Spoiler Warning! Chris and Taylor review the new Showtime crime drama series "Dexter: New Blood" developed by Clyde Phillips. Set 10 years after the events of "Dexter," Dexter Morgan now lives in the small town of Iron Lake, New York under the name Jim Lindsay, where he has successfully repressed his dark passenger and seemingly lives a normal life...but all that is due to change with the arrival of his estranged son Harrison. The series stars Michael C. Hall, Jack Alcott, Julia Jones, Johnny Sequoyah, Alano Miller, Jennifer Carpenter and Clancy Brown.
You know that Clyde Phillips produced some of the world's most beloved series; Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Suddenly Susan and Nurse Jackie. But what you don't know is that the Dexter producer is an avid collector of string instruments? He joined hosts Clare Kramer and David Magidoff on a special minisode to tell us all about the pawn shop purchase that started it all, the other exotic instruments he owns, and how a guitar helps him watch TV! Still reeling from that shocking Dexter finale? We've got Dexter: New Blood showrunner Clyde Phillips joining us for our recap of the final episode. Then we're joined by Harrison himself, Jack Alcott. When we first met him on Dexter: New Blood, he mocked Michael C. Hall for bowling, but in real life Jack Alcott loves it! We're talking professional level here people. That's right he was ranked in a competitive bowling league when he played in high school. Listen in as he tells hosts Clare Kramer and David Magidoff about his bowling triumphs, and whether he's ever had a Perfect Game. He also names the big “No No's” of America's indoor pastime on Fanaddicts!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Dexter is back! Showtime's beloved serial killer returns in a new limited series, and original showrunner Clyde Phillips wants to right some of the wrongs of the controversial season finale. "It's no secret that the final season was a great disappointment,” Clyde tells Write On. “In fact, if you look up 'Worst series finales ever,' Dexter will show up on every top ten list… we felt, collectively, that we owed a very faithful fanbase another shot." Clyde goes into detail about what it takes to write a show like Dexter: "By the time we start really breaking down the show, we know how it's going to end, and it's what I call 'Putting your nose against the white board' where the ending is and walking backwards. All of these doors are on either side like a hotel hallway, and each one of those doors is an episode, and then you get back to episode one - room one - and you start building the show." Dexter is an American crime drama mystery television series that aired on Showtime from October 1, 2006, to September 22, 2013.[1] Set in Miami, the series centers on Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a forensic technician specializing in bloodstain pattern analysis for the fictional Miami Metro Police Department, who leads a secret parallel life as a vigilante serial killer, hunting down murderers who have slipped through the cracks of the justice system. The show's first season was derived from the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter (2004), the first in a series of novels by Jeff Lindsay. It was adapted for television by James Manos Jr., who wrote the first episode. Subsequent seasons evolved independently of Lindsay's works. In February 2008, reruns (edited down to a TV-14 rating) began to air on CBS in the wake of the shortage of original programming ensuing from the 2007–08 Writers Guild of America strike, thus the reruns on CBS ended after one run of the first season. The series enjoyed mostly positive reviews throughout its run and popularity. The first four seasons have received universal acclaim, although reception dropped drastically as the series progressed. The show has also won many awards, including two Golden Globes won by Hall and John Lithgow for their roles as Dexter Morgan and Arthur Mitchell, respectively. Season four aired its season finale on December 13, 2009, to a record-breaking audience of 2.6 million viewers, making it the most-watched original series episode ever on Showtime at that time.[2][3] In April 2013, Showtime announced that season eight would be the final season of Dexter.[4] The season-eight premiere was the most watched Dexter episode with more than 3 million viewers total for all airings that night.[5] The original broadcast of the series finale—shown at 9 pm on September 22, 2013—drew 2.8 million viewers, the largest overall audience in Showtime's history.[6] In October 2020, it was announced that Dexter would return with a 10-episode limited series, starring Michael C. Hall in his original role, with Clyde Phillips returning as showrunner. It is slated to premiere in late 2021.[7]
