In this episode of TellyCast, host Justin Crosby dives into one of the biggest debates in the industry—does the UK's TV commissioning system still work in 2025, or is it time for a major reset?Joining Justin is Ed Sayer, former commissioner-turned-producer, who shares his unique perspective from both sides of the fence. He discusses the challenges producers face, the realities of commissioning, and whether commissioners are unfairly criticised. From the infamous “commissioning hell” to issues around feedback, IP ownership, cash flow, and shifting priorities, Ed lays out the hard truths of the system.Later, an anonymous Secret Producer joins the conversation to reveal how the “fewer, bigger, better” commissioning strategy is squeezing out smaller and mid-sized indies, making it harder than ever to break through with ambitious projects. Is the commissioning process outdated? Are small indies being pushed out? And what's the future for TV producers in an era of consolidation and risk aversion? Topics and terms such as biosafety, biosecurity, containment, and contamination are things most of us have heard of and think about at some level, but with the pace of molecular biology moving faster than ever, these are topics with implications that are reaching farther than ever. We're joined by Dr. Ryan Burnette and Dr. Lauren Richardson from Merrick and company for this episode, and they're ace communicators that help walk us through the expanding horizon and implications of these topics. This conversation starts on the basic topics, like what biocontainment is and what's needed for each of the four levels of biosafety labs, but it quickly moves beyond, shining a light on the security and containment needs for more than just the organisms. We hear about how the data and methods used to do modern molecular biology, as well as the data generated in the experiments, are equally precious and in need of protection and containment. With public health and safety on the line, and an acknowledgement that the pace of science moves faster than that of policy, we get into the idea of who really owns responsibility for protecting data. Your role might be more important than you know, so don't miss this conversation that will make you pause and think! Subscribe to get future episodes as they drop and if you like what you're hearing we hope you'll share a review or recommend the series to a colleague. Australian Neo Nazi’s are thriving on Social Media thanks to Elon Musk providing them a platform on X, formerly known as Twitter. Shadow Home Affairs Minister Senator James Patterson told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "I think a lot of young lives are being harmed when people don't know any better and they are looking for meaning in their life, and they fall into crews like this." "We should make that process as hard as possible, not as easy as possible, to divert them from those pathways." "Hopefully they grow up and grow out of it and lead normal lives like everyone else." "Right now, there's a bill before the Parliament to make our federal incitement to violence laws fit for purpose, because they're not," Senator Patterson said.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Send us a textWhenever the deliverable from a public sector agency fails to meet expectations, there are two general causes. First, is the most likely, that the expectation of the target audience was outsized or inconsistent with the actual legislated and funded mission. We see this in ad hoc interviews and formal press conferences, where a resident or mayor states they thought the response would be X, but it was Y. It is often simply an unrealistic and uninformed expectation as to the capabilities and capacity of public sector EM that leads the call for change. The second, less likely rationale is that there was a failing within the system, that while it was established and funded to execute a mission, they failed to meet the expected standards. These are harder to identify and longer to investigate, as one quality of public sector agency leadership is that it is uncomfortable with dirty laundry being publicized.FEMA was constructed with the best on intentions, undergoing multiple changes over its near 50 year reign as the global leader in EM bureaucracy. The level of education courses, application or management systems and governance structures is indeed, awe inspiring. Many often joke that it would be a challenge to make it more complex, not impossible, but difficult. It is an easy target to simple say a massive beast of administration failed. Intellectually grounded discussions demand a more precise discussion. One to evaluate is whether FEMA, as currently constructed, funded and governed, is the best known methodology and structure - is it “fit for purpose”. There are no shortage of experts, academics, practitioners and interested parties that believe they know there is a better way. I intentionally avoid the use of that word, “better”. It connotes that the current methodological approach is flawed. I prefer “different”, to pose the question to informed parties, if you designed a government agency to delivery X to Y population with Z budget, how would you do that?I argue that debating the viable options alongside the current construct is the only roadmap to answering the question whether it is fit for purpose. At this juncture in FEMA within the current political and disaster climate, I know of no greater, more profound time to confirm that we have it right, or that there are adjustments.Do we have the leadership to consider options for trimming the tree and those for clear cutting the forest? Time will tell. The answer very well may be we have the most logical system now, but without a comparative analysis, that statement is unsubstantiated.Support the showwww.insidemycanoehead.ca

The COP Climate Summit has been branded "no longer fit for purpose" in an open letter to the United Nations. - KTT Iklim COP telah dicap "tidak lagi sesuai dengan tujuannya"
The COP Climate Summit has been branded "no longer fit for purpose" in an open letter to the United Nations. The letter, signed by a series of former diplomats and leading climate experts, calls for urgent reforms to the annual summit as progress towards emission targets slow down.
