"You will only ever do anything in your whole life, ever, if you want to do it." says Ben Easter.Ever been caught in the trap of feeling unmotivated, pushing through tasks with sheer willpower? Ben and Paige Easter understand the struggle. In this episode, they challenge some of our beliefs about motivation and the art of getting things done. They explore motivation that stems from our genuine desires and interests. They question the heavy "should", "have to", and "need to" phrasing that often burdens our tasks, nudging listeners toward a more genuine approach: focusing on what genuinely excites us.They encourage a routine self-check-in, emphasizing the need to prioritize well-being and align with our core desires. By doing so, they suggest, we can sculpt a life more attuned to our values, one that is inherently more fulfilling.Key Takeaways:Motivation is not something that can be forced or summoned through willpower. It is important to connect with our intrinsic motivations and desires. The language of "should, have to, need to" is not useful and often creates resistance. Instead, focus on what you want and connect with your desires.Prioritization is key when feeling overwhelmed with tasks. Identify your big rocks and align your actions with your values and goals.Check in with the four physicals: sleep, nutrition, movement, and energetic cycles. Taking care of your physical well-being is essential for motivation and productivity.Practice connecting your desires with your actions. Ask yourself if there are alternative ways to fulfill your desires that align better with your preferences and values.Quotes:"The thing that I hear so frequently is like having trouble finding motivation." (1:41 | Ben)"I think motivation is a myth because we're all motivated to do things intrinsically." (2:31 | Ben) "I think the error in thinking here is that it comes down to willpower…willpower is not as useful as people tend to think." (03:09 | Paige)"People think the solution to this is better time management…if only I could figure out how to pack more into the day." (05:27 | Ben)"You will only ever do anything in your whole life ever if you want to do it." (15:40 | Ben)"Quit pretending that there's something else other than what you want." (19:54 | Ben)"Connect with your desire…focus your energy on that and continue to connect with it." (22:56 | Ben)"Can I think of any other way that I can get that experience without doing this thing that I don't want to do?" "Networking is not just about connecting with others, it's about finding a values-aligned community where you can thrive and grow together." says Ben Easter. In today's Shift to Freedom podcast episode, Ben and Paige Easter delve into the important topic of building community through networking. They tackle the pervasive sense of isolation that many entrepreneurs experience, especially common with founders and solopreneurs who suffer from the absence of a peer group in their businesses. The duo navigates the complexities of forging connections in our modern, ever-changing society while spotlighting the growing opportunities offered through online relationships. They also explore how to conquer hurdles like social anxiety and the fear of being turned down, emphasizing the importance of aligning with individuals who resonate with your fundamental beliefs. Ben and Paige share their own networking journeys and offer actionable advice, including leveraging meetups and tapping into networks that align with your passions. This episode will encourage you to take steps forward to build a broader base of support for your entrepreneurial journey.Key Takeaways:Building a network is important for overcoming the loneliness of owning a business and having peers to connect with.In today's world, networking can extend beyond geographical boundaries thanks to the internet, allowing for connections with people who share your values.Overcoming social anxiety is crucial for building a network, and it requires courage and a shift in mindset.Networking can be approached as simply connecting with humans and getting to know them, rather than focusing solely on sales or client acquisition. An ideal network is one that is values-aligned, where you can find support, collaboration, and mentorship from like-minded individuals.Quotes:"I think having a conversation about making it easier and more inevitable to build a network and a supportive group of peers and mentors and colleagues that you can talk to to help you feel more connected in the world is really useful." (01:37 | Ben)"All things being equal, people choose to do business with their friends. And then all things being unequal, people still choose to do business with their friends." (14:43 | Ben)"Finding places where people are congregating around some activity that you really enjoy is a great way to get yourself kicked off finding people in values alignment." Let go of fear and step into alignment with the wisdom of your Higher Self. In today's episode, co-host Clayton Olson returns for a conversation with Ben Easter about recognizing the difference between intuitive choice making and ego. Learn how to tune out insecurity and tune into wisdom, love, and connection. Being in touch with your true intuition allows for conscious decision making where your actions are aligned with your purpose and core values. A