In this episode, for this winter's extremely-belated Christmas episode, the randomizer goes all the way back to 2004 to pick a straight-to-DVD anthology feature in which everyone's favorite classic Disney animated characters were given some of the most horrendously hideous CGI makeovers you ever done seen, just so they could star in a bunch of even-cheaper holiday stories about everything Christmas is all about: sick ice skating moves, espionage, chronic embarrassment, blacklight-induced violent rage, and of course the act of naming a dog Murray. Needless to say, they couldn't get Kelsey Grammer to narrate this one. Join Tony Goldmark, Dave Cobb, Tyler Green and Cassie Shima as they regift MICKEY'S TWICE UPON A CHRISTMAS! Welcome to our second Design Better episode on the creative process. You may not know Ed Catmull's name, but there's almost no doubt you're familiar with his work. As the co-founder of Pixar, he's responsible for helping to create movies ranging from the original Toy Story on through The Incredibles, Wall-E, Moana, and Inside Out. Ed has a background in computer science, and as someone who pioneered many of the computer graphics and digital animation techniques that we now take for granted, he has a unique perspective on the intersection of technology and creativity. We chat with Ed about his transition from creating things himself, to leading creative teams; the elements of a sustainable creative culture, and how to give people feedback so they'll actually listen to you. Ed also collaborated with Steve Jobs longer than probably anyone else who knew him—for over 30 years—and we hear some stories that haven't been told anywhere else. One more quick thing before we go: we have some amazing guests lined up for our upcoming AMAs, like Judy Wert Debbie Millman, which are filling up quickly. Go to our events page and you can register for free. David H. Steinberg grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut, entered Yale at age 16, and earned his law degree from Duke University, where he served as editor-in-chief of the law review. After four years of entertainment law in Atlanta and New York, he abandoned his legal career to attend USC's Peter Stark Producing Program. Before graduating, Steinberg sold his first spec script called Slackers, which was made into the 2002 film. After the sell, Steinberg was immediately hired by Universal to write the first two drafts of American Pie 2. Filmography Steinberg also wrote After School Special, a story about three high school friends who attempt to make a porn movie. The movie was eventually released under the title National Lampoon's Barely Legal. In addition, Steinberg wrote the seventh film in the American Pie series, American Pie Presents: The Book of Love, released in 2009. Steinberg wrote and directed the short film The Babysitter, starring Academy Award winner Brie Larson, which went viral with over four million views on the now-defunct Atom Films before achieving immortal status on Funny or Die. His feature film directorial debut Miss Dial stars Robinne Lee and Sam Jaeger and premiered at the Macon Film Festival on February 16, 2013, where it received the Audience Choice Award. It was released on DVD and VOD by Phase 4 Films in 2013. He wrote DisneyToon Studios' Tinker Bell and the Pixie Hollow Games, which premiered on the Disney Channel and the DreamWorks animated feature film Puss In Boots. He also wrote the live-action body-switching movie Furry Friday for New Line Cinemas and created and executive produced a TV pilot for ABC Family called Phys. In this episode of In Search of the Crystal Skull, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 2007 direct to video animated Disney movie Cinderella III: A Twist in Time. One year had passed since Cinderella and the Prince had gotten married and Lady Tremaine and her daughters Anastasia and Driscilla are miserable with their current lives. One day, Anastasia had found The Fairy Godmother's magic wand laying around and Lady Tremaine decided to turn back in time one year prior where Anastasia was able to wear the glass slipper and Cinderella has to make the prince fall in love with her all over again. Will Cinderella get her life back together? When the movie came out, fans had praised it as the best direct to video animated Disney film, especially coming out during the last years of DisneyToon Studios' releasing sequels, prequels, and midquels of classic Disney movies before the Planes and Tinker Bell movies and its eventual shutdown. It currently has a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Do Patricia and Arun agree? Is it better than The Lion King 1 1/2? Listen and find out. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/old-school-lane/support

This week, we're thinking Tink! You may have thought you knew all there was to know about Tinker Bell, but Mousetalgia dives in and considers the flight of everyone's favorite fairy by looking at some interesting angles. First, we talk to aerialist Gina Rock, who flew across the sky in Disneyland as the fireworks lit up the night. Gina talks about her background as a gymnast, and the experience of portraying the famous pixie in her nightly ritual in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. We also talk to Klay Hall, the director of Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, on helping Disney relaunch Neverland for a new generation. Hall talks about developing Tink as a story editor for the 2008 Tinker Bell feature film, developing Pixie Hollow for Disneyland Park, and helping to guide the franchise as DisneyToon Studios launched the Disney Fairies, reimagining Tinker Bell for today's audiences while keeping her roots as one of Disney's most enduring and beloved characters. Plus - Kristen Carr checks in with a Mousetalgia FastPass... and more.

