"Biblically-Informed Politics"- Matthew 5:15-16Pastor Nate ClarkeOctober 13, 2024SERMON NOTES:- “We are now called upon to exercise one of the privileges and duties which go with liberty, let no man be neglectful of it. Every God fearing man should give his vote with as much devotion as he prays.” Charles Spurgeon- Well intended, yet misguided Christian thinking- “I'm a citizen of heaven, not of this world.”- Philippians 3:20- “I'm primarily and eternally a citizen of heaven and I've been given dominion and responsibility from God while I'm on earth.”- “I'm just going to love God and love people and not get involved in this.”- “I serve God and serve people when I'm engaged in the well being of my nation and community.”- Jeremiah 29:7 ESV- “I'm not getting involved because all the options are flawed.”- Matthew 5:13- God has always used flawed people in anything He has done. We are looking for someone who will most slow the decay.- “I'm voting based on the persona / personality of a candidate.”- People come and go. Policies last and share the world we live in.- Policies > Person- You are casting a vote, not sending a valentine :) - “I don't want to push my beliefs/morals on others.”- All legislation is an enforcement of morality. It's just a matter of whose morality.- When Godly people don't lead, godless people do. - Matthew 5:15-16- “The Candle” Charles Spurgeon April 24, 1881Oasis Church exists to Worship God, Equip the believers, and Reach the lost.We are led by Pastor Nate Clarke and are located in Richmond, VA.Stay Connected:Website: https://oasischurch.online Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oasischurchva/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OasisChurchRVA/

Work is good. Work is necessary for the fulfillment of every human being. Work is required of every person according to his or her capabilities and talents, so sayeth the Scripture. All of us must work to survive, live, grow and profit and be all that we can be and as God intended us to be.Our very own America was built on hard work, and is in fact itself a work in progress. The progress depends upon us, we the people, how hard we work and how we make things happen. The majority of we the American people are hard workers. And, the harder and the better we work, the better America and all of us are. To be sure, nothing comes easy in this life, nothing. Everything we have or enjoy is the product of hard work by someone, whether you, or me, or someone else. You and I must do our share, accomplish our calling for the very short time we have on this precious earth. Life, said the wisest man of old King Solomon, is but a vapor here today and gone so soon tomorrow. We should make every working day count to the fullest.Pioneers built our country. They were men and women who did little but work hard morning till night. They farmed land never before productive. They raised animals and used them for work and feed. They built houses, and churches, and City Halls. They built roads and bridges. They built autos and trucks. They built hospitals and invented medicines. They designed and manufactured clothing. They created places for entertainment and worship. They built elaborate and majestic campuses for education and things theological. They built laboratories and science centers and they sent us deep into space. They were then and we are now the workers who made America great, America, the most exciting, creative human and social experiment in all of history. You and I should be proud of them and we should be proud to be workers like they were. The more we work, the better we are, caught up, energized and thrilled by the spirit of America, our exceptional opportunity to pursue our dreams and to build our future. America and those who believe in what it stands for are indeed EXCEPTIONAL and we have been blessed by EQUALLY EXCEPTIONAL opportunity. As we work, we should do everything possible to protect and defend the opportunities, lifestyles and freedoms which America offers. How wonderful it is that the talent and ability of every individual God-Made is different, unique. It is marvelous indeed that every single person has talent and gifts which are in fact different. That is true divine diversity. None of us are better at least not in the sight of God, but different only. Each of us has our own special CALLING. So, no matter who you are, YOU are special and it is your right but every bit as importantly your duty to utilize those God-given talents to the fullest. It is your duty to fulfill your calling. So then, we should not be concerned with what others think nor should we judge what we do and how we work by the standards of others. Nor should we be inhibited by their criticism. For we need to know ourselves, be true to that special self and soul which God has created and through prayer and meditation, come to a full recognition of those talents and be the very person God intended that you and I be. We can fail, but we can bounce back. The opportunity for growth and change is still available in America, thank God. Ignore rejection and focus on your calling. So then, my fellow Americans, you may be called to be a mother. Be all that you can be as a mother for the sake of your children and do your God-given calling with all of your might. Or perhaps you are secretary, or babysitter. Perhaps you clean for a living. Recognize all such work as a calling and do your calling with all of your might. Or perhaps you are plumber, electrician, landscaper, restaurant worker. Do your calling with all of your might and as you can, as unto the Lord. Or perhaps you are lawyer, accountant, radio salesperson, financial planner. Do your calling with all of your might. And if you are the President of anything, including the President of our great United States, you perhaps have a calling with higher standards, duties and