Anglicare SA has over 1500 staff and 1000 volunteers with an annual budget of approximately $100 million and works in the areas of aged care, families, vulnerable people and communities, housing, and economic participation. Now an ordained Priest in the Anglican Church, Dr. Arnold ministers out of St Peter's Cathedral, with a special focus on ministry to the city of Adelaide and on encouraging dialogue on public issues from Christian perspectives.Lynn is the National Co-Chair for Anti-Poverty Week, a member of Anglicare Australia Council, Chair Trustees, Don Dunstan Foundation and one of three South Australian Reconciliation Ambassadors. The Prime Minister of Samoa has confirmed her government is looking at halting the open recruitment process for RSE workers. In her address to horticulture industry leaders in Hawke's Bay, Fiame Naomi Mata'afa made it clear that Samoa's government wants to raise the quality of the RSE scheme and strengthen it. And the Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has met with her counterpart, Nanaia Mahuta in Wellington. She has criticised the Coalition for failing to intervene to stop the Solomon Islands - China deal.

It was a delicate dance as New Zealand and Australia's foreign ministers fielded media questions following their first face-to-face meeting since Covid-19. The pair collectively described the relationship between the two countries as " very special", "warm and close", despite in recent times being at odds over a number of issues. Senator Marise Payne and Nanaia Mahuta discussed everything from so-called 501 deportees being sent back to NZ, and the fate of mother of two Suhayra Aden, who is suspected of having links to ISIS and is currently in Turkey. Australia has cancelled her citizenship, leaving NZ responsible for her. As well as that, the 'dragon' in the room is China. Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta talks to Lisa Owen.

It has become conventional wisdom in Washington that despite entrenched political polarisation, a tougher stance on China is bipartisan. But with only two months until the Biden administration begins, will this be proven correct? Bethany Allen-Ebrahimian covers Beijing's influence and intentions and writes the weekly Axios China newsletter. Based in Washington, DC, she was also the lead writer of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists report known as the "China Cables", which detailed classified Chinese government documents revealing the inner workings of China’s detention camps in Xinjiang. Bethany was previously a national security reporter for The Daily Beast and an editor and reporter for Foreign Policy magazine. She was an Arthur F. Burns Fellow in Berlin and was previously a Jefferson Fellow at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. She previously spent four years in China. Allen-Ebrahimian holds an MA in East Asian studies from Yale University, as well as a graduate certificate from the Johns Hopkins-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies. Dr John Lee is an Adjunct Professor and Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the United States Studies Centre. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute in Washington DC. From 2016-2018, he was senior adviser to the Australian Foreign Minister, the lead ministerial adviser for the 2017 Foreign Policy White Paper, and her principal adviser on Indo-Pacific strategic affairs in the lead-up to the reinstitution of the Quad in 2017.

Australian Foreign and Women's Affairs Minister Senator Maurice Payne recently visited Bangladesh on a three-day tour. This is the visit of an Australian Foreign Minister to Bangladesh in the last 21 years. During her stay in Bangladesh, she visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar. A former advisor to a US Secretary of State and a former advisor to an Australian Foreign Minister have joined forces on a new report reevaluating the future of the US-Australia alliance amidst rising tensions with China. They join the podcast to discuss their findings and evaluate the positions of 2020 Democratic candidates on US-China relations.

The Australian Foreign Minister, Marise Payne, is currently meeting with Thai officials in Bangkok, advocating for the release of detained Bahraini footballer Hakim al Araibi, who holds official refugee status in Australia. Al Araibi was one of 150 athletes allegedly detained in Bahrain following the Arab Spring in 2011. If not incarcerated and allegedly tortured at that time, Al Araibi would most likely be playing in his national team tonight, in its Asian Cup clash with Thailand. Football's governing body in Australia, the FFA , has called for his release before, and overnight the world governing body FIFA issued a second statement calling for Hakim's immediate return to Australia. Absent in any of the discussions has been the Asian Football Confederation whose president is Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, a member of the Bahraini royal family. Sheikh Salman is a FIFA vice president. He ran as a candidate for the presidency of the world body in 2016. At that time the player, Hakim, who was living in Australia, called for an investigation into the role the Sheikh had played in the jailing and torture of Bahraini athletes who protested his family's rule during the Arab Spring. It is this complicated geopolitical web Australia's Foreign Minister is now trying to extricate Hakim from. Author of The Turbulent World of Middle East Soccer and host of the podcast by the same name, Dr James M Dorsey is also senior fellow at the Rajaratnam school of International Studies, Nanyang University, Singapore.