few tips to help guide your path to unveiling your Higher Self:Liberation exists on the other side of ego. Let go of the ego's need for control and transform your life with the freedom that comes from embracing uncertainty.Remember that insecurity can often mask itself as intuition. Ask yourself, what about this emotion or thought is important to you. What would love, connection, and wisdom do in this situation? If you are under-resourced, you may have a more difficult time accessing your intuition. Be sure to take care of yourself, get enough sleep, eat and hydrate before making any major decisions.Consider which path will result in putting more of your own values into the world around you. If the decision is coming from your Higher Self, it will inherently be in alignment with your core values. Freedom is waiting right on the other side of fear! Shift your mindset to recognize the difference between thoughts and feelings that are driven by insecurity and those that are truly coming from intuition. Quotes“Insecurity can pose as intuition.” (2:02-2:06 | Clayton)“It's not like the intuition writes you an email, and it's signed - your intuition. It's not that clear.” (7:34-7:41 | Ben) “Oftentimes, my intuition over time will continue to say the same message to me.” (9:48-9:54 | Clayton)“When I have excessive self referencing around a decision, it's often insecurity versus intuition.” (15:09-15:18 | Clayton)“Orienting to my higher self can oftentimes be a process of removing what's in the way versus actually adding something.” (26:13-26:23 | Clayton)“If I'm trying to control something, it's usually not my intuition. My intuition is usually going to have me continue to forge into the dark forest with a torch on an exploration versus trying to stay in the familiar.” (34:46-35:01 |Clayton)LinksConnect with Clayton:Website: https://claytonolsoncoaching.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtKW9swe4-j596iCIh2_nrA LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/claytonrolson/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/claytonolsoncoaching/Connect with Ben:Website: https://lucidshiftcoaching.com/Lucid Shift Coaching IG: https://www.instagram.com/lucid_shift_coaching/Project Candlelight: https://airtable.com/shr5p0P2793RtRk2kPodcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. Leave the people-pleasing tendencies in the past and step into a future where you live authentically for what matters most to you!Quotes“One of the ways that people can erode trust in themselves is by continually participating in boundary violations with themselves.” (1:45-1:53 | Clayton)“If you find yourself in a pattern of people pleasing, that is a really quick road to not trusting yourself, because it is a continual boundary violation where you're honoring other people over a deeper desire inside of you.” (2:36-2:53 | Clayton)“When we continually make decisions out of fear and let fear be the guiding catalyst to whatever it is that we're doing, that erodes self trust.” (4:02-4:13 | Clayton)“Which decision brings more of what you love into the world?” (9:25-9:29 | Ben)“The idea that you don't trust yourself is not just a thought, but it actually does generate a state of being that then informs your behaviors, and your emotions, and the way that you show up.” (12:23-12:36 | Clayton)“You have a lifetime full of evidence that says you'll survive everything that ever comes your way.” (14:00-14:05 | Ben) LinksConnect with Clayton:Website: https://claytonolsoncoaching.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtKW9swe4-j596iCIh2_nrA LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/claytonrolson/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/claytonolsoncoaching/Connect with Ben:Website: https://lucidshiftcoaching.com/Lucid Shift Coaching IG: https://www.instagram.com/lucid_shift_coaching/Project Candlelight: https://airtable.com/shr5p0P2793RtRk2kPodcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. The Buddha said that attachment is the root of all suffering. When you get too wrapped up in #perfectionism and #peoplepleasing due to your attachment to a certain outcome or a desire to maintain a certain identity, you are setting yourself up for potential suffering. You cannot control every outcome. And by being so caught up thinking about the future, you may miss out on all the good things around you in the present. Today, co-hosts Ben Easter and Clayton Olson discuss #detachment and how to overcome your #fearoffailure to let go of the fantasy of control. The truth is that you cannot know the future in advance, so there is no use being so attached to certain outcomes. Ben explains that if you think about life like a game, the whole purpose of a game is not necessarily to win but to learn how to win. The enjoyment comes from overcoming challenges and it would not be as fun if those challenges did not exist. Life is much the same way in that you will likely not feel as successful without having to first overcome challenges. Clayton shares that one of the main problems with getting hung up on certain outcomes is that it can cause tunnel vision and you may miss out on other opportunities as well as set yourself up for sadness when the outcome differs from your expectations.By embracing non-attachment, you open yourself up to feeling more gratitude in the