demands. No one should do a calling better than you WITH ALL OF YOUR MIGHT!So, we work, we produce and as we do, we should expect return which of course includes money and profit. We work for economic growth and benefit, for the fruit of our labors. We follow the biblical prescription that we can expect even with minimum work product the return of that work one for one. Or perhaps, five to one. Or even as Scripture indicates, perhaps as much as ten to one or more as we diligently develop and exploit those talents and capabilities through hard work. The money return from our work, efforts, creativity and initiative is blessed by Scripture. That money return is right, as we become work men and work women worthy of our hire. We plant, as Scripture says, and Mother Nature waters and it is GOD who gives the increase so the Scriptures say. It is a good thing to make money and to be rewarded for our work. Money supports. Money helps others. Money creates opportunity. The best of us at work, hard work, is exactly what this world of so many ENTITLED needs now more than ever. In fact, hard and productive work is so necessary for this world of entitlements in which we live in order for it to survive and continue. It is well and good indeed to help those all in real need. But all who can, any and all including those receiving entitlements, should work as they can.But today, unfortunately it seems, there are those supposedly progressive in thinking who wish to tell us that profit is wrong, especially in excess. That profit made is the result of GREED at work. Profit they say is not as a result of hard work or special skills, but rather the exploitation of others. Ignore them. You are worthy of the profit and gain of anything you produce at any level of life. The more you invest as a mother, the better your child, perhaps better than others. Enjoy the fruit, the profit of your labors. When you build something, revel in the fruit of your labors and do it with all of your might, and better than others. For no matter what progressives or others would say, YOU DID IN FACT BUILD IT, and you did build it yourself. In fact, so much of what is built would not have been built without you or me. Revel in, enjoy and profit from anything and everything YOU BUILT!But work produces much more than money. Those who understand the value of work realize full well that the doing well of anything is the reward itself! The satisfaction, the fulfillment, the full expression of the self among mankind and before God are THE BEST REWARDS. They are indeed more valuable than money for money comes and goes. But the rewards of work well done last a lifetime and are in fact eternal. We create an earthly balance sheet, personal financial and loss statements here and now, but it is the ETERNAL balance sheet which really counts. Nothing goes with you, no matter what you leave behind, but only the heavenly balance sheet you create. For there is always something more, often much more than the work itself or the profit therefrom. There is good, often enormous good in work well done and even very spiritual good. See that clearly as part of the goal of your calling and WORK which only adds to the return and the enjoyment. So, the work we do can be not only for money, or profit, but for non-profit. For worthy causes. For the good of society in which we live. For all humanity, especially those in need. For the Christian Church and for the Christ we love and serve. For blood drives. For HIV awareness and treatment. For feeding and sheltering the homeless. For carrying the message of the Gospel to forsaken and needy parts of America and the world. Shepherding and guiding children. Tending to the needs of the elderly. Visiting and comforting those in prison.THE WORK OF THE LORD AT WORK FOR ALL MANKIND, AS WE ARE CALLED.All of these things make us what we should be before the Lord and our fellow man.So many of us are people of faith. But our faith, sayeth Scripture, without works is dead. Whatever you believe, whatever your faith, there is no way for anyone to know whether or not it is real except by your works. Talk is cheap. But by the fruits of your labors your fellow human beings will know you. If there is in fact a work of God in you, a CALLING, a life objective, the works that you do will prove to others who you are. What you and I do not do also proves who we are. The great thinking Dietrich Bonhoeffer said that not to act is to act. Negative actions, doing nothing, can be as potent negatively as actual action itself.Unfortunately, there are those who do deceitful works and works of iniquity. They are known for their fraudulent and deceitful acts. They work not for the good of mankind, but only for themselves, for ego, for elicit gain in a deceitful way. Their works and their lives are in vain. William Shakespeare said that the evil that men do lives after them, the legacy they make and that evil is the only thing remembered here and in eternity. So, it is our duty to study, to grow ourselves in our career and constantly make ourselves better, so that we can show ourselves approved as work men and women, understanding the objectives, values and priorities which are ours, always growing in our understanding, especially the Scriptures so that we can be approved by God before him as well as man. Learning, whether a trade or in law, or by gaining experience and growing or by learning from others, or the school of hard knocks, and by mistakes, learning standards of excellence to which we can aspire so that we can be all, ALL we can be, working with all of our might knowing in this world that indeed the night is coming where no man can work. Work while you can and the best you can.In this life, we slow down, age or perhaps lose interest or motivation, and of course energy and our ability to work dissipates or even ends. With that ends