For years, experts have been perfecting sophisticated technologies that could virtually end impaired driving on U.S. roads — and thanks to a new bill, regulators are already exploring making it a requirement on all new cars. But will Washington take that historic step in the next two years, as advocates hope, or will the legislation get tied up in the misinformation campaigns that have plagued these life-saving ideas so far? Today on The Brake, we're talking to someone for whom passing the fight to stop drunk driving before it starts is uniquely personal: Rana Abbas Taylor, who endured the unimaginable in 2019 when her sister, brother in law, and the couple's three children were all killed by a heavily intoxicated driver in a single horrific car crash. Now, the Honoring the Abbas Family Legacy to Terminate Drunk Driving (HALT) Act could prevent tragedies like theirs— but it needs your help to pass. Listen in, and learn more about how to support the mandate here.

Public transit is a vital part of everyday life for communities across the country, providing millions of Americans with access to jobs, health care, groceries, education, and other essentials. Transit is the backbone of the mobility ecosystem for many urbanized areas, and is a transportation lifeline in communities across the country—yet 45% of Americans do not have access to transit. Innovative public-private partnerships are beginning to reveal a range of use cases where autonomous vehicles (AVs) can augment existing transit networks. In recent years, transit agencies and AV developers have collaborated on pilot projects to explore how AVs can enhance mobility options for transit users. Incorporating AVs into public transit can help to connect riders to more transit routes and destinations with right-sized vehicles that can increase efficiency. In order to maximize the benefits of autonomy, we must also consider how to effectively introduce AVs alongside existing mobility options, prioritize accessibility for people with disabilities and older adults, and educate riders on how to interact with these new services.Panelists:Allanté Whitmore, Director, Autonomous Vehicle Initiative, Securing America's Future Energy (SAFE)Daisy Wall, Director of Government Business, May Mobility

#EasyMile is a pioneer in connected vehicles space with award winning driverless technology and with operations in 40+ countries. Cloud is critical for these technologies to work and having a reliable, low latency network is essential. For early adopters, cloud expect customers to fail fast as picking the right tool and platform is directly tied to agility and exponential business benefits. In this episode, we get together with Razvan Matei , an early adopters in cloud and currently working as DevSecOps lead @ EasyMile Cloud R&D group. Razvan shared his cloud journey, lessons learned and insights that connected technology customers must consider. Some key points: - Data is the new oil and for connected objects technology, a reliable, low latency network is essential. -Networking in cloud is like water pipes in a house, that when it breaks all hell break lose directly impacting safety, security, obstacle detection etc. - How having a unified, coherent, consistent and secure global transit with Aviatrix helped open up new business opportunities and relieved the burden on cloud teams letting them focus on core business. -Point of presence closest to vehicles is extremely important and no matter how ubiquitous or better one cloud is, customer expects vendors to make their offering available everywhere for performance and data sovereignty reasons and hence multi-cloud is a must have architecture for businesses. -Lastly, every cloud is built different in functionality and semantics are different which no cloud team can handle so abstraction and uniformity that Aviatrix provides is absolutely essential. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/netjoints/message
