What if there was a way to change the world for the better without having to change careers, abandon your dreams, or leave your family and friends to fend for themselves? This week, Michael shares how a simple story about the Scottish mystic Syd Banks points to a simply effective way of changing the world for the better.
In this week's episode I look at a piece of advice from Syd Banks' wife.
In today's brief (7 min) podcast, we'll dive into an intriguing question from one of my advanced programs—and into an answer that I believe reveals the #1 skill for creating deep, transformational impact. Together, we'll explore: The True Self: How do you explain to someone who they truly are? Beyond Words: Why words often fall short (and what to do instead) The Art of Connection: The importance of becoming a connoisseur of connection Fractionation: A fancy word for how Syd Banks used to ease people into the experience of their deeper selves Q: Are you a coach, thought leader, or change-worker looking to boost confidence, enroll clients with more ease and have a bigger impact? After 26+ years of research and training thousands of changeworkers, I believe this is your biggest (and perhaps counterintuitive) leverage point. Enjoy the episode! SHOWNOTES Natasja Hoogenboom E-book 3 principes Syd Banks
Dear Clare, I am beginning to see the possibility of this, but I get stuck on the same thing, over and over. I AM a separate physical entity in the relative world. Therefore there is a form of separation in my life. According to my understanding, what you are saying is that genetics and conditioning create my nervous system and thus Larry's action figure goes on and does his thing and suffers in the world. Then, Larry acquires through his nervous system another understanding that says he is powered (and so is this corrupted insane nervous system) by consciousness, Brahman, awareness or whatever you call it. Then comes the reflection that is not obvious to me: I should give up my ego and settle into this awareness and basically cease to participate with any intention in the relative world. So the choice is have a life in the relative world with ego or watch the automaton or the robot that I am in the “real world”. The choice is between having any identity separated or having no identity “enlightened”. All this while it is clear I am a separate physical entity performing actions in the relative world. I think this conundrum may be why Syd Banks did not talk about non-duality in his presentation. I did believe my nervous system is insane, but at least “I” can have a relationship with the world with it. Help!Larry

I listened to a Syd Banks talk in which he said we have the free will to use our thinking in any way we liked. He said if someone argues with you that they don't have free will, they are using their free will to argue with you.
Welcome to Season 5 of the Art of Brilliance Podcast! In this series there are no guests - just Andy and yourself, committing 10 minutes per week to listen to some positive content about happiness and wellbeing. In this episode, Andy talks about Syd Banks...
This week, Michael shares a quote from the enlightened Scottish welder Syd Banks and how it points to the freedom available to us all.
On this week's In Focus session I discuss about how to forgive yourself and live free from the past and the judgment. In this episode I read some extracts from Syd Banks writings, something that I've already done in other In Focus sessions. Particularly I read about "Forgiveness And The Power Of Thought", in which Banks explains how not forgiving yourself means living forever as a prisoner of your past. Of your traumas, of your judgments, of your negative feelings. I've seen this in my own life: for years I lived having misconceptions about myself and judging my past actions in the heaviest possible way. I was a prisoner of my own past, of my own thoughts. But what I've now realised is that forgiveness is freeing. On this episode I discuss: Forgiveness and love How to forgive yourself We are prisoners of our own past What are we judging ourselves for? Forgiveness is freeing If you enjoyed this session and think there is someone you feel would benefit from hearing it then please make sure you share it with them :) Produced by Michele Azzu Music by Hobgoblin Follow Alex: IG: @iamalexmanzi Tik Tok: @iamalexmanzi Twitter: @iamalexmanzi thedreamersdisease.co.uk
I always find “no doer” confronting but I did feel resonance with the very end of the talk that even self inquiry might be doomed until the doer is made more transparent. As you know, I struggle with the Witness as I find that term to be nihilistic. An entity or process that just observes is passive with no power. The truth is I rarely see this logic that you say is so obvious. I am aware that motor functions occur before the conscious mind is even aware, yet the artificial intelligence movement has created machines with far less power than the brain that do take responsibility for actions based on sensors. Maybe that metaphor fits your dialog also, but the obvious logic is really not obvious (I had this problem throughout HOME as well). I suppose my greatest problem with “no doer” is that it requires Faith that in giving up the doer all of this wonderful accountability and Wisdom will appear to align the mind and body to its greatest good (healthy behaviors, compassion, happiness for no cause, etc,). This has always been my only obstacle to fully understanding Syd Banks remarkable teachings, which you know I view as life-saving for me. What is the evidence for this Faith? What is the evidence that this Wisdom and accountability that appears will protect the doer as best as it can be done so the doer can let go. Or if we don't have any evidence, how does one actually take the leap?