opportunity and potential and we may not have finished what we are called to do. Some retire, or quit, or are forced to retire prematurely. Some of us are fortunate enough to finish and accomplish our objectives and purposes, while others can not. For us, we are fortunate that even Jesus of Nazareth said in John's Gospel that he had in fact finished the work for which the Father had sent him. He had accomplished His objectives, fulfilled His purposes and He did so to His last dying breath. Our goal, like HIS should be to finish our work, the work for which we were sent by God and meant to do. That is the greatest fulfillment this life can offer. We are called upon by God Almighty to live every day to the fullest. CARPE DIEM my fellow Americans, seize the day. It is the day which the Lord hath made and for you to work and be productive. Worry not about tomorrow, or the criticism, expectations or even the rejections of any man. It has its own problems-evil-which you can not control or do anything about. But, rather think in terms of how precious every minute of every hour of every day is, and rejoice in that. Maximize the opportunity that minute brings and, whatever your hand finds to do, YOUR CALLING, do it with all of your might. Every God-given minute is indeed an opportunity there once never to return. So that everything we do, everything no matter how menial works together for good. The joy of living is so special. We are told by our Lord that He is come that we might have life in its most ABUNDANT form and that our joy, OUR TOTAL JOY may be full. There is joy in every moment, as we work, as we rest, as we play, as we love others and as we understand who we are and:BE ALL THAT WE CAN BEThose who love to work and love as much to be productive and make things happen know that the ultimate reward for such work is:THE VERY WORK ITSELFNo matter the accolades of man, or profit, or any other earthly benefit, the ultimate reward, the ultimate satisfaction is the work itself. Nothing feels better to any right-thinking person than a job well done, having done the best you can with all of your might. So then, for the Christian, there is something even greater than works. There is GRACE, saving grace. And no manner of works can ever equal that. The grace at God at work trumps the works of any man, but when added to works, leads to the complete fulfillment of that life. We can and should be proud of the works we do, but the work of God in Jesus Christ, saving grace through Him is the greatest work of all. The combination of grace producing work, the right work is the very best thing in life. So, my fellow Americans, work hard. Work well, with purpose. Know your calling. Do what you were CALLED to do, and do it in each and every minute, hour and day of your life. Do what your Creator would have you do and you will find fulfillment in that work and in your life. It matters not whether you are housewife or President, millionaire or middle class, never forget that:YOU AND YOUR WORK ARE CRITICALLY IMPORTANTYOU AND YOUR WORK ARE UNIQUE, DIFFERENT FROM ALL OTHERSWe need not the approval or recognition of mankind however enjoyable that may be. We need to work to be approved by God, who knows us, our every thought and deed. His approval is all that matters.I and the Crawford Broadcasting Company honor all of the men and women in America who work, and work hard, and make America, family and friends, and all of us so much better and especially those who work as unto the Lord. Find the work you love to do, really love to do and you will never work a day in your life!God bless you work men and women worthy of your hire and it is because of you that:GOD WILL BLESS AMERICA

Visiting and comforting those in prison. THE WORK OF THE LORD AT WORK FOR ALL MANKIND, AS WE ARE CALLED.All of these things make us what we should be before the Lord and our fellow man.So many of us are people of faith. His approval is all that matters. I and the Crawford Broadcasting Company honor all of the men and women in America who work, and work hard, and make America, family and friends, and all of us so much better and especially those who work as unto the Lord. Find the work you love to do, really love to do and you will never work a day in your life! God bless you work men and women worthy of your hire and it is because of you that:GOD WILL BLESS AMERICA

Reading is delivered by Elisabeth Sonia from Texas, United States and meditation is delivered by Father Peter Tukan, SDB from Salesian Community in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia. Sirach 48: 1-4.9-11; Rs psalm 80: 2ac.3b.15-16.18-19; Matthew 17: 10-13 ELIJAH'S GAME Our meditation today has the theme: Elijah's Game. In this season of Advent the profile of John the Baptist is a light of truth walking with Jesus Christ, for he is the herald for the coming of the Messiah. But according to Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew in recent days, the profile of the Old Testament prophet, Elijah, has similarities with John the Baptist. It is even said that John was the new Elijah. Jesus' countrymen even believed that Elijah had resurrected. Advent will not be complete and interesting if we do not reflect on the prophet Elijah. In the Old Testament, he is equated with Moses as described in the apparition on Mount Tabor. In the today's two readings, Elijah is shown as a messenger of God to give warnings, to render announcements, and to proclaim the happening of God's great deeds. Elijah is not God, but he had all the elements to open the eyes of every person on this earth to the existence of an almighty God and all His works. This is the essence of Elijah's game. He is a voice that gives warning or announcement, so this duty was so real manifested long after him, namely in John the Baptist. The role of John the Baptist was to lead, to guide, and