Einfach so. Business as usual und dennoch erwähnenswert. What if every trade show, manufacturing podcast, and business resource you needed was just a few clicks away? That's the vision behind The Home of MFG, a new online hub created by Chris Stevens—a manufacturing leader who got tired of fragmented information and decided to build a centralized, open-access platform for the industry. In this episode, we dig into Chris's journey from sweeping shop floors to launching an ambitious initiative aimed at organizing the chaos of manufacturing content. We talk candidly about how hard it's been to simply find the right events to attend or shows to listen to, and why the current landscape of Google searches and paywalls just isn't cutting it. Chris shares the origin story behind The Home of MFG, his growing database of over 40 podcasts and hundreds of events, and how he's turning feedback into new features, filters, and community-powered tools. From free templates to a future podcast of his own, Chris isn't just curating content—he's building a digital ecosystem that brings the manufacturing community together.

Drew Crowe shares his inspiring journey from a teenage felon to a leading manufacturing advocate and speaker to creating The New American Manufacturing Renaissance. Crowe stumbled into the metalworking industry by chance, finding a job at a machine shop that put him on a path to success that he never expected. He now travels the country inspiring the next generation to embrace modern manufacturing careers, emphasizing the limitless possibilities available. Crowe also discusses his work developing a workforce recruitment and retention app to help manufacturers connect with qualified candidates and support their career development. His story highlights the transformative power of manufacturing and the importance of investing in people to build a robust, diverse talent pipeline. Crowe also talks about his time as an instructor of advanced manufacturing technology at Ranken Technical College, how his "MFG" moniker came about, creating jewelry and grills, and the importance of true industry advocacy that goes beyond just talk and LinkedIn clout. And stay around for Dan's rendition of "Stick 'Em" by The Fat Boys. This episode was recorded at IMTS 2024 in Chicago. Email us at podcast@fmamfg.org with any comments, questions, or suggestions.
We want to hear from you! Send us a text message. In this episode, we're talking to you—educators and employers—about how to engage and inspire the next generation of manufacturing talent. Manufacturing doesn't just need workers; it needs what Drew Crowe calls “blue collar ballers”—young people who see the industry as more than a job, but a mission worth pursuing.Drew "The MFG" Crowe is making waves in the manufacturing world. With a fresh, modern perspective, he's bringing a whole new energy to the industry, inspiring young people to see manufacturing as the future. As someone with deep experience both in the classroom and on the shop floor, Drew knows how to connect with Gen Z through the platforms and language they understand. In this episode, he shares how you can meet young talent where they are, communicate the value of a manufacturing career, and keep them motivated for the long term.Drew also shares why retention starts with culture. You'll learn how to create an environment that not only attracts talent but keeps them around—by giving them real opportunities for growth and a sense of belonging in your organization. In this episode, you'll learn:Why your company culture might be the reason you can't find great workers, and how “hell week” could be driving them away.Is manufacturing's talent shortage because of an image problem, or a communication problem? How social media-savvy "screenagers" are learning advanced manufacturing faster than ever—and what you can do to meet them there.3 Big Takeaways:The key to attracting Gen Z is offering a mission, not just a job.Drew emphasizes that today's youth are looking for more than a paycheck—they want purpose and a role in something bigger. By framing manufacturing as a mission and showing young people how they can make a difference, employers can create a more engaged and motivated workforce.Retention, not attraction, is the real challenge in manufacturing today. While companies can bring in new talent, keeping them is another story. Drew explains that to retain workers, companies need to build a culture that invests in people's growth, ensuring they have the tools and motivation to stay in the industry.Communication is crucial in showing the value of manufacturing careers.Manufacturing doesn't just have an image problem—it has a communication problem. Employers and educators need to show students not only what manufacturing is, but why it matters and how they can play a part in its future.Resources:To learn more about Drew and The New American Manufacturing Renaissance, visit: drewcrowemfg.comThe Manufacturing Renaissance Starter Kit: Revolutionize Your Workforce (free ebook for manufacturers)The MFG Hustle: How To Become A Blue Collar Baller...Or Bosslady! Inspiring Champions in Advanced Manufacturing” challenges both the parent and child/student to discuss what is the best career and educational path for every young person based on: • the youth's passion and natural talents and interests • the youth's innate method of learning new information and concepts • the family's financial resources and ability to afford appropriate education • barriers of entry into traditional careers based on pool of applicants & required experience • potential paths of enlightenment through internships and/or apprenticeships This book is a two-cover book with both a Parent & Student Edition, 180 degrees apart. The two intended reader groups meet in the middle with both having questions to start the interactive dialog that is absent all to often in the family dynamic – what is the best educational and career choice for each child? This is also meant to warn young people of the student debt trap and maybe MFG careers can offer an alternative path.