On this week's In Focus session I am breaking down Syd Bank's 3 Principles lecture from a Conference in Hawaii in the early 90's. Syd Banks, was an ordinary working man, not searching for truth or wisdom or even aware of much beyond his day-to-day life. At the age of 43 he had a profound spiritual experience that revealed to him three, long-lost, divine principles that are a foundation to all of human experience. In his 'Hawaii Lecture', Syd, talks about these three divine principles and the implications of them. It's a really powerful talk and, like most of his work, is pretty hard to come by. In this episode, I want to share my deep learnings and insights from this particular audio. On this episode I discuss: Being one thought away from perfect mental health Why you don't need to 'heal' your past The role of free will Forgiving and forgetting in relationships If you enjoyed this session and think there is someone you feel would benefit from hearing it then please make sure you share it with them :) A big shout out to Michele Azzu for editing and producing this episode and to Hobgoblin for providing the music. I have been studying 3P for two years now. Via a podcast by Nicola Bird I found your book REAL. Read it, like it. But two weeks ago I read it again and it hit me like a brick. I have read many 3P books, and I understand it. But now all of sudden it saw it on a next and deeper level. So I joined your one month program. And strangely enough (I am at day 6 now) most of it is over my head. The videos and the live talk. I like it, but what are they saying? But in your book I understand almost everything. Feel and see it deeply, I can feel the peace. What's the difference? Listening to your program gives me a good feeling. That's what you should look for Syd Banks said. Should I listen to it like music. Without trying to understand and enjoy the ride? That's the thing to do now? Hope you can give me a small hint
Kate & Wyn explore the things in themselves and in their lives that have changed since they began to learn about the understanding of the mind as seen by Syd Banks. They reflect on the insights that have had the most impact on them and yet, these insights required no effort…only a willingness to look. They chat about the beauty of seeing (and also of not seeing at times!), and what a gift change really is. If you have any questions or comments for Wyn or Kate, please email us! Welcome to the podcast. I'm delighted to present this episode, “Living a Beautiful Life” with Jan and Chip Chipman. The theme for the ClarityLive conference it was recorded at was “How to make 2022 your most beautiful year yet” and it was really lovely. We had people joining us from all around the world, and there was a great sense of community, with lots of profound realisations. And one of the highlights of the weekend was my session with my dear friends, mentors, colleagues and collaborators, Jan and Chip Chipman. Jan, Chip and I met nearly 13 years ago and have been friends ever since. We've run retreats together in the Canary Islands and mainland Spain. They spent years being mentored by Sydney Banks, and one of the things you're going to love about this conversation is the feeling they bring. Chip also tells me favourite Syd Banks story in this session, so I hope you enjoy that too. Just before we get to that, I wanted to mention that the doors are about to close for the final intake of our flagship Clarity Certification Training programme. I say ‘final' because as you may have heard, I've decided to stop all business activities except for delivering programmes that I already have in the calendar for 2022. And I'm doing this so I have the time to write the second edition of my book CLARITY, and to create the space for what's going to come next. You know, when I first came to the principles, it was relatively unknown, and very few people knew how to share this understanding with others. And it was clear to me that we needed a cadre of highly-skilled coaches, trainers and change-workers who could share this understanding and have a big impact with their clients. Ten years on, and we've trained over 300 Clarity Coaches and I couldn't be more delighted. We now have that cadre of highly-skilled people with a deep understanding in place. Now it's time to get these principles out into the world in a bigger way, and I need the space to do that, so… This is the last time I'm going to be delivering Clarity Certification Training. 30 of the 36 places are now taken, so there are 6 places left as I speak. And I'm really looking for leaders who want to take this understanding out into the world at a time when there's never been a greater need for it. And for the first time ever, I've added a massive bonus package worth over £13,000, including the chance to sit in on a 3-day coaching intensive with a corporate client, later this year. And Jan and Chip Chipman are two of the teachers who do Masterclasses on the CCT programme, as well as mentoring our Advanced Clarity Coaches. So if you want to join me for the last ever Clarity Certification Training, go to www.JamieSmart.com/coach So now to the episode.

There is no need to fix a feeling when we know how feelings work, especially when we are not so caught up in negative emotions towards our career, our health, and our family. The experience of having feelings is all ok. They have nothing on you. Negative emotion just means you are temporarily farther away from your center which is calm, resilient, hopeful, and full of love. Nothing to see here and nothing to do. Just hang on and let it settle. "If the only thing people knew was to not be afraid of their experience then that alone would change the world." - Syd Banks

It has felt in the past like there was an I fixing myself whereas now, there's less of a sense of that. It's more like something arising by itself. My sense is that multiple 'I' characters are created each with its own narrative and patterns and we are identified with these 'I' characters until we see through them. Sometimes people see though the illusion completely and these self identities collapse in one go - like Syd Banks or Anita Moorjani, but often it's a slower process where one illusory character collapses while perhaps we're still identified with another? Do you see it like this or differently?
