Interview by Kris PetersThe last 12 months has seen punk rock outfit the Wolsten Butchers share the stage with some iconic punk rock acts like The Decline, and international punk stalwarts Guttermouth and Belvedere, but none of those experiences could have prepared them for the unexpected and massive success of the single Live Dead Die Fast which catapulted the name Wolsten Butchers into corners of the music world never before imagined. But now the fun really starts.Global success brings with it increased expectation and heightened scrutiny, so often the next track released can either make or break a band long term. So what do the Wolsten Butchers do?Release another absolute banger with Play These Games, further exploring the hard rock element of the band's musical psyche and keeping their foot flat to the floor in all relevant departments.HEAVY caught up with singer/guitarist Carl Jackson to find out about the new track and how the boys handled their sudden rise to prominence."It's the first thing I think I've done in my life that potentially I could say is highly anticipated," Jackson laughed about the impending release of the new single. "It's a blessing and a curse when you have a song that does really well, you have to… well I suppose you don't have to follow that up, but you want to. You want the same response as the last one, potentially even more. So I'm excited. I love the song. I love the clip. I'm really excited about what it is, but also just really nervous about what people are going to think."In the full interview, the discussion focused on the Wolston Butchers' upcoming single release, Play These Games, with Carl expressing both excitement and anxiety about following up their previous hit, Live Dead Die Fast. He described the new track as heavier, complemented by a bright music video concept that contrasts its intensity. He also reflected on the band's evolving sound and their openness to creating radio-friendly pop-punk music. The conversation also highlighted the band's energetic live performances, upcoming shows including a gig with Bodyjar, and participation in the We Belong Festival with Frenzal Rhomb.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Interview by Kris PetersOne enduring quality possessed by the vast majority of Australians is an untenable bond that ties us together and stays through thick, thin or indifferent.Be it the sporting arena or the social or even the blue collar working mentality there is no denying that if one person can have a good time doing something, then five could have infinitely more. It's sort of a pack mentality that sees us put everything on the line for our mates and epitomises, to me anyway, what being an Aussie is all about.Which is why it shocked no-one earlier this year when Melbourne punk legends Bodyjar and Perth rock machine Gyroscope announced they were embarking on a trek around the country together under the guise of a "tour".But just in case there was anyone who dare doubt their motives, both bands conveniently have album anniversary landmarks to potentially celebrate so whether they like it or not the tour side of the party became official. Not that you would imagine the fun side of things was, is or will ever be in any danger. With Gyroscope celebrating the 15th birthday of their album Breed Obsession and Bodyjar going ten better with their album No Touch Red the stage for a travelling punk/rock extravaganza was well and truly set.Luckily for both bands they also rate highly on the live performance radar so what could go wrong? What indeed...To find out just how much of a tour this will be and how much of a social gathering it already is, HEAVY cornered Bodyjar frontman Cam Baines earlier this week and gave him the chance to set the record straight and what better way to cut straight to the chase than ask if he has already packed and readied himself for the road."Not yet," he smiled. "I normally do my packing the morning that we go, which really freaks out my wife. We're all jammed up; we've been practicing, we've run through the old songs and made sure we've got a few surprises for the crowds. Some of the Melbourne shows will see some ex members and stuff get up and do a few songs, so I feel mentally prepared, musically prepared and I think we're raring to go. We've planning this for a while and a lot of the shows are sold out and everything so we are hoping for a banger!"Being an anniversary party it only seems fitting that No Touch Red will get the lions share of attention, which is affirmed by Baines."Yeah, we'll be doing that in full, start to finish," he nodded, "and then we'll just do whatever people wanna hear. The popular songs people wanna hear like Not The Same, One In A Million, Surrender... whatever people yell out we will play it."In the full interview Cam talks about having to play an older album in full, especially when at the time it wasn't even considered to be a complete live package, his memories of when the album came out in 1998 and how it impacted Bodyjar's career, recording it in Canada and why, some cool recording stories and how that particular album was almost doomed before being started, his thoughts of the album back then and if he saw anything special or enduring in it, touring with Gyroscope and why they are a good fit, writing new music and more.
After an unexpected break, the boys return to talk about Pete Murray and The Living End gigs, upcoming tours, Cam's neardeath experience in Bali and Steve's offer to join a cult.Follow Garage Rock on our socials for new music:Instagram: @garagerockpodcastFacebook: facebook.com/garagerockpodcastYouTube: youtube.com/channel/UCfi6SBQ4di4hXhtuehMQpIw

Interview by Erin EddyIf ever there was a time to be in Queensland, it's right now. In parts of the country where theweather has taken a chilly turn, the Sunshine Coast is a welcome reprieve. But the favourableweather isn't the only drawcard this week.On Saturday June 3, the Sandstone Point Hotel is hosting Spring Loaded Festival.A delicious throw back for those of us who were big into the Triple J scene of the late 90's and early 2000's, Spring Loaded is serving up one mighty cocktail of Aussie music.HEAVY spoke with Tom Read of Bodyjar, one sliver of the Spring Loaded pie. He expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event proclaiming, “Get me up to Queensland fast!”The festival line up is exciting for the Bodyjar congregation due to being among so many friends. A sentiment that is likely shared across all the bands attending, which is only going to make for huge vibes on the day.“I have no excuse but to go hard,” said Tom, who will be taking the opportunity to stick around in Queensland for a holiday with his family after the festival, “I can't not get in the pit for Shihad.”Bodyjar and Shihad are joined by Magic Dirt, Spiderbait, Frenzal Rhomb, Eskimo Joe, Ratcat and Screamfeeder. An epic assemblage of bands, right?Tickets are still available and can be purchased via Ticketmaster.Tune in to the really fun chat we had with Tom, talking about Spring Loaded, nostalgia, what Bodyjar are up to next and Tom's date with hypothermia post-interview!
