishing and leaving space, how the band members’ roles have changed on and off stage, how the band almost collapsed under financial pressures, slippery water, New Orleans JazzFest, Being influenced by - and then getting to play with The Meters and the contrast between the prevalence on on-stage collaborations in the US and the dearth of then in the UK. Many investors are attracted by the high gross returns offered by HMOs. There is also a common belief that after creating an HMO, a lender will value it based on the income it generates - giving it a higher value, and allowing the investor to pull their money back out. Is this true? Well…it's complicated. That's why I invited Simon Allen from Total Business Finance onto the show, to dispel the myths about HMO mortgages and get to the truth about valuing HMOs.