On this week’s episode of the best Disneyland and Star Wars podcast out there, Scott and Aaron follow up their discussions with Disney Legends the only way they know how: by reviewing 2007’s “Cinderella III: A Twist In Time,” the straight-to-video sequel of the 1950 classic in a new “Back of the Vault” segment. The guys discuss a brief history of the animation house that brought us these “classic” sequels, DisneyToon Studios and how “Cindy 3” stacks up. All this, plus rumors and speculation surrounding Disneyland’s reopening, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disneyland, an Avengers Campus update in Disney’s California Adventure, details about upcoming “Bobsleds & Banthas” shows, and the guys pay their tribute to the passing of Black Panther actor, Chadwick Boseman. It’s a show that’s more chock-full of fun and banter than any show has a right to be – and one you won’t want to miss!

In this episode of Casual Chats, Patricia and Chris "RowdyC" Moore discuss about DisneyToon Studios which were known for animating and producing the direct to video animated Disney movies. General consensus states that most of the movies from this now defunct studio are awful, cheap, lazy, and uninspired cash grabs taking advantage of people's nostalgia on the original movies it spawned from. Are there diamonds in the rough? Yes, but which ones? Listen and find out.
Upset that last week's episode ended before Wes and Perry could talk about Lion King 1 1/2? Hakuna Matata, because the boys are back and this week they are breaking down the second half of the DisneyToon Studios film catalog. There are still a few more hidden gems to discover, and plenty more dumpster fires to expose. Wes and Perry also breakdown the third BMC feature, Saving Private Ryan! DisneyToon Studios is known as being the studio behind the majority of Disney's animated sequels over the years. From 1990-2014 they produced 47 movies that...well....exist. Joining Wes and Perry to break down the first half of the DisneyToon catalog is Alex Stewart from The Backside of Water Podcast. Most of these films are terrible, some are palatable, and one is A Goofy Movie.----more---- Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BanterPodcast/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/banter_pod/
In honor of the Super Bowl this past weekend, Wes and Perry are calling an audible. Part 1 of our journey through DisneyToon Studios will have to wait until next week because this week is all about answering the most burning questions of Google Autofill! In addition to hilarious back and forth banter about a wide range of topics, the guys also give their Oscar predictions and review the second Banter Movie Club feature, The Fault in Our Stars! Well met, traveller! Hast thou come seeking adventure? Adventure being centered mostly around a series of Pixar and Disneytoon Studios movies? Well, do I have.... alright news for you, I guess. We don't actually, uh.... do any adventuring this episode? We just figure out the mechanics of a Cars based RPG system? That's right everyone, in what critics are calling "Their most niche episode yet, and that's really saying something." and "Like, it's still funny and stuff, but I can't stress this enough, they just make D&D but for Cars this episode?" it's Episode 34: Dungeons & Dragsters!
Join Magic and Tribz as they soar sky high with their review of the 2013 Disneytoon Studios film "Planes."In news, they discuss the Disney Skyliner incident, Little Mermaid Live, theft of property, and DisneyWorld.
Danhattan returns to the show to discuss the "circle of life" that has surrounded the Lion King franchise. How did the original 1994 film become one of the most successful animated films of all time? How does Average Joe bring Japanese anime into this conversation? Can the new 2019 film be considered a live-action film? So many questions, and hopefully some answers! To avoid SPOILERS for the new "Lion King" (it's pretty much the same move but there are some changes), skip over 1:06:55-1:21:52 of the episode. This episode I take a look back at an often-forgotten Disney Animated movie, that does deserve a second look. A Goofy Movie released by Disneytoon Studios. Hey, folks! It's that time once more, time for another new episode of Mousterpiece Cinema! And this episodes marks yet another special occasion, as it's time for Scott and Josh to delve into another of the direct-to-DVD sequels made by DisneyToon Studios. They're heading back to the valley to get into the groove, or trying to get into the groove, with Kronk's New Groove. (Sorry, all you hopeful fans of Bambi II. We know we had it scheduled, but you'll just have to wait.) Longtime listeners will remember that Scott's a big fan of The Emperor's New Groove, while Josh was a bit cooler on the 2000 original. But what did they think of the 2005 sequel? Is it as funny as the original? Is it better for Kronk to be a sidekick? Does anyone care about his daddy issues? You'll have to listen to find out!

This week we learned the Fox deal could give Disney access to a new audience of more than 700 million people and that's just the start of it. From A Goofy Movie to Fairies, DisneyToon Studios has heavily impacted the Disney company from the shadows. But now it seems that run has come to an end. A director in line for a Star Wars flick tweets that the fans make him a little less interested. At the end, we take a little time to talk about why Disney might have allowed curse words in Incredibles 2. It's part of a larger trend of the 'adulting' of Disney.