Interview by Kris PetersBrisbane indie guitar pop outfit Screamfeeder are another band from the 1990s that is still commanding attention on the national touring circuit. The band has released a total of seven albums - the most recent of which was Five Rooms last May - and are one of the few remaining bands from that era that are still producing regular content as well as playing live. They will form but one cog in next weekends Spring Loaded 2023 Festival at Brisbane's Sandstone Point Hotel, reuniting with fellow 90s classmates Spiderbait, Frenzal Rhomb, Magic Dirt, Ratcat, Bodyjar, Shihad and Eskimo Joe for a trip down memory lane and also one which proves the timeless nature of good Australian music.Bassist Kellie Lloyd joined HEAVY to discuss the show and revisit old memories."We've actually tried to broaden our set list a little bit for this show," she offered, "because Spring Loaded in particular is all about the 90s, so we tend to play songs that the audience will know. Not like stuff from our newer albums - because we've been continuing to put out albums - we brought out one last year, so we're not playing new stuff. We're playing all older stuff. We wanna make sure that we're appealing to the audience and what they are after."We mention the line-up and the old school nature of the bands, pointing out it's almost like a family reunion of sorts."We've played gigs with all of those bands," she nodded. "In the 90s we toured with Spiderbait and Magic Dirt and we've played with Shihad and Bodyjar and Ratcat. All of those bands we're all friends, so yeah, it is like a... it's not like a family reunion, it's more like a reconnection of people who are doing what they love. The audience is there to relive that part of their lives, and a lot of people might bring their kids along who are now teenagers or twenty - something's who grew up listening to this music. I call it a Nostalgia Fest because that's exactly what it is. It's really nostalgic, but it's also completely relevant. It's not like harking back to the past. All this music stands today and is still as vital as it was."In the full interview, Kellie discusses the importance of all Aussie festivals, runs through her best memories of each band on the bill, tells us what we can expect from their set, the early days of Screamfeeder and where they fit in, maintaining a musical presence and more.
Interview by Kris PetersThere's something to be said when it comes to nostalgia and Aussie music.Perhaps more so than any other music listening country in the world, Australia genuinely loves and respects music from eras gone by, recognising not only the current state and crop of Australian artists, but also paying homage to the bands who paved the way for a prolonged period of success. It doesn't hurt when these bands continue to not only tour - but do so with the same youthful zest and energy they delivered in their heyday. And when a festival like Spring Loaded comes along on a now yearly basis further proof of the credentials and staying power of Aussie talent is laid bare on one stage over one day for all to see. This years first Spring Loaded, to be held at Bribie Island's Sandstone Point Hotel on June 3, showcases the best of the best of yesteryear, with Spiderbait headlining and being joined by Frenzal Rhomb, Shihad, Magic Dirt, Bodyjar, Eskimo Joe, Ratcat and Screamfeeder. The festival is living testament to the longevity of Australian bands and music and is all the more special for the fact it is made up only of bands from this part of the world.Shihad are the only New Zealand band on the line-up and are eager to get out there and play songs from their most recent album Old Gods, which hasn't yet received the attention it deserves due to recent world events.Frontman Jon Toogood joined HEAVY to chat about Spring Loaded and Shihad's place in the line-up."Any opportunity to get me in front of a crowd with that band I'm real happy about," he smiled. "I'm pretty excited."We bring up the quality of bands on the bill and the fact they are still drawing crowds decades after they first came out."It's almost like the nineties all over again," he laughed. "I like these festivals because it's not too uncomfortable backstage because I know everybody (laughs). It's a nice vibe backstage. Everyone is past that really hyper-competitive bollocks that we used to do when we were young, so everyone gets along a lot better. We're there to absolutely slay, but back in the day at the Big Day Out and stuff it was cut-throat."In the full interview Jon talks about the drawing power of older bands like these, why they still succeed, some of the bands on the line-up and his best touring memory of them, what we can expect from Shihad's set, learning to manage yourself and your body as your career progresses, new material and more.
