Jérôme Colin et Miguel Allo traversent les États-Unis d'Est en Ouest. De New York à Los Angeles. John Kennedy Toole's novel A Confederacy of Dunces is internationally revered for having captured the essence and eccentricity of New Orleans — and for introducing readers to its larger-than-life protagonist, Ignatius J. Reilly. On this week's show, we take a culinary look between the pages of the book that was posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1981. We begin with Spud McConnell, well known for his portrayal of Ignatius on stage. The Gonzales-born actor has become so recognized for his embodiment of the role, that the statue of the portly protagonist, which is located on a sidewalk in front of the old D.H. Holmes building on Canal Street, was modeled after him. Then, we speak with Cynthia LeJeune Nobles, who examined food as a character in the novel, compiling recipes for her gastronomical homage to Ignatius, A Confederacy of Dunces Cookbook. Cynthia spent 18 months engrossed in the novel, and like Spud, developed a personal relationship with Ignatius and his world — jelly doughnuts and all. From there, we venture through the streets of the French Quarter to a Lucky Dog hot dog cart, which served as the setting for one of the most memorable — and gluttonous — moments in the novel. Lucky Dog's owner, Jerry Strahan, is the author of Managing Ignatius: The Lunacy of Lucky Dogs and Life in the Quarter. He discusses his iconic business and its legendary employees. Finally, we wash it all down with Ignatius's favorite local soft drink: Dr. Nut. Having disappeared from grocery shelves decades ago, the beverage is as enigmatic as Ignatius himself. Designer Phillip Collier, the author of Making New Orleans, sheds some light on the mysterious Dr. Nut and provides us with an alcoholic version that he believes closely resembles the original recipe. EPISODE #1094 HISTORICAL RABBIT HOLES PT. 1 Richard welcomes historian, author Donald Jeffries who takes another deep dive down the historical rabbit holes with American Memory Hole: How the Court Historians Promote Disinformation. You will discover how cancel culture was born during the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt. And how U.S. interventionist foreign policy was established during the Woodrow Wilson presidency. Jeffries documents the tragically common atrocities committed by US troops, beginning with the Mexican-American War, which became official policy under the “total war” and “scorched earth” strategy of Abraham Lincoln's bloodthirsty generals. He recounts the shocking abuses of our military forces, in countries like Mexico, Haiti, the Philippines, and elsewhere. GUEST: Donald Jeffries has been a JFK assassination researcher since the mid-1970s. His first novel, "The Unreals," was published in 2007. His first nonfiction book, "Hidden History: An Expose of Modern Crimes, Conspiracies, and Cover-Ups in American Politics," was released by Skyhorse Publishing in November 2014 and quickly became a best-seller. The paperback edition featured a new Foreword from Roger Stone. His writing has been compared to Voltaire by award-winning author Alexander Theroux, and likened to Rudyard Kipling and John Kennedy Toole's "A Confederacy of Dunces" by "Night at the Museum" screenwriter Robert Ben Garant. Jeffries' second nonfiction book, "Survival of the Richest" was released to universal critical acclaim in July 2017. His next book, "Crimes and Cover Ups in American Politics: 1776-1963" will be released in May 2019. ⏲MARCAS DE TIEMPO: ▶️00:09 - Intro a escritores ignorados ▶️01:36 - Caso Kafka y Emily Dickinson ▶️03:18 - Sobre John Kennedy Thull ▶️04:54 - Federico García Lorca destacado ▶️06:28 - Importancia del contexto histórico

Is it possible to choose only the best books to read?In April 2023 we reviewed 5 books on this channel. For some crazy reason both Juan and I just read bangers this month. It could be somewhat predicted as I revisited two authors who are probably in my top 10 writers. Juan was also reading to prepare himself for his baby girl so was also focused intently on trying to get good information.A big thanks to Alwin from Conshax for supporting. American Literature Snap Shot Series Ch.1 Only…10th Grade Class Discussion Guide
When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him.'A Confederacy Of Dunces' by John Kennedy Toole is a picaresque novel of a fat delusional man named Ignatius J. Reilly. He is a bombastic rogue living in a corrupt world and is forced to get a job by his domineering mother. His interactions with other zany characters progressively decline and become more and more outlandish.I summarised the book as follows. "Only a dunce would NOT find this funny. I only covered a couple of the anecdotes of the wonderful mishaps of Ignatius as they are numerous. Certainly is the type of person who is more fun in print than in real life. It lacks the deep cutting drive of something like Catch-22 but if you want a laugh I'd recommend this"I hope you have a fantastic day wherever you are in the world. our louisiana module comes to a close with its third and final book: a confederacy of dunces by john kennedy toole. before we discuss the book, we learn about tulsa as "a state of mind" and finally unveil why original host bobby left the show. we discuss the interconnectedness to other books this module, whether or not we know any ingatius j. reilly types in real life, and whether it feels more or less new orleans and louisiana than the other books in this module. we wonder whether the new orleans accent truly sounds like a new jersey accent. tulsa offers joey a gross gift. we look ahead to future states, perspectives, and field trips. we share an important real-life food update, discuss "the valve" and dollar hot dog nights, and whine about the terrible kindle experience for this book. reading list for season four the moviegoer by walker percy all the king's men by robert penn warren a confederacy of dunces by john kennedy toole

The boys (sans Friedrich) wrap Season 3 by talking about the perfect capstone book: John Kennedy Toole's A Confederacy of Dunces. They take one last gander at form (picaresque? satire?), discuss Fortuna's wheel, and think through what it means to be a political and artistic outsider in the vein of Ignatius J. Reilly. They also talk localism and other weird political alignments that defy the usual American dichotomies. Theme Music: "Shostakovich," by Mucca Pazza

483. We talk to Tison Pugh about his Confederacy of Dunces article entitled, "Systemic Racism, Queer White Privilege, and the Carnivalesque Humor of John Kennedy Toole's A Confederacy of Dunces." "In the disparate circumstances facing his primary Black character, Burma Jones, and his primary gay White male character, Dorian Greene, Toole contrasts the imprisoning effects of systemic racism to the liberating pleasures of queer White privilege. Although humorists need not shy away from treating serious subjects irreverently, it is nonetheless instructive for readers to consider the variability of their efforts and the ways in which satiric impulses shift in light of the situations depicted. Toole's carnivalesque tropes, as they intersect with issues of race and homosexuality, expose the contrasting ways in which systemic racism and systemic heterosexism function within a primarily comic world, as well as their lasting repercussions both on his characters and on the wider culture." Fives Guys. A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole (1980) vs Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice (1976).
FINGERSMITH by Sarah Waters & A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES by John Kennedy Toole. This week, Toby takes a twisty ride with queer Victorian tricksters in Sarah Waters' astounding FINGERSMITH. Then, Bailey travels to the Big Easy with Ignatius J. Reilly, a bombastic character she won't soon forget. Plus, the hosts test how many times they can say "jambalaya" in one episode. Answer: more than necessary!