with his loud voice crying out, without any fear if the listeners' ears were red with irritation. This had already been happened in the days of Elijah, as the book of Sirach says, the word that was spoken by Elijah could lock the heavens, and from there fire was sent down to earth three times. However, Elijah's play was also in all the miracles he had performed in the name of God. Today's first reading reveals that with all these miracles, none from this world can match all that had been done by Elijah. Even though John did not perform miracles as great as Elijah, the One whom John heralded was the principle miracle worker and He is the Son of God. All that had been so miraculously displayed in Elijah's game, came to its fullness in Jesus Christ, with all the preparation for His coming made by John the Baptist. Elijah's game is not the same as any kind of game by any human person of this world as normally understood in the manner of competition. Elijah's game meant to communicate God's deeds for mankind. John the Baptist too did the same. If we want to follow the example and teachings of these two great prophets, we need to accept this particular truth, that says: Every God's messenger, whether small, ordinary or great one, will be challenged with negative reception and even rejection. However, it's precisely with that resistance, a messenger of God is able to make a difference and to give a new meaning to life. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Lord Jesus our great Master, may through Your Word today, we are enlightened and strengthened in the path You have entrusted to us. Our Father who art in heaven ... In the name of the Father... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/media-la-porta/message

Spiritual Clarity

Victory Life KY

As I grow in my own relationship with Jesus, one thing that’s becoming more and more prevalent is my understanding of spiritual clarity. You look at every generation of people throughout the Bible and you’ll see that God is always looking for that group He can work through supernaturally. And as we dig into things, at the top of the list has to be us making our minds up about the fact that God and His word never change. Malachi 3:6, I am the Lord, I do not change. Hebrews 13:8, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Psalm 18:30,AMP- “As for God, His way is perfect! The word of the Lord is tested and tried; He is a shield to all those who take refuge and put their trust in Him.” MSG, “What a God! His road stretches straight and smooth. Every GOD direction is road-tested. Everyone who runs toward him Makes it.”  The thing about a spiritual life, just like our human life, it has to be developed. But one big difference is that spiritual living requires faith to access. Which means that each of us will have to make ourselves available to His word and His Spirit in order to access a world we can’t see. For example, right now would you say you’re a spiritual person? Are spiritual realities a consistent part of your life? How would you describe your spiritual clarity? 1 Corinthians 2:10-14,NLT- It was to us that God revealed these things by His Spirit. For His Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Make no mistake, embracing the reality that we are living, thinking, free willed spirit beings will absolutely require some spiritual clarity. And it starts with the understanding that giving our lives to Jesus means we’ve become a new creation, a new type of being. 2 Corinthians 5:17,NLT- “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a NEW LIFE has begun!” And the God ordained foundation of our new spiritual life is His word. God sent us His word to show us our new life in Him. He makes it very clear that’s what our new lives are to be built on. I cannot stress enough the importance of a healthy, consistent relationship with your bible. Truth is, the Bible is how our intelligence learns to recognize His voice, His leading, His nature. It truly is the window, not just into the spirit world, but more specifically, His Kingdom. But without a foundation in God's word, we only have human reasoning to resort to. Truth is, the unrenewed soul will always be at the mercy of human reasoning. But, if we're willing to grow, according to Proverbs, God's Spirit will enlighten our spirit to spiritual realities. On the other hand, if we continue refusing to take the time to renew our thinking to what God is saying, putting spiritual realities first will always be challenging. Let's keep this in mind, since "old things are gone" God will be communicating, He'll be leading our born-again spirit, not our intelligence or our emotions. Romans 8:16 actually tells us that the Holy Spirit will bear witness, communicate, lead our spirit. Which means that our mind is going to have to process all that. It’s why the mind has to be renewed. So remember, it's God's word that gives us clarity between the natural and the spiritual. It's His word that enlightens our path, and His Spirit leads by it. John 6:63,NLT- The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.  As we continue our spiritual development we will actually come to the place where our spirits will see things our intelligence still has to catch up with. Think about it, that's how it is with God's word, there'll be things we'll read and our intelligence doesn't comprehend, but in our spirit, by faith we choose to accept it as truth. This is why God created us and instructs us that we are to live by faith, not intelligence. But because our intelligence processes everything we do, it has to be transformed in order for us to get better at recognizing spiritual realities. The reason the Holy Spirit leads the way He does is because we are free will creations. And as we mature in Christ, He knows we're going to make more and more Christ-like decisions. He knows as we continue our spiritual maturity that we'll make the same choices He would. The spiritual life we've been given all hinges on our transformation. And a huge part of that transformation is our soul being aligned with our spirit. 