In this episode I share some thoughts on mental health from Syd Banks

Mental Health Transformations", is a group where each member has made a transformational shift in their wellbeing from mental distress and addiction to healing a whole new life of mental wellbeing. We are now looking to spread our message of hope that it is possible to heal and experience freedom to mental health and from physical diagnosis, addiction, and severe mental distress. Our group of 6 has shared talks for various mental health organisations and groups including Suffolk User Forum, The Pheonix Group in Ipswich, NHS Therapists along with a series of podcasts and webinars. The group offers a unique perspective on people suffering from their mental health and their recovery. Included in the group is an experienced international 3 Principles Educator and author, who has successfully helped countless people throughout the world who suffer from their mental health and addiction, a PHD scientist and a psychotherapist, but the proof or fruit of the tree is the members own experiences of recovery from severe distress and diagnosis--many of these conditions, experts have declared would render them likely to suffer from a lifetime of incurable suffering, Some members of the group have been on medication after spending years, and for some, decades, in the mental health system. Several group members now work in the mental health field themselves and help others find a new way of moving forward with their lives. Our life-altering changes came about after experiencing an insight of the 3 Universal Principles, as uncovered by Sydney Banks, and the profound effect they could have on people who were previously unable to find a way out of their suffering. Mental Health Transformations was formed in 2020 by Harry Derbitsky, educator with over 30 years' experience and coach specialising in addiction, anxiety and mental health. Harry has worked extensively with clients from around the world and with indigenous communities in Canada, USA and other parts of the world. He is the author of 5 books as well as co-hosting several podcasts including Addiction, Alcoholism and the 3 Principles with over 20k combined downloads. Harry handpicked the group members based on their profound Transformations and insights from a life of mental suffering to a whole new life of healing after discovering the truth and teachings of the 3 Principles first uncovered by Syd Banks. Included in the group are members who have spent decades in and out of the mental health system, hospital and on medication after suffering severe anxiety, depression, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, OCD and Asperger's Syndrome and have now turned their lives around with their insights and new self-realisations since exploring the 3 Principles teachings. These include a qualified psychotherapist with over 12 years' experience and who herself suffered severe social anxiety, health anxiety and panic attacks before discovering the 3 Principles; a scientist with PHD in Quantum Physics who had a transformational recovery from addiction, mental health issues and severe pain; a peer mentor who has worked for over 5 years in mental health groups. The group have already performed several successful talks and guested on podcasts for mental health organisations, therapists and mental health groups. When we see that our worst enemy is not our desperate circumstances but the very human tendency to getting caught up in the content of our thinking, silly beliefs, and conditioning of how life is supposed to be. Syd Banks, the brilliant Scottish mystic once said: "Everyone at this moment is mentally healthy when you look at yourself from those eyes and you look at others from those eyes the way you are changes." And you don't find it in your intellect. When our mind calms down we enter this space as Syd Banks calls it, "pure consciousness." You don't have to believe in spirituality (or practice anything), being religious to see what I am pointing to. It's always there. It's always on offer. It's built in to everyone of you. Once your thinking gets quiet we drop into the fearless now. *
Listener question: I am thinking of having a subliminal recording. I have only listened to a few Podcasts you have done and read your book Real. On the basis of that information it sounds like you lean a little toward Advaita Vedanta. I find Advaita complex and cold as well as stimulating to the intellect. (Robert Spira is the best example of this for me. The guy is brilliant but when I listen to him, I feel the need to figure out what he is saying, and I get contracted and tense). For me, the magic of Syd Banks was his simplicity - talking about finding a good feeling rather than worrying about the vagaries of non-dual philosophies (Compare "Dear Liza" to "The Transparency of Things"). In my subliminal I would need to escape the intellectual sentries who love to get all wrapped up in "not having a self" and "self-inquiry" and rather lean toward "listening for a good feeling" and knowing that "my feeling comes from my thinking". In your personal teaching and the subliminals, do you come from the Principles and Syd's "The Missing Link" or more from pure non-dual affirmations?
Listener question: I found your website while reading “Real” and had a complex reaction to your talk about subliminal s. I thought it was brilliant to try to get past the intellect sentries to allow an opening as I think it is my feelings about my intellect that prevent me from seeing deeply. On the other hand, I met Syd Banks at the Hawaii lectures in 2001 and have listened extensively to him saying I shouldn't need subliminal or psychological tools because I am sitting in mental health and I am one thought away from insights that would be life shifting. I would be very curious about your response, since you are definitely anchored in the principles and have “made it” to the other side. I would appreciate any ideas you may have.
