Pixelated Audio is back from another VGMCon in Minnesota, this time about space! Joining Gene once again from last year are Pernell from Rhythm and Pixels and Carlos from Heroes Three! We did a similar panel last year; we take a broad theme and make it educational, and then use it as an excuse to cram in all sorts of VGM examples. We had some tech issues and lost some of the recording but we were able to rescue it with a more laid back "part 2" we recorded in the hotel room as a way to fill in gaps and riff for a while. Prepare for launch on this massive double episode clocking in at almost 2 hours! We discuss space, its influence on games and computing, and a wide range of games that have a direct or sometimes tenuous link to space. We've got a ton of music this episode so we hope you enjoy it. Pardon the noise in the background, it was the best we could do with a portable recorder. If you'd like to follow along with our slides that we used during the talk, feel free to click through. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 565 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Brian reveals a deep dark secret and will robots ever play the blues?Blake has an evil plan and the guys caution him against it and check his credentials for podcasting. Richard saw an ai powered robot on TV and it has scared him so the guys discuss it and Brian makes a confession. He also asks some questions about the future of humanity and Richard has a foolish plan. Richard and Blake have had some late night DAW issues which caused them much anguish and woe and swap tales. Richard also has stupid podcast jokes. Brian questions Blake about his DAW of choice and Richard has a new album to listen to which Brian is unimpressed with. There have been some major moves in the corporate world of music with Samsung buying a number of HI Fi brands and closer to home, Thomann appear to have bought Hughes and Kettner. Blake bursts a bubble when he reveals the source of a musical legend. The guys then talk about band load-outs and why modelling might be the future again. Brian then reveals one of his lifelong goals. Daleks, Oregon batteries, Mullets, Rob Hubbard, Clibbings, Logic JR, Richard Sounds...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/@chasingtonepodcastAwesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Contact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show

In this episode we take a departure from our usual format focusing on Evercade to interview Chris Smith, CTO of Retro Games Ltd, about the launch of 'The Spectrum' – a modern day recreation of the iconic ZX Spectrum from 1982. Chris is literally the man who wrote the book on the ZX Spectrum and is full of knowledge about the inner workings of the much-loved 80s home computer. So, it's no surprise that after the launch of reimagined versions of the C64, Amiga and Atari 400, we now have The Spectrum.  In this interview, Chris explains why they waited this long to tackle The Spectrum, described some of the challenges in the design and production, and given us a taste of his own home computer favourites.  If you're a proud new owner of The Spectrum, or just have an interest in home computer history, you'll love this episode.

This week we dive into the subject of sustainability in L&D, why it matters to absolutely everyone, and how L&Ders can impact the bigger needs of the business. Sustainability is not a simple decision to put on another round of face to face workshops or choose to move online. There is a lot more nuance to the situation which our guests Tess & Rob walk us through. Founders of award winning learning provider LAS and founders of the Green L&D community on LinkedIn. Tess Robinson & Rob Hubbard are two brilliant brains who share some fantastic insights and experiences into how they create effective solutions to delivering what is needed and not just what is requested. Hugs and Love!