Interview by Kris PetersMagic Dirt have been a mainstay on the Australian music scene since their formation in 1991.They quickly became regulars on the touring circuit, appearing at festivals such as Big Day Out, Livid and Homebake, in the process earning a solid reputation as an energetic and formidable live unit, led by the charismatic and highly talented Adalita Srsen on vocals.Age has not wearied Magic Dirt, who are one of the main drawcards at Spring Loaded at the Sandstone Point Hotel on June 3 which features a host of iconic Australian bands including Spiderbait, Ratcat, Shihad, Frenzal Rhomb, Screamfeeder, Bodyjar and Eskimo Joe.HEAVY caught up with Adalita recently to celebrate the enduring goodness of Aussie rock bands."I can't wait!", she enthused. "Playing with all our mates and playing up in Brissie is always good for us Melbournites. We love going up there. We've done the festival a few times now and it's such a great feel. All our mates are all together - we used to play a lot back in the day. We used to do the Big Day Out's and Livid's and Homebake all together, all the time. This lineup is literally the Big Day Out lineup, the Aussie version. So it's like the Little Day out, but Ratcat are playing as well, who we are all so excited to see. They were the kind of Godfathers of pre-grunge and all that sort of stuff and they influenced a lot of the bands so we are all super fanning out to see Ratcat (laughs). It's gonna be huge. We haven't done Queensland in a while, so there's so many reasons to be looking forward to this show."In the full interview Adalita runs through the other bands on the bill and her best memories of playing with them, the importance of all Australian festivals like Spring Loaded, what we can expect from Magic Dirt on the day, the longevity of Aussie bands and why they are still relevant, upcoming plans and more.
Interview by Kris PetersOften with music festivals containing some form of nostalgia things can become unnecessarily cluttered and almost sentimental, in effect negating the very concept of a musical celebration featuring an assortment of bands who have all played significant roles in the success that is Australian music. But, when a festival gels as it should then the result is nothing short of triumphant.Think festivals like Homebake and Livid that are to this day spoken about with awe and wonderment and the sheer magic of music is instantly compounded. And it now appears there's one more name to add to the list.Spring Loaded. After the universal acclaim from punters and performers alike following last years travelling spectacle, organisers have this year stuck to the same winning formula of signing up some of the best Australian music talent from the past couple of decades and throwing them together on one stage to unleash the inherent beauty of music in its purest and simplest form. This year headlined by Spiderbait, Spring Loaded kicks off on June 3 at the Sandstone Point Hotel with a stacked line-up that also includes Frenzal Rhomb, Shihad, Eskimo Joe, Screamfeeder, Magic Dirt, Ratcat and Bodyjar. With the countdown on for what is already shaping to be another monster day of entertainment, HEAVY sat down with Spiderbait's Kram to talk about the strength of Spring Loaded and Spiderbait's honour of having been named headliner."I think it will be fantastic," he enthused. "We did do this show a few years ago and I didn't really know what to expect and it was such a fantastic gig and fantastic festival. We can't wait to do it again and we're really pumped.""It's such a beautiful ampitheatre," he continued. "Amazing vibe and it reminds me of some of the old festivals that we used to play years ago in Queensland."In the full interview, Kram talks about being asked to headline, the importance of having festivals made up of only Australian bands, some memories of playing with other bands on the bill, their live show and what to expect, perfecting your craft and more.
Interview by Kris PetersBrisbane punk Gods Fake News have done the hard yards, supporting legends of the scene such as Good Riddance, No Fun At All, Bodyjar, 28 Days and Guttermouth - and that was all within one year of starting the band in 2017!Since then Fake News have capitalsed on that early success with their 2021 debut album Everyday Warrior and have now followed that up with their latest four track slab of goodness, Take Me Away.Traversing the boundaries of traditional punk, Take Me Away sees Fake News explore their musical psyche even more, dipping their toes into other genres while still fully embracing the punk ethos from which they were born.Vocalist Tim Russ and bass Nick joined HEAVY to chat more about the EP."This has been a massive work in progress," Tim explained, "and it's so good to see it's not far away from getting to show the world. There's definitely been so much hard work go into it. Darren and Nick and Matt, they all put in so much effort to get this one over the line. We got Matt in the studio and he belted things hard, so you can really hear the hard hits in this one. It's been nothing but a hard slog, so it's good to see it finally coming to light."In the full interview, the boys talk more about the musical nature of the EP, shifting away slightly from the punk sound on which they built their name, the heavier edge and where it comes from, the early days of the band and how it has evolved into what you hear today, their early influences and how they have changed since, finding your niche in the musical market, their upcoming show at Mo's Desert Clubhouse, what to expect from a Fake News show and more.
We all have a Soundwave memory, seeing Iron Maiden on the main stage or a debut from Parkway Drive - it was a festival we all were proud to say "I was there at the beginning! Now, that same DNA carries on with Good Things Festival. It's on this December and we couldn't be more excited with NOFX coming back doing 'Punk in Drublic' and TISM returning for the first time in 19 years. Chris O'Brien started off managing The Mavis' and Bodyjar and then started booking punk nights in Melbourne. Then he met AJ Maddah, and things grew from there! Get ready for some great stories, this is The Rider with Becko and concert promoter Chris O'Brien.

