Do you want to know how I got started in wedding photography? How I met my husband? How I found my clients in the early days? OR how I turn failures into success? Welp, then this is the podcast episode for YOU. Just a fun, short episode to kick of 2021 and hopefully we get to know each other better.
Today is special because I have some of my favorite humans EVER on the podcast and the only wedding planners I will work with on a styled shoot. Christine Thomas, Kelsey Ogenia and Dana Johnson are a trio of best friends who have 9-5 jobs that they love and together on the side create events that are truly expressive of their clients. I was first introduced to the genius of this trip in 2018 when we collaborated on creating a styled shoot. And not only did I get a glimpse into the beauty and fun of their creative brains but I also experienced their grace and love when I had to back out of photographing the shoot when my cousin passed away of Pancreatic cancer just 6 weeks after her diagnosis. Jade and Joy are the best in the business especially if you want to have a lot of fun while planning your unique wedding. I so hope you enjoy this conversation as we laugh, exchange high school stories and also get really serious about social media burnout and how to start a business with your BFFs and stay BFFs. https://jadeandjoyevents.com/ https://www.instagram.com/jadejoyevents/

I sat down with my business coach, D'Arcy Benincosa, to talk about breaking all the rules, manifestation, 2020, boundaries and so much more. I found D'Arcy back in 2018 when I invested in her Marketing Map course. I was so, so blown away by her wealth of knowledge and her serious talent for teaching and keeping me captivated through powerpoint slides. I knew one day I'd want to invest in private coaching with her and in 2020 - I DID IT. Coaching with D'Arcy didn't just change my business but it changed my life and opened up much in me that I could have never expected my life to grow in so many different beautiful directions this year. She was obviously on the very top of my podcast list and I'm so glad we got to record a conversation with her and chat about all my favorite stories about D'Arcy. If there is one pod to not miss IT IS THIS. Prepare for some life changing moments. For real.

This conversation with Rachel Greiman is such an important topic to me and I think so many of you will resonate with her. I kind of loved that right before our podcast interview, Rachel decided to sign off of Instagram because she found herself unhappy scrolling through the app and seeing what other people were up to. Obviously, I LOVE Instagram but it can be a difficult place sometimes for me too. Per usual, my conversation with Rachel went alllll over the place. We talked about her taking a break from Instagram, the insane state of postpartum care in our country and how slowing down actually helps you find clarity to grow faster. I really hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed making it. Rachel will definitely be back on again! Rachel Greiman is a copywriter and documentary family photographer in Philadelphia, PA. She owns Green Chair Stories, a company committed to taking photographs and writing words that look and sound like real people. She believes cookies are a perfectly acceptable breakfast food, as long as you eat some salad later. She lives with her giant dog (an 80-pound bernedoodle named Bernadette), her giant husband (a 6'6" man named Travis), and her currently little (but probably soon-to-be giant) babies in a townhouse in the city.
This conversation with Carlene Thomas, RD goes in all different directions and I loved it. Carlene is a dietitian nutritionist who also owns and runs a content creation studio with a specialty for food and wellness brands. She is a BOSS and I loved having conversations with Carlene because has a strict no bullshit tolerance. We talk about creating your own path, managing your expectations when things fall through, CBD, pregnancy and releasing guilt for being happy. Oh and Carlene tells me live, on air, that she's 7 months pregnant. Which was a super fun surprise. Don't miss this one peeps!! And don't forget to follow Carlene on Instagram here.
Casey talks with Marcia Hoffheins (yoga instructor, mother, mindset coach and more) about how all the little choices add up to the big result...success. I love talking with Marcia because she is never afraid "to go there" and she's always one of the first people to ask "can I help?" when she sees someone struggle. I love how we just let our conversation flow here and I just admire Marcia's raw honesty so, so much. Enjoy this one!
Just because you leave a toxic work culture, doesn't mean it leaves you. I learned this the hard way, over and over again before earlier this year when I said NO MORE. I see so many entrepreneurs working themselves to bone, pushing themselves straight toward burn out and while I don't know if burnout is avoidable, I do know that you can break your own toxic work patterns to start producing your best work and living your best life like RIGHT NOW. I'm so passionate about this subject because these patterns held me back from living my best life for too long and I really don't want that to happen to you. These are 5 toxic habits I've experienced and how I turn them around. Toxic Habit #1: You Value Money more than Time MANTRA: Saying no to more work is saying YES to myself. Toxic Habit #2: You Won't Outsource because it's something you're able to do MANTRA: Just because I can doesn't mean I have to. Toxic Habit #3: You Have No Boundaries MANTRA: Boundaries aren't for keeping things or people out, they are for keeping joy IN. Toxic Habit #4: You Don't Take Time Off. Or if you do, you feel guilty about it. MANTRA: Rest is productive. Toxic Habit #5: You Don't Set and Commit to Deadlines MANTRA: I trust myself to commit to living my best life.
