The Power Of Belief With JOSH GROVE From DARK BELOW

HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Kris PetersAfter putting in the hard yards for the last six years, Columbia heavy rock outfit Dark Below are now finally starting to see the fruit of those efforts.Opening for the likes of Buckcherry, Saliva, Pop Evil, Smile Empty Soul, The Veer Union and more, Dark Below steadily released a procession of singles such as Halo, Tense and Hate Being Human, in the process capitalising on their rise to prominence as a touring band by backing it up with quality releases.Their latest single Make Believe has given that push added impetus, with bass player Josh Grove joining HEAVY to tell us more."It's been fantastic," he enthused at how the new single is going. "So, our latest single recordings that we've done, working on the new album essentially, we just started pushing our album towards things like the SMR charts here in the US. Make Believe has been our third single, our most recent release, and it's hit number 10. Our goal has always been to break the Top 10 from the get-go, so to be up top there with bands we've grown up listening to and idolised like Metallica and Foo Fighters… to get up there with names like that has been pretty phenomenal."In the full interview, Josh talks us through Make Believe musically, what the song is about, the previous two singles released and if the three tracks form part of a bigger picture, the early days of the band and where they fit in, their early vision and how it has changed since, how the new batch of music differs to music on their debut self-titled EP, how the single Tense broke Dark Below into more mainstream channels, future plans and more.

Films like Mimesis: Night Of The Living Dead, Mimesis: Nosferatu and his experimental thriller The Dark Below show a director who wants to push the boundaries of low-budget storytelling with interesting and creative concepts. Douglas has now brought his new horror film, Thorns to FrightFest. A 1980s inspired genre film, Thorns has hints of Alien, The Thing and Hellraiser. A throwback piece, it's filled with practical effects and plenty of eye-watering moments of gore. Finally, Douglas Schulze joins the Movies In Focus podcast to talk about Thorns, his career as a low budget director and the highs of lows of independent filmmaking

Josh from Dark Below sat down for chat about the bands newest single Tense. Dark Below is a hard-hitting heavy rock band that brings intense energy in their music and live performances while providing rhythmic songs that people can sing along to. Formed in Columbia, MO, the band signed with Nashville based JPS Productions in 2014. The current lineup has been together since 2016 and includes Josh Campbell (Guitar/Vocals), Josh Grove (Bass/Backing Vocals), and Quin Koldan (Drums). New single “Tense” was produced by Jason Schrick and award-winning producer Malcolm Springer (Matchbox 20, Collective Soul, Fear Factory). After years of preparation, the band is ready to vault to the national scene and beyond. Explaining the genesis of “Tense” Campbell says “The song is about health anxiety/hypochondria and describes the feelings and struggles that are associated with the condition. We want people to know it's OK not to be OK, and that we all have periods of stress, doubt and worry. We're lucky to have this creative outlet of music to help express those emotions and we hope it resonates with fans”. Dark Below came together from a Craigslist post that Josh Campbell made in search of musicians for a hard rock band. Josh Grove was friends with the band members and was hanging out a rehearsal one day. Grove was a guitarist – but after hearing Campbell and the original drummer talking about needing a bass player, he volunteered to give it a go. Campbell says “I didn't really want to sing originally but we couldn't find anyone, so with me singing and playing guitar, Grove on bass, and the original drummer we started playing shows in the Columbia area”. After the original drummer left the band, Quin Koldan joined in 2016 to solidify the current lineup. The band has previously released their self-titled EP in 2017, and the single “Halo” in 2019. They have toured for the past 5 years, opening for Buckcherry, Saliva, Pop Evil, Smile Empty Soul, The Veer Union, and more. A new full-length album is currently being recorded, which is also being produced by Schrick and Springer. The band is currently booking dates to begin playing live to support the new music in the fall.

Can Raid Lairs actually work in Destiny 2 or will this end up being another Crota's End, a very short raid more like a strike. The first Curse of Osiris reveal stream has concluded and things are looking alright, but it's hard not to get Dark Below vibes when IGN and PC Gamer have discussed the campaign length being only around 2-3 hours. The biggest question we have is what main quality of life changes are arriving in Season 2 and can the live team do enough to bring back the sea of lapsed players?

