GM Simon Williams returns to Perpetual Chess for the first time in several years. Simon is one of chess's most recognizable personalities, known as the Ginger GM through his work as a streamer, commentator, author and Chessable creator. He is also an accomplished tournament player, having shared first in the 2010 London Chess Classic and finished second in the 2004 British Championship. Simon joined me for a wide-ranging conversation covering both chess and life. We discussed: • His candid reflections on becoming involved with a pension company that later collapsed, the mistakes he made, and how he has worked to move forward • His new role helping revitalize Chesspublishing.com, and why he believes its archive of opening analysis remains an underappreciated resource • How modern opening preparation has changed, and why Simon increasingly relies on offbeat ideas to avoid preparation battles • His love of creative, attacking chess and the memorable games he has played at the Reykjavik Open We also discussed the Stonewall Dutch, rising British star Bodhana Sivanandan, the losses of IM Adam Hunt and GM Jonathan Hawkins, and even Simon's thoughts on Las Vegas. Eugene Amo-Dadzie has been fast his whole life. He knew it. His teachers knew it. His parents knew it.He just never actually tried. From the age of nine, Eugene was the fastest kid in the school. He grew up watching Usain Bolt and dreamed of the track. But running was always just a hobby — something to enjoy, never something to pursue. His parents pushed academics. His culture valued qualifications. And somewhere along the way, Eugene made a quiet peace with never finding out how good he actually was.For years he was the guy who said: if I had tried, I could have done it.Then, at 26, standing beside an athletics track in Woodford, his best friend turned to him and said: think you could put a pair of spikes on and beat these guys?In this Bite-Sized episode of Screw It Just DO It, Eugene tells the story of what happened when he finally said yes. A debut season that ended with a torn hamstring. A British Championship silver medal. A sub-10-second 100 metres. And a semi-final at the World Athletics Championships — where he lined up against the Olympic champion, the World champion, and the Commonwealth champion in the same race. All of it starting at 26. All of it built around a full-time accounting career, a wife, a daughter, and a job he loves.Key Takeaways- Why Eugene spent years believing in his talent without ever testing it — and what finally changed- What the Parable of the Talents taught him about buried potential- How to handle a setback that arrives before you have even properly started- What it takes to balance elite sport with a full-time career, a family, and faith

This week's Swift Half is equal parts banter and race talk. Alan, Ian, and Will Chung kick things off with a light‑hearted wedding special chat — champagne, milk, and grey‑hair jokes included — before diving head‑first into the latest obstacle‑racing updates. Will breaks down the London West Tough mudder design tweaks, from flinty ground challenges to revamped obstacles like Augustus Gloop and Shawshank, plus his Tough Mudder Trifecta medal reveal featuring new hex‑token designs and heavyweight belt buckles. The crew reviews London West, where elevation punished even the strongest contenders, and celebrates the global OCR boom with 14,000 racers in attendance and 2,000 athletes in Thailand take on their first Thailand Tough Mudder They cover the British Championship results — Dan Titcomb and Becky Neal taking top honours — and debate Spartan r pricing policy, calling out the £160 10K controversy. There's also a nod to Rachel's ultrarunning victory, Deadly Dozen updates, and a hilarious world‑record guessing game from the London Marathon (foam clogs, knights, and blindfolds all make an appearance). A packed, fast‑moving episode full of medals, mud, and mayhem — classic Swift Half energy with Will Chung back in the mix. What does resilience actually look like when pain isn't occasional - it's constant? Jak Fantastic has been kayaking since she was six years old, born with severely clubbed feet and limited mobility. By 14, she was on the GB Freestyle Kayak Team. By 19, she was facing hip dysplasia, multiple surgeries, and a prognosis that said she would never kayak again. She went eight years without paddling. And then, in 2018 - unable to walk - she got back in a boat. In 2025, Jak made the decision to amputate her leg, hoping it would give her back more of her life. Before her wound had fully healed, she was back on the water. A year later, she's running remote expeditions in India and competing at the highest levels of the sport. In this episode, Jak and Anna explore what it means to keep showing up when every day includes some form of pain - physical, emotional, or both. They talk about identity loss, the dark years when kayaking stopped being possible, and what finally cracked open the door to meditation after years of resistance (hint: it started in a yoga class in Rishikesh after a Christmas that broke her open). This is one of the most honest conversations about discomfort, courage, and the choice to keep going that we've had on this show. In this episode: Why Jak says discomfort isn't the obstacle — it's just life, and how that shift changed everything The eight years she spent away from kayaking and what it took to find her way back How grief, a solo trip to India, and one quiet moment in the mountains cracked open her meditation practice Living with phantom limb pain after amputation — and what sitting with pain (instead of fighting it) has taught her What the whitewater community needs to do to make the sport more accessible for differently abled paddlers Press play and spend an hour in the discomfort zone with someone who lives there every day, and continues to choose it powerfully. About Jak Fantastic: Jak Fantastic is a British whitewater kayaker, adaptive sports advocate, and expedition paddler with over 30 years on the water. A former GB Freestyle Team member, she competed at the 2023 World Freestyle Championships and has podium finishes at World Cups and British Championships. She paddles with one leg, an ADHD brain, a dry sense of humor, and zero interest in being told what she can't do.
On Friday March the 20th 2026 at the 118th British artistic gymnastics championships we had the opportunity to interview some of the biggest names in the sport. In 2026 we will see three major championships take place and the official LA 2028 Olympic selection process will begin at the World championships in Rotterdam. Heading into the weekend we have three different men toping the home Nations competitions in the all around standings in Adam Tobin, Reuben Ward and Jonas Rushworth. Following the podium training session today it became clear that Jake Jarman will be competing on all six events for the first time since the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Max Whitlock makes his return to the M&S bank arena as he continues his comeback push towards his fifth Olympic Games. Harry Hepworth is planning to perform not one but two of the most difficult vaults in the world which would put him ahead of both Jake Jarman and Carlos Yulo in terms of his difficulty. Luke Whitehouse will be motivated to build upon another incredible year in 2025 after winning European gold & World silver and look to produce strong performances across multiple apparatus. Joe Fraser will be hoping to challenge for the all around title and showcase world class gymnastics on his favoured events. It's going to be an incredible weekend with live gymnastics on the BBC iPlayer at 2:55PM on Saturday the 21st of March. Thank you to all of the athletes that generously gave up their time to chat with us today and supporters of the podcast that stopped to say hello. And this is their story.

