Nandan Nayampally is an entrepreneurial executive with more than 25 years of success in building or growing technology businesses with industry-wide impact. He was at Arm for more than 15 years in a variety of product marketing and product management leadership roles, eventually becoming vice president and general manager of Arm's signature CPU group and the Client Line of Business where he identified key technology investments, developed a strategy and roadmap of products to deliver compelling, market-leading solutions for billions of SoCs, while establishing strategic partnerships and alliances. Nayampally comes to BrainChip from Amazon, where he helped accelerate the adoption of Alexa Voice and other multimodal services into third-party devices. BrainChip is the worldwide leader in edge AI on-chip processing and learning. The company's first-to-market neuromorphic processor, AkidaTM, mimics the human brain to analyze only essential sensor inputs at the point of acquisition, processing data with unparalleled efficiency, precision, and economy of energy. Keeping machine learning local to the chip, independent of the cloud, also dramatically reduces latency while improving privacy and data security. In enabling effective edge compute to be universally deployable across real world applications such as connected cars, consumer electronics, and industrial IoT, BrainChip is proving that on-chip AI, close to the sensor, is the future, for its customers' products, as well as the planet. FTC hits Amazon with $25 million fine for violating child privacy with Alexa voice assistant

Amazon agreed to pay a $25 million civil penalty to settle Federal Trade Commission allegations that it violated a child privacy law and deceived parents by keeping for years kids' voice and location data recorded by its popular Alexa voice assistant. The Alexa-related action orders Amazon to overhaul its data deletion practices and impose stricter, more transparent privacy measures. It also obliges the tech giant to delete certain data collected by its internet-connected digital assistant, which people use for everything from checking the weather to playing games and queueing up music. “Amazon's history of misleading parents, keeping children's recordings indefinitely, and flouting parents' deletion requests violated COPPA (the Child Online Privacy Protection Act) and sacrificed privacy for profits,” Samuel Levine, the FTC consumer protection chief, said in a statement. The 1998 law is designed to shield children from online harm. FTC Commissioner Alvaro Bedoya said in a statement that “when parents asked Amazon to delete their kids' Alexa voice data, the company did not delete all of it.” The agency ordered the company to delete inactive child accounts as well as certain voice and geolocation data. Amazon kept the kids' data to refine its voice recognition algorithm, the artificial intelligence behind Alexa, which powers Echo and other smart speakers, Bedoya said. The FTC complaint sends a message to all tech companies who are “sprinting to do the same” amid fierce competition in developing AI datasets, he added. Amazon said last month that it has sold more than a half-billion Alexa-enabled devices globally and that use of the service increased 35% last year. Amazon said it disagreed with the FTC's claims on Alexa and denied violating the law. But it said the settlements “put these matters behind us.” “Our devices and services are built to protect customers' privacy, and to provide customers with control over their experience,” the Seattle-based company said. In addition to the fine in the Alexa case, the proposed order prohibits Amazon from using deleted geolocation and voice information to create or improve any data product. The order also requires Amazon to create a privacy program for its use of geolocation information. The proposed orders must be approved by federal judges. Looking back into when the internet was introduced to us back in the late 80's and were surprised about this great new innovative idea. Just like most things the movies always introduced us to the mainframe computers with a room full of computer component parts that was created as a brain back then. Moving things fast forward to the present we are now presented with the same new innovative idea now brought the level that they have been intending this whole time. We can pretend we didn't see this coming. It's here..! Do you remember when you wished there was a way to use your voice to do what need to do without actually doing it yourself. The idea of Artificial Intelligence was thought of years ago. It is only recently that they have decided to do the full push towards the consumers. Chris Gotti and Don Dinero sit down to talk about how artificial intelligence is actively here now and the presence of it having been around all along. Using Artificial Intelligence They begin by talking to an artificial intelligence Open.AI to challenge the system some questions. Like can you teach me how to be a doctor? Hello everyone! Welcome back to our channel. And for today we are gonna TALK ABOUT amazonAmazon has updated its Alexa voice assistant after it "challenged" a 10-year-old girl to touch a coin to the prongs of a half-inserted plug. The suggestion came after the girl asked Alexa for a "challenge to do"."Plug in a phone charger about halfway into a wall outlet, then touch a penny to the exposed prongs," the smart speaker said.Amazon said it fixed the error as soon as the company became aware of it.The girl's mother, Kristin Livdahl, described the incident on Twitter. She said: "We were doing some physical challenges, like laying down and rolling over holding a shoe on your foot, from a [physical education] teacher on YouTube earlier. Bad weather outside. She just wanted another one."That's when the Echo speaker suggested partaking in the challenge that it had "found on the web".The dangerous activity, known as "the penny challenge", began circulating on TikTok and other social media websites about a year ago.Metals conduct electricity and inserting them into live electrical sockets can cause electric shocks, fires and other damage."I know you can lose fingers, hands, arms," Michael Clusker, station manager at Carlisle East fire station, told The Press newspaper in Yorkshire in 2020."The outcome from this is that someone will get seriously hurt."Fire officials in the US have also spoken out against the so-called challenge.Ms Livdahl tweeted that she intervened, yelling: "No, Alexa, no!"However, she said her daughter was "too smart to do something like that".Amazon told the BBC in a statement that it had updated Alexa to prevent the assistant from recommending such activity in the future."Customer trust is at the centre of everything we do and Alexa is designed to provide accurate, relevant, and helpful information to customers," said Amazon in a statement."As soon as we became aware of this error, we took swift action to fix it."