Released on September 15, 2015, as the third expansion of Destiny, it revolves around Oryx, The Taken King and his plot for revenge after players slew his son Crota in Destiny's first downloadable content (DLC) pack, The Dark Below. The Taken King adds content across the game, including new missions, a Player versus Environment location, Player versus Player maps, player gear, weaponry, and a new raid. Episode 43: Crota's End - Part 2 It's that time again. Your favorite Elder Scrolls podcast is back! This is Episode V and today we're headed to Skyrim! No... wait... that can't be right... can it? It's totally not. This is Ghost Stories and today we're wrapping up our look at The Dark Below with Part 2 of the first expansion Raid, Crota's End. We're short one Xray on this show, so get ready for off topic shenanigans and rambling as we discuss the mechanics and lore behind the final encounter with The Son of Oryx, Crota. We're talkin' Oversouls, Chalices, Crota's demonic legacy, more church architecture, music, the Ascendent Plane as well as all the cheese to be found on this part of the Moon and how Crota is like, a C- student, at best. This is a long one, so don't yank out the LAN cable mid-encounter. Today... we're jumping in. This episode is Part 1 of our look into Crota's End, The Dark Below's Raid. We're covering the initial descent, the Stills-formerly-known-as-the-Abyss, picking locks, gothic architecture, lots and lots of Moon cheese, s-words, and a ton more. We also check in with First Crota along the way and listen to the laments of their ill-fated leader, Eriana-3, with the assistance from the vocal stylings of @neonbath (Chioma ffrom our Vex Fragment episodes). This week we're finishing our look at Destiny's first major expansion, The Dark Below, but not before we do a full breakdown of all the major Hive Sects and their significance in the game. After that's out of the way we cover the two big TDB post-Mission Quests, "Extermination" and "Urn of Sacrifice", which culminate in a quest that is no longer available in-game, "Ritual of the Forsaken". We've also got the Union of Light Contest winners and all the usual sidetrack and derailing you've come to expect from the DGS Crew, including a lovely chat about one of our favorite events in Destiny, good ol' "Enemies Moving Against Each Other". Episode 40: The Dark Below - Pt. 1 Welcome to Season 2 of Destiny Ghost Stories! This week we're not talking Rise of Iron... well, not directly. We know, we know, it's the new hotness, but it's also not even close to finished and there's still so much we don't know. So, as we kick off Y2 of DGS, we're going to be looking back at a lot of the important content that lead us to Rise of Iron and how they really set the stage for what we're experiencing now. It's going to be a big build up and we'll definitely be talking RoI along the way as we explore all the divergent story threads. To kick it all off, we're starting with the first Destiny expansion, The Dark Below. There is a lot in TDB that had major repercussions for the world of Destiny and many that are still ongoing in the current story. So join us as we explore some of the Guardian's first encounters with both the Hive and the Fallen, the first real clashes between the Hive and the Fallen themselves, more of Eris's craziness, more of Toland's awesomeness, the differences between pre and post Taken King quests, questions that never got answered, some that did, and a whole lot more. Focused Fire Chat, a Destiny Lore Podcast