In this episode of the Trackstaa Podcast, Lucy and Rich break down the biggest moments from the British Championships and what they mean for the future of British athletics. They dive into Keely Hodgkinson's statement performance ahead of Liévin, discussing her growing world record ambitions, while also highlighting the confidence boost for Izzy Boffey after her breakthrough sub two minute run. The conversation celebrates Hannah Nuttall's championship record performance, ending a 24 year wait, but also questions the overall depth of competition, particularly in a men's 1500m final that lacked numbers and intensity.Beyond the racing itself, Lucy and Rich reflect on the noticeably low crowd attendance and debate the controversial use of wave lights in championship finals. They also touch on promising marathon debuts from Ellis Cross and Sarah Astin, assess strong early season 5K performances, and consider the growing recognition of Laura Muir as a serious road racing threat. From standout performances to bigger questions about the sport's direction, this episode delivers honest analysis and bold takes on where British athletics is heading next.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-running-pod-trackstaa/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Rally driver, Team Owner, Broadcaster. And he’s good at all of ‘em! Recorded at the www.maximummotorsport.com.au workshop in Perth, Dean recalls his earliest memories of his Dad’s rallying and the impact it had. (You can find Rob’s ep in our library and it’s a three parter too). These days Dean runs Maximum with one eye on the history and legacy of what his Dad built and the other eye on taking the business in a direction that is part race and rally car preparation as well as a proud official Subaru Motorsport Parts distributor. How it all started for Dean with some paddock bashing to taking their own car to the UK for an assault on the British Championship. In January 2025 I sent out an email to all the contacts I still have in sports media and broadcasting. This is something I've done now for the past four years but have had a very limited success. However this year British gymnastics contacted me to see if I would like to be part of the live broadcasting team, covering the British gymnastics championships which would be shown live on the BBC. Alongside Sydney Davis in the studio we covered the British championships all around event and apparatus finals. It was an incredible opportunity for me to share my gymnastics knowledge and watch some of the best gymnasts in Great Britain from the best seats in the house. As a young athlete I was inspired by watching and listening to the great Mitch Fenner commentate on the performances of my childhood heroes. And this is my story.