From 2018 we present the first of our three-part series Ode to Joysticks. Sit back and enter a parallel universe of video games music from the chunky world of 8-bit tunes to the full studio cinematic scores that define the modern immersive gaming experience. Computer or Video games have been with us since the 70s, from their money gulping origins in the amusements arcade to the invasion of the home computer and the eating up our pocket money. What accompanied them was the most incredible inventive machine melodies, reveling in the limited channel and sounds. Pioneering composers and coders created tunes so annoying, so brilliant, so catchy, so avant-garde they're practically invented their own genre of music. On this first of three editions we attempt a rough history of video games music and try to unravel an 8-bit tune…with a professor, a doctor and one of the most legendary composers for the Commodore 64 - Professor James Newman, Dr Kenny McAlpine and Rob Hubbard. From the Archive sees us dig into our extensive contemporary and classical music and cinema podcast archive as we rediscover interviews and discussions with artists, with our long-standing producer and presenter, Ben Eshmade. On this podcast: TPUG presents: World of Commodore 2020: Chris Abbott (8-bit symphony), Chiron Bramberger, GEOS, recreating an 80s bedroom and printing off a Commodore 64, ICS64, 1980 music, slot machines , KIM-1, IBM Logic transistors, vacuum tube, ENIAC, UNIVAC core memory module... 11 AM Chris Abbott – 8-Bit Symphony First composing for SID in 1988, Chris Abbott has been at the heart of the SID remix scene for decades. On a two decades-long quest to realise proper John Williams-y orchestral versions of Commodore 64 music, he teamed up with legendary composer Rob Hubbard to make it happen. How does a three voice tune become an 80-piece orchestra epic? How on earth could we afford it? Is anyone interested? All these questions and more shall be answered, probably. This will be a prerecorded interview with live Q&A with Mr. Abbott afterwards. 12 PM Lunch and Shopping Break 1 PM Scott Hutter – What's New in GEOS Will go over some of the new happenings in the GEOS arena. Paul Murdaugh's updated GEOS reference documentation, a new desktop created in cc65, code decompile/reconstruction to source, new drivers, and other projects. 2 PM Douglas Compton – Commodore 128 – 80 Column Business Software The C128 is a misunderstood machine for sure. So many today just think it is useful for C64 mode and forget the large amount of productivity software that was available for it, especially in the gorgeous 80 column mode. From the Blue Falcon to Bowser's airships and everything between, this was a topic that could easily have several broadcasts dedicated to it.Outside of planes, trains and automobiles, I take a step back from many of the show's regular features this week. As we approach 2021, I'm thinking of several ways I can reshuffle the format of The Sound Test; with one key word in mind - simplify. From Live sound and national touring to theater sound to assisting and running sessions in LA recording studios to the scoring stage at Universal Studios. Getting lucky with a gig in Editorial, laying in backgrounds and sound effects for TV shows and movies. Developing custom sound design for the Weird Science TV series. Getting exposed to working in Dolby Surround and using that experience to transition to the SF Bay Area Film and Post world. Being warned how that was going to be very hard in the Bay Area. Seeking council from engineers working at The Saul Zaentz Film center. Getting introduced to Murray Allen, a Chicago Ad legend, president of AES and founder of The Recording Academy (The Grammys). Finding common ground with Murray that led to contract work with EA working on Wing Commander 3 and mixing on ADAT. Eventually being hired on the team with Don Veca, Rob Hubbard and other Game Audio industry legends. Going on to work on many sports titles. Figuring out the concepts of granular sound design for interactive sound. Meeting the memory challenges of early gaming consoles. Grinding 12 hour days, 80 hour weeks and building long lasting relationships. Going from twelve years at EA to Sony in 2006 to work on the Socom franchise on the PS2 console and becoming Audio Director for The Godfather Project. Building a twelve man audio team for an open world game. The importance of engineering support in the audio design process. Porting to the second generation XBox 360 with expanded memory and using the additional RAM to up-sample the effects for higher audio quality causing the game mix to sound off requiring each sound design event to be re-mixed. A deeper dive in mixing a game title. The many challenges of working on a "launch title". The need to be agile , working with multiple departments and meeting multiple deadlines and challenges. Supporting outside developers as a service team. Working on Sly Cooper with Greg Debearde and "becoming the audio team". Working on Uncharted and The Last of Us by supporting "The Santa Monica Team". Working with Dolby Pro Logic & Pro Logic 2 with EA sports out of Canada and then on the SSX Snow Boarding titles encoding four channel DTS for live, real time Quad mixing. Moving to a nice to have feature to a must have that enhances the experience and sales of the games. Detailed description of creating an immersive audio demo to compare three tools for immersive audio mixing: Dolby Atmos, FB 360 and Dear VR. Using the Dolby Atmos render to create a realtime Binaural mix. Differences in HRTF and headphones affecting the results of a mix. Check out the blog for more detailed info and all three Binaural mixes side by side: https://pyramind.com/mixing-a-track-on-dolby-atmos-facebook-360-and-dear-vr-comparison/ Opening Music Credit: LGTBLTS by Dylan Seligman from his soon to be released Game Music EP, Acronym.