Oh, and here's our index of all episode in one concise page Running Sheet: Beer & BBQ Festival 00:00:00 Intro Introduction to the show. 00:02:45 SA Drink Of The Week This week's SA Drink Of The Week is a collab beer from Big Shed Brewing. It's called 5 Minutes Away and it was brewed for the 2022 Beer & BBQ Festival in collaboration with local band, Bodyjar. 00:11:21 Gareth Lewis and Craig Basford We are well aware of the impact Covid had on the arts, as well as a variety of businesses and community endeavours, but it seems to really have had something against the Beer & BBQ Festival. They had two Adelaide Beer & BBQ events cancelled, one of them on the day before which must have hurt more than accidentally touching a barbecue hot plate! And they had a third event canned; their home brewed event in January was called off because there was too much uncertainty around the changing nature of restrictions. In terms of major events in SA, this crew has every right to pack it in BUT co-directors Gareth Lewis and Aaron Sandow have gotten back into the kitchen (even if that kitchen is outside) and put together an impressive lineup to ensure the Beer & BBQ Festival can rise from the ashes, so to speak. Craig Basford from Big Shed Brewing, and Gareth Lewis from the Adelaide Beer & BBQ Festival, thanks for joining The Adelaide Show. Buy tickets here for the 2022 Adelaide Beer & BBQ Festival Learn more about Big Shed Brewing here In my intro, I referenced you getting back into the kitchen "even if the kitchen is outside" and a thought to myself, the art and the act of barbecuing is not as exclusively outdoors as it used to be because when we recorded episode 127 with The Smoking Joint crew, I reckon Grant and the team did a lot of work with their black gloves on the kitchen bench. What is the state of play for serious barbecuers these days? How much action happens away from the barbecue or the smoker? As a person who barbecues on a traditional barbecue with a chargrill plate and a hot plate, and who is done in 30 minutes, I'm in awe of the more complex and slow approach to BBQ. Are there first steps someone like me could take to start producing the "wow" effect with his barbecue? What would you start with? Does good BBQ always take a long time? Is a smoker a must? How important are thermometers and can I trust them? A mate of mine, Jesse Donnarumma from Smoke & Steel, always uses meat rubs, etc. Because I don't plough through good meat all the time, whenever I'm ready for a beautiful steak, I want to taste the steak, and not seasonings other than a little salt and pepper. Is that cool or am I really missing a deep vein of gold here? Pickle juice - can I buy spring gully pickles and just drain the juice from them? Tell us about the brewers on board? Tell us about the bands on board? And give us your insider's tips on how to get the most out of this festival. 00:50:57 Musical Pilgrimage In the musical pilgrimage, we have Joan of the Arcade by Mums Favourite. Mums Favourite is one of the bands appearing at the Beer and BBQ Festival in Adelaide, July 15-17, 2022, and they'll be serving up their own selection of indie/rock/blues, garnished with a generous dash of haunting/frenzied power. I can hear influence from early Nick Cave and a sense of freedom to follow each idea much like Kate Bush although in a grounded, and earthier way. But, of course, they are themselves. In Joan of the Arcade we get a bass riff to die for, tight drums, great lead guitar solo, and sinister/sultry vocals by Sasha.Support the show: https://theadelaideshow.com.au/listen-or-download-the-podcast/adelaide-in-crowd/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
With two shows down and only one remaining in Melbourne this Saturday, May 7, it's fair to make an early call and declare the first year of Uncaged Festival to be a resounding success.Carting an all Aussie line-up from Sydney to Brisbane and now Melbourne, Uncaged has truly been a diverse musical festival, featuring bands like Wolfmother, You Am I, Tex Perkins & The Fat Rubber Glove, Shihad, 12 Foot Ninja, Killing Heidi, 28 Days, Bodyjar and more, taking fans down memory lane while also treating them to a display from some of the finest up and comings bands this country has to offer. With the finish line in sight, HEAVY sat down with 12 Foot Ninja guitarist Stevic for his take on the run of shows thus far."They've been awesome,” he enthused of the first two shows, “we had a blast. It's been a really fun festival. All of the crew and staff have all run things super well. The bands have been awesome... yeah, I can't complain mate, it's been a good time."When I point out that many at the recent Brisbane leg of the tour at Eaton's Hill thought 12 Foot Ninja were one of the standouts of the day, the normally unflappable Stevic ALMOST looked like he might blush."Thanks, that means a lot,” he managed. “We just had a good time. It's like a ripple effect. If the band is having fun, then most of the time it's fun to watch."In the full interview, Stevic talks more about Uncaged, being part of something like this, how 12 Foot Ninja approach festival shows compared to their own, guest vocalist Kayla who wowed the Brisbane audience, a headlining tour of Australia later this year and more.