Rohini and Angus interview their mentors, George & Linda Pransky. The Pranksys share about how their relationship has evolved over time, and most notably how it changed after they met Syd Banks, the man who first conceptualized the understanding we speak about on this podcast.Linda describes their first year together as volatile and painful. After talking with Syd, they started getting over conflicts in their relationship quicker -- neither of them were taking things as personally anymore. Seeing that they were moving in the right direction together, they could ease up on trying to work to make the relationship better. Taking away this pressure allowed Linda and George to access a light-heartedness, and their fondness for each other increased tenfold. George warmly refers to his fondness for Linda now as "omnipresent fondness" that spans "wall to wall". By this he means there is no gap in his fondness for her, and so there's no longer anything to even not take personally. There's no issue! They are so united that they can both rest and trust in the fact that the other would never purposefully hurt the other. This makes asking for an apology, when necessary, easy. We let the simplicity and warmth of George and Linda's wisdom and love wash over us. We hope you enjoy "hanging out in their living room" as much as we did. This episode explores:The arbitrariness of thoughtIt's ok to disagreeRelationships as a united front transcends the individualsThe hum of fondness The before and after of the Pranksys learning this understandingShow notes:Hair on it: having something on it, in the business world. It's better to not have a hair on it.Mew: To Rohini's surprise, mew is indeed an alternative form of meow. Mew as a noun, is a gull or a place for hiding, as a verb it can refer to the cry of a cat. Meow refers solely to the cry of a cat.Linda Pransky specialized in psycho-social nursing, but grew disillusioned by techniques and approaches that didn't seem to create lasting change for people. After her and George met Sydney Banks in 1976, she saw a way to help people create sustainable change. Dr. George Pransky has taught the principles for over 30 years to individuals, couples, businesses and colleagues -- he is one of the two professional founders of The Principles of Mind, Thought and Consciousness and the author of The Relationship Handbook. Both George and Linda serve on the executive committee of the Three Principles Global Community, and continue to pioneer this understanding with new industries and populations. They are both both Partners at Pransky & Associates. Learn more about their work. Angus & Rohini Ross are “The Rewilders.” They love working with couples and helping them to reduce conflict and discord in their relationships. They co-facilitate individualized couples' intensives that rewild relationships back to their natural state of love. Rohini is the author of the ebook Marriage, and they are co-founders of The 29-Day Rewilding Experience and The Rewilding Community. In this episode we see how to see the mental health in all human beings. The eminent Scottish mystic Syd Banks once said “mental health lies within the consciousness of all human beings, consciousness of all human beings, but it is shrouded and held prisoner by our own erroneous thoughts. That is why we must look past our contaminated thoughts to find the purity and wisdom that lies inside our own consciousness. When the wise tell us to look within they are directing us beyond intellectual analysis of personal thought, to a higher order of knowledge called wisdom."
Might Help, Can't Hurt! Conversations with Leaders, Doers, and Friends
In this episode I'm in conversation with Dr. William F. Pettit Jr., Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at both Creighton University School of Medicine and Michigan State University School of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a recognized educator in the Three Principles Understanding, and has presented at many national and international conferences and consulted to numerous clients and organizations both nationally and internationally. Bill and I talk about where stress actually comes from, how mental health diagnoses can become an unnecessary burden, and how a principles-based understanding of the mind and body can help anyone to uncover their mental health and peace of mind regardless of circumstances. Cathy is a former international economist and policy adviser turned three principles coach. For over twenty years she was an advisor to governments and international organisations around the world, including seven years as a development economist in Southern Africa. In her mid-40s, she left a job she loved for reasons she cannot describe. Having previously dipped into the teachings of Michael Neill, it took a challenge from a mastermind partner to prompt her to take another look at coaching. She went on to train in Micheal Neill's Supercoach Academy and today works with clients in leadership roles and in the arena of social change. In this episode, we talk about:Why we lose our way when we talk about politics. The joy of making it up. How she structures her coaching packages and the great freedom of making it up as you go along.Listening for signals. And, the paradoxical nature of it. How determining what to pay attention to and what to ignore really comes back to the question of ‘Am I being my higher self?'.The things we get too attached to: our lived experience, the personal nature of creation and worshipping the god of intellect.Plus, the age-old debate about which way the forks go in the dishwasher - when it matters and when it really doesn't. In this weeks episode of the Find Your SPARK podcast, Brooke and Nicole talk about a profound post they came across that reminded them both, when coming from a place of love, answers will always arise. They reflect on recent times that they lost sight of this and “got off track” when focusing on all the chaos going on in the world. When we do this, we are trying to find solutions from the world, rather than inside ourselves. That’s when there’s no connection to humanity and life can feel off. Listen as they read this post with you and share their insights they got from it. Listen as they share, The Difference Between Looking At The World Divided & Looking At The World Inside You. Below is the Facebook post referenced in this podcast by Dominic Scaffidi. "In recent months this group "blew up" with arguments