This is a shitsort for Team Sort of Brilliant, but not for Carla and Meg, so who know why it takes us 20 minutes to even start talking about the show (this is the only time we get with one another, we're all busy ok). We entered this podcast with the intention of sorting three people, but Carla and Meg chose episodes based on character aesthetic versus actual ability to sort, so in this episode we for real sort Thony and Arman and then kind of halfhearted sort a bunch of people whose names I now no longer recall. We recorded this two weeks ago. I turned 29 in the interim, which means my memory automatically degraded like 5 whole IQ points. That sounds like science, so we're going with it. This show was good! In this episode, we reflected on our relationship with our fathers. Thony shared his understandings of his father and the similarities his parents share. Charlotte shared her amending relationship with her biological father and her realizations with her father who stepped in when she was only four years old. We reflected on our relationship as a child and how it changed as we became adults. We also shared what we would like to tell our fathers one day. There's still so much we don't know about our parents but we hope we can start creating moments of curiosity and connection with them. In this episode, we reflected on our relationship with our moms. Charlotte's mom had her young and was a single mother for a period of time. Thony's mom raised him in a traditional household. As we got older, our relationship naturally evolved. We've learned to humanize our moms by listening to their stories and seeing the many roles they play. We are grateful for the sacrifices they've made and for the life they have given us. The relationships we have with our moms aren't perfect but we wouldn't want to go through this process of unlearning without them. Our moms did the best they could with the knowledge they had. Thony is an independent scholar based in Germany who also the author of the superb Renaissance Mathematicus blog.  His knowledge of the history of Early Modern science is vast and so he is the perfect person to give us a detailed overview of what happened and, more importantly, what did not happen in the dispute between Galileo and the Catholic Church.