While Uncaged Festival officially kicks off this weekend, the show itself has taken far longer to bring from idea to reality. In a musical climate where many promotors were having to be selective about which shows to put on, Silverback Touring, and particularly the man behind it all Danny Bazzi, was thinking more about the future and the possibilities it may bring. It was a brave move, especially considering the tours that Silverback had been forced to cancel or postpone, but one which has ultimately seen the emergence of what should become Australia's latest and greatest annual music festival, Uncaged.HEAVY tracked Danny down earlier this week to talk about Uncaged and the long journey which has seen it brought to life."It's definitely been a rollercoaster of joy, frustration and numerous emotions,” he offered, “but it's finally here. We've had to, I guess, navigate our way through. When we initially announced it we were navigating around venue restrictions and capacity, which is why we went outdoor into larger spaces initially. It's always been intended as being a relatively modest festival. It's only got a capacity of 5000 and we've never gone over that. The sole reason we went to some of those bigger spaces initially was based on COVID restrictions, so we needed a 20,000 cap space to accommodate 5000 people on one person per four square meters at the time. How times have changed. Here we are, we're at the finish line in some respects, but in saying that we're also at the start because this is the start of something we're looking to grow."While the average punter gets all of the excitement surrounding that one day of live music, behind the scenes the time taken to put together and execute a festival of this magnitude is immeasurable."A lot,” Bazzi laughed when asked how much time went into Uncaged. “To put it in context, it's basically absorbed my life for the last six months or so. It's a rollercoaster of emotions. There's some real excitement around it, everything from coming up with the branding, to the concept, what you're trying to put out, and then finding the talent and putting it on sale, dealing with punters and feedback - everyone's got an opinion these days - it's just a huge process but one which can't be executed without having a solid team. And the team I've got actually running the festival are some of the best in the business so that gives me a lot of comfort in terms of delivery of the festival. There are so many facets to it, and I won't deny that it's been a learning curve in many ways. I've got the greatest of respect for my peers and promoters who are putting on festivals. (But) You have to take the bull by the horns at some point and dive into the deep end, and I think we've done that. There will certainly be a few lessons learnt, but I think we've got a really good foundation for a new rock festival in Australia."In the full interview, Danny tells us more about himself and his role with Silverback Touring, why he decided to start a new festival in trying times, the selection process for bands, giving emerging bands the opportunity to play all three shows, the future of Uncaged and if international bands will be part of the festival moving forward, surviving COVID as a promotor, other tours coming up and more.
After being delayed since last year due to the dreaded Spicy Cough, Australia's newest – and Aussie bands only – festival Uncaged is finally within sight of the first show in Sydney on April 23.Uncaged features an eclectic collection of bands, covering everything from rock to punk to metal and bringing them all together under one banner to provide a diverse line-up of music that will have something to please everyone.Wolfmother, You Am I, Magic Dirt, The Superjesus, Killing Heidi, Tex Perkins and Shihad head the one day festival which will visit Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, as well as a host of local bands such as Twelve Foot Ninja, Bodyjar, Tumbleweed, 28 Days, The Hard-Ons and more.Melbourne heavy rock outfit El Colosso are flying the flag for all things rock, with vocalist Matt Cooper taking time out from signing autographs to chat with HEAVY.DISCLAIMER: ENGAGE HUMOUROUS SIDE OF YOUR BRAIN BEFORE CONTINUING. COOPS IS WHAT IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS AN AUSSIE LARRIKAN AND ANYTHING HE SAYS SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH A GRAIN OF SALT OR A TABLESPOON OF SUGAR…After previous late aborted efforts to get the El Colossus train rolling as part of Uncaged the first show is less than seven sleeps away so are the band allowing themselves to get excited or are they still wary that the threat of the big C still looms large over the world? I don't like to be pessimistic but in reality anything could happen…"You know what, you're right,” Coops agreed. “Anything can happen. Let me just tow the corporate line for a while and say it's gonna be incredible and it's gonna be huge and it's about time that we actually started to get out there for festivals. Full credit to Danny Bazzi who has really put his name on the line to organise this. It's chopped and it's changed. COVID has not been kind to the industry to begin with, but I don't really see anyone else in the industry doing what Danny is doing with Silverback and he's actually prepared to take a lot of flak for it. Hats off to him mate, seriously. He's got balls, and what could be more attractive than a man with very big balls?"Another aspect where festival organisers are ahead of the game is their decision to take most of the line-up to each city rather than chop and change the roster depending on location. It shows confidence in the ability and drawing power of individual bands and is something that surely must increase the confidence of localized outfits, knowing the people behind the scenes have faith in their performance."Honestly, we're a pretty confident band to begin with,” Coops replied, tongue firmly planted in cheek. “It's funny. I actually had someone that I work with who had no idea that I play in a band - which is funny considering how much ink I have on my body and all that kind of thing - and she said that she had listened to some of the music and she couldn't understand why we weren't bigger and I could have gone into the whole spiel about the state of the music industry and all that kind of thing but it's actually something that we get a lot. People that take the time to listen to it often come back and say how come you guys aren't doing more stuff? Well, you know, that's the game. The thing that we really do, that we can really... not rest laurels on... but where we get our confidence from, is playing live. We are the best live band in the world, and I don't mind that getting out. If anyone that plays in a band doesn't think that about their own band, then why fucken play live? I know that really we're not the best but I like to think that we are. At least that we're up there (laughs)."In the full interview, Coops goes into greater details on why El Colosso are amongst the best bands in the world (and almost convinces us that they are in the process), what sorts of things a band can take out of playing festivals such as Uncaged, how important home grown festivals are for the future of Australian music, survival tips to make sure you are still standing for the final band, El Colosso's sound and where it comes from, future plans and more.