present. Even situations that do not go the way you had hoped can still end up working in ways that lead you to your goal. You may not be able to control every outcome for your future, but you can control how you react and how you choose to feel about the outcome you do reach. Quotes“The Buddha says all life is suffering because of that attachment, because we're attached to either the things that we want or the things that we don't want.” (6:34-6:43 | Ben)“There's something really beautiful about having a challenge that is in your way to try to accomplish some goal. And I think thinking about life this way is really, really useful.” (10:11-10:21 | Ben)“Where did you learn this distortion that you need to do all these things in order to experience peace?” (21:57-22:02 | Clayton)“Begin to question the fantasy that you've created.” (34:42-34:45 | Clayton)LinksConnect with Clayton:Website: https://claytonolsoncoaching.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtKW9swe4-j596iCIh2_nrA LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/claytonrolson/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/claytonolsoncoaching/Connect with Ben:Website: https://lucidshiftcoaching.com/Lucid Shift Coaching IG: https://www.instagram.com/lucid_shift_coaching/Project Candlelight: https://airtable.com/shr5p0P2793RtRk2kPodcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. The #AIrevolution has been a major focus ever since the rise of Chat GPT. While some people are excited about #embracingthefuture, others are afraid of the #uncertainty that comes along with a rapidly #changingworld. Whether AI will lead to a beautiful utopia and ultimate freedom or a scary dystopian society like those in tv and movies is yet to be seen. Today, co-hosts Ben Easter and Clayton Olson discuss how to navigate the uncertainty of the AI Revolution.AI offers an incredible opportunity to rethink how you choose to engage with your reality. While you could choose to hand over all of your agency to an AI and allow your adult consciousness to atrophy, you could instead use AI to further your own advancement. Take the time to really consider what you would be doing if you did not have all the responsibilities that come along with adult life. If you no longer had to work, or if money was no longer an issue, what would you choose to do with your time? Even if some avenues do end up taken over by AI, others will now be more open to you than before.Ultimately, AI is here to stay and the technology will continue to improve at an incredible pace. It is up to you how you choose to engage with it and whether you choose to view it in a positive or negative light. Quotes“AI, in its essence, is power.” (7:57-7:59 | Clayton)“One of the benefits of this technology is that in many ways it can free you to begin to really ask the question, ‘If I didn't have to do these things in my life, what is it that I really want to be doing?'.” (9:17-9:29 | Clayton)“There's almost two ways that we can use AI. One way is to remove all obstacles and make everything easy. And the other way is to buttress, to build the structures around the challenge such that we stay consistently in that challenge.” (19:18-19:35 | Ben)“The more powerful a tool gets, the more capacity that tool has for either great harm or great benefit in the world.” (23:26-23:34 | Ben) LinksConnect with Clayton:Website: https://claytonolsoncoaching.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtKW9swe4-j596iCIh2_nrA LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/claytonrolson/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/claytonolsoncoaching/Connect with Ben:Website: https://lucidshiftcoaching.com/Lucid Shift Coaching IG: https://www.instagram.com/lucid_shift_coaching/Project Candlelight: https://airtable.com/shr5p0P2793RtRk2kPodcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. Having your own business opens up many opportunities for freedom in your life. Whether that be freedom to make your own schedule, financial freedom, or the freedom to pursue your passions. When you're first starting out with your business, or if you are considering scaling, there are ways to build #financialfreedom directly into your business model. Today, Natalie Cook, CEO of Copper8 Strategies, LLC, joins host Ben Easter to discuss how to simplify your business, how to scale, when to hire, and how to achieve financial freedom. It is important to determine your contribution margin analysis and then work backwards from there. Once you know how much money you need to spend to make each dollar, then you can use those numbers to make hiring decisions. Knowing your bottom line along with your overall business goal allows you to build that in from the beginning. When making hiring decisions, you can use these numbers to see how each hire will impact your bottom line. Consider bringing on a 1099 contractor at first to ensure the perfect fit for the position. If you are ready to start or scale your business, getting clear on the numbers will be a huge help to making smart decisions. When you know how much you need to make each month in order to cover your expenses and pay yourself market rate, then you can work backwards toward the ultimate goal of financial freedom.Quotes“You should think about a financial adviser whether it's a formal CFO or just somebody who understands finance when you start.” (4:47-4:53 | Natalie)“Let's focus on the bottom line first. What is that supposed to look like? Profit.” (7:55-7:59 | Natalie) “I'd rather grow a business slowly that's profitable, that's a little more conservative in its growth, versus getting on the cover of Forbes because I made all this fantastic growth, but I was miserable and really wasn't taking home as much pay.” (18:31-18:49 | Natalie)“Every hire should impact revenue to some degree, either seen or unseen.” (23:07-23:13 | Natalie)LinksConnect with Natalie Cook:Website: https://www.copper8strategies.