Pete is a New York headshot and portrait Photographer and musician. Peter started photography and music at the same time as a teenager. As a musician Pete is a Jazz musician. And he spent lots of time learning the music of the Jazz masters. He spent time working out bass lines of great jazz music. As you do this over time you start to absorb their work into your style and then develop your own style. And Pete then took this approach to photography. First he started working with New York headshot and portrait Photographer and musicians Peter started photography and music at the same time as a teenager. As a musician Pete is a Jazz musician. And he spent lots of time learning the music of the Jazz masters. He spent time working out bass lines of great jazz music. As you do this over time you start to absorb their work into your style and then develop your own style. And Pete then took this approach to photography. First he started working with Peter Hurley doing what Peter told him and absorbing his style. He then moved on to working with Ivan Weiss. Over time he has worked with others and used these to develop his own style. Sam asks how you can learn from a photographer at a distance if you can't speak to them. Pete says he did this with Dan Winters and he did work on replicating one of his photographs, from the composition to the lighting to every other element. He says you will learn so much more from this than looking at it in a book. Marcus thinks that photographers don't look at their history in the same way that musicians do. Pete says to be really good you need to go back and study the past masters before you can move forward with new style. He also says you can't bypass this process. You can go back before photography and study art as well. Pete says he came into photography through mentorship, no training. This has become easier with digital technology so you can work with photographers in different parts of the world. Pete now coaches photographers himself and he has a Facebook group associated with this. They discuss the similarities between Spotify in music and stock libraries in photography. Pete thinks it's best to avoid both as they are a very hard way to make money. Pete says professionalism is important both in music and photography. He has been at gigs where people turn up late, don't dress appropriately and more. It's important that you realise in both cases this is a business and you need to carefully think about that. He says some photographers don't return peoples phone calls. That is bad practice, gives a bad impression and loses you work. Marcus suggests that like musicians concerts are an experience, a photoshoot should be an experience. Sam takes us back to the discussion about Spotify and Shutter Stock and says whenever you use a platform go in with your eyes wide open as that will always be making money for the platform rather than you. Sometimes the platform is useful enough to make it worthwhile but be aware of that the platform are getting from that. Marcus has a selection of Photographers who are musiciansMilt Hinton is one that Pete comes up with. He documented his life in images. A HANDY MAN—Photographers are gearheads. They're always throwing around brand names, model numbers, product specs. So when legendary photographer Eddie Adams asked today's guest, Dan Winters, if he knew how to handle a JD-450, it was a no-brainer. He had grown up with a JD-350. So yeah, the 450 would be no problem. But here's the funny thing: the JD-450 is not made by Nikon. Or Canon. Or Fuji. Or Leica. Not even his beloved Hasselblad. Nope. The JD-450 isn't made in Tokyo, Wetzlar, or Gothenburg. The John Deere 450 bulldozer is made in Dubuque, Iowa, USA.And what Eddie Adams urgently needed right at that moment, was someone to backfill, level, and compact a trench at his farm, which, coincidentally, was prepping to host the first-ever Eddie Adams Workshop, the world-renowned photojournalism seminar, at his farm in Sullivan County, New York, near the site of the 1969 Woodstock music festival.Get to know Dan Winters a little bit, and none of this will come as a surprise to you. It also won't surprise you that the bulldozer incident isn't even the funniest part of the story of how Winters got to New York City in 1988 to launch what has become one of the most distinguished careers in the history of editorial photography. A career which began with his first job at the News-Record, a 35,000-circulation newspaper in Thousand Oaks, California. The secret—spoiler alert—to his remarkable career, Winters will say, “is based in a belief that I'm being very thorough with my pursuits and being very realistic. I'm not lying to myself about the effort I'm putting into it. Because this is not a casual pursuit at all. This is 100 percent commitment.”Well, that, and out-of-this-world talent and vision. Photography is an art. And if you think about it, film and television, is a series of shots in movement.  I was honored to chat with Dan Winters, a legend in the world of  professional photography who crafts narratives with the click of his shutter.Winters has photographed public figures ranging from the Dalai Lama to President Barack Obama, Hollywood celebrities from Leonardo DiCaprio to Helen Mirren, and artistic luminaries from Jeff Koons to William Christenberry. In our heartfelt conversation, Dan imparts his artistic philosophy, detailing the intricacies of incorporating objects into his portraits to tell richer stories. He takes us behind the scenes of his meticulously planned shoots, including the awe-inspiring NASA launches, and reflects on his personal connections to his subjects, from shipyards to the vast expanse of space. In the new Nat Geo Series "Photographer"  Dan Winters episode, “Life is Once. Forever.,” has premiered  at South by Southwest on March 11 and is available to stream on Disney Plus and Hulu.Because I love getting to the "heart" of  the arts, Dan opens up about the peaks and valleys of his journey with bipolar disorder. He talks candidly about the choice to remain anchored in the present, the pursuit of stability, and the indispensable role of his support network. Dan Winter has worked for over four decades on the frontiers of consciousness studies from the perspective of an electrical engineer. He has encountered and/or collaborated with cutting-edge pioneers such as Andrija Puharich, Marcel Vogel, Itzhak Bentov and Tom Bearden in understanding the principles and applications of longitudinal waves (scalar waves), implosive forces, brain waves, the Kundalini force, and the Schuman Resonance. In his first Exopolitics Today interview, Winters discusses his scientific background and collaboration with various consciousness researchers. He explains how advanced technologies based on longitudinal waves/antigravity have been operationalized by different groups such as Nazi Germany, secret space programs and extraterrestrial intelligences. He gives a unique perspective on contemporary exopolitical issues such as space arks, hibernating Anunnaki scientists, and the Halls of Amenti. He finally discusses his scientific testing of a secret space program witness, Jean Charles Moyen, who simulated a teleportation experience while his brainwaves were being measured. Winters' positive test results support Moyen's incredible claims of teleporting to four space arks, two of which were physically corroborated by a former French archaeologist Elena Danaan. The REIT industry is likely to see additional gains in GRESB performance in the years ahead, given that a number of listed REITs appeared in the benchmark for the first time this past year, says Dan Winters, senior director at GRESB.Speaking on the REIT Report, Winters noted that in general, GRESB scores start to ramp up in year two and year three, “so I'm really expecting some additional increases in the REIT score in the years ahead.”Winters also discussed how a flight to quality real estate assets is likely to characterize the next several years, with companies needing to offer a superior investment and occupant experience to maintain competitiveness.Winters said that achieving those aims requires “a solid ESG program that's continuing to advance.” He added that the biggest threat to ESG is inertia, but that in the current economic climate the real estate industry is more likely to accelerate ESG-oriented efforts than pull back.

A few months ago, I attended a talk that Dan Winters gave at the Smithsonian and one of the things that struck me straight away was the language he used to describe his relationship to his work. I've been a fan for years and own a few of his books, but I never had the opportunity to hear him speak before. There's such emotion and romance in how he relates to his work, especially in the making or the doing as he calls it. Words like “reverence” and “gratitude” are used often and as you'll hear in this conversation, these aren't simply buzzwords. They apply equally whether he's shooting a campaign for a client or walking by himself through the streets of New York with a 50mm lens and a few rolls of Tri-X. There's an incredible authenticity to Dan that seems to pervade his entire life, from the work that he does to the people and things he surrounds himself with. I began by asking Dan where his love of making began and how he stays connected to it 30 years in. LINKSKazimer MalevichChris CallisHarry CallahanW.