Eden Strader is an international photographer and educator based in Los Angeles- she specializes in bold imagery for the modern romantic, and helping business owners find their artistic voice and create a business they love. I first found Eden, where else, on Instagram and when she announced her first workshop in March 2017 I booked it immediately. Her work was amazing to me then and she only gets more talented and aspirational by the second, really. On the flight home from Eden's workshop was when I made the decision to quit my 9-15 in three months time do the damn thing so you could say she's a dream maker? In this episode we talk about SO MUCH. We chat rejection, dealing with unhappy clients, asking for help and why happiness = success. Eden goes into her own journey to created a brand that is so unique and personal you can spot her work ANYWHERE and she gives some tips and advice on how to craft your own unique brand and artistic voice. We geek out over Untamed by Glennon Doyle and talk about why being selfish is actually a good thing unlike what we've been told our entire lives as women. I love talking with Eden so much. She's just such a wealth of knowledge and wisdom at such a young age. (Remember, I'm in my 30s people just in case you couldn't tell LOL) Enjoy this episode - it's so major.
I'm so excited to bring you this really fun, really informative quickie episode this week on rules I love breaking on Instagram. And really, I want to give you a peek inside how I approach using Instagram and why I love it so much and truly have fun on the platform. It's all about being really intentional in the ways you think about it and the ways you decide to market and engage with the platform. But FIRST let's talk about the Creative Course Bundle I'm participating in right now!! My Intentional Instagram Course, which is $127 on its own, is being offered in a bundle with 29 more guides and courses for just $97. YUP. $5,600 dollars worth of educational content available for just $97!! All the info is in the show notes, my blog post and in my Link in Bio. Don't miss this insane deal with other TOP notch educators like D'Arcy Benincosa (who I paid $10 for private coaching with this year!) and Eden Strader who I've spent literal thousands on her education over the years - they have courses in there too! BUY THE COURSE BUNDLE FOR JUST $97!!! Let go of the “perfect” feed. I just bought this print “everything is beautiful, nothing is perfect” and I want you to apply this. Here's why perfect feeds don't matter: Perfect feeds get you a follow at best. Perfect feeds don't convert customers Connection in captions converts customers. Relationships convert. What should I focus on instead? Creating valuable content over “perfect” content. Here are some ideas If you're a photographer, write a value add caption about how clients can best prep for their session with you If you're a florist, write a value add caption that tells wedding couples what florals are in season when. This helps me because… Another tip I give my private coaching clients is to create a Google doc with “evergreen” Instagram Content to pull from every month. Some examples of evergreen content are: Your story. How did you get to where you are? Your why. Why did you start your business? Your process. What is your brand experience like? Your brand values? What is your business' purpose? TESTIMONIALS!! People love you and your biz - don't keep that to yourself! Don't start with an image. Start with your caption first. With my coaching clients, I find people waste so much time figuring out, “what time to post? How many times a week should I post? Am I shadowbanned….etc.” When instead of that, they could be using that time to create valuable and exciting content for Instagram. FORGET THE RULES, friends. JUST HAVE FUN. Your audience can tell if you're stressed while writing captions. Go in easy. Write captions that YOU enjoy and I bet your audience will too. What would be SO MUCH fun for you to create and share for IG? A self portrait series? Cool poems laid over images of flowers? Reels of your outfits? People want to connect with you on Instagram. And if you want to convert followers into paying clients, the most important thing you can do is create community and build relationships. That's what ultimately converts people into buying from you. Not you amount of followers Not the likes Not the perfect feed. People don't buy from companies, people buy from people. My engagement as far as likes go are at an all time low but my biz bank account is at an all time high. I'm connecting with the right people and not ALL the people and that's what counts guys! Screw the all might algorithm. My Intentional Instagram Course, which is $127 on its own, is being offered in a bundle with 29 more guides and courses for just $97. YUP. $5,600 dollars worth of educational content available for just $97!! All the info is in the show notes, my blog post and in my Link in Bio. Kimberly Rose Pendleton PhD is a sexual empowerment coach and expert on feminism, sexuality, sexual healing, and the #metoo movement. Kimberly believes in working to create a world where every woman's sexuality, spirituality, safety & security