and polarization. Just like the rest of the world. I stepped back and have not been involved much. When I dropped by occasionally, I noticed strong arguments for the "right way to think"; and the "right perspective" that all good people must hold. You are with us or you are against us. You either see it this way and ACT NOW - or you are part of the problem. We must rise up before it is too late! That seemed strange for a community that is drawn together to explore and share this understanding. It's interesting to notice that when things get REAL, it appears that having this understanding doesn't make much difference. We were unable to be with each other in a way that's much of an example for others (who do not have this understanding). I wondered how Syd might guide us. I went back to his old talks to see if he had any guidance. I learned he was a bit of an activist who ultimately changed his ways. Here are his thoughts. It's as if he's speaking to us about today's world... "To direct people back inside is the only way, the only way, that we'll ever have harmony in this world. And this harmony includes pollution, people starving to death, people killing each other, people robbing each other. So on and so forth. Countries fighting. There is no way. There is absolutely no way in the world can peace and harmony come to the world via our conscious minds. There is no government in the world. There is no person in the world smart enough to do it. Because there is no answer. There is no answer from outside. But if we travel inside and start to realize that all life is a conscious state, and as we get into this divine state, the world will change round about you. As the world starts to change round about you, you go into harmony, have happiness, tranquility, peace, love, understanding. Put them all together and it's what the Bible calls God. Because God is the purest of love. And only this love can solve the world's problems, all the world problems, it's the only way. They can try 10 Million ways outside and all they'll be doing is carrying on the illusion in another form. You must raise the level of consciousness of mankind to find this happiness. Jesus Christ tried it. He raised the level of consciousness of people. This is why they healed themselves. Because as he raised their level of consciousness, they became in harmony with the rest of the world and with their inner self. And when this happens, you're sicknesses vanish. You can pay your debt off to society within a second. To be hanging on to silly, petty, stupid sicknesses to keep us in our place. When you find how beautiful life is, you don't need them, you become free. The only freedom that exists in the world is in your inner self via a conscious state because all life, all life is a conscious state. There is nothing outside. These words don't make sense to you. They're not meant to . Because there is no words can explain it. You can only explain it as closely as possible, as simply as possible. The simpler the better. So I try to explain it. But it doesn't turn out right. Because it's not the words you've got to hear. It's what's beyond the word. And this comes as an experience. It comes as a direct experience from hearing. Not listening. Hearing. Which is a totally different thing. Because when you truly hear, you get a new experience. You raise your level of consciousness. The higher your guide is speaking, the better it is for you. The simple reason, if you hear him when he's speaking high, that's exactly what you're gonna do is go high.If you talk about petty things like politics, things like this. I've already told you, you'll never solve the problem. Not until you go inside, then you change the world. Because the world is inside you. It really is. Everything is inside you right now. All your happiness that you've ever wanted. All the joy you ever wanted. All the money you ever wanted. All the health you ever wanted. All the security you ever wanted. It's all inside you.......Two year ago, just over two years ago I was so concerned with the world you wouldn't believe. I was into unions, fighting with the bosses, tons of governments, Vietnam, race discrimination. Every one of them got me so uptight. Those other guys doing all this to those poor people. About the people starving throughout the world. And I was uptight all the time. I was sick from it. This is what made me sick. Because all my worries, all my stress, thinking about the rest of the world. And when I found this little secret, things changed. Because I started to realize there was nothing out there at all. That all the secret and all the happiness lies inside. Now since that time, I am sure, absolutely sure, I have done more in the past year for humanity than I would have done in 10 million years of the old Syd Banks. And anybody that's ever heard. Really heard. They too have started to change the world. Because everybody they talk to changes. People are changing very rapidly. Their health has been changing. Mysteriously. So called mysteriously. Their sicknesses have been vanishing. This is how I can answer that. Once again, you can't solve the problem outside. You must go inside and each individual soul in the universe must find his own utopia. Then when he finds it, then he comes out in full blossom and gives all this love and all this knowledge to change the level of consciousness of the universe. And this is the only way you'll ever have peace on earth."- Sydney Banks, It's That Simple, A talk in Courtney, B.C. circa mid 1970's" Find out more about Dominic Scaffidi here at https://www.dominicscaffidi.com or https://m.facebook.com/groups/597623504209154
