On this week's episode M&B are hopping into Spring with a Northern Virginia urban legend based on the true story of a hatchet wielding man dressed as a bunny. Then a review of a new Easter classic, "The Bunny Man."

Legend has it that in the '70s, there was this dude in a bunny suit terrorizing people with an axe. Like, imagine encountering a fluffy bunny with a weapon – nightmare material, right? The story goes that he escaped from a mental institution, and now he's haunting this bridge, or at least that's the spooky tale locals tell. Some say it's just an urban legend, but others swear they've seen the Bunny Man lurking around. Whether it's a creepy myth or a bunny with a dark side, Virginia's Bunny Man story is definitely not your average campfire tale. You and your best friend are driving around listening to the hit song of the summer “Take Me Home, Country Roads”, complaining about how you were so close to being mentioned in the song. As you approach a tunnel on the road, your headlights illuminate a figure in the distance. JUST THEN, the radio cuts to an announcer who announced the following announcement, “This just in, escaped mental patient loose in Fairfax County. Do not approach as they are considered armed and dangerous. The patient is described as being 6'2”, 300 pounds, and dressed in a full bunny costume. Though this may sound like a joke, please heed my warning. Stay safe out there.” You and your friends turned to each other in disbelief, but after turning back, the figure in the distance was gone. You rev the engine and floor it, speeding as fast your car will let you into the tunnel. But on the other side the figure can be seen again, and this time so can the tall bunny ears coming off the figure's head. Before you and your friend can't process what's happening, an ax comes flying through the windshield, landing squarely in your friend's skull. You try to escape but hopping toward you comes the giant rabbit, laughing as he removes the ax and proceeds to make you his next victim. Jeff eagerly (a little too eagerly, Dave might say) drags us into those liminal spaces as we recount the odd tale of the hatchet-wielding, murderous Bunnyman of Clifton, Virginia who creepily lies in wait at the train trestle known as Bunnyman Bridge. All kinds of questions to tackle here: Why do so many urban legends take place at bridges and crossroads? Why are so many of the creatures involved “composite monsters”? Could we see kids visiting these creepy sites at midnight as a kind of “do-it-yourself” coming of age ritual? Why are most urban legends not “urban”?