are prioritized. With courses, coaching & resources, Kimberly helps clients rewrite their stories and patterns with love, sex, relationships & confidence. Kim is the creator of UNCOVER which is a community for women who are brave, playful and longing for more. I actually first met Kim seemingly fitting, at a boudoir photoshoot while I was assisting another photographer and I've loved following her and her work. This was a fun episode and I really want to have Kim back on to talk through more empowerment topics. Email me if you have any topics you'd want discussed! Some of my favorite things we talked about was the importance of breaking the rules to be happy, the power in incorporating pleasure in our daily lives and Kim's take on self trust's key to confidence blew my MIND. I'm obsessed. We talked about Alison Armstrong's Understanding Women: Unlock the Mystery in this episode too which really helped me earlier this year understand how to get more in flow and embrace my feminine energy more. I'm also now obsessed with creating an altar for myself after seeing this post from Kim! Don't you just love the idea of creating a little corner of your room or your house that is all yours and for all the little things you love? All in the name of honoring yourself? I'm so ready to make one! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did making it!
What even is Public Relations? Scandals? Spinsters? Party people? Wizardry and magic spells? And why does it matter for small businesses? Let's discuss. What is public relations? PR is simply the public image and perception of your company, your “reputation” in more plain terms. It's an essential part of running a business that is totally separate from marketing and advertising. PR is the earned trust and likability from the public which is pretty important in any business but especially in the service industry. If you're a small biz owner like me, that likely means you have to be your own publicist. Lucky for me, I brought 7 years of PR expertise to entrepreneurship and lucky for you, I'm sharing my top PR strategies for small business right here in this podcast episode. In this episode I cover: Self Promotion Building a Powerful Network The Follow Up Creating Brand Ambassadors How to Handle Negative Reviews Send me your questions if you have them! Hit me up in the DMs (@caseycrowetaylor) or email me at caseycrowetaylor@gmail.com! Thanks so much for listening!
Taylor Torres is from Houston, TX and prides herself on knowing her way around Houston like the back of her hand, including all the best margarita and queso joints. Taylor started her photography business at 16 years old and now runs her marketing agency Chanel & Lee at just 24 years old. I first met Taylor when I hired her as my Virtual Assistant one year ago and I'm so excited to be working with her again for SEO and graphic design services. In fact, Taylor designed my amazing Dubsado proposal that currently has a 100% booking rate AND booking the upsell AKA the bigger package. So like maybe just hire her today? Taylor's story is really incredible and super inspiring. I think for anyone who finds themselves in a position where they feel like they are starting over in life, you will relate so much to Taylor's story. Taylor's work ethic is super inspiring and I have so loved seeing just how far she's come in one year - hint: it's super far. She is the QUEEN of client management systems, workflows and automation and I loved hearing all her tips and tricks.
This episode is full of warm sunshine, laughter and straight up wisdom, just how I like it. Rachel Larsen Weaver has many mic drop moments in her first (hopefully not last) appearance on the Rulebreaker Podcast. Rachel is a mother of 5 and an incredible photographer mostly serving Southern Maryland, and the Annapolis area but hit her up and she'll probably travel to wherever you are. Rachel is partial to messy hair, torn jeans and all signs of a life well lived. Rachel has a presence beyond her physical being that I've seldom experienced in my life and I'm telling you that even though we've never met in the flesh. I first came to know Rachel when I took the Now, Now class I never shut up about with her and Yan Palmer back in May. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed making it.
I love this conversation with Grace so much. She is just as down to earth as she is on Instagram. Grace and had babies days apart and I have so enjoyed connecting with her as we both navigated the first year of motherhood and business owners. Grace has a real talent for story telling and connection through authenticity and I actually asked her about her exact process in this interview which I think will really help people know how to navigate being vulnerable in a public space while staying real. We also talk failure (my most favorite topic) and how it's the biggest and best teacher. Really, learning to fail is just a muscle you need to build. The more things you fail at and survive, the easiest it becomes to leap when you really want to go for something.
Casey talks about why she created The Rulebreaker Podcast, what you can expect and the story of the first time she broke the rules with no regrets.
