They talk about the science of wearing a mask and what it protects or not. The size of COVID droplets is much smaller than much of the other masks allow. The science shows that the holes in the mask are 1000 times larger than the COVID virus. In addition, our breath breaks down the mask in 15 minutes. The manufactures of masks have to list things that masks are not to be used for and they discuss that it clearly states that it will not protect against viruses. Is this Political? Why are so many states requiring face coverings? They discuss fear being used to push politics. The mandates are not for people to wear masks but for stores to be required to have a sign that requires masks. Many of the mandates require a not vented mask which is not to protect the person wearing the mask but others supposedly. When is Clean Really Clean? Do the process that stores use to disinfect and clean surfaces work? Dr. Silvestro explains why the method of straying a disinfectant and immediately wiping it off does not kill viruses on a surface. Therefore, the cleaning process does not actually disinfect the surface. Fear, Fear and More Fear The face coverings are being used to drive fear. Unbelievers fear death, but Christians should not fear death. Did you know Jesus had to learn the Bible? Have you ever thought about that?  Jesus didn't just somehow automatically know the Scriptures by heart just because he was God in the flesh. He had to study them and learn them, just like he had to learn so many other things as a human being.  And learn them he did.  Read the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) looking for all the time Jesus referred to or quoted the Bible. It was just a part of the fabric of his life.  As disciples of Jesus, our goal is to become like Him. That means, we imitate his pattern of life. If Jesus did something, then we aim to do it too.  This means that learning the Bible should be a central aim of our discipleship to Jesus.  In this episode, we mentioned a lot a passages of Scripture. I'll put a few of them below to make it easier to follow along if you want. Matthew 12:1-7 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.” 3 He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. 5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are innocent? 6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”   Matthew 15:1-9;  15 Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2 “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!” 3 Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’ 5 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’ 6 they are not to ‘honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: 8  “‘These people honor me with their lips,     but their hearts are far from me. 9  They worship me in vain;     their teachings are merely human rules.’”   Luke 2:40-52 46 After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.   Luke 24:25-27 25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.   Want to deepen you connection with God? Over the course of the past two years, the #MeToo movement has catapulted sexual harassment and assault, primarily against women, to the forefront of our cultural awareness. There appears to be a shift occurring in our collective American consciousness. Acts of sexual harassment and assault that have been historically overlooked are now being publicly discussed and confronted. This workshop will explore the issues and questions brought forth by this cultural moment from both theological and sociological perspectives. Mary Frances Giles has worked for L’Abri in Southborough since 2010. A native of Tennessee, she has lived in the greater Boston area for over 20 years and is a member of Park Street Church in Boston. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia and a Masters Degree from Boston University, both in the area of speech-language pathology. She worked as a pediatric speech pathologist for over ten years in both schools and hospitals in the Boston area before moving into the non-profit sector. In the last decade, a fascinating area of political thought has begun to receive increasing attention from scholars in the field: the political philosophy of the Hebrew Bible. After all, at the core of Scripture lies the story of the creation of the nation of Israel and the rise and fall of its first commonwealth—a narrative that can be mined not only for religious guidance, but also for social and political wisdom. Perhaps no contemporary thinker has devoted as much attention to the Bible’s political teaching as Herzl Institute President Yoram Hazony. Author of God and Politics in Esther, The Philosophy of Hebrew Scripture, and much more, Dr. Hazony is a leading pioneer in the field of Hebraic political thought. In this podcast, Dr. Hazony joins Jonathan Silver for an discussion about one of his early essays on this topic, “Does the Bible Have a Politcal Teaching?” Published in 2006 in Hebraic Political Studies, the piece takes a close look at the sweep of biblical history and makes the case that the Hebrew Bible seeks to find a middle path between the tyranny of the imperial state and the anarchy of tribal politics. In this conversation, Hazony and Silver examine the key arguments of the essay as well as the bias against the Bible in the modern academy and Scripture’s influence on the modern West.