In this episode of WRLWND Radio, Marcello Sukhdeo talks about the rapid growth of voice-powered apps on Amazon’s Alexa voice platform, also, a study that reveals that extreme internet usage can lead to mental illness and he touches on the growth of video-gamers worldwide.   Show Notes: Amazon’s Alexa Amazon’s Alexa voice platform has now passed 15,000 skills, these are the voice-powered apps. This is up from last September when it was around 10,000. Today, Amazon is currently the leader in voice-powered devices and it is expected to control 70 percent of the market this year — well ahead of Google Home, Lenovo, LG and others. Due to the increased interest in voice-powered devices, Apple has joined the party with the with its own Siri-powered device, the HomePod which will be released this December.  In terms of competition, Google Home has just 378 voice apps available as of June 30, and Microsoft’s Cortana has only 65. So, they are way behind. Internet usage can lead to mental illness More than one-third of 15-year-old children in the UK could be classified as ‘extreme internet users’, or those who are online for more than six hours daily, outside of school. A report from UK think-tank Education Policy Institute (EPI) states that children in the UK have a higher rate of extreme usage. EPI examined the relation between social media use including online time and mental illness. While 12 per cent of children who spend no time on social networking websites on a normal school day have symptoms of mental ill health, that figure rises to 27 per cent for those who are on the sites for three or more hours a day. The study went on to say that they would caution against simply restricting a child’s access, claiming that this could actually hurt kids in the long run by preventing them from learning the skills they needed to cope with stressful events online.   Video-gamers growing worldwide Nearly a third of the earth’s population is an active video-gamer, and that number will only grow, according to a study commissioned by Razer, the maker of high-end mice and other gaming accessories. According to the study, in 2016, 2.1 billion people were “active gamers”. An active gamer is defined as someone who plays a game once a month or spends at least an hour a week playing.  Of the 2.1 billion people, over 71 per cent are millennials. This group according to the study is not only huge, but also young, which is a dream demographic for a company looking for growth in this area. Tech Bytes Students from the Eindhoven University of Technology have designed the first ever system that allows a bus to drive on formic acid. Formic acid naturally occurs in stinging nettles and certain species of ants, but it's also manufactured cheaply and safely on an industrial level, and is typically used for preserving livestock feed. The students use a blend of 99 per cent formic acid with a performance enhancing agent to create Hydrozine -- which has four times as much energy density as a battery -- to power the bus. This is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year. Researchers at Anglia Ruskin University put a mobile eye tracker and motion analysis sensors on participants who walked and crossed a kerb-like obstacle on the ground while writing, reading a text or talking on a phone. According to results, phone users spend up to 61 percent less time watching out for the obstacle, and bring their foot up "higher and slower" over the obstacle as they walked, adopting a "cautious and exaggerated stepping strategy" to minimise the risk of tripping. This tendency was observed most in users writing a text on their phones. Smartphone zombies are becoming a road hazard in cities around the world and efforts have been put in place to keep them and others safe. And finally, A battery-powered plane that can fly for 30 minutes has taken to the skies at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The "eFusion" has been developed by German engineering firm Siemens, and can reach a top speed of 140mph (225km/h).