On today’s Brain Booster we are joined by Sam Jarman, author of the books ‘The Three Principles of Outstanding Golf’ and ‘Take Relief’. Sam is an accomplished PGA professional both as a player and a coach. As a player himself he by his own admission explored a number of ideas and philosophies without any of them making much of a difference. Do YOU want to become a CERTIFIED Mind Factor Coach? Are you going to join us and take ACTION Find out by clicking the link below https://themindfactor.net/product/mind-factor-course-video-training-2019/ For him the world started to look differently when he came across ‘The Three Principles’ From the work of Scottish philosopher Syd Banks. If you haven’t heard of Sydney Banks it is definitely worth your while exploring his work more. With Sam we get to discuss some of the ideas behind Syd’s work. Why so many ‘techniques’ both from a swing perspective and a mental game perspective are doomed to fail. When you attempt to control your thinking with ever more thinking. You get lost in the search for THE way to do things. When perhaps a better approach is to understand at a deeper level the way your mind works. That thoughts will always come along. You cannot control them. You cannot stop yourself from thinking. It is very tough to change the nature of your thinking. What you can do however is have a different RELATIONSHIP to your thinking. When you have a different relationship to the way your mind works you potentially open up a wonderful new area of possibility. Sam explains his own experience with the Three Principles It is a very interesting session today which will certainly get you to ponder a potential new direction and a set of insights you may not have considered before. A look at the Syd Banks quote: “The most selfless thing you can do, is to be selfish about prioritizing your own peace of mind”, and what implications that has in our everyday lives.
In today's episode we're joined by Woody; and boy! was this an enlightening conversation! It stretched our minds and made us question everything including our own thinking. If you're interested to hear about someone who totally transformed their life, this episode is for you. From addict to guru, he talks to us about his years of addiction to drink and drugs, his time in rehab and his subsequent, awakening and sobriety. Woody worked in Private Equity, driven by money, success and a rock n roll lifestyle, before radically changing his life. He now coaches high performing individuals and lives in an (almost) constant state of peace... yes, you heard that right. Woody teaches us so much in this episode: We have inherent resilience. Our external experiences do not create our internal experience. (It's a mind bending concept in a lot of ways - but stick with it!) The power of thought - 'I don't have to feel what I'm thinking'. Pause a minute and take that in... you are not your thoughts Enthusiasm for life is within. We often don't realise it's us. We assume it's the external circumstances. Life is not an outside-in experience. Towards the end of the episode, we also discuss how Woody's enlightened state of mind can marry up with the anger and outrage over such potent issues like Black Lives Matter: He notes - we don't make good decisions when we're mad, sad or worried. People mistake peace for inaction. Actually peace is inspired action. We have two states - stuck ‘in your thinking' or ‘in life'. What we THINK is up for grabs. In short, our default is we feel what we think; but we are at choice to tell ourselves otherwise. Resources (from Woody himself!): - Syd Banks has lots of videos (I think 3 video series and many other individual ones) on YouTube and on www.sydbanks.com - If you want to get a feel for what the 3 Principles then the best thing to do is listen to Syd - just don't try to understand it intellectually. Look beyond the words to the Truth of it, we have to look within to understand it - 'Within' or 'inside' is a metaphor for beyond the physical world, beyond what any of us can conceive - Syd also wrote 6 books about this understanding Other amazing coaches / teachers mentioned: - Micahel Neill, Dr George Pransky (Michael's mentor), Dr Joe Bailey, Dr Bill Pettit I also love Dr Dicken Bettinger, Cathy Casey, Judy Sedgman, Elsie Spittle. On this new episode, we shared a conversation with Linda Pransky. She spoke about her meeting Sydney Banks and how her consciousness started to shift by seeing through insight. Honesty is brought to light when pointed to Syd Banks' teachings. A unique conversation. Linda Pransky went to graduate school at The University of Washington in 1975. She specialized in psycho-social nursing, because she had an interest in learning how people change. She learned techniques and approaches to helping people, but nothing seemed long lasting and beneficial. When she met Sydney Banks in 1976 she saw a way for people to really change. Her vision became one of helping people seek real and long lasting change. Linda is currently on the executive committee of the Three Principles Global Community, past faculty member for the One Thought Institute and Partner at Pransky and Associates. On this episode, we have a beautiful conversation with Jan & Chip Chipman. Sydney Banks' change is so relevant to this story as Chip narrated that it is best described in the book, Genesis of the Three Principles, "... It wasn't about Syd Banks, the man, it was about an unbelievable experience that can't be defined, an experience that happened to him... When you listen to his story, when he talks about his experience you hear him try to explain that Sydney Banks, as a man, basically disappeared for a moment, and the wisdom of all ages rushed into his consciousness. If we ever forget that that's how it started, then, we will lose the power behind this or we'll diminish the power behind this, because the Three Principles – Divine Mind, Divine Consciousness, and Divine Thought – have profound implications for humanity, profound implications for understanding the psychological functioning of human beings. So, it's true that that experience Syd had, had those implications, but the implications aren't the thing... but I can say this: without the recognition of that fact, that that's what happened, we do lose something; we do lose something." Jan and Chip Chipman's bio: Chip and Jan had the honor of being mentored by Sydney Banks from 1975 until 2009. From 1994 to 2004 they conducted retreats with him in Europe and North America. His guidance during these events about sharing in as deep and simple a manner as possible, guides their work to this day. They currently share their understanding though speaking engagements, retreats and webinars worldwide. From their base on Salt Spring Island, they offer one on one Skype sessions as well as retreats for individuals, couples, and groups. The books and recordings of Sydney Banks are fundamental to all their work, helping countless people find happiness and understanding after being touched by those original materials. Chip is President of the Three Principles Foundation, and in 2008, co-founded the Three Principles School on Salt Spring Island, dedicated to sharing the simplicity and purity of the Three Principles, “As discovered and taught by Sydney Banks”.
