Hugs and Love!
Greetings, Gamers! This week we have a very special episode, co-hosted by our first intercontinental guest: Lee Tyrrell, the UK-based creator of The Sound Test podcast, where for over three years, Lee has hosted live VGM celebrations on YouTube and interviewed renowned composers, including the subject of today's show: legendary musician and SID chip composer Ben Daglish. Lee has curated a playlist designed to celebrate Daglish's life and work, and we really think you're going to enjoy this week's helping of Very Good Music. VGMVGM hasn't explored the SID very much, so this deep dive is long overdue. It barely scratches the surface of this huge, historic part of the VGM landscape, so we encourage you to go on a deep dive of your own into the wonderful world of the C64 SID and its successors. Thanks as always to our amazing patrons and the artists who made our show art and theme song. You, too, can become a patron at patreon.com/vgmvgm, and you can reach out to us one of these ways: Discord: https://discord.gg/qpbXPdCf2N Twitter: @VGMpod and @Shootkapow E-mail: verygoodmusicvgm@gmail.com Voicemail: Anchor.com/vgmvgm.

Before today's flood of triple-A console games, way back in the 80s, the [Commodore 64](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_64) ruled the roost. The most popular home computer in the western world, the C64 became synonymous with homespun programming and the birth of video games as we know them. Then, original soundtracks for video games were forced to use a mere three channels, and were unable to record any real instrumentation. Despite these limitations, musicians like [Rob Hubbard](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Hubbard) and [Ben Daglish](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Daglish) coded expansive themes that remain beloved today. This episode features both, for a lengthy conversation about the creation of VGM on the C64's lauded SID chip. I hope it does Ben's legacy justice — he sadly passed away during production, and this episode is dedicated to his memory. Tribute to Commodore legend Ben Daglish (31 July 1966 – 1 October 2018). Ben was an English composer and musician. Born in London, his parents moved to Sheffield when he was one year old. He was known for creating many soundtracks for home computer games during the 1980s, including such as The Last Ninja,Trap, and Deflektor. Daglish teamed up with fellow C64 musician and prolific programmer Tony Crowther, forming W.E.M.U.S.I.C., which stood for "We Make Use of Sound in Computers" with contributors Inspirado Projecto Radio and Stefan (Computer Collection Vienna) and Alex

I had other plans. But I’m sure he did too. So, instead of celebrating 7 years of Commoflage, I am celebrating the music of Ben Daglish in this episode. Ben passed away on October 1st 2018 from lung cancer, and I personally hold him as one of the greatest SID composers of all time. Join […]

This episode of OMAHM was produced to celebrate 30 years of the Commodore 64! For this show I have selected my favourite symphonic remixes of classic C64 tunes. It includes stunning orchestral remixes of famous C64 themes by Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Ben Daglish, Richard Joseph and Peter Clarke etc. It also features a stunning symphonic remix of the theme from the 2012 Psytronik Software C64 game 'Soulless' by K8-bit.
Episode #147 - Last Ninja We have something exceedingly special for you in this podcast; a selection of the very best remixes of the wonderful music created by the total legends that are Ben Daglish, Anthony Lees, Matt Gray & Reyn Ouwehand for the Last Ninja series on the Commodore 64. I'm sure you many of you have fond memories of these classic titles (was it only me that found Last Ninja 2 so bloody hard hehe) and the wonderful music that accompanied them and if not, for gawds sake go and PLAY them! So don your ninja kegs, pull on your slippers, pick up your Ninjato and head down the park with this on your mp3 player and go do some serious Ninja'ing: I know I will! Mixing by Vincenzo, logo #147 by Grass, big thank you to ne7 and Pohar for their help.
AY-UP! It's The AY-3-8912 Show! Yep, the one man known as Kenz is back at his trusty mic to host an hour-long show devoted to the awesome chip-music from the mighty Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128 and Amstrad CPC computers. This show features classic game themes from 8-bit music legends including David Whittaker, Tim Follin, Ben Daglish, Jonathan Dunn and Rob Hubbard! As well as music from Speccy and Amstrad games the show also contains music from the new Pimp My Chips music disk along with a corking track from the brilliant AY-Riders + much more retro gaming fun!
The 5th One Man And His Mic show is now online and long last and this 'Spec-Tacular' show (gettit?) is dedicated to the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Speccy I've put together a 1 hour podcast which contains a selection of classic tunes from the 48K Speccy. If you think Spectrum music is just a load of beeps and squidgy noises then think again! The show contains some fantastic tunes from legendary game musicians including Martin Galway, David Whittaker and Ben Daglish. As well as music from the Speccy the show also contains remixes of Spectrum tunes (including an exclusive intro track by Tonka), music from the ZX Spectrum Orchestra and even remixes of Spectrum tunes done on other computers!