I was like, let me ask the guys, and then he said do you want to just play Sydney or do you want to do all of them? And I said, is that an option? Of course, we want to do all of them, so it came out of nowhere but Danny has always been a big fan of Molly and what we do, and Danny and I have quite a few musical similarities so we always bonded over that."The lineup of bands covers many genres, with the diversity of music a main feature of Uncaged. We press Cateris on what he thinks Molly & The Krells bring to the festival."For diversity I reckon,” he shrugged “From memory there's not a lot of poppy, punky bands that are on the bill and I think it adds for a little diversity and a modern touch to what's going on in that lineup. Not to say the other bands are old but in terms of what's happening these days there's just a handful of acts. It's good to have a bit of youth and some young bloods on the lineup."In the full interview, Blake talks about the bands he is looking forward to playing with, what the band will take out of performing alongside some heavyweights, where he sees Uncaged heading in the future, tips on lasting the day, what we can expect from their set, whether the band will be playing any new songs, their last single Silver & Gold and the response it received from Rolling Stone, future plans and more.

It's been so long. I wanted to play big time in 2020 but that was off the table, so I'm more than dying to get back on stage."W press further and ask whether he is more excited, nervous, r anxious about getting back out on stage again which brought a smile to Stevenson's face."All of the above,” he laughed. “We've got a new lineup of musicians so we've been doing a lot of practicing in preparation. It's been such a long time since we've been on stage, so definitely nervous, but excited. I'm sure it's going to be great."In the full interview, Rohan discusses the diverse line-up and where I Built The Sky fit in, the importance of homegrown festivals, who he is most looking forward to seeing, tips on how to last the festival without peaking too early, the possibility of new music being played at the shows, upcoming album The Quiet Place Away, future plans and more.
Hey, y'all. I am Shay. This is thebuzzr podcast. On air indie, from my pad to yours over the airways. Kingfisher is the new kid on the block, having formed in November 2021, but Joe, Brent, Dave, and Casey are veterans on the scene in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, making music both separately and together, for over 20 years! The band members grew up on The Ataris, Face to Face, Bodyjar, and while these songs were being written, they listened to a lot of Metal Blade era Goo Goo Dolls, Bob Mould/Sugar, and Hot Water Music, so if you like that stuff, this might just be up your alley. They just released the debut four song EP on January 7, 2022, blending 90's rock and punk roots with powerful pop hooks; Kingfisher has something for everyone!!! Tracks played tonight: “Another Way to Break Through” and “Minor League”. Both tracks found their way onto thebuzzr playlist. Thank you for tuning in. Enjoy the show! Cheers! Since bursting onto the scene with their 2009 self-titled debut EP, Gold Coast metal machine Azreal have been one of those bands whose reputation deservedly precedes them at every turn.Through countless shows on their home turf through to an international tour supporting the mighty Devildriver, Azreal have always maintained their sense of adventure and musical aggression, most notably with their astonishing ru of seven appearances at the Gold Coast's premiere music festival Wallapalooza. On the cusp of yet another appearance, HEAVY sat down with the entire band – vocalist Luke Hosking, drummer Chris Dennis, guitarist Jimmy Glinster and bass player Scott Campbell to see how they are feeling about playing at what will be the biggest Wallapalooza yet.Although not being on the initial line-up for the rescheduled event, Glinster is quick to point out Azreal is deservedly on the updated bill."Technically, we were on the line-up when it was due last September,” he corrected, “and then it got pushed back to November and we couldn't do it because of Chris' bucks party. As it turns out a couple of bands that were booked in dropped out, so..."This year Wallapalooza moves from its usual home at the Wallaby Hotel to the larger confines of the Mudgeeraba showgrounds, a move the band agrees was inevitable and also warranted."It's a well organised festival,” Hosking shrugged. “It always has a good turnout, it's always cranking, it's always got good local bands and it's a good fun scene. Everyone has a wicked time so they come back. There's never been a Walla that hasn't smashed it. Not that we've been at anyway.""Having done seven you can progressively see each year getting bigger and better and obviously this year bigger again," added Campbell. In the full interview the band chats about their time slot, the local bands on the bill, playing with some of the biggest names in Australian music, what the band has been doing in the five years since their last single Beast, possible new music, the Gold Coast metal scene and more.
On this weeks show, tracks from Bodyjar, The Devil Wears Prada, As It Is and The Maine. The post Our Mosh Pit – Season 15 Episode 10 appeared first on Our Mosh Pit.