Welcome to GEEKS CORNER! This week the geeks have quite a lot to cover. Things start off with a discussion about Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Train. This attraction will be coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2019. New concept art has been released and the geeks analyze. Star Wars: The Last Jedi has come to Netflix. The geeks discuss how this movie has aged over the course of the last seven months. DAPS MAGIC has released an initiative called DAPS MAGIC MAKERS. The goal of this is to create more content that is better and more dynamic. Next, the Disney Parks Play app is reviewed after it was played with at Disneyland this last weekend. Disney is closing DisneyToon Studios. Over at the Walt Disney World Resort, Toy Story Land is now open. What do you think of it? Finally, Team DAPS MAGIC is preparing to walk in the 2018 CHOC Walk in the Park at Disneyland. Please support the team or join it for this very special day. Joe takes a look at Walt Disney Pictures' & DisneyToon Studios 2006 American animated drama film, "Bambi II (also known as Bambi and the Great Price of the Forest)".
This Week Cars 3 gets a full trailer and it looks like a return to form for the Franchise. Disney releases its entire slate of films through 2021 and refuses to name some movies that really should have names. Plus we talk Born in China and how Beauty and the Beast beat Star Wars…That and much much, more. For the Week of May 1, this is Episode 129 of The Disney Movie Review Sorry for the long intro this week, but I wanted to let you know that I will be accepting advertisers for the show. (If you listen to the show and want to promote your business, you'll be able to buy time for a discount!). That being said, I can promise you three things. 1.) I will always let you know when I am promoting an ad. 2.) I will do my best to use the money to improve the show. 3.) I will do my best to not waste your time. CARS 3 Trailer Pixar released the first full trailer for Cars 3 this week. Take a look at the trailer here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LeOH9AGJQM). This appears to be a return to form for the franchise. It is apparent that it is following the “redemption story” format a little closer than the second one did. Owen Wilson is returning as Lightning McQueen and we get our first real look at Cristela Alonzo as Cruz Ramirez. This trailer also confirms that Larry the Cable Guy will be back to voice Tow Mater. Ed brought up a good point that it is rather late in the season for us to get our first real trailer for Cars 3, since the release is slated for June 16. That said, I personally don't have a huge need to see more of this film. I just hope it is better than Cars 2. Walt Disney Studios Release Calendar Disney released its movie calendar through 2021, instantly causing a lot of speculation from fans. You can see the full slate thanks to Deadline.com here(https://pmcdeadline2.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/disney-release-calendar-wm.pdf). It's interesting to note that Disney stayed away from any December releases in 2020. That is when Jame Cameron's sequel to Avatar - a.k.a. The biggest movie of all time - is expected to drop. I don't think Disney is necessarily afraid of Cameron as much as they are working to protect and advertise for the World of Pandora in Animal Kingdom. It doesn't make sense to undercut the parks side of the business just to prove how popular Star Wars or Marvel is. It's also interesting to note that Disney did not name the Avengers film nor the DisneyToon Studios film in 2019. We've known both of these movies are coming since 2015, so they aren't a surprise. I suppose they might be waiting to do a big reveal at D23 in July, but it seems a little odd. This is especially true for the Avengers film, which we know is part 2 of Avengers: Infinity War. Maybe they just have a snazzy title for it. Finally, we have a release date for Frozen 2!! November 27, 2019, Anna, Elsa, and the whole gang will be back for another adventure in Arendell. I can't lie, I'm excited for this one. There is a reason Frozen took the world by storm and I still count it in my top 5 of Disney's animated films. I'm not sure it will recapture the magic of the first one, but if it even comes close it will be something I can't let go. The full slate can be found at the end of this article. BORN IN CHINA REVIEW I haven't seen Born in China yet, but Ed gives a great review on the show and on his site, DisneyMovieDatabase.com. (https://www.disneymoviedatabase.com/copy-of-monkey-kingdom) Overall he gave it an 8 out of 10, saying that the movie is “looks magnificent” with compelling writing. The producers spent more than one year making the film and went through a lot of pain to capture footage we've never seen before. For example, this is the first time you will ever see Snow Leopard cubs in the wild on camera. DisneyNature caught that . Read more about what it took to make the movie here. We did it, friends! This week, we reach a podcasting plateau--200 episodes! Why, barely any other podcast has ever hit that peak before! (Don't verify our math.) And what better way to celebrate the 200th episode of Mousterpiece Cinema than with a direct-to-DVD sequel? Yes, really, thanks to issues of timing and ripping the band-aid off once and for all, Josh and Gabe are facing off with the DisneyToon Studios canon once more as they discuss the 2004 DTV release The Lion King 1 1/2. And guess what? Of all things, this one's a debate! Yes, it's true, one of your hosts didn't outright loathe this story about the budding bromance between Simba's friends Timon and Pumbaa; as they say on the Interwebs, the Answer Might Surprise You. Plus, a spirited revival of the old plea to Disney to release their old material on Blu-ray and on streaming turns into a great idea for a heist film. No fooling! Now, go listen to the show and celebrate in style!