Episode 39 brings Blue, Justin, and Willy together to discuss the lore surrounding the raid from the Dark Below expansion of Destiny, Crota's End. The chat was pretty busy this past week breaking down the mechanics and explaining how the aspects made sense within the lore of the game, so the team dives right into that breakdown - while also establishing that the view of Titans as glorified Grumpy Cats was a completely and utterly factual perception (much to the dismay of one of the team). Enjoy the jokes and watch out for the Paean theory at the end - it's a doozy! As usual, please let us know any feedback you have or any questions that you might want us to start considering for our Lore 101 and Spinfoil Corner series by emailing us at FocusedFireChat@gmail.com or on twitter @FocusedFireChat. What's up, gamers? RDGH has finally reached its fortieth episode, and with it comes a new member of the crew! Matt "Mario" Fernandez joins Garri Bagdasarov and host Glenn Gordon this week for RDGH's latest landmark. Second Life, the virtual world that was really big for awhile but since slipped into relative obscurity, is planning to make a comeback of sorts. Developer Linden Labs is planning a new virtual world like SL, built with today's technology in mind, including Oculus Rift. Some Xbox gamers have been doing something naughty for the holidays in the face of PlayStation 4's exclusive DLC planned for Destiny's first expansion pack, The Dark Below. The crew discusses why it's such a bad idea to demand refunds from Microsoft just because the other console is getting some DLC. PlayStation has offered its first bit of evidence that it plans to buff the PlayStation Network in the form of a survey directly comparing PSN and PS Plus to Xbox Live and Xbox Live Gold. What in particular do you dislike about PlayStation Network? PlayStation also published a list of games to expect at its PlayStation Experience event in December. It's not a complete list, but it's fun to know what to expect. DRIVECLUB also offers a bit of news (sort of) from Shuhei Yoshida. The crew discusses how long it could be before PlayStation's darling racer will be running in full force, and whether or not it can come back from what has been the rockiest launch in the generation so far. Finally, a price drop for the holidays makes the Xbox One quite a good buy--cheaper than the PlayStation 4. How could that affect PlayStation's nine-month streak? This week's opening theme is a remix of the opening theme of Super Smash Brothers: Brawl, done by Arctic. Download the full song for free on his SoundCloud, ArcticOfficial, and remember to subscribe to him there and on his YouTube Channel (Arctic) for more amazing music. The ending this week is Hope Rising, a remix of Destiny's ending theme, Hope. It was made by Jillian Aversa and zircon from Overclocked Remix. To download this and many other great video game remixes in full, for free, head straight to OCremix.org. All this and much more comprises the fortieth episode of the Racial Diversity Gaming Hour. Join the discussion on Twitter @TheRDGH. Gamers, don't forget to forever shun discrimination between gaming platforms. In other words, don't be a racist.

RDGH 38 is live, and a lot of fun! Ben Shillabeer-Hall and Garri Bagdasarov join host Glenn Gordon for another great episode, and they're not alone! We are just one weekend removed from the incredible finale to the League of Legends World Championship. No spoilers here just in case some of our listeners haven't yet seen it, but expect more on Worlds next week. Until then, now is a fantastic time to catch up on the battle between Samsung White and Star Horn Royal Club in Korea and find out who won the summoner's cup. Honestly, even if you already know who won, it's worth watching these great matches. This week has been great on Twitter. You, our gamers, joined the RDGH crew to chat about the price of Project Morpheus, console resolution parity, the DRIVECLUB launch issues, and whether or not you would sacrifice free PlayStation Plus games for a stronger PSN. There were even some comments out favorite energy drinks! Thanks for tweeting and sharing with us! Join the party on Twitter @TheRDGH. After a layoff spree in February of this year, things finally seem to be looking up at Sony Santa Monica, which has been hiring many new professionals. What could the studio behind God of War be up to? There are also rumors about some of the things in store for Destiny. "The Dark Below," its first expansion pack, is expected for release in December, and there are some rather specific reports about new sub-classes and raids! This past week has also been controversial because of one Michael Pachter, the video game industry analyst infamous for his predictions. He surprised gamers everywhere by announcing his prediction that Xbox One would outsell PlayStation 4 for September. Spoiler alert: he was completely wrong. We know this because September's NPD results are in, and we're happy to walk you through them! There are some interesting surprises in them, especially the sales of Destiny for Xbox One versus those of the PS4. The crew discusses why gamers should take that particular bit of information with reservations. This week, the intro music is "Warriors," a fantastic song by Imagine Dragons that has been League of Legends' theme for the World Championships. The members of Imagine Dragons are LoL fans themselves and they could not have written a more amazing song for such a spectacular event. Without question, gamers should pick this song up on iTunes as soon as possible. Our ending music needs no introduction. "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-A-Lot. 'Nuff said. Buy it on iTunes or Amazon if you don't have it already (and you should). All of this and much more comprises yet another great episode of RDGH. Tune in next week for episode 39! Until then, remember to treat all gaming platforms equally and with respect. Don't be a racist.