It's the one where Aaron discovers Bodyjar, with guitarist Tom Read.Bodyjar is a pop punk band from Melbourne, Australia. Being a band that formed in 1990, they've been around for quite some time, and definitely don't fit the 'new band' mold that the Discovering series will take.Having said that, they're also a band who have been grinding for years (decades), and it's about time you know a little more about them!In this episode, Tom shares three albums that have influenced him as a musician, as well as 2 songs from the Bodyjar library.JOIN OUR PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/growingpunkpodJOIN OUR DISCORD: https://discord.com/invite/2UhJ7YxGRAB SOME MERCH: https://teespring.com/stores/growingpunkpodWEBSITE: https://growingpunkpod.comTWITTER: @growingpunkpodINSTAGRAM: @growingpunkpodFACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/growinguppunkpod/
Bodyjar are a band many of us grew up with; seeing them at all ages shows and festivals, hearing their music on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and voting them into many a Hottest 100. Eight years on from their last album, they're back with New Rituals, and on the day of it's release lead singer Cam Baines joined me to share his rituals across five songs. From their heroes Descendents, to the inspiration of Adalita, this is a coming of age story – not just of Cam, but all of us. Descendents – 'Coolidge' Ramones – 'Too Tough To Die' Face to Face – 'Disconnected' Magic Dirt – 'Ice' Brand New – 'Not The sun'

Melbourne punk outfit Bodyjar are probably more Australian than Vegemite, and definitely better! Not that comparing a band to a food spread is an apt way to pit two things against each other but you get the drill.Starting life back in 1990, Bodyjar have been the musical background for the life of many troubled and rebellious teens, with their single Not The Same the breakup song for many a jilted lover. After disbanding in 2009 before reforming three years later, Bodyjar released their last, and comeback album Role Model in 2013 and the prolonged absence since has seen many fans wondering if Bodyjar had finally called it a day.The band has emphatically refuted that thought with their upcoming album New Rituals which is set for release on February 4. It is everything you would expect and more from one of Australia's greatest punk stalwarts, with vocalist Cameron Baines sitting down with HEAVY to discuss the album and rebirth of Bodyjar."We were going for a bit of a noisier and angrier album,” he smiled. “Well, we weren't really going for that, but that's how it turned out (laughs). There's a lot of fast songs and a lot of political lyrics, a little bit more social lyrics and not as many love songs like Not The Same. We're massive fans of Descendants and all the bands like that that write songs about girls - I really dig that - but I think we're a bit older now and a lot of these songs lyrically are probably a little more interesting. There's also a cover of Dragon's Rain on there as well. Hopefully people dig it. If you like old Bodyjar stuff and if you like How It Works and all that, you'll dig this album. It's got a similar sonic sound to it. We're happy with how the mixes turned out. Sonically it's really strong."In the full interview, Cameron talks more about the songs on New Rituals, their cover of Rain and why they chose to record and release that track, the cover image and the interesting story behind it, the early days of Bodyjar and where they fit in, the longevity of Australian punk bands, the ability to have fun with your music and more.
Australian music is on the rise. With the world around us locked out and international bands no longer on the immediate touring circuit, music fans are being forced to look into our homegrown talent more than ever and the results are showing. Not only are our emerging bands receiving more exposure, but some of our seasoned campaigners are also benefitting from local interest.More recognizable bands like Frenzal Rhomb, Grinspoon and The Superjesus are back on the touring wheel and slaying it with each performance, but other bands from that era – that are just as good but not as much in the media spotlight – are also finding a resurgence in popularity. One of those is Tumbleweed who this year celebrate 30 years in the Australian music industry. It is a milestone shared by the above bands and more, and one which is richly deserved for Tumbleweed who have always maintained a strong presence despite never quite reaching the same heights. Tumbleweed will be touring as part of the Uncaged Festival early next year, joining Magic Dirt, Kingswood, The Getaway Plan, The Superjesus, Tumbleweed, Bodyjar, End Of Fashion, The Hard Ons, The Meanies and Twelve Foot Ninja plus a host of rising bands such as Psycroptic, These Four Walls, Dregg and Lagerstein.Front man Richie Lewis joined HEAVY to discuss Uncaged and 30 years as a rock band."Yeah I am,” he beamed when I mention they must be looking forward to sharing the stage with their mates again – old and new. “We sort of feel like we're arrows that have been pulled back on a bow waiting to be released. That's how we feel. It's a real cool festival. I like how it's diverse. It's got old people like us and some of my great friends like The Hard Ons, The Meanies and Magic Dirt, and it's got a whole bunch of young uns as well which I'm looking forward to. I think that's a great thing about festivals full stop is I'm always surprised by something so I'm looking forward to seeing some of the other stuff as well."With a well balanced line-up of the past, present, and future, it could be easy to see festivals such as Uncaged as something of a changing of the guard, but as Lewis points out is could also be something far more simple."Or an appreciation of rock as a genre,” he smiled. “A celebration of all of it and what we've got in this country at the moment. Most of those bands... The Hard Ons just put out a fantastic album, Meanies are always putting out something. Magic Dirt, us, we're still alive and we're still putting out stuff so I think it's really cool we aren't being caught up in this trap of being something for the latest up and coming thing and being on the cool crew or whatever. They want to spread their wings wide and brought in everything that they like about Australian music."In the full interview, Richie tells us who he is most looking forward to playing with at Uncaged, bringing through the next generation of music, the fact it is a 100% Australian line-up, celebrating 30 years as a band, Tumbleweed's new singles box set which comes out on November 26, their anniversary run of shows and more.

