Gesprek met Piet Vergunst, algemeen secretaris van de Gereformeerde Bond in de Protestantse Kerk over het jaarthema van de Gereformeerde Bond: "Kerk. Thuis bij God". Liefde tot de kerk moet je leren, vaak door teleurstellende ervaringen heen. Om die reden koos het hoofdbestuur van de Gereformeerde Bond ervoor om ‘Kerk. Thuis bij God' als jaarthema voor 2025 te kiezen. ‘Individualistisch spreken over kerk en geloof – ‘mijn kerk' en ‘mijn geloof' – is niet onschuldig. Het kan zomaar komen tot een kerk die mijn godsdienstige behoeften vervullen moet, waar ik mensen met dezelfde opvattingen ontmoeten wil', signaleert P.J. Vergunst, algemeen secretaris van de Gereformeerde Bond in de Protestantse Kerk. In De Waarheidsvriend van donderdag 9 januari staat hij stil bij de overtuiging dat de kerk een kwestie van geloof is, dat wij dankzij Gods genadige verkiezing tot de kerk behoren mogen. Vergunst: ‘Bezinning op de kerk zal dit jaar plaatshebben vanuit de drie-eenheid. In het onderwijs uit de Bijbel wordt het wezen van de gemeente immers verwoord als volk van God, lichaam van Christus en tempel van de Heilige Geest.' Tijdens de jaarvergadering van de Gereformeerde Bond, die DV gehouden zal worden op donderdagmorgen en -middag 22 mei in Putten, hoopt bestuurslid ds. M.K. de Wilde te spreken over ‘Kerk. Thuis bij God'. Hij hoopt in zijn inleiding te laten zien hoe zowel de Vader als de Zoon en de Heilige Geest betrokken zijn op de kerk en wat dit betekent voor ons spreken en denken over de kerk, ook in haar concrete gestalte. In aansluiting hierop volgt tijdens de regionale ambtsdragersontmoetingen op de dinsdagavonden 2 en 9 september een verdere doorvertaling naar het leven van ambtsdrager en gemeente. Ook De Waarheidsvriend zal dit jaar regelmatig aandacht besteden aan het jaarthema.

Voormalig correspondent Jan van der Putten werd geboren op de dag dat Japan Pearl Harbor aanviel en de Tweede Wereldoorlog echt een wereldoorlog werd. Het duurde eeuwen voordat de Bijbel een heilig boek werd. En eigenlijk is het dat nooit geworden, zo schrijft historicus Bruce Gordon in De Bijbel. Een wereldgeschiedenis. Pieter van Os bespreekt het boek. ‘Wat mij het meest verbaasde was dat politieke denkers als Thomas Hobbes hun best deden om het boek heilig en onweerlegbaar te maken.' De Goelag Archipel van de Russische schrijver Aleksandr Solzjenitsyn kwam in 1974 uit in Nederland en was gelijk onderwerp van gesprek. Wim Berkelaar herlas de klassieker van de auteur die met zijn latere gedachtengoed over het zieke Westen dicht tegen Vladimir Poetin aanschurkte.