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cooknatalie/Website: www.financefightclub.comConnect with Ben:Website: https://lucidshiftcoaching.com/Lucid Shift Coaching IG: https://www.instagram.com/lucid_shift_coaching/Project Candlelight: https://airtable.com/shr5p0P2793RtRk2kPodcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. In order to achieve freedom and live your most authentic life, it is important to face your fears. Living a #fearless life can be daunting at first, but also incredibly rewarding. With the rise of AI technology and remote work, more entrepreneurs are shifting into a #digitalnomad lifestyle. Today, Diana Davis, business coach for creative entrepreneurs and host of the podcast Pollen, talks with host Ben Easter about how to live a fearless life, what it's really like to be a nomadic #entrepreneur, and why establishing boundaries is so vital to preventing #overwhelm and #burnout.Diana has always been in the creative industry, starting off as a photographer and graphic designer. She wanted to help other creatives to lead the lifestyles they wanted without having to struggle financially. Although nervous to take that first step, she gave herself permission to face her fears and do it anyway. She became a digital nomad, trusting herself to wing it and figure it out along the way. She explains that in order for creatives to share their gifts, they have to be willing to put themselves out there, be fearless, and follow their own unique path. She also talks about the tendency for creatives to be so excited to share their gifts that they overextend themselves. This is why boundaries are important to establish early on.You don't have to be stuck in the life you have created. You are allowed to write your path in pencil and change it later, even if that feels scary. Give yourself permission to go back to the sandbox and figure out your purpose by testing different options. You can accomplish anything when you are willing to be fearless.Quotes“I used to be a photographer and a graphic designer. And that led me to really leading other creatives to be fearless and really put their gifts out into the “I think everything is just a reframe away from being positive.” (19:57-20:01 | Diana)LinksIG @Thebpbrand Fb thebpbrand Thebpbrand.com l @dollymeckler l @jyotilamba (on Twitter, Instagram) LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jyoti-lamba/Connect with Diana Davis:Camp Clarity: https://www.dianadaviscreative.com/camp-clarityGreece Retreat: https://www.dianadaviscreative.com/retreatNewsletter: https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5ec57b49b825ad00277d84e2POLLEN Podcast on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/pollen-for-creative-entrepreneurs-with-diana-davis/id1620053047Connect with Ben:Website: https://lucidshiftcoaching.com/Lucid Shift Coaching IG: https://www.instagram.com/lucid_shift_coaching/Project Candlelight: https://airtable.com/shr5p0P2793RtRk2kPodcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. Developing #confidence and #clarity requires a lot of #innerwork and dedication. It's easy to get caught up in your #ambition and constantly be looking ahead to the next project, especially as a high achiever. Learning to accept yourself, as is, in the moment is key for achieving greater freedom. Today Erin Falter, creator of WORKWORK, marketing director at Tydo, and founder at Pink Skies talks with host Ben Easter about what she has learned about developing confidence and clarity from her own coaching and personal development journey.Erin is a busy, high-achieving entrepreneur, yet in spite of her accomplishments, she was still struggling with inner confidence and clarity. Often she was saying yes to requests that were outside of alignment with her values instead of being comfortable saying no. Instead of focusing fully on her current project, she was distracted by looking to the horizon, certain that her next project would be the one that finally made her feel happy and successful. Through her work with Ben, Erin learned how to take a step back and really listen to her inner self for guidance through practices like meditation and #journaling. She learned that she was still operating from a place of limiting beliefs that were no longer applicable. Realizing that those beliefs were no longer effective was a large part of being able to switch her mindset. If you are struggling to develop confidence and clarity, take time to sort out your inner thoughts and overall mindset. Learn to make decisions from a place of true alignment with your inner values rather than out of urgency or scarcity.Quotes“Anything that's asking you for your time or your energy doesn't [mean]... that you have to give to it.” (12:12-12:19 | Erin)“At some point you really do need to shift that mentality from yes to everything to no to everything and then having the discernment to say yes when it makes sense for you.” (14:21-14:30 | Erin) “We're always on the leading edge of creation and our reality, so the horizon will always stay on the horizon. And there will always be a distance between."