Bob Carr at 15 knew he wanted to make a name for himself, he knew he wanted to be a politician. He puts forward the notion that "to succeed you must be loyal to the nightmare of your choices" and for him it has obviously paid off - big time! Bob gave politics a good run and he won. For Bob, setbacks became an invitation to do more, it served as a drive to put in more effort. The Vedas have taught me that one must do their work with courageous and positive energy (shakti) no matter how trivial, for the outcome does not matter anywhere near as much as the doing. To die doing your your duty and to advance your purpose in life, no matter how unwell you do it, is to have lived, working on someone else's purpose no matter how well you do, is death."If only then I know what I know now" - Bob Carr.One of the beautiful things about life is making mistakes. Learning from a mistake, rather than being consumed by it. But you have to be able to look at yourself and be prepared to have a hard talk to yourself, smack yourself if you must so the mistakes are not repeated over and over. You must be prepared to rewire yourself to do things the right way. For anything else is insanity that will bring about a self-defeating mindset which will punish you over and over again. Rise Warrior.Bob found it is easy to do the pressing stuff that forms the norm of everyday work, what he found hard is meditation. Bob believes in the notion of continuous learning, hence his desire to learn meditation.  We talk about what makes a good leader. This man should know, he started from humble beginnings and went on to shape not only State politics as the longest serving NSW Premier but also held the role of Australian Foreign Minister.  Like him or not, all leaders need to pay attention to Bob, especially those aspiring to lead masses of people. Life is a learning experience. Leaders ought to see their life as a trajectory of learning. The challenge of walking into a room and becoming interested in other people - it's easy when you have an approach where you feel that from each person you meet your can learn something. It makes life interesting as you become interested in others. Bob believes and I agree, that people who are defeated by life are people who are not passionate about learning.Fear of Failure is what made this public leader demand more from himself.At a time of an election, Bob was being said to quite possibly become the best Premier we never had. Experts said he would never win. He was behind in polls and written off. At this point in life he made a decision the bulk of the world will fail at; to acknowledge the current unfavourable situation and still give it your best! He simply said to himself that "Should I be defeated I want it to be said that I could not have done any more." Bob says that it is wise to accept when you are in a hell of a position and come out fighting as a warrior." Rise Warrior Rise.Virtuous men and women manifest greatness, in themselves and those their presence touches. Listen up leaders, board members as you shape your organisation culture and your individual Self. There is always a winner and loser in battle. Bob's world is straight forward, every election has a winner and a loser. If you don't achieve your goal, make a virtue of not getting bitter. If you do win, aspire to be kind. A single good deed could be enough to find you the path to heaven and a single act of bitterness or cheating could drive your reputation and company into hell.Bob has one regret - you will too if you do not learn to meditate properly. Learn from an authentic master. Bob is leaning the art of meditation as he feels that "it is an investment that makes me a better person." Bob finds it the hardest discipline to master. I showered him a couple of tips that i so often coach those who are ready to go beyond to their core of happiness. We talk about the process and I enjoyed giving a little coaching to Bob on this most important of disciplines. The earlier in life you recognise that there are four states of consciousness, the faster you will discover the art to fill the void of your soul. The key take out is it takes practice to make your mind your best friend, if you do not do so, you will never be a great leader of people or yourself as your mind will no doubt act as your worst enemy and take you to places you do not want to go. Gareth Evans explains why mass atrocities continue to go unchecked and how the emergence of new international norms, such as the Responsibility to Protect, can guard citizens from falling victim to mass crimes. A former Australian Foreign Minister and leading international advocate in conflict prevention and resolution, Evans co-chaired the international commission that initiated the Responsibility to Protect idea in 2001.