Futureproof Clare claims that the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP, has become a farce, citing that global emissions only having increased since its inception in 1995. The annual climate summit got underway this week with politicians, business leaders and campaigners from around the world gathering in the Azerbaijani capital Baku. The perceived hypocrisy of Baku's hosting of the conference has also been raised, with oil and gas exports accounting for almost half of Azerbaijan's state budget, with similar concerns raised when the UAE played host in 2023. Scariff-based Futureproof Clare spokesperson, Sinead Sheehan, believes that climate action groups have lost faith in COP's ability to tackle the climate crisis.

With Franco Colapinto and Ollie Bearman impressing on their Formula 1 outings this year, and Kimi Antonelli landing a place at Mercedes for 2024, the question of the relevance of Formula 2 has been talked about extensively in recent months. The Race F1 Podcast has now joined the discussion with an in-depth debate about not only F2, but the state of the whole junior ladder and whether the fact the drivers getting the best results in the primary feeder series are being overlooked is a problem. Nelson Valkenburg, who commentates on Formula 1 in the Netherlands and is steeped in junior single-seater racing itself, and Samarth Kanal join Edd Straw to give an overview of the landscape and explain what's working and what isn't. We start off with an explanation of why the mooted 'rookie race' won't happen at the Abu Dhabi test this year, but could take place next year, and look at the reasons for drivers ranked down the order in the F2 standings excelling in their F1 chances. We then attempt to define the problem, and propose potential solutions to ensure that the junior ladder remains healthy and fit for purpose. Want extra podcast content? The inimitable Annabel Crabb joins us for this special spotlight episode where we shine a light on the changing impact of journalism in a shifting media landscape. In a world where truth is increasingly contested, can the fourth estate still be trusted to deliver reliable information which brings us together into some sort of shared reality? Or has our trust in journalism been irrevocably broken by the ‘democratisation' of information - the relentless immediacy of self-selecting delivery platforms - as well as the unabating attacks of all political sides, who too often claim that it's just a front for power or an opinion, or even worse, a home for misinformation. How can we rebuild trust in the news, recognising its limitations while understanding its critical role in a well-functioning society? As to disagree productively, we need a shared reality as our foundation.Annabel CrabbAnnabel Crabb is an Australian political journalist, commentator and television host who is the ABC's chief online political writer. In the latest episode of Reimagining Cyber, Rob interviews Bindu Sundaresan, Director of Cybersecurity Solutions at Level Blue, about the evolution and significance of cyber resilience. Bindu, with over 20 years in cybersecurity, discusses how the field has shifted from a focus solely on prevention to a broader approach that includes resilience and recovery.Key points from the conversation:1. Historical Focus: Traditionally, cybersecurity strategies concentrated on preventing attacks. However, the current threat landscape necessitates a shift towards resilience, acknowledging that breaches are inevitable.2. Modern Approach: Organizations are now integrating business continuity planning and disaster recovery with cybersecurity efforts. This holistic approach ensures that operations can continue and recover swiftly after an attack.3. Business Alignment: Bindu emphasizes that cybersecurity should be seen not just as a technical issue but as a business problem affecting overall operations. This shift in perspective helps align cybersecurity efforts with business outcomes and improves the strategic value of cybersecurity roles.4. CISO's Role: For Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), successfully integrating resilience into their programs involves understanding and prioritizing risks based on business impact. This requires effective communication with other business units and aligning cybersecurity investments with broader business goals.5. Evolution of Cybersecurity: The conversation highlights the shift from compliance-driven approaches to risk-driven and resilience-focused strategies. This evolution is crucial for achieving digital resilience and 6. Identifying Sensitive Data: Organizations must first identify what constitutes sensitive data for their specific context, considering regulatory requirements, business use, and industry standards. Without this understanding, investments in data protection might be