Many of my adult friends have an ambivalent relationship with the Christmas season. Why is that? It's often because their mothers were stressed and anxious about achieving a "perfect Christmas." In a recent discussion, Diane Boden, the creator of the Minimalist Mom's Podcast, joined Jennifer Pepito to talk about how to create a minimalist Christmas. The focus is on planning, creating meaningful moments for your family, and choosing what brings you joy and connection. During the holiday season, there are numerous external pressures—from the vast selection of Christmas decorations at stores like Target to expectations from family and the community. It's easy to say yes to everything, buy more than you need, or feel guilty about your actions. Don't let yourself fall into that trap. Avoid letting the pursuit of the "perfect holiday season" turn you into a frazzled mom. Instead, aim for simplicity so your children aren't left wishing for more relaxed times and a happier mom. When we are in seasons of waiting, it can often feel like something to be endured, rather than enjoyed. How can we “wait well” even if we're in a season of overwhelm? How can we find contentment rather than wishing it away? How do we shift our gaze from our circumstances to something greater than ourselves? On today's episode I'm speaking to Erika Diaz-Castro, Christian life coach for Christian women, the founder and owner of Her Renewed Strength Co,, and the host of Her Renewed Strength - the Podcast. She is also the host of the upcoming 2024 RENEWED Conference where 10 experts (including me!) will talk about what it means to wait well. Erika talks about her journey to wait well through financial uncertainty, her 5-year cancer journey, her struggles with drugs and alcohol, and more. This is a faith-filled conversation that will fill you with hope and encouragement. Erika is a Christ follower, wife, mama, and graduate student at Dallas Theological Seminary. We are so excited to have Diane Boden from the Minimalist Moms on the podcast today. After feeling like she wanted to live more intentionally and simply, Diane pursued sharing her experience through Minimalist Moms Podcast, which has become a top rated podcast and resource for women! Diane doesn't want the term “minimalist” to scare you - she really just means living your life more simply, with less clutter taking up space in your mental load and taking time away from really enjoying your life with your kids and your family. She uses a technique where if it can be put away in 1 minute, do it right then so you don't have to do it later! It really helps the clutter from building up. And if you're feeling overwhelmed by the amount of stuff in your home, Diane shares what room to start decluttering in and why. And to keep that newly organized space tidy, Diane suggests implementing the “1 in, 1 out” rule. This can be especially helpful for kids' toys!Besides the physical items cluttering up our home, there can also be a lot of mental clutter when it comes to being a mom. If thoughts keep you up at bedtime, have a pen and paper handy to use as a “brain dump”. You can write all your ideas down and tackle the to-do list the next day without worrying you'll forget something. And don't forget to quiet your mind once in a while and relax in a way you enjoy most! Diane also covers what to do in our closets…we know it can seem daunting, but Diane's tips about how to handle your pre-baby clothes and maternity clothes can help this task seem less overwhelming. If you enjoyed listening to this episode, we would love it if you could share it to your Instagram stories and tag us, @minimalistmoms and @expectingandempowered. This is a special friend of the Mindful Parenting Podcast —meet the Minimalist Moms Podcast with Diane Boden! In this episode, Diane and her guest, Jillian Hankins, delve into the topic of slow and simple living. They explored the significance of slowing down, even when it's challenging to quiet our inner to-do lists. They also discussed the common tendency to claim we live slowly while still getting swept up in the culture of busyness. This is one part of a two part episode so if you want to catch the second half (where the focus is on Jillian's passion to live according to nature's rhythms/seasons. To live seasonally is more than what we eat, but reaches down into the very marrow of our days, how we move through the hours that we've been given with our families) head over to the Minimalist Moms podcast feed to check it out!