ROSS HETHERINGTON is the most approachable, the nicest, and lets be honest - one of the most enjoyable drummers ever in Australian Punk rock. His positive vibe is infectious, as is his passion for all types of music, and when i get the chance to sit down with him - you couldn't wipe the smile from my face. You can check out his band new band, The Riff Raiders on FACEBOOK - as well as his SOLO ALBUM HERE Also - details for SUNSTROKE's two track promo can be found HERE - with all profits going towards the Walnut Wellness Fund Check out other cool Podbelly Network podcasts @ www.podbelly.com Like what you hear? go to www.patreon.com/myagepodcast and sign up to support the cause! When you think of iconic Australian bands from the late 90's, you can't go past Grinspoon who have been tearing up stages for the better part of the past 24 years (yes we're including the hiatus too, eat me!) and they're set to do it all again celebrating their BEST songs for a special edition vinyl which will coincide with a massive Australian tour and this week frontman Phil Jamieson joins the show to talk all about it. Join podcast host Browny as he takes a look back at the band's two and a bit decades in the music industry and the pair reflect on where they've come from to what's next. Is there new music on the way? What hasn't Phil crossed off that "bucket list" yet and what about those rumours of him appearing on Australian Survivor last year? Were they true and would he consider it in future seasons? All that and more are covered in the pair' chat. Plus, we go wayyyyy back into the Australian music scene and revive songs from bands you probably haven't heard in a long time (or at all) including classics from TISM, Gyroscope, Lash, The Vines, Happyland, Kisschasy, Frenzal Rhomb, Killing Heidi, Silverchair, Regurgitator, Bodyjar, 28 Days, Wolfmother and the brand new single from The Butterfly Effect even gets a spin too. #WoSUATW #PhilJamieson #Grinspoon #ChemicalHeart #AustralianBands #TISM #Gyroscope #Bodyjar #28Days #Kisschasy #Happyland #TheVines #Lash #KillingHeidi #FrenzalRhomb #Regurgitator #Silverchair #Wolfmother #TheButterflyEffect #Hellyeah #Podcast #MusicPodcast #WallOfSoundAU
CAMERON BAINES has fronted one of Australia's favourite Punk Rock bands, who this year celebrate their 25th anniversary! Cam had too many stories that we decided we'd make this a two part episode... but the stories we did get - WHOA BABY! Driving around your musical idols in the boot of your car, consuming enough weed to make your producer unfit to work and travelling half way across the world with a mate as a 15 year old and happening to see a certain Ramones last performance with the band.Think this episode is worth $1? go to www.paypal.me/myagepodcast and support the cause!
Good morning, afternoon or evening folks. Hope we're all staying dry in this wild Perth weather. Boy do we have a cracker of an episode this fortnight, we've really punked it up, so strap yourselves in double time. As always, leave a comment below or if you're feeling really nice, head on over to iTunes and leave us a rating and review. Let us know what you like, or don't like, about the show. We're always looking at ways to improve. Oh, and while you're here, if you'd like to donate to Adam's push up efforts in this year's Push Up Challenge, hit this link. If you don't know what we're talking about, you'll have to listen to the show

Cam has returned from his trip to the U.K. and the boys are back in the studio to talk about the end of iTunes, Bodyjar's show with 28 Days and tour announcements from U2, The Dandy Warhols, Grinspoon, Frenzal Rhomb and the Melbourne Guitar Show. The guys also list their top 5 songs by The Beatles and feature new music from City and Colour, Moaning Lisa, Bad//Dreems, Bush, Yours Truly and Colibrium.
Steve and Cam look at the findings of an inquiry into the Australian music industry as well as Colonel Sanders appearance at the Ultra music festival in Miami. The guys also look at the Splendour in the Grass line-up, tour announcements from Bodyjar, 28 Days, Karnivool and Thy Art Is Murder, plus their Top 5 British albums.New music this week comes from Famous Will, Allipha, Chris Shiflett, Hamish Anderson, Forces & Fury and Fragile Animals.

Cam Baines fronts one of the most iconic punk rock acts to ever come out of Australia, Bodyjar. From touring with the likes of Blink-182, The Offspring and NOFX to recording some of the most revered Australian punk albums ever made it's little wonder this episode of Connect The Rock is bursting at the seams as Cam shares his musical links with us.
This week's #Ska Show with Beefy is jammed packed with skanking goodnees. Including the brand new release from Australia's own The Porkers, as well as belters from Madness, Monkey, Alla Spina, Maroon Town, Bazzookas, The Allniters, Less Than Jake, Desmond Dekker, Kujo Kings, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Prince Buster, Rancid, The Delirians, Coquettish, Save Ferris, Mad Caddies, Mustard Plug, Goldfinger, Area 7, Young Offenders, Bodyjar, Strange Tenants, Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Reel Big Fish, Itchy Feet, Contenders, Last Edition, 7 Seconds Of Love
Vi är tillbaka med det första vanliga avsnittet 2018. Frågan är om det blir så jävla vanligt ändå; Per har varit på Misfits, Robin har lyssnat på BodyJar och Marc gillar covers.
