The world is facing a chocolate shortage due to climate change, supply chain issues, and rising production costs. Bill Yoder with Dutch Valley Food Distributors says this has been an issue for a few years. “The main reason behind the shortage is cocoa beans, the weather has impacted it. Also, the yield they're getting out of the crops isn't what they want, “said Yoder. Nicole and Isaac Bucher, owners of Mister Ed’s Elephant Museum and Candy Emporium had to get creative to combat the shortage. They also began utilized compound chocolate. “I would say, chocolate -covered Peeps is a good example of that. Peeps, marshmallow covered in lots of sugar. We, as an industry, lots of retailers would dip that in real chocolate and put sprinkles on it then. Is it worth covering that in real chocolate, or is maybe that something we should transition to a compound chocolate? Compound chocolate is just replacing the fat in the chocolate, which would be cocoa butter with a vegetable oil or substitute, and it's a lot more affordable, “said Nicole Bucher. Yoder says the shortage has impacted operations at Dutch Valley Food Distributors by creating more manual work. “We actually are allocating orders for our customers based off of volume from the past years. To explain it best, if a customer comes into us and wants to pull 10 ,000 pounds of chocolate, what they didn't buy from us last year, we're most likely going to turn that customer away, because we need that inventory to supply our current customers. Same goes for if a customer ordered 5 ,000 pounds last year in Q1, and now they want 15 ,000 pounds, we're going to hold them to that 5 ,000 pounds. We might be a little flexible, maybe an extra thousand or two to help them, but we really have to manage our inventory closely and keep it tight to make sure that we can supply all of our existing customers, “said Yoder. Mister Ed's Elephant Museum & Candy Emporium will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in February. The museum is famous for its one-of-a-kind candy, fudge, and pretzels. Nicole Bucher is the third-generation owner and chocolatier of the museum. Nicole and her husband Isaac purchased the shop in 2014. “My grandfather started the business in 1975. He was kind of an unusual character. And I guess one of the fun things about our business is how much it has evolved over the years. When he first started, he had, you know, fun things from the 70s like cold creatures, like Pennsylvania, coal things, souvenirs and just unusual things that you would find at a tourism stop. So, but what he noticed is that Candy was really popular, and he also had this kind of wacky small elephant collection. He threw it in the store, and it got a lot of attention. So, he started focusing on the things that made money and got interest, “said Nicole Bucher. In addition to the items sold in the stores, Nicole and Isaac give back to the community through various fundraisers. “We have a fundraising program that allows local organizations to raise money through fudge pretzels and cinnamon glaze nuts. And we also did, we brought back a bunch of events. And so we have four large free community events throughout the year and one is our Easter egg hunt. Santa Claus comes to the store. We also have a pumpkin party and a s'mores event in our store, and those are all free to the public, “said Isaac Bucher. For their 50th anniversary they're working on a mural and are looking for the community's support. “I'm working with an artist right now. I am a big proponent of community arts, and we're working on a mural that our customers will be able to help us paint and we're going to install it on our property. And it's all going to be based on my grandfather and his dream he had. His mind was full of colorful notions, so it'll definitely be colorful and pay homage to what he's built, “said Nicole Bucher.Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

These roles would have him appear opposite headliners including Judy Garland, Burt Lancaster, and Sidney Poitier. When recounting how he began his acting career, Patrick explained "I owe my career to my sister. She was the one who got me started and gave me all the encouragement. She always wanted to be an actress and was on the casting call sheet one day. She was asked if there were any other children at home. She told them about me, and I got some small roles, then some bigger ones..." “Sorority House” (February 8, 1961) A few times on this podcast, we've bent over backwards to find a gay interpretation of a sitcom that never did anything gay, but this is not one of those. Mister Ed was