“It's really important to take that time to look within and really question your thoughts, make sure you're thinking about things from the right perspective.” (23:51-23:56 | Erin)“Journaling, I think, is such an incredible tool and power.” (28:41-28:46 | Erin)“Sometimes people think you work through it and you're done. The Enneagram is a tool that can help you build a life of #freedom and #authenticity. It differs from other personality typing systems like Myers Briggs and even astrology because the end goal is not the same. The goal of the Enneagram is to identify the strategy that you may have created for yourself as a child. When you identify this strategy, you can see where your #limitingbeliefs developed and no longer hold yourself back with outdated constraints. Today, co-hosts Ben Easter, Paige Easter, and Clayton Olsen talk about how to free yourself from your trance through the use of the Enneagram. There are many personality typing systems, but the Enneagram is a particularly useful one for #selfdevelopment because it aims to reveal your development trajectory. As a child, you develop armor to protect yourself in the world and this armor shows up as your personality. This armor served a purpose at the time, but now as an adult, it is helpful to peel it back to see your true essence underneath. To get started, you can use one of the online Enneagram tests to determine your number from 1 to 9. Be aware that these tests get pretty deep and can reveal your hidden insecurities and vulnerabilities. As you learn more about the numbers, you will likely find that the description which triggers you the most emotionally is the category that you fall into.Personality assessments can be useful tools, but rather than think of them as prescriptions for how you should behave, think of them more like descriptions for how you tend to be. The Enneagram is different because it not only reveals the box that may be limiting you, but also shows you a pathway to freedom from that box. Learn more about the nine Enneagram types and what your type means for you, so that you can live a more authentic life. Quotes“The aim of the Enneagram is to distinguish the box that you might be in so that you can create freedom in your life and actually not be constrained by it any longer.” (3:59-4:10 | Clayton) “The Enneagram is a way of talking about the different ways that we come up with to navigate reality such that we get to keep the body alive.” (25:13-25:22 | Ben) LinksConnect with Clayton:Website: https://claytonolsoncoaching.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtKW9swe4-j596iCIh2_nrA LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/claytonrolson/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/claytonolsoncoaching/Connect with Ben and Paige:Website: https://lucidshiftcoaching.com/Lucid Shift Coaching IG: https://www.instagram.com/lucid_shift_coaching/Project Candlelight: https://airtable.com/shr5p0P2793RtRk2kPodcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. The language you use everyday with yourself often reinforces limiting beliefs. By shifting to using #empoweringlanguage, you can enter your #zoneofgenius and unlock yourself from those #limitingbeliefs. Today host Ben Easter talks with Grace Clarke, founder of GGC Consulting, about how to unlock limiting beliefs, the benefits of investing in coaching as an entrepreneur, and how the language you use can change your mind. When you shift away from the limiting belief that everything ‘should' be done a certain way simply because it was done that way in the past, or that is how you've observed other entrepreneurs doing it, you gain the space and freedom to choose your own path to excellence. Build your own strategies and work the way you want to work rather than worrying about the ‘shoulds'. When you reinforce #limitingbeliefs in your mind, your brain will look for proof in the world to back up those beliefs. Shifting language away from viewing yourself negatively will help to create a more positive reality. Limiting beliefs can hold you back from entering your #zoneofgenius and reaching your goals. Unlock yourself from limiting beliefs by using more #empoweringlanguage with yourself, taking space to think about what is actually true, and investing in coaching to help adjust your mindset. Quotes“We can completely define how we want our work to look and what we want our work product to be.” (10:21-10:26 | Grace)“Language shifting has been really important because that is the way that we speak to ourselves all day, every day in our own heads.” (14:22-14:28 | Grace)“Language does shape our reality, and if we reinforce certain things that create a positive mindset or a sense of possibility, our brains want to hang onto it.” (15:23-15:35 | Grace)“Things that I considered as limitations or frustrations about myself are actually some of my strongest qualities and the most valuable for clients.” (17:21-17:30 | Grace)“Being consistent and committing to not just showing up and being