In Changed Lives, Pastor David teaches from Ephesians 2 to show how God's grace transforms us from who we once were into who He has called us to be. This message reminds us that we are saved not by our works, but by God's mercy and love. Through Christ, our past no longer defines us—we are made alive, renewed, and given purpose. This sermon encourages believers to walk confidently in their new life and live out the good works God has prepared for them.

In this episode of the Thinking Talmudist Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores Tractate Baba Metzia 84a, focusing on a Talmudic discussion about Rabbi Yochanan's exceptional beauty and its spiritual implications. The episode delves into the concept of the evil eye, the influence of parental thoughts on conception, and the responsibility to use one's gifts thoughtfully. Key points include:Rabbi Yochanan's Beauty: Rabbi Yochanan claims to be the last of Jerusalem's beautiful people, described vividly: a silver goblet filled with pomegranate seeds, crowned with roses, and placed between sun and shade reflects a fraction of his radiance. The Talmud questions this, noting Rav Kahana's beauty resembled Rav Avohu's, which resembled Yaakov's, which resembled Adam's. Rabbi Yochanan's distinction was his beardless face, enhancing his radiant appearance.Mikvah Practice: Rabbi Yochanan sat at the women's mikvah entrance so that women, emerging from ritual immersion, would see him and retain his image, influencing their conception to produce beautiful, Torah-learned children. This mirrors Yaakov's use of streaked rods to influence sheep traits. Rabbi Wolbe defends this as a responsible use of his gift, not arrogance, citing his grandfather's teaching that knowing and using one's virtues is an obligation, akin to knowing one's wealth to give charity.Evil Eye Concerns: The sages question if Rabbi Yochanan feared the evil eye from displaying his beauty. He responds that, as a descendant of Yosef, he is immune, per Genesis 49:22 (“Yosef is a charming son, above the eye”) and 49:24 (likening Yosef's progeny to fish, hidden from the evil eye). Rabbi Wolbe explains the evil eye's real impact: flaunting wealth or beauty can cause jealousy, stress, or harm in others, affecting their relationships or finances.Practical Lessons: Rabbi Wolbe shares anecdotes to illustrate avoiding the evil eye: his father's choice of a modest Toyota Camry over a Lincoln Town Car to avoid neighbors' jealousy, and leaving a broken blinker light to deter envy. He recounts Marvy Finger's mentor, a wealthy man flying coach to avoid wasteful display, emphasizing humility and consideration for others' feelings.Broader Message: The episode underscores the responsibility to use God-given gifts (beauty, wealth) for positive impact while avoiding harm through jealousy. Rabbi Yochanan's actions aimed to inspire righteousness, not pride. Rabbi Wolbe urges mindfulness of how one's actions affect others, promoting sensitivity in a world prone to envy and comparison. The episode concludes with a blessing for a wonderful Shabbos and a call to share Torah content._____________The Thinking Talmudist Podcast shares select teachings of Talmud in a fresh, insightful and meaningful way. Send us a textWhen Taylor Barlow decided to take on a pro bono asylum case, he never imagined it would become the most emotionally significant work of his legal career. His client's story reads like a political thriller – a peaceful activist from Togo who organized an 800,000-person march against a dictatorial regime, only to face years of brutal retaliation including kidnappings, beatings, and torture. After military police broke into his home, beating him and his young son unconscious, this father of two made the heartbreaking choice to leave his family behind and flee for his life. What followed was a harrowing two-month journey through South and Central America, including the notoriously deadly Darién Gap jungle crossing, where "one in three migrants die." Twice kidnapped in Mexico before finally reaching the U.S. border, he was immediately detained and placed in removal proceedings. This episode takes listeners deep into the complex, often misunderstood asylum process. We witness Barlow's fight against nearly impossible odds – a 90-minute hearing (reduced from four hours) to present a decade of persecution, technical legal barriers because his client crossed without an appointment, and the gut-wrenching realization that even proving all elements of asylum might not be enough as "asylum is completely discretionary."The emotional climax comes when Barlow's rarely successful motion for reconsideration is granted, securing his client's freedom and future. Beyond the legal victory, we glimpse the profound human impact as this new asylee sends his attorney a poignant photo of himself standing beneath an American flag on July 4th – a man who nearly died for the freedom to protest now finding refuge in a nation founded on that very principle. What makes this story so compelling is how it puts a human face on asylum policy while showcasing the life-changing impact of pro bono legal work. As Barlow reflects, "This mattered to this guy and it mattered to his wife and to his little kids... I saw myself and I saw my kids in him and his kids."Have you ever wondered what rights we take for granted? Listen now and consider what price others pay for freedoms we exercise daily without a second thought.