developed by Arthur Lubin, a closeted gay director who was married to a woman but eventually ended up cohabitating with a male companion. It's interesting, then, that he'd be into making a TV show out of a story about Wilbur Post, who's married to a woman and who's outwardly a traditional guy even if his most significant relationship is with a male — a horse, but a male nonetheless — that he has to keep secret. Primitive though it might be, Mister Ed is actually the blueprint for more traditional magic sitcoms like Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. Sharon Tate's life, work, and death has had an outsized impact on American culture. Victims rights, parole procedures, and victim blaming as a women hating phenomenon are all part of her story. It is an important one for women who either have been a victim or will become a victim of a violent crime in her lifetime. Unfortunately that comprises a rather large swath of the female population. Her death was largely blamed on her, and by extensions the other victims present at her home on Cielo Dr. I do not talk about the details of the crime but instead discover what about her was magic, why its so touching, and how we can remember and honor her. The primary film I discuss is the 1967 film Valley Of The Dolls. Her full acting credits are listed below. I also discuss her wedding dress, the recent auction of that dress and Leslie Van Houten's many parole approvals. I go into why she hasn't been let out and the political consequences of setting her free. As of today it looks like she will finally have that chance. sources for this week's show include: Recollections- by Debra Tate, Karina Longworth's work on the Manson family and Sharon Tate, Helter Skelter- by Vincent Bugliosi, and nearly every Photoplay that ever mentioned Sharon, including the October 1969 article mentioned by name in the episode. Are we still so into Hannah Stokely that we just have to talk her up even more? Is there anything on Quantum of Solace that we even want to talk about? Thank you for coming to your podcast's assessment meeting today. So, Here's What I Don't Get is doing pretty well all things considered. He turns in his episodes on time just about every week. He's raging at an above average level compared to his peers, which is really nice. He's doing really well in geography, really diversifying his news stories, it's great to see. And his voicemails have gotten much better since he started the SPITE program. So, really everything is looking great and he looks all ready for Kindergarten next year. We'll see you in a year then.- Mixing Metric and Imperial- Bicyclists- Low Res UI- Buying Consoles Day OneMetric measurements and imperial go together like sushi and a Wendy's frosty. You gotta choose one and stick with it, preferably choosing it depending on where someone's going to use it. Americans can't tell you how big 350mm is roughly, but they sure can tell 5 and a half feet at a glance, plus, smaller increments are much easier to visualize, so because we use a base-12 system, we've got more increments to use. 20 foot tall fence? That's 240 inches or 6.66 yards. Whereas in metric you've got jumps by the hundreds, that fence is either 365cm, 3.65m, or 0.00365km tall. And don't get me started on the argument that "feet" are a random thing to use to measure when you've got "stone".Bicyclists make up 0.001% of the total U.S. traffic numbers. But here we are, making whole lanes of traffic for them, EQUAL TO THE NUMBER OF LANES FOR CARS. YOU KNOW, THE BIG OLD FOUR THOUSAND POUND MACHINES THAT GO FAST AND WHATNOT. You're literally better off riding a horse. Bikes at their best generate less than one horsepower. Imaging passing a horse by itself, no rider on the street. His dumb Mister Ed-lookin' ass going along with traffic with everyone else. Can you? Because I can. You know what I can't imagine? A bicyclist not being an insufferable moron on the road. What good is your 4K HDR 7.2 sound system when the thing that's playing it has the resolution of a Game Boy Color? BE MORE STINGY WITH YOUR PIXELS. I NEED THOSE CRISPY 4K LINES OR I'M GOING TO HAVE BUYER'S REMORSE. I'M LITERALLY GOING TO KILL MYSELF AMAZON. YOU WILL HAVE BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS. I MEAN, ONE MORE THAN USUAL.Suckers. They come in all flavors. Watermelon, caramel apple, butterscotch, buttered popcorn, blueberry, cherry, coconut, grape, and you idiots that buy consoles on day one. Thanks for paying way more to beta test my games you FOMO-filled genius. Have fun when you get whatever the PS5's version of the YLOD or red ring is. When