We welcome writer/ comic creator Jack Wallace this week to first help us remember some of our favorite characters from comics in our Retro Roundtable. We look at Mysterio, Jason Todd, Spider Jerusalem, and more. Let us know your picks in the comments. Then we turn our attention to Jack to talk about the many different projects he's involved with. First, we discuss Disposable Fiction Comics. Disposable Fiction Comics is a small press publisher consisting of one writer, Jack Wallace, and one colorist and letterer, Chris Allen. Jack and Chris have collaborated with thoughtful and creative artists who are rich with talent. This collection of short fiction is perfect to read on the subway or the bus. Though you may throw the comic away at the end of your trip, these stories will crawl around near the back of your mind. Jack is also a co-founder, and the editor-in-Chief of the indie comics newspaper, The Columbus Scribbler. The goal of the Columbus Scribbler is to introduce and educate the people of Columbus to the vibrant comics scene surrounding them and to help foster a love and deeper appreciation for the comics medium as a whole. Neste episódio temos novamente a presença no nosso amigo Thi Chareti. This week on Loaned Out, Mike and Brendan discuss Transmetropolitan Vol. 1 by Warren Ellis. After years of self-imposed exile from a civilization rife with degradation and indecency, cynical journalist Spider Jerusalem is forced to return to a job that he hates and a city that he loathes. Working as an investigative reporter for the newspaper The Word, Spider attacks the injustices of his surreal 23rd-century surroundings. Combining black humor, life-threatening situations, and moral ambiguity, this book is the first look into the mind of an outlaw journalist and the world he seeks to destroy.Join us next week when we discuss Malignant (2021).Welcome to the Loaned Out Podcast, the continuing story of two friends making it through all the pop culture homework we've given to each other. In superhero stories, the public is usually there to be saved by the heroes or killed by the villains. But as a journalist, I always wonder if these people are well informed enough about the threats to their lives, and who is protecting them. I talk with Maya Phillips of The New York Times, James Queally of The Los Angeles Times, and freelance reporter Sean Kelly about a range of fictional journalists from Lois Lane to Peter Parker, and whether their portrayals affect the way we view the news media in the real world. Plus, Petra Mayer of NPR, and journalist Liz Publika discuss why Spider Jerusalem is a model comic book reporter, even if he's completely gonzo. And actress Mallory Kasdan reads the fanfiction story, “Can I Quote You on This” by Wix from Archive of Our Own about what happens when a more realistic journalist interviews The Avengers. Today's episode includes minor spoilers for Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Daredevil, Superman and Lois, The Flash, and the graphic novel Watchmen. Learn more about your ad choices. After some news about a new Vertigo television adaptation and thumbing through some cards based on DC's most forgotten crossover, we dive into the prophetic world of Transmetropolitan. Written by Warren Ellis with art by Darick Robertson, this cyberpunk series brought the world social commentary, interesting sci-fi concepts and one of the greatest comic book characters: Spider Jerusalem.
The Boys discuss the cyberpunk classic 'TRANSMETROPOLITAN', written by Warren Ellis with art by Darick Robertson. Published by DC Comics in 1997, the first volume of the series introduces us to Spider Jerusalem, retired writer/journalist and bearded hermit, who dedicates himself to fighting the corruption and abuse of power of two successive United States presidents. You may notice that there is a jarring cut around the 7 minute mark. That is due to our recording bot freaking out. In the words of our wise member Tiorino, “Fuck Craig.” This week the boys welcome new blood with Mike. So this FNG, Phil, Cody, Tio-Bob, and EmTee kick around rocking the vote, voting for tots, eating cereal wrong, a crazy uber, home repair boys, Spider Jerusalem, condiment contraband, and wrestings sushi.
On this weeks Episode we discuss Transmetropolitan: Back On the Street. Working as an investigative reporter for the newspaper The Word, Spider Jerusalem ventures into the dangerous Angels 8 district, home of the Transient; humans who have decided to become aliens through cosmetic surgery.

Warning: some weird audio issues in this one. Gonzo journalist Spider Jerusalem traps President Rivers Cuomo in one of his patented hard-hitting interviews ala Frost/Nixon. It's ...Spider/Weezer. Pokemon Sleep; Pokemon Dreams. Millenials are made of snakes, snails, puppy dog tails, and also clefairy star-dust. The Ins and outs of the Bat-Family. Debate club: what's YOUR Snape-take? Whole lotta Snape thoughts in this one. No lie, this one is... mostly Snape thoughts.