Hello superfriends! In this episode, we're talking about what creates our feelings and what our thoughts are really telling us. I also share the first time I became curious and wondered about the nature of thought. Our feelings affect every action we take or don't take, so learning about where do our feelings come from will change our lives. I lived my entire life trying to find the answer and when I found it, my entire life changed, forever. This realization has the capacity to heal your suffering as it did for me. I'd been trying to find a way to share it with others ever since. And I'm on my way. I mention Syd Banks and the 3 principles: Mind, Consciousness, and Thought. https://youtu.be/YWsNXbRXq3M (one of his lectures) Be curious, don't be afraid to misbehave and stay wonderful, Superfriend. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/womenwhowonder/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/womenwhowonder/support
How to have conversations that transform lives and a piece of advice from the Scottish mystic Syd Banks
This week's podcast is a PG13 rated exploration of one of my favorite Syd Banks quotes that points to the intersection of our personal psychology and impersonal spiritual nature. It's kind of a fun one if you like that sort of thing... :-)
Do the principles represent the the future of psychology? I’m Jamie Smart, and what you’re about to hear is me being interviewed by the author Amir Karkouti, the creator of the What The F*#$ Are The Principles? group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/299806010361726/ In this conversation I make the case for why the principles behind clarity (as realised & articulated by Syd Banks) represent the future of psychology. We cover quite a lot of ground in this session including: - What distinguishes the principles from every other psychological and spiritual model - My take on what Syd Banks meant when he said "Thought is the missing link" - Why I believe the two most valuable things you can discover are how experience is created and who you really are The session also includes a Q&A session where I was asked some really great questions, including... - How can you be so certain these principles represent the future of psychology? - Why teach this rather than (for instance) "pure non-duality" or some other spiritual or psychological model? - How to free yourself from the need to convince anyone (and the challenges inherent in that) So with that, here’s my conversation with Amir…

In this week's podcast I share a story about the Scottish mystic Syd Banks and his continually pushing people towards following their own wisdom, not his.
In this week's podcast I share an insight from Syd Banks that helped me see that talking about Mind, Consciousness, and Thought isn't always the best way to share them.
Today's guest is Judy Sedgeman, one of the early pioneers of the Three Principles understanding. She shares with us her experience of unexpectedly bumping into the work of Dr Bill Petit, meeting Syd Banks and how her journey through learning and teaching the Principles unfolded. Judy has a huge range of experience sharing this with a diverse set of people and now her clients include people struggling with the worst of circumstances we could possiblly imagine. We discuss how we can use the gift of thought to create suffering or joy and how life has a way of working out.....no matter what.
Joe Bailey is a psychologist and author of some of the most life-changing books I have read. He is also a pioneer of this understanding and has been sharing and teaching since his encounter with Syd Banks in 1980. In today's episode Joe talks about how addictions are created and how although there's nothing to do to find peace of mind, there still might be something that needs doing. Listen. It will make sense when you do! He also talks about his recovery from Lyme disease - after suffering with pain, memory loss and exhaustion and having been told he'd never be well again; he had one simple insight that meant that today he is completely healthy and well.
