Let's face it: moving is stressful and challenging on many fronts - emotionally, physically, mentally, and financially.  Yet, each year, tens of millions of people in the US relocate from their place of birth or current residence to another location within the same city, county, state, country, or abroad for many reasons. (Read more at: https://www.mymovingreviews.com/move/how-often-and-why-americans-move/) During these moves, we tend to accumulate belongings along the way, and the next thing we know, we have more stuff than we know what to do with. Grab a plastic bag and fill it with garbage. 2. Put things you want to donate into a box. 3. Anything you have in your house that you want to keep but doesn't belong in the room it's currently in, put them in a laundry basket so you can concentrate on the one space. Then put away the items in the laundry basket when the 15 minutes are up. ●   When decluttering, think about what you can implement to make each space feel good and be the most productive for its purpose. ●   Don't try to overhaul your house all at once; it gets to be too much. Just take one small space at a time and go from there. Not only will it feel more doable, but you will also start creating great habits over time.QUOTES: “If we can remove the excess, or tidy up, or clean up, it's also a freeing of the mind. The physical space helps with the mental space.” - Jenn Trepeck “It's not about not having stuff. It's about using your stuff to help you, using your stuff as tools.” - Deanna Yates“Clothes are one of those things that can be very emotional because the experience we have when wearing those clothes then stays with those clothes.” - Deanna Yates“So I think those kinds of things as we can set those little baby steps up. Then again, it all comes back to that mental clarity where it frees us up to be the better versions of ourselves. It frees us up to have a moment of, okay, things don't have to be such a panic. Basements, garages, and closets can all become havens for clutter. But so can your mind! Influenced by the steady stream of input which can at times be unhelpful at best and toxic at worst, our brains can feel full of cobwebs. In our last episode, Easy Ways to Stay Organized, we talked with Clutter-free living expert, Deanna Yates. Our focus was on habits, routines, and processes to help organize and maintain our living space. In this bonus mini-episode, we use some of those principles and a few lessons of our own to try to clear the mental clutter.  Feelings of negativity, confusion and overwhelm can sometimes be caused or exacerbated by things like what we watch, who we follow on social media, the people around us and even our own self-talk. We discovered that just as we may need to change schedules and routines in different seasons of life, what we expose ourselves to may need to change too. We invite you into the conversation: click play to see if clearing the clutter in your mind may be what you need. Being more organized is something that can add both efficiency and productivity to your life. Chances are it would also make life easier. To be fair, it definitely comes more naturally to some people, but anyone can get the hang of it. It's also true that getting organized isn't a one-time thing. It's all about creating systems that work for you and those in your house, so things can stay the way you want them without it being overwhelming or over-complicated. In this episode we look at simple ways not just to declutter and get more organized, but ways to get systems and routines in place that make it easier to stay on track.Stepping in to help is Clutter Free Living Expert Deanna Yates. She's the founder and CEO of Wannabe Clutter Free and the host of the Wannabe Minimalist podcast. She helps us move beyond the boxes, bins and lists (although there is some of that!) to simple tactics that are effective and customizable. Deanna shows us how staying flexible is important because so much can depend on your circumstances, your schedule and season of life. We also loved that she showed us that developing habits and routines can actually be fun (true story!). Deanna's ideas are amazing, and her enthusiasm is infectious. It may be just the motivation you need! So, whether you're one step away from being on Hoarders, an organization ace that needs just a few tweaks…or like most of us, somewhere in between…we think this will be a big help. Deanna Yates shares the minimalism lifestyle, minimalism tips, minimalism for families and even for cars! You can shed stuff and find happiness.   I open this show by reading my essay ‘Ten Ways to Stop Being Insanely Busy'—slowing down for spiritual growth and everything else. Self-care really CAN be that simple.   My guest, Deanna Yates, is a minimalist expert who has a lot to share with so many great minimalism tips about how to do life more simply—and far more meaningfully. Think about it. If you have less stuff, you really do have a lot more flexibility, probably less to manage and worry about, and easier access to good old Flow State. And yes…you can even be minimalist with kids in the house!   Among other things we discussed: Decluttering and minimalism How our stuff affects how we feel about ourselves Perfectionist tendencies with decluttering Kids and how to get them to help Working with a ‘capsule wardrobe' The magic power of the Power Tidy Up Decluttering your kitchen …and a whole lot more!   Really, this is a particularly tip-rich show. Do you ever feel overwhelmed by your stuff?  A lot of us have gotten to the place of feeling pretty comfortable living with clutter--even if we don't like having a bunch of extra clothing, gadgets, books, toys and trinkets around, it's easier than getting rid of our things. In this episode, Deanna Yates shows us how to start.  She also explains that minimalism is a mindset; you can make a change without being extreme. There is no need to feel like you live in a storage unit! Little habits can make a huge difference in decluttering.  Although it may seem overwhelming, decluttering is possible for anyone, whether it's a change in your wardrobe, or the birthday presents you give your kids. This conversation with Deanna will inspire you to grab some bags and boxes and get started. In this episode:Inspiration for going minimalist (4:20)How to start (8:35)What is a capsule wardrobe?