misallocated.7. Data Classification and Flow: It is crucial to classify sensitive data and map how it flows within and outside the organization. This helps in applying appropriate security controls and prevents unnecessary complexity and expense.8. Continuous Review: Data classification and protection are not one-time tasks. Organizations need to regularly update their data inventory and classification as their data environment evolves9. Incident Response and Resilience: Organizations should develop tiered recovery plans that prioritize critical business functions during incidents. Regularly updated tabletop exercises should simulate realistic and current scenarios to test response plans effectively.10.Cross-Functional Involvement: Effective incident response involves cross-functional teams, including IT, legal, PR, and executive leadership. Establishing what constitutes minimum viable operations helps prioritize recovery efforts and resource allocation during an incident.11.Evolving Practices: The goal is to continuously refine incident response and recovery practices to improve resilience over time. Embracing a lifecycle approach to security and resilience can turn digital resilience into a competitive advantage.Follow or subscribe to the show on your preferred podcast platform.Share the show with others in the cybersecurity world.Get in touch via reimaginingcyber@gmail.com

A member of the Clare Road Safety Working Group is claiming the Meelick Road in Ardnacrusha is "not fit for purpose". A motion has been submitted to Shannon Municipal District to install road markings and to explore the possibility of widening the public L3056 road in the south-east Clare village. Ardnacrusha Fianna Fáil Councillor Rachel Hartigan says many of these truck drivers are unfamiliar with the road which is causing delays and safety concerns amongst locals.

Sometimes it can be difficult to admit we are lonely. Experiencing loneliness from time to time is a normal part of life; but when loneliness is severe, or persists over an extended period, it can have a detrimental impact on our mental health. Some ways loneliness can be experienced are: emotional loneliness – a lack of emotional attachment to someone like a close friend or partner social loneliness – a lack of friends to go out with, or who share our hobbies or interests existential loneliness – a sense of being in a room of people you know and still feeling alone According to the World Health Organization, loneliness is a pressing global health threat, heightened by the pandemic. Research has shown that severe loneliness poses the same health risk as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. And the demographic most affected by loneliness is not (as you might assume) the elderly, but 16 to 24 year olds. We often discuss the emotional aspects of loneliness, such as feeling low, isolated or disconnected, but loneliness can also manifest through physical symptoms and affect our behaviour. For instance, you may get nervous about or avoid going to social events, change your daily routines, like stop cooking for yourself, caring about your appearance or getting up early, or you may find it difficult to get to sleep or stay asleep. Dr Richard Pile is a GP specialising in lifestyle medicine and cardiology. Also an author, blogger, podcaster, mentor and coach, Dr Richard's TedX talk titled ‘The Dangers of Loneliness' offers an eye opening, research backed, insight into the physical and mental health consequences of prolonged loneliness. Talking to host Gabby, Dr Richard defines loneliness, the causes and effects. The ‘Fit For Purpose' author also discusses what signs to look out for, both within ourselves, and in others, that may indicate we are chronically lonely. Then he suggests practical steps towards forming new connections and reducing isolation. Dr Richard stresses why nurturing the relationships and connections we already have is so important, and shares some ideas about how we might go on to find more people who are like-minded within our local community. Gabby and Dr Richard discuss the role loneliness plays in our mental health and how the two are so interlinked. Dr Richard also explains how finding purpose in our lives is a great antidote to feeling lonely and where to find our nearest 'social prescribers'. Banks will forever consider the diverse needs of their retail and commercial customers. But does that always extend to the digital banking platform they offer? While the functional complexities of a more extensive corporate solution may deem it unsuitable for small business usage, the deficiencies of a consumer offering for a business may not deliver the insights, efficiencies and benefits needed. In this episode, we explore why a one-size-fits-all approach is not likely to meet the distinct requirements of these customer segments.