your Xbox Series X starts smoking for real, don't come crying to me, I'm waiting til they're dirt cheap and there's all the games I could want. "But, reasonable one," you say, "I get the privilege of paying seventy dollars for all these great games as they come out, then waiting for the next one, playing 10 hours, then waiting for 6 months, then playing 10 hours, then waiting again." This week on It was a Thing on TV, Greg and Chico deal with White House shenanigans, a horse playing baseball, witches and Tim Conway (?!?!) First, in Episode 103 we discussed Paul Lynde's self-titled sitcom at ABC in 1972-73. After another failed sitcom with Paul in a starring role at ABC, Paul did various guest spots on shows to fulfill his contract with the network. In 1976, Fred Silverman decided to give Paul his own primetime special for Halloween and in true Paul Lynde fashion he made it his own. Listen as Paul is trapped in a haunted mansion with The Wicked Witch of the West and Wilhemina W. Witchiepoo while having to battle with Tim Conway. Also it's got KISS, Betty White, Billy Barty and Florence Henderson singing disco, how can you go wrong? Next, we're covering our second baseball episode of the month. In Episode 54 we covered the 2004 reboot pilot of Mister Ed so now we're covering one of our favorite episodes from the original series. For the show's fourth season premiere in 1963, our favorite horse and Wilbur pay a visit to Dodger Stadium to see their favorite team along with legendary coach Leo Durocher. This episode answers the question can a HAWSE go deep against the great Sandy Koufax? Finally, in 2001, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone created a send up of television sitcoms involving the then brand new presidency of George W. Bush. It had the brilliance that the duo is known for, so why did this show only get eight episodes? Chico and Greg try to find out the reasons why in this episode. And that's true. I'm a serious sailor, I know these things. Look, this week's audio is a bit rough, but we promise* we fixed it after this. Between that and the week off on either side of this episode, it's a rough spot, but "shitty fly-by-night podcast" is kind of our thing. In this episode, a wife dunks on her husband, a vice president tries to take the crown, and we learn Mike has a crippling poker addiction. Bad Boss Ed is back, in Mother Russia you speak horse to Mister Ed, and it's a callback to topless pancakes. If only you could understand what our own Mister Ed thinks about things.

Spectacular chat with Butch Patrick, from pre-Eddie Munster... a cute sister and a charming mom helped pave the way to his first film at 7, with Eddie Albert, Jane Wyatt, and Soupie Sales, on The Two Little Bears. His resume is a time capsule of my youth. We talked about his guest starring roles on Ben Casey, Bonanza, My Favorite Martian, Mister Ed, Rawhide, The Real McCoys, and General Hospital, leading to The Munsters. The fun there with mentors Al Lewis and Fred Gwynne, and movie star at the time, Yvonne DeCarlo. How life changed and led to roles on My Three Sons, I Dream of Jeannie, and a week on The Monkees having the time of his life. Passing on a starring role in unknown George Lucas's American Grafitti, missing the draft by thismuch... partying himself into some troubled times, becoming a pop star with Whatever Happened to Eddie Munster, which led to MTV's Basement Tapes. Some more partying and trouble followed, leading to gettting sober and finding his niche. He's survived cancer, is COVID comfortable... he knows who he is, and is Butch Patrick comfortable. I loved every minute, and am more than a little thrilled to have spent some time in the company of my childhood Munster adoration. Such fun. Corona be damned! Whoa, Nellie! Guys and gals, boys and girls, do we have a great show in store for you, one that even Mister Ed themself would approve of! Today's show is all about dreams (and some other stuff, too, because we can never stay on topic). We talk a little bit about what dreams are, what they mean, and then share some of our own nightmares that have plagued us in the past and present (and hopefully not in the future). We also share a couple listener stories as well, so, hold on to your saddles, folks, 'cause this episode is going to get a bit wild. Hi-Yo, Silver! Away! Cheers and enjoy the dreamy show. A Mister Ed podcast would have fewer horse facts than today’s episode. We discover that writing a single episode of a show doesn’t quite give …