In March 2025 the 117th British gymnastics championships took place in Liverpool at the M&S Bank arena. We were kindly invited by the British gymnastics media team to attend the Podium training session and had the opportunity to interview some of the top male gymnasts competing. The British all around men's gymnastics title is the most prestigious domestic trophy in Great Britain and the winner is awarded the original trophy from 1896. This championships marks the start of a brand new Olympic cycle as the journey towards the LA 2028 Olympic Games begins. Jamie Lewis recently became the English champion and went into this event as the firm favourite to claim his first senior British title. Luke Whitehouse the double European champion on floor and Paris 2024 Olympic finalist has ambitions to challenge on all six events. First year senior gymnast Jonas Rushworth is an extremely exciting talent, who is hoping to impress with his beautifully technical style of gymnastics. Courtney Tulloch is now a Dad and the changes to the rules in the new code of points, has played a key role in his decision to continue in the sport. Harry Hepworth has big plans to challenge for major championship medals on all three of his favoured apparatus moving forwards following his historic Olympic vault medal in Paris. Jake Jarmin is now a vastly experienced athlete having competed at multiple Olympic Games. His motivations are to challenge for World and Olympic all around honours in the next chapter of his career. And these are their stories.
The British Championships are here, so is the Antalya World Cup, Josh Karnes set a new season record on parallel bars and Rhys McClenaghan won Dancing with the Stars Ireland. For those new here, I'm Kensley the host of Neutral Deductions a Podcast all about men's gymnastics. What motivates an Olympian when faced with setbacks? In this episode, three-time Olympian and renowned Scottish athlete Eilish McColgan delves into the various aspects of her athletic career. Eilish discusses her upbringing in a family of elite runners, her experiences dealing with challenging injuries, and her approach to training and competing. Eilish shares how her parents—both accomplished athletes—nurtured her love for running without imposing pressure, allowing her to pursue the sport on her own terms. Despite encountering mental and physical hurdles, such as a critical injury prior to the London Marathon, Eilish persevered through a difficult recovery marked by misdiagnoses and setbacks, which strengthened her mental resilience and shaped her approach to overcoming obstacles. Discussing her evolution in training, Eilish highlights the importance of integrating cross-training and recovery strategies into her regimen to manage her workload effectively. The Lever, a key tool in her recovery phases, aids in adjusting training intensity and volume to prevent recurring injuries. Eilish also stresses the significance of maintaining a healthy balance between athletic pursuits and personal well-being, advising against sacrificing life's joys for sporting success. Looking ahead to the upcoming Paris Olympics, Eilish shares her aspirations, detailing her current training focuses and the strategic preparations she and her team are undertaking to ensure peak performance. Her balanced approach to sport and career exemplifies her role as a model of resilience in professional athletics. Quotes “I'm not someone who goes to bed dreaming of becoming an Olympic champion or anything like that. I've never, ever been that type of person. I literally just enjoy trying to run my own PB, whether I come first in a race or last in a race, but I've run a PB, that for me is what is the motivating factor. I like that feeling of pushing yourself and knowing that you've done it.” (02:54 | Eilish McColgan) “As an athlete, I always want to keep pushing, I want to do more.” (09:06 | Eilish McColgan) “Now I have a much better balance with my training of recovery, of having a day off every week, using things like the lever, just small things like that, just reducing my load.” (11:49 | Eilish McColgan) “Cross-training is a huge part of my program. I'd say over the last five years that's been implemented and has just completely changed the way that I train. (12:01 | Eilish McColgan) “The hardest part is getting a qualifying time. There's not a huge amount of 10k races of that high level across the world. To be able to have my time and know that that's banked is definitely a good feeling. Obviously, because I've been injured, I still need to show fitness and form towards my federation, so I have until the end of June to do that. We have our British Championships at the very end of June, so it'll be up to me to try and prove that I'm... I don't need to be breaking records and setting PBs, but I certainly need to show that I am moving towards that Olympic standard again.” (33:19 | Eilish McColgan) Links Connect with Eilish McColgan: https://www.instagram.com/eilishmccolgan/ https://www.instagram.com/levermovement/ https://www.instagram.com/bradmiles/ https://levermovement.com/ Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

They're joined in the studio by Aquatics GB CEO Drew Barrand. Together they discuss the fallout from the Chinese doping story; and the CEO response to scandal: the motivating factors behind any move or statement and the stakeholder sensitivities that have to be accounted for. Meanwhile, Cushnan had a front row seat for the premiere of the third part of Thomas Bach's Olympic Agenda trilogy: the IOC's AI Agenda, and he liked what he saw. Plus, why the NGB equation of performance + governance = not a lot of room for much else has to change; and what Aquatics GB are doing with the data behind the 550,000 streams of the recent British Championships. The agenda's out for 4se New York, our sports, media, brands and popular culture show, examining the spaces where sport, lifestyle, culture and entertainment are intersecting. There's still time to join us in New York on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd May - visit 4-se.com for more details.

In 2006 David Eaton won a silver medal on the High Bar at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne for team Wales. He represented Great Britain throughout the 1990's and early 2000's and competed at the gymnastics world championships in 2001 shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks took place in America. Dave's career bridged two generations and he was part of the British team that failed to qualify for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. He went on to be an early component in the beginning of what became the golden generation of men's gymnastics in Great Britain. An opportunity to study and train in California early in his career in part led to the birth of TURN. Which is now the leading men's gymnastics brand globally. Dave was invited to watch the recent British Championships that took place in Liverpool thanks to the All Around British title he won back in 2001. And this is his story.