The man at the centre of a fatal stabbing on Auckland bus, has handed himself into a Northshore police station. The man was identifed off CCTV footage as a person on interest in yesterday's stabbing on the number 74 bus in Onehunga. The woman who was stabbed multiple times, died at the scene. There were 9 other passengers. Police say it appears the attack was random and there was no altercation before hand, but he was known to police. The two sat near each other and together on the bus at various points in the journey. The police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident. Auckland Transport has spoken out after yesterday's fatal stabbing of a woman on an Onehunga bus. The man-hunt for a 37-year-old suspect ended this morning - when a man handed himself in at North Shore Police station. Police say the attack appears random and they don't think the victim and suspect knew each other. AT's Director of Public Transport, Stacey van der Putten, says they've increased staff numbers in Onehunga. She says it's very concerning - and such crime is very sporadic. "There's only so much we can do - it's a problem in terms of anti-social behaviour. The vast majority of people are really well behaved, these are tiny issues compared to what we generally see." Suite de notre série spéciale « Élections européennes : la montée des nationalismes en question ». Aux Pays-Bas, où l'agriculture intensive est la norme, les lois environnementales déclenchent la colère des agriculteurs. Un nouveau parti populiste, le BBB (Mouvement agriculteur-citoyen) prospère sur cette contestation. Mais cette colère dépasse les seules questions écologiques. Elle se nourrit aussi d'un discours anti-élite qui va peser lors des prochaines européennes. De notre envoyé spécial,En 2019, la Cour suprême des Pays-Bas a pris une décision contre les rejets d'azote : trop d'agriculture intensive dans le pays, trop d'engrais, trop de bétails et trop de lisier… Le gouvernement a donc essayé de réduire la facture environnementale issue de l'agriculture. Pour Nanda, productrice de lait à Putten à 11 heures de route d'Amsterdam, cette décision revient à signer l'arrêt de mort de nombreux fermiers : « ils ont voulu se débarrasser des agriculteurs, en tout cas de beaucoup d'entre nous… À cause de la nature, pour faire de la place pour construire des maisons… Et maintenant on a vraiment un problème aux Pays-Bas mais aussi dans l'Union européenne parce que les règles, on n'arrive pas à les suivre… On veut le faire mais c'est impossible ! » Nanda et son mari ont participé aux manifestations organisées ces dernières années. Un parti politique est né pendant cette crise.Le BBB, le mouvement agriculteurs et citoyens. À sa tête, une ancienne journaliste et ex-communicante dans le secteur de la viande : Caroline van der Plas.« Caroline est très active », salue Nanda devant une immense banderole accrochée dans un de ses hangars. « Elle est vraiment connectée à la réalité. Elle vit dans une maison normale comme le reste des Hollandais. Pas dans un grand manoir ou un truc du genre. C'est ça que j'admire profondément chez elle : elle est comme nous. Et même si c'est une personnalité politique, elle est restée normale. J'aime vraiment ça chez elle. »Une ascension surpriseLe BBB est sorti de nulle part, il a raflé la mise lors des élections locales de mars 2023 : un raz-de-marée dans l'intégralité des 12 provinces et au Sénat où le parti de Caroline van der Plas est le premier groupe avec 16 élus sur 75.Une réussite phénoménale qui a pris de court la classe politique et les médias. « Tout le monde a été surpris par leur succès », abonde Frank Hendrikx, journaliste politique, l'une des grandes signatures du Volkskrant, le troisième quotidien du pays, classé à gauche. « Ils ont d'abord réussi à entrer au Parlement avec un siège. Ça nous a étonnés parce que le parti était sous les radars. Mais après bien sûr, on a vu que la cheffe du parti Caroline van der Plas était très compétente, très bonne dans les médias, très appréciée par beaucoup de personnes et par les électeurs. On s'attendait à ce qu'elle ait du succès mais elle a réussi à faire du BBB le plus grand parti des Pays-Bas et ça a surpris tout le monde. »Le succès du BBB