Images at MultiversityComics.com or here: http://wp.me/p42KN3-EsC (starting 7/11/17) On this week's Comics Syllabus podcast, Paul and this episode's co-host Johnny Hall discuss "Transmetropolitan" by Warren Ellis (w), Darick Robertson (p), Rodney Ramos (i), Nathan Eyring (c), looking closely at the start of volume 3, "The Year of the Bastard" (DC/Vertigo; originally DC/Helix), originally published starting Sept, 1998. On the 20th anniversary of Transmetropolitan's debut, they dig deep into the social and political commentary of this landmark series, how Spider Jerusalem calls forth Hunter S. Thompson for contemporary times, and the prescience of Ellis and Robertson's dark comic vision of the future (or present?). But first, in the opening "General Ed" segment, Johnny and Paul talk about their lists of some "Best Comics of 2017 So Far," a non-comprehensive but wide-ranging list of some of the comics they've most appreciated in the year. They also review similar lists from AV Club, Paste Magazine, and Vulture. I'm Paul, and I'm inviting you to join us for another episode of The Comics Syllabus, a comics analysis podcast. Our mantra is, we read widely and we dig deep. Each week, I choose one work from a wide breadth of current and classic comics, including superhero fare, comics from independent publishers and small presses, global comics, newspaper strip archives, and various collected editions. We spend time digging deep into the work from various perspectives, sometimes in actual live conversation with others, sometimes with just me on a mic surrounded by a pile of comics studies and academic books. It's like a comics seminar, where the only prerequisite is that you love comics. NEXT WEEK on the Comics Syllabus: Paul is joined by comics scholar Dr Rachelle Cruz to talk about "Uncomfortably Happily" by Yeon-Sik Hong and translated by Hellen Jo (Drawn + Quarterly). Subscribe to the podcast or keep it locked here at Multiversity for that conversation. You can find the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, or Soundcloud, or copy this RSS feed to your podcatcher: http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:235183739/sounds.rss or find archives for this podcast (previously named "Study Comics with Paul") here: http://studycomics.club/ A rating, review, or star on whatever podcast source would help a lot and would be greatly appreciated! [School of Everything Else 2017] This is a Vertigo comics series which ran for 60 issues from 1997 to 2002, written by Warren Ellis and drawn by Darick Robertson. It is set in a non-specified future where cities stretch out across the planet, filled with bored tech-fetishists all looking for the next distraction. Spider Jerusalem is an infamous gonzo journalist who returns to the otherwise unnamed "The City" to write some books and newspaper columns after years of hiding in a log cabin up a mountain. This is a book that was hugely influential on me, and while the retro-future it predicted was off the mark in many cases, some of it is so sharp that it's going to hurt to listen. There's blasphemous and depraved content within so you have been warned. Alasdair Stuart of The Escape Artists joins us to talk about all things Spider in this commissioned show courtesy of Ciaran Dachtler. Guest: Alasdair Stuart of Escape Pod
RFK discusses the best and worst journalists that comics have to offer. Sidney Drmay guest hosts. Featuring Lois Lane, Peter Parker and Spider Jerusalem. Originally broadcast on CJRU 1280 AM in Toronto.

Henry, Chris, and Dave welcome Danielle back onto the show to discuss the slow-moving machinery of Secret Wars, suggesting too many comics starring Batman, watching old cartoons, and the wisdom of Spider Jerusalem. Plus, your answers to last week’s community... Read more
This week writer and convention organizer Jame Maddox joins bruce to discuss the most outrageous journalist in comics, Spider Jerusalem. Spider was heavily inspired by Hunter S. Thompson, and never hesitated to be a part of his own story. Fearlessly dedicated to bring the people the "absolute truth" his columns were part of his own mission to bring down malevolent powers that abused the citizenry for their own amusement. The central character of Transmetropolitan. Check out awesome H&V shirts by clicking this link! It's NARUTO DAY! Due to high Twitter demand, Whitney explains the plot of all 594 episodes of NARUTO to Mark, who believes he's learning even more about Harry Potter. This leads to a Unified Fictional Universe, Megafauna Gargamel and the proper usage of "Spider Jerusalem" (derogatory nickname). A THING WHITNEY HASN'T SEEN: All That. A THING MARK HASN'T SEEN: The Anita Blake Books.
In this futuristic series of 10 volumes set in “The City,” Spider Jerusalem, rogue journalist and truth seeker is out to get the politicians, and to expose them for who they are. In the decadent world they live in, Spider and his “filthy assistants” will stop at nothing, sex, drugs or videos to dig up the truth and expose the lies. Very cyber punk, graphic in both senses of the word, this series is not for everyone. You like a foul-mouthed character with a habit of beating up his opponents to get the truth out of them, Transmetropolitan is for you! If you have more of a sensitive stomach, you might want to skip a few pages. All in all an interesting take on the world toward which we are heading. A world of endless stimuli, endless commercials, extremely corrupt and evil politicians, self-indulgence in the form of medical conveniences, and drugs drugs drugs!!