present in the session, but reinforcing what you're practicing in between, is the most value you can create for yourself.” (30:54-31:08 | Grace)LinksConnect with Grace Clarke:Website: grace-clarke.comTwitter: Twitter.com/graceclarkeTiktok: www.tiktok.com/@gracegclarkeConnect with Ben:Website: https://lucidshiftcoaching.com/Lucid Shift Coaching IG: https://www.instagram.com/lucid_shift_coaching/Project Candlelight: https://airtable.com/shr5p0P2793RtRk2kPodcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. Do you find yourself frequently comparing yourself to others? Comparison is a totally normal part of human existence. It can help people to have more ambition and propel them into entrepreneurship and leadership positions. However, it can also be a damaging tool if used incorrectly. Today, co-hosts Ben Easter and Clayton Olson discuss how to stop comparing yourself to others and start centering yourself in your life experiences. Comparison exists because humans are social creatures, and we rely on others to survive in the world. However, it can easily get out of hand. Especially in today's age of social media and unfettered access to what we perceive to be other people's realities. In truth, you cannot know someone else's inner experiences and all comparisons you make are actually a projection of your own beliefs. To stop comparison when it becomes toxic, focus on your own progress rather than being in some fantasy competition with others. Everyone compares themselves to others. It can be a great tool for motivating yourself and temperature checking where you stand in a group. But when comparison starts to feel bad or get in the way of your progress, that is when it is important to re-evaluate and center yourself in the reality of your life. “People pleasing brings a ton of limitations and really gets in the way of us being able to create adult relationships where there's vulnerability, authenticity, transparency, and a resilience in the connection where both people can be seen and actually loved,” explains co-host Clayton Olson. If you have a tendency toward people pleasing, you are likely not being your authentic self and may even be struggling to find your tribe. Truthfully, it takes a lot of inner work to reverse the childhood conditioning that reinforces people pleasing behaviors, but it is worth it to build better relationships. Today, co-host Ben Easter talks with Clayton about why people pleasing exists and how to stop people pleasing and start forming more authentic relationships. When we are children, we rely on the relationship with our caregivers for everything. This means that we tend to learn pretty quickly that it works in our favor to try to please them. However, this type of relationship is very unbalanced and doesn't work in adulthood. If we constantly try to please everyone, we can never show our true selves. And instead of attracting our tribe, we will attract the tribe that fits the false self that we created to please others. In order to stop people pleasing and start living authentically, we must figure out what our own principles are and stick to them. People pleasing can be a really problematic tendency for many people because it is a survival technique we learn in childhood. Even though people pleasing may seem harmless, it tends to lead to resentment, poor boundaries, and inauthentic relationships. Quotes“People pleasing brings a ton of limitations that we're creating and really gets in the way of us being able to create adult relationships where there's vulnerability, authenticity, transparency, and a resilience in the connection where both people can be seen and actually loved.” (12:07-12:23 | Clayton)“At its essence, people pleasing is about love. It's a desire for love. It's a desire to feel worthy of love.” (12:27-12:34 | Ben)“People that are not people pleasers typically have a set of principles that they operate from regardless of what the external world is doing.” (29:56-30:02 | Clayton)“Your authentic self is the homing beacon that dog-whistles out the people that are your actual tribe.” (35:10-35:18 | Clayton)LinksConnect with Clayton:Website: https://claytonolsoncoaching.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtKW9swe4-j596iCIh2_nrA LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/claytonrolson/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/claytonolsoncoaching/Connect with Ben:Website: https://lucidshiftcoaching.com/Lucid Shift Coaching IG: https://www.instagram.com/lucid_shift_coaching/Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. “There's so many people out there that have money mindset problems because they strongly believe that what they should be doing is giving away what they have for the sake of other people,” explains co-host Paige Easter. Also, the wife of host Ben Easter, Paige, returns for part two of the Money Mindset series. Today, they discuss changing your relationship with money to provide yourself with true financial freedom. While analyzing the classic “Robin Hood” story, Paige and Ben find that it overemphasizes “need” as a higher value than creating. If we actually stole from the rich to give to the poor, then there would be less resources for those who create systems for societies to function. Instead, Paige and Ben encourage listeners to use their money to benefit themselves