répond aussi à un sentiment de déclassement et anti-élites de la population rurale. « Au début, Caroline van der Plas représentait la communauté des agriculteurs. Mais ensuite, elle a eu une audience beaucoup plus large, plus seulement les agriculteurs, et elle a gagné de plus en plus de sympathisants. Et c'était clair que c'était parmi un électorat profondément déçu par le système politique et par le statu quo à la tête du pays. »« Ramener du bon sens » à BruxellesNous rencontrons Caroline van der Plas à la Chambre basse du Parlement à La Haye. La patronne du BBB a un objectif clair aux européennes : « On veut ramener du bon sens dans les règlements et les politiques de l'Union européenne. C'est nécessaire quand vous voyez ce qui a été décidé ces dernières années. Les gens veulent voter autre chose, ils en ont marre de toutes les règles et de tous les plans sur l'environnement et la nature. » Faire plier l'Union européenne, c'est ce que souhaite Wilco Brouwer de Koning. Ce producteur laitier à Heillo, dans le nord-ouest des Pays-Bas, a repris avec son frère la ferme familiale. Il espère que l'irruption du BBB sera « un réveil pour La Haye mais aussi pour toute l'Union européenne. Parce que beaucoup de gens ne sont pas contents des politiciens : trop de blabla et pas assez de vrai travail pour nous aider nous les agriculteurs. Le lien avec les politiciens s'est rompu. » Réveil brutal pour les partis traditionnelsLe réveil a été brutal pour les partis traditionnels de gauche et de droite, mis sur la touche aux dernières élections. Le PVV du leader d'extrême-droite Geert Wilders est sorti grand vainqueur. Mais il doit composer avec d'autres partis pour former un gouvernement. Et les négociations s'éternisent… Le BBB est aujourd'hui un partenaire du PVV ce qui pousse le chercheur Koen Damhuis à classer Caroline van der Plas dans la catégorie populiste : « Le BBB est ouvertement populiste dans ses manières de caractériser le pouvoir politique en place. Les élites qui sont directement opposées à un peuple présupposé », estime ce maître de conférences en Sciences politiques à l'Université d'Utrecht. « Le BBB reste quand même beaucoup moins dur que le PVV ».Dans les locaux du grand quotidien Volkskrant à La Haye, Frank Hendrikx est moins nuancé.« C'est un parti populiste », assène le journaliste. « Leur programme est comme un conte de fées, tout est possible. Par exemple, d'un côté ils vont dire qu'ils veulent moins d'immigration mais quelques pages plus loin, on lit qu'ils veulent plus d'immigration pour aider les agriculteurs ou le secteur agricole… Ils veulent baisser les impôts tout en dépensant plus… Ils promettent tout et son contraire, et c'est un point commun à tous les partis populistes. »La principale intéressée, elle, n'a pas peur de l'étiquette populiste. « Si par populisme, vous voulez dire que vous écoutez les gens en Europe, alors oui nous sommes populistes. Mais quel est le problème d'écouter les gens », s'interroge faussement Caroline van der Plas. « J'aimerais que tous les autres partis fassent de même. Alors le BBB ne serait pas nécessaire. Le problème en Europe et aux Pays-Bas, c'est qu'ils n'écoutent pas les gens et ce dont les gens ont besoin. Nous on a vu leurs besoins, on les a identifiés et on a agi pour y répondre. »Ambitions modestes au Parlement européenEn pleine négociation pour former un cabinet, le BBB comme le PVV ne s'occupe pas encore publiquement des élections européennes. Pas de campagne, pas de meetings, les partis se contentent des émissions politiques à la télévision.Le mouvement de Geert Wilders a pourtant beaucoup à gagner en juin 2024. Il pourrait remporter 6 sièges sur les 14 occupés par les Pays-Bas.Le BBB lui ne peut espérer qu'un seul siège. Mais le parti espère malgré tout peser à Bruxelles et à Strasbourg. « On veut moins de règles pour les entreprises. C'est le principal objectif. On veut que les plans de l'UE soient plus réalistes », nous glisse le députéHenk Vermeer entre deux réunions à la Chambre basse du Parlement. C'est lui qui dirige la campagne européenne du BBB : « Beaucoup de réglementations viennent de l'Europe, donc on doit négocier, on doit avoir de l'influence là où tous les plans sont préparés. »Risque de normalisation ?Désormais bien installée dans le paysage politique néerlandais, Caroline van der Plas est menacée de normalisation. Au risque de perdre son authenticité dans les couloirs du Parlement à La Haye ?