Boo! You know those scary monsters that haunt your dreams? Make-up artists and actors make them come to life. Make-up effects have evolved with film from the beginning of cinema. Artists delve into the dark parts of themselves to make real horrors we may not have even imagined. Sometimes the work is so good that the monsters become iconic in our culture. Can you imagine a time when no one knew what the Frankenstein monster looked like? In this episode I talk about make-up artists who transformed the craft and in turn transformed cinema. Before cats ruled the internet, Hollywood had always been in love with all the animals, the same way they love their celebrites. One of the very first films ever made was a horse galloping, straight to the glue factory!Like their human counterparts, some of the animals in Hollywood have led pretty awesome lives, but other animal’s stories are filled with exploitation, imposters and depressing deaths.Who was the Lindsay Lohan of the animal kingdom?Today we take a look at celebrity animals. The stories behind Mister Ed the horse, Benji the dog, Keiko the Killer Whale from Free Willy and Moose, the Jack Russell Terrier from Frazier, the Taco Bell Chihuahua, Lassie, Cheetah the Chimp, and Trouble, one of the world’s richest dogs.Plus,➤ Madonna writes a Manifesto and forgives Elton John.➤ You thought you have sex on your mind all the time? A fish with it’s genetalia on its head is discovered in Viet Nam.➤ And it’s not over yet– rumors are circulating that someone is trying to sell video footage of Prince Harry having sex, hopefully with men, during his drunken night in Las Vegas.____________________FEAST OF FUN IS MADE POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF FABULOUS PEOPLE LIKE YOU.LISTEN TO THOUSANDS LEGENDARY SHOWS with NO ADS:★ feastoffun.com/plus
A lengthy interview by well known news man, Walter O'Keefe. Discover some of the history of actor and comedian, Alan Young. At the time of this interview he was the star of the television program, Mister Ed. Listeners to the Retro Radio Podcast have heard Alan Young as featured in his own radio program. I would play him more often, but there arn't many of his radio shows out there, and I'm pacing myself. Originally formatted for a 2 hour broadcast, commercials, and station breaks have been edited out by a previous transcriber. Still it runs about 1 hour, 15 minutes. The format is to interview Alan at the top of the half hour, then go to music from 1947. Walter O'Keefe's interview covers Alan Young's early history, and his early career as a teenager. Also anecdotes of the show biz life, and wierd first jobs that Alan had. In a final segment Alan returns to tell about his musical ability, and some behind the scenes glimpses of his TV show. The show wraps up with a last tune, and Walter signs off with a deep thought to live by. He puts it so much more eloquently, but basically, "Don't long for what you don't have, and learn to enjoy what you do have." Bonus Tracks: None Today, the show is long, and already has music interspersed throughout. PS: I want to add that this is a rare show. There aren't any other recordings of the Almanac program that I know of, and interviews are always good for sharing rare, candid moments

Mr Young was born in North Shields,Tyne and Wear, England, and had the given name of Angus, he was raised in Edinburgh, Scotland and in Canada. He grew to love radio when bedbound as a child because of severe asthma, and became a radio broadcaster on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1944, he made the leap to American radio with The Alan Young Show, NBC's summer replacement for Eddie Cantor. Following a move to ABC in the fall (1944-46), he returned to NBC (1946-49). His television version of The Alan Young Show began in 1950. After the show's cancellation, Young appeared in supporting parts in films such as The Time Machine (1960). His most popular venture, however, was Mister Ed, a CBS television show which ran from 1961 to 1966. He played the owner of a talking horse which would talk to no one but him. Alan Young learned the radio craft in Canada and broke into American Radio after being fired from his first Canadian show Stag Party after asking for pay higher than the $15 per week he was earning. After working on a summer show for Eddie Cantor, Young earned his own show, The Alan Young Show, combining situation comedy and hilarious gags. He ventured into TV with television version The Alan Young Show which won him an Emmy in 1951. Then along came a talking horse. Mister Ed premiered in 1961. George Burns, producer of the show, was behind the decision to cast Young. Said George, "Alan was the type of man that a horse would want to talk to."