but also invest in the causes they care about. By taking care of ourselves, we can create the value to help the world.Having a financial mindset shift can lead to great benefits. Learn more about value creation, the mistrust around sales tactics, and how investing can have positive outcomes.Quotes“The only way that we can give to the needy is if we have first figured out a way to survive.” (7:09-7:14 | Ben)“There's so many people out there that have money mindset problems because they strongly believe that what they should be doing is giving away what they have for the sake of other people.” (10:42-10:52 | Paige)“There's this really big incentive to sell in a way that is emphasizing the generation of income for a person, and not the generation of positive relationships.” (14:58-15:08 | Paige)“By keeping yourself from providing a service and having the experience of fulfillment that you want in your reality, you are also keeping other people from getting the beautiful benefit of the work that you do in the world.” (24:32-24:44 | Paige)“One of the things that I really love spending my money on our money is investing in, like learning and education. And there's such a, an amount of gratitude that comes from one that I have the resources, and two, that I can exchange them in three, that the person who created that content is available for me to consume. And when I'm putting my money into that, then I'm creating more space for other people in the world to be creating that kind of value that I can then go and consume, and have kind of a reason for going out and creating value for other people so that I can have access to all these really exciting things. And I love this as kind of a framework for how freedom can work in a really concrete way.” (25:39-26:25 | Paige) “As we create abundance in the things that we really care about, we get more energy, more time, and more value to create those things in the world.” (28:28-28:37 | Ben)“Asking people to invest in the service or product that you provide is actually in service to them. Because when you give it away for free, they don't value it as much. And then they might not actually extract the benefit of it.” (28:57-29:15 | Paige) LinksConnect with Paige Easter:Website: https://lucidshiftcoaching.com/Lucid Shift Coaching IG: https://www.instagram.com/lucid_shift_coaching/Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. Here it is, the moment we've all been waiting for... the holy grail of Mary-Kate and Ashley movies... today we talk about Holiday in the Sun.And we know what you're thinking-- didn't you two already talk about this movie? NO WE DIDN'T. We interviewed Ben Easter aka Jordan Landers as in Landers Hardware Store Landers, but just the two of us, Becca and Lani, have never talked about this movie in real life or on this podcast! So today, we leave no stone unturned. We get into the nitty gritty of what made this movie so special and a nostalgic favorite among pop culture intelligentsia. Also, being the enthusiasts of story and film that we are, we pick apart the parts of this movie that don't, let's face it, really work. But bottom line: this movie single handedly gave an entire generation unrealistic expectations for 1) falling in love on a family vacation and 2) the overall quality of Krispy Kreme donuts. And for that, it will always have a uniquely special place in our hearts. So slip on your flip flops, jump on your private jet, and get your fish blender ready, because we're going to the Bahamas! Last November, for Holiday in the Sun's 20th Anniversary, we had what can only be described as a life-changing interview with Ben Easter (aka Jordan Landers of Hardware Store Landers). Now that we've finally caught up in our timeline to the iconic Holiday in the Sun era, this week we are re-releasing our interview with Ben Easter. We are proud to say we are much better interviewers now than we were last November, so please excuse our INTENSE nerves at the beginning (but then again, what self-respecting MKA fan wouldn't get that way before speaking to Ben Easter). And as a bonus, this week we're releasing the FULL VIDEO (with parts that were edited out of this podcast), only for our patrons here. Enjoy! -----------------------------------------------------------------------------On November 20th, 2001, Mary-Kate and Ashley's 5th direct-to-video film, Holiday in the Sun was officially released. And for the 20th anniversary of this iconic film, we had the honor and privilege of talking to the incredibly kind, completely gorgeous, outrageously humble, he's-what-time-it-is, Mr. Ben Easter! That's right: Jordan Landers. As in, the Landers Hardware Store Landers. Talked to us. And we kept it together enough to learn all about what he was doing (and wearing!) right before he got the part, what the casting process was like, what it was like filming this beloved film with Mary-Kate and Ashley, and how the film impacted his life. This conversation was literally a dream come true for us, and we hope you're able to feel the immense love and enthusiasm that we felt while recording.Turns out you CAN have your cake and eat it too. Today's episode guest is my amazing business coach Ben Easter. He revisits us to talk about the zone of genius, what it is, how finding our own will help us thrive in our lives and our businesses, and what