Your words are powerful enough to make a point and to build people up. But, in a world full of noise, what if our greatest superpower isn’t volume, but grace and curiosity? This Sunday, we’re talking about how knowing the way we speak can change our relationships, but knowing the way people listen to us can change our lives. Maybe the apostle Paul, Ted Lasso, and Jesus have more in common than we expected.

John 4 : 1 - 42 1 Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John 2 (though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples), 3 He left Judea and departed again to Galilee. 4 But He needed to go through Samaria. 5 So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink." 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. 9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, "Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." 11 The woman said to Him, "Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? 12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?" 13 Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." 15 The woman said to Him, "Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw." 16 Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come here." 17 The woman answered and said, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You have well said, "I have no husband,' 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly." 19 The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship." 21 Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." 25 The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When He comes, He will tell us all things." 26 Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He." 27 And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with a woman; yet no one said, "What do You seek?" or, "Why are You talking with her?" 28 The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 "Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?" 30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him. 31 In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, "Rabbi, eat." 32 But He said to them, "I have food to eat of which you do not know." 33 Therefore the disciples said to one another, "Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?" .............

What is multiplication in a spiritual sense? It's a little hard to define but it simply means supernatural exponential growth. 8+8=16 but 8x8=64. The Bible uses words like progress, expansion, increase, overflow. So, let's do a quick walk through the Bible and look at a few different multiplication verses... Genesis 1:28 - Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it.” 1 Chronicles 4:10 - And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested. Psalm 23:5 - ...You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Matthew 14:19-21 - And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children. But my favorite multiplication story involves THE CHURCH! Jesus said... Jesus - “...I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18) And all the way up to today! The church is multiplying! Contrary to what you might hear on the news, Christianity is exploding. Think about this, there are more Christians on the earth right now than in all of church history (2.6 Billion). Every day it is estimated 250,000 people come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Think about this, the largest Muslim nation, which is Indonesia is experiencing massive revival and some estimate they country is now over 35% Christian. The truth is, multiplication is happening all over the world. I want to teach on 4 metaphors the Bible uses to describe the church...I love these and I try to teach on them once a year in our church... It's a HOUSE. The House of God! A specific place...A place of miracles and life change! Psalm 26:8 - Lord, I love the house where you live, the place where your glory dwells. Some people say that buildings don't matter. You've probably heard people say, “The church isn't a building, it's people.” I get what they're saying, but Biblically and historically, God's people have always gathered to worship in big gatherings at specific places. To God, it has always been about a people and a place. From The Tabernacle that Moses built to The Temple that Solomon built. It's a HOME. The truth is, what makes church great is you! Of course you've heard the old adage...it may be a HOUSE but it's not necessarily a HOME. The difference maker is THE PEOPLE. You're the ones who make it a home! It's your heart and your spirit. And I just wanted to give a big thank you to all of you who serve week in and week out and make this house a home. It's a PILLAR. 1 Timothy 3:15 - ...God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. A pillar represents strength. It's one of the things I love about the church. It's a place of strength. Strong Worship. God's Word preached with strength. Strong Atmosphere...you can just feel it lift you up! It's an ATMOSPHERE. There's just something about the atmosphere of the House of God. Something special and powerful about the local church... Psalm 92:12-14 - The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green. Seed and Soil Think about the atmosphere OUR CHURCH values An Atmosphere of Hospitality. An Atmosphere of God's Presence. An Atmosphere of Salvation. An Atmosphere of Generosity. An Atmosphere of Expansion. An Atmosphere of Changed Lives.

Hi, I'm John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you're listening to Share Life Today. “What impact could I possibly make?” Have you ever felt that way before? Well, Isabella certainly did. But she stepped outside her comfort zone and attended an evangelism discipleship training in Arizona. She went out into the community with a team and spoke to a man named Chris. They asked him two great questions: if he knew for sure he'd go to Heaven one day, and if he stood before God and God asked why He should let Chris into Heaven, what would he say? Well, Chris's answer was like so many others - he was trusting in his own good works to get him into Heaven, and he hoped it would be enough. Isabella was able to share that our works will never be enough, but placing our faith in Jesus alone to save us is all we need. I'm happy to tell you that Chris put his faith in Jesus that day! And it didn't only change his life, it changed Isabella's as well. Get started in sharing your faith by visiting our website at www.sharelife.today.