It's time for an episode of Mousterpiece Cinema that's 25 years in the making! That's right: this week, Josh and Gabe are going back to the beginning...of DisneyToon Studios, at least, as they review the 1990 film DuckTales The Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp. They're joined by past guest Andrew Daar to talk all things DuckTales (woo-oo!), but also the film's not-so-shocking similarities to Disney's future adaptation of Aladdin as well as how famed comedian Rip Taylor might, in this film, be closer to half-Joe Camel and a third-Fonzarelli in playing a particularly...loud genie. (Yes, Poochie will be invoked a lot this week. A LOT.) Does DuckTales The Movie hold up after a quarter-century? Is there still quality to be mined from the original Scrooge McDuck stories? And will one of us sing this week? Find out now!
Inside The Mouse Castle: Disney News, Information and Commentary
Employees are being let go at DisneyToon Studios while Radio Disney shuts down all but one of its AM radio stations. Meanwhile, Robin Williams daughter Zelda is battling some pretty foul Internet trolls over her father's death. All that, plus Tim and Anthony discuss the strangely redundant release of "Frozen: Sing-Along Edition" on DVD and the home video battle between Amazon and Disney. www.TheMouseCastle.com
Please sit back, with your tray tables in their upright and locked positions and your seat belts fastened. This episode of Mousterpiece Cinema will be a wild flight indeed. What's that? You think it's super-creepy to imagine yourself, a human, taking a ride in an anthropomorphic plane? OK, fine, it's weird, but is it weirder than one plane fearing that he'll suffocate? Or the possibility of a Trail of Tears in a world of planes? How about birds that are apparently made of wood? Yes, it's that time again: time for Josh to scratch his head in befuddlement over the "world of Cars." And this time, Gabe is back to join him in a discussion of the new DisneyToon Studios film Planes: Fire and Rescue. Along with return guest Scott Mendelson of Forbes, Josh and Gabe set out to answer the important questions. Is Planes: Fire and Rescue better than its predecessor? Is it a good movie? Is "George Lexus" a good pun-style version of George Lucas? Lots of laughs in this discussion--so it's funnier than the movie, you might say. Take a listen!
Who's ready to go back to Never Land? Well, if this new episode is any indication, the answer may not be your intrepid co-hosts Gabe and Josh. While they still believe in faith and trust and pixie dust, they're not totally on board with Return to Never Land, the theatrically released sequel to Peter Pan from 2002. In fact, they're so not on board that, eventually, the conversation turned to a ranking of the films of Steven Spielberg. (Blame Hook for that.) And so, what begins as a frustrated discussion about why this DisneyToon Studios release falls so flat--hint: don't set your whimsical story during World War II--ends as Josh wondering if Gabe's lost his mind by ranking Hook over Jurassic Park. Yes, really. Anyway, think happy thoughts and listen to the new podcast!
Only a few days after the apparently-real, not-fake International Men's Day, it's time for your podcast co-hosts to have another one of their typical bro-hangs. And is there a better movie to bro out to than the 2003 film The Jungle Book 2? Possibly! But this movie is the subject of the new Mousterpiece Cinema, and you may not be shocked to learn that Josh and Gabe weren't too impressed with yet another entry from DisneyToon Studios. That's in spite of John Goodman and Haley Joel Osment stepping in to voice Baloo and Mowgli, too. But even though the movie's not too great, the discussion inspired by it is a ton of fun, and yes, because it's just Josh and Gabe, a bit tangential. You know what they say, though: the tangents are the best part of any discussion! (OK, we just made that up right now. But still. Check out the new show.)

Kaufman's two books about "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs": "The Fairest One of All" or ""Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: The Art and Creation of Walt Disney's Classic Animated Film." Don't look for alternative ways to enter. The only way to win is by listening to this podcast. Pretty sneaky, huh? In the meantime, you can also find out about layoffs at the Walt Disney Studios and the new video game based on Disneytoon Studios' upcoming "Planes." www.TheMouseCastle.com
Yes, friends, it's that time again: time for Gabe and Josh to dip into the direct-to-DVD well and see if they get oil, water, or...something in between. This week, they take a look at the highly anticipated return to Pride Rock with Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, and all our jungle friends with 1998's The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. Could any sequel to the immensely popular Lion King live up to expectations? Did the people at DisneyToon Studios even try to live up to expectations? Which accents did Gabe bust out this week? And what the hell do Nikki and Paolo from Lost--yes, the dearly departed TV series--have to do with Simba and the lioness villain of this new film? You'll have to find out by checking out the new episode!