Andy’s always excited about being in the podcast hot seat but this month it’s extremely hot! Tune in to listen to his chat with Debbie Deeley, a coach and 3 Principles practitioner. They explore the work of Syd Banks (the most incredible bloke you’re never actually heard of) and unpick ‘inside-out’ thinking. Andy describes it as a ‘must listen’. Even better news, the ‘Art of Brill’ team are putting together a brand new workshop on the 3-Principles. Watch this space. #GameChanger. Keep an open mind while you listen…
And this week's show is with Robin Charbit, one of the founders of Insight Principles. Although Robin is a chemical engineer by training, he has spent most of his 35 year career in the world of business, first as a the leader of one of Exxon's large international businesses based in Europe, and then as the Director of a consulting practice in Boston, Massachusetts. About 16 years ago, he came across the work of Syd Banks and saw it as the missing element in the world of business. That led him to found Insight Management Partners, to explore how to bring this understanding into business. About 10 years ago, he met Ken Manning and they joined forces to create Insight Principles. In this show we're talking about getting anything done at work or in life without bother or stress. We all have had moments where we surprise ourselves, we leap that tall building without effort, we solve that issue with ease, or we just see what to do without apparently having to think too much about it. Most people agree when you say this to them. Most people also agree that this is a fleeting occurrence. Robin explains what this phenomenon is, where it lives, and how to have more of it. The interesting thing is there is nothing to do when you know where to look. What you'll learn from this episode: There's an alternative to the bother and stress of today's busy lives and it's to live from an understanding of what allows us to access insight, ease and peace. Remember a time when you were at peace on the inside. Psychologically peaceful. Try to remember what qualities were present in you at that time: Open, at ease, settled down. Were you doing them or did those qualities just show up? If they just showed up, where did they come from? Inside or innate. Not something to get - something to connect to. How to connect to that space? The more we understand how the system works the less we get caught up in thought and have access to that space.
This episode has me coming to terms with a piece of advice that Syd Banks reportedly doled out on a regular basis which makes perfect sense and I still find difficult at times to wrap my head around.
Join Jeanne Catherine Gray as she hosts Dr. Jack Pransky to talk about Sydney Banks, the human being. Jack will be live in Charlottesville, Virginia with us for this radio show.Have you noticed that enlightened teachers often reach somewhat mythical status? People sometimes forget that even enlightened teachers are human too. Join us for stories about Syd Banks that both show his humanness and help us see more about life and its simplicity.
Last week was such fun. I spoke at the Tuesday Intro Class at the Innate Health Centre in London and was completely blown away when Terry Rubinstein asked me to facilitate a Practitioner Training day on the Wednesday. I had a blast on both days with some incredibly wonderful people. I am always honoured and humbled when people ask me to train, present or speak at their events. But I have a secret…..I firmly believe that I don't know anything that you don't already know!! My business friends really tell me off for saying that. They believe that the above statement is a one-way ticket to failure for a Coach and Consultant to say out loud. I don't care…it's the truth and for the record it has never hindered my potential to attract clients ! You see I may have had different experiences and adventures and lived a longer or a shorter timespan than you and worked in different professions and have different qualifications but what binds us together is “This Being Human”. What if you dropped who you thought you are meant to be to just be who you really are? People seem to love how I show up, they enjoy the humour, wisdom, authenticity and honesty I bring to any discussion and begin to see very clearly and quickly that because I see there is nothing separating us then effortless, deep and transformational conversations frequently occur. People begin to drop down into what makes them human without all the erroneous thinking that keeps us stuck in life and business. I know with certainty that the greatest gift I have received from understanding the principles behind life is that I am no longer scared to be me or to have any of my experiences. This was huge for me because I was one of those people who glided along life like a swan, looking elegant and graceful on the outside but I was paddling furiously underneath it all just trying to make sure everything turned out to be what I considered RIGHT !!!! At times I was innocently scared, worried and fearful of life. I buried difficult experiences deeply into my subconscious mind but they always show up in one form or another via addictive habits and sabotage behaviours to name a few human distractors. But there is another way to live life, a way that doesn't require control or fear. A way that allows us to see where our experience of life is coming from which is not our circumstances or the events that unfold or happen in front of us but simply how we think about these events or circumstances. Since time began innocently we have thought everything worked the other way. For example if my car breaks down it must be the fact that my car has broken down that has caused me to feel upset or if my kid isn't keeping their room tidy it must be the fact that their room is untidy and they are ignoring me that is keeping me upset and angry. Wrong……… It is the simple fact that you THINK that is making you feel anything in any given moment. Our thoughts affect our feelings not the other way round. And once you see this simple fact of life this being human thing becomes simpler to navigate and easier to enjoy, irrespective of our circumstances. Rumi says that every experience, every situation and person that comes into your life is here to guide and teach us to become more human. Syd Banks told us that life is a contact sport and I want to tell you that life is here for us to live fearlessly. This being human thing is a marvelous adventure, full of laughter, giggles, love, upset, birth, death, illness, wellbeing, success and failure. But boy what a trip it becomes when we understand where our experience of life is coming from. Go do it – live life !!!!