we can do to stay as much as we can in it. Our conversation revolves around the importance of honing our craft in our zone of genius, the practical ways we can use to discover our zone of genius, and the differences between the zone of excellence and the zone of genius. Ben also highlights the importance of connecting what we are good at and what we love to do with something financially compensated by the world. We discuss the importance of considering the zone of genius concept when hiring and enrolling people on our teams, how to identify our and other people's abilities, and why we feel less "productive" when performing zone of genius tasks that feel easy to us. Some Questions I Ask:Can you explain what the zone of genius is? (7:03)How can we get to the point where we remain in our zone of genius and don't get distracted by other activities in our business? (13:11)What are your thoughts on the business model that instills in employees to know every part of the business? (20:14)In This Episode, You Will Learn:What it means to operate in our zone of genius (8:42)How does our "original setup" affect how we connect with our zoneWhy do we end up blocking others from operating in their zone of genius when we work out of ours (16:03)Getting paid to learn is a brilliant model in the world (26:59)The differences between the zone of genius and the zone of excellence (34:36)Why is it that when we do "easy tasks" in our zone of genius, we feel we weren't productive, and how to change that mentality (38:25)Resources:Lucid Shift Coaching websiteLucid Shift Coaching FacebookLucid Shift Coaching YouTube channelBook: Gay Hendricks - The Big LeapConnect with Ben:LinkedInInstagramLet's connect!Active Ingredient InstagramSophie Weill Instagram See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Are you engaging in violent or nonviolent communication? Knowing how to make the shift is vital to being an effective leader - and communicator. Today, I got the chance to speak to Ben Easter, founder of Lucid Shift Coaching. Ben and I unfortunately both share the title of brain injury survivor - and in this episode, he shares how that experience led him to learn all he could about effective communication. We discuss the power of the brain to adapt and learn new skills and strategies - and how that relates to how we communicate with others. Ben shares what violent and non-violent communication look like and how to spot them in yourself. He gives us a sample role play and practical strategies to shift into non-violent communication, and we discuss how self-reflection, language choice and boundaries play a big role in that shift. This episode will cause you to reflect on how you talk and invite you to find a new way of interacting with your colleagues, employees - and yes, even loved ones. Key Takeaways:Nonviolent communication is a language of expressing what's alive in us to other people in such a way that we give them opportunities to contribute to it.Noticing the language we use is the first step to becoming a nonviolent communicator. Need, Have To, Must, Should, and other such word choices are red flags for stepping into violent communication. Nonviolent communication is a practice. The more you notice and do it, the more you will connect the neural pathways. “Defense is the first act of aggression. If we come in with the idea that we're defending something, things get tense. Rather than defending, I like to think about enrolling people. What are we doing? After a severe head injury that compromised the parts of the brain responsible for processing language and social interactions, Ben Easter found himself in a tough spot. Like every other human, he strived for connection and belonging, which the consequences of his accident were clearly making more difficult.Ben devoted his entire being to achieve a fast recovery, and within 6 months, he was already on his feet and, (according to him), fully recovered. But he wasn't; he still had issues processing language, understanding what people would say to him, and the worst part of it, he wasn't aware of these issues; his grandma pointed them out to him. The following months were dark for Ben; he contemplated suicide, he felt isolated, broken, and unworthy. His studying abilities weren't affected, though, so he started reading about neuroplasticity and learning how to stimulate the brain to "fix itself," he studied and learned about social dynamics. Ben realized social skills were precisely that, skills, and with practice, he would eventually redevelop them, which he did. Ben Easter, is a Transformational Life Coach and the CEO and Head Coach of Lucid Shift Coaching. He has two Bachelor of Arts degrees from Florida State University. He also has a Master of Science degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese Herbology from Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In this episode, we had a fantastic conversation about connection, the need for being noticed, and the importance of belonging. Ben shared his transformational journey, from being a bully to a Relationship Coach. We delve into how crucial it is to face our fears, be comfortable with failure, trust ourselves, and why it is impossible to find peace until we double down our efforts on what we love and think of financial success as a consequence of following our passions.