« Il faut rester vigilant pour que ces partis continuent à défendre les droits des agriculteurs et ne se perdent pas en chemin. C'est un risque », s'inquiète Jos Ubels, un éleveur de vaches destinées aux boucheries, dans le nord du pays. « J'appelle ça le syndrome de Stockholm. Si vous vivez à La Haye, que votre appartement, vos bureaux sont à côté des autres politiques, que vous leur parlez tous les jours, que vous buvez un café avec eux le matin, vous leur dites « bonjour, bonjour ! »… Vous finissez par bien les connaître, vous vivez avec eux alors que ce sont vos adversaires parce que vous défendez d'autres idées. Mais je pense que tous les agriculteurs doivent se lever pour défendre leurs droits. Et que ce soit la Farmers Defence Force ou d'autres groupes, on doit maintenir les politiques sur la bonne voie. »Jos Ubels est aussi le numéro 2 de la Farmers Defence Force, la force de défense des agriculteurs. Ce collectif a vu le jour en 2019 après l'occupation d'une ferme par des militants écologistes. Pour ce groupe, les agriculteurs doivent se défendre eux-mêmes. Et ils ne veulent faire aucune concession. Ils ont d'ailleurs prévu une grande manifestation à Bruxelles juste avant les élections de juin.Caroline van der Plas ne craint pas de se perdre au contact des politiques et du pouvoir : « Je suis restée moi-même. Et ça rend la vie plus facile de rester qui on est. » Avenir incertainÀ Putten, on retrouve Nanda, à côté de ses vaches qu'elle aime traire à la main, plutôt qu'avec un robot. Sa ferme, ses bêtes, son travail, c'est sa passion. Mais l'avenir l'angoisse. La jeune trentenaire ne sait pas si son fils de 3 ans reprendra, un jour, les rênes de la ferme comme elle et son mari : « Pour être honnête, j'espère que non. Je l'aime et parce que je l'aime, je veux le préserver de tout le bordel en ce moment. J'espère qu'il trouvera une autre passion. Mais oui, bien sûr, on aimerait lui léguer notre ferme, mais c'est si difficile et on a tellement de soucis avec notre ferme, tellement de tristesse… », confie Nanda, les larmes aux yeux. « J'espère qu'il fera quelque chose qui le rendra heureux. Si c'est la ferme, ce sera la ferme mais je ne veux pas qu'il ait autant de problèmes que nous maintenant. »

Auckland Transport is giving itself a pass mark, for its handling of the weekend's Pink concerts at Eden Park. On Friday night, some concert-goers say they were left stranded on platforms because there weren't enough trains heading to the central city. On Saturday, some were left waiting more than an hour for trains or buses, with some buses leaving before all seats were filled. AT Public Transport Director Stacey van der Putten told Mike Hosking that extra services were put on to deal with the tens of thousands of people travelling to and from the concerts. Auckland Transport says KiwiRail has tarnished the reputation of the city's train system after 34 services were cancelled because the tracks were too hot. The Southern line to Papakura was worst affected, registering 48 degrees. Heat restrictions are temporarily applied to tracks that reach 40 degrees and above, due to the risk of track expansion in the heat. Auckland Transport's public transport director, Stacey van der Putten, admits that Aucklanders deserve better. KiwiRail's David Gordon spoke to Corin Dann.

Auckland Transport wants shopping centres and malls to be proactive in managing traffic ahead of Black Friday sales and Christmas shopping. It is urging the city's malls to encourage the use of public transport and notify customers when their carparks are full. Thousands of motorists were stuck in the carpark for hours trying to leave Newmarket's Westfield Mall on Saturday. Auckland Transport Executive General Manager Public Transport Services Stacey van der Putten spoke to Corin Dann.

Thousands of electronic cards used to travel on Auckland's public transport are about to run out of gas. The pre-paid Auckland Transport Hop cards allow commuters to take advantage of cheaper fares, with a cashless ticketing system.