1 Timothy 4:1-2,NIV- The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. A seared conscience is a very slippery slope. Think about it, we don't just wake up one day and start following the teachings of demons. This is why we have to have a solid foundation, God's word. This is why Jesus left us His example of how He dealt with the enemy, every time the enemy tried deceiving Jesus, He repeatedly said, "it is written." But the more we turn to our own reasoning instead of His word, our soul gets exposed to unstable, unreliable information. But the more intentional we are about His word, about our spiritual life, the more we'll recognize and be comfortable with His leading.  Remember what Jesus told us, The Holy Spirit will guide is in all truth, even showing us things to come. But He will only be guiding those willing to follow. He’s always looking for the faithful. 2 Chronicles 16:9,NKJV- The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. What we’re talking about tonight isn’t for everyone. Not that God doesn’t want it to be, but the truth is, this level of spiritual awareness is only through a consuming desire to walk closer with the Holy Spirit. Jeremiah 29:11-13,NIV- For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  Ultimately, unless we’re willing to do something different than what we’re currently doing, chances are very slim of us seeing any significant change. And by design, one of the best ways for truth to grow in our spirit is by simply talking about that truth. “Faith comes from hearing” Here’s the deal, anyone willing to consistently seek the Lord, seek spiritual clarity, God’s anointing is going to become more and more evident. One big reason is because the more familiar we are with the Holy Spirit the more we’re going to recognize and be available to Him. 2 Corinthians 3:4-6,NIV- Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Here’s where God is taking us, He’s putting together a group of faith people that will be able to not only have intelligent conversations about spiritual realities, but they’ll be recognizable in our lives. Think about this, Jesus isn’t just the first born, He is our example of how a human full of the Spirit manifests God’s nature.  Acts 10:38,NKJV- God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. And the same Holy Spirit lives in us and wants to empower us for the same purpose. John 14:12,NKJV- Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. Remember, it was Jesus who told us His words are Spirit and Truth. Jesus is constantly on the lookout for faithful believers perusing spiritual clarity. You look at every generation of people throughout the Bible and you’ll see that God is always had a group He could work through supernaturally.

We plant, as Scripture says, and Mother Nature waters and it is GOD who gives the increase so the Scriptures say.It is a good thing to make money and to be rewarded for our work. That profit made is the result of GREED at work.Profit they say is not as a result of hard work or special skills, but rather the exploitation of others.Ignore them.  You are worthy of the profit and gain of anything you produce at any level of life.  The more you invest as a mother, the better your child, perhaps better than others.Enjoy the fruit, the profit of your labors. There is good, often enormous good in work well done and even very spiritual good.See that clearly as part of the goal of your calling and WORK which only adds to the return and the enjoyment. Visiting and comforting those in prison. THE WORK OF THE LORD AT WORK FOR ALL MANKIND, AS WE ARE CALLED.All of these things make us what we should be before the Lord and our fellow man.So many of us are people of faith.  But our faith, sayeth Scripture, without works is dead.  Whatever you believe, whatever your faith, there is no way for anyone to know whether or not it is real except by your works.  Talk is cheap.  But by the fruits of your labors your fellow human beings will know you.If there is in fact a work of God in you, a CALLING, a life objective, the works that you do will prove to others who you are.  What you and I do not do also proves who we are.  The great thinking Dietrich Bonhoeffer said that not to act is to act.Negative actions, doing nothing, can be as potent negatively as actual action itself.Unfortunately, there are those who do deceitful works and works of iniquity.  They are known for their fraudulent and deceitful acts. They work not for the good of mankind, but only for themselves, for ego, for elicit gain in a deceitful way.Their works and their lives are in vain.William Shakespeare said that the evil that men do lives after them, the legacy they make and that evil is the only thing remembered here and in eternity. Worry not about tomorrow, or the criticism, expectations or even the rejections of any man.It has its own problems-evil-which you can not control or do anything about.

2 Samuel 22: 1 David prayed to God the words of this song after God saved him from all his enemies and from Saul. 2-3 God is bedrock under my feet, the castle in which I live, my rescuing knight. My God—the high crag where I run for dear life, hiding behind the boulders, safe in the granite hideout; My mountaintop refuge, he saves me from ruthless men. 4 I sing to God the Praise-Lofty, and find myself safe and saved. 5-6 The waves of death crashed over me, devil waters rushed over me. Hell’s ropes cinched me tight; death traps barred every exit. 7 A hostile world! I called to God, to my God I cried out. From his palace he heard me call; my cry brought me right into his presence— a private audience! 8-16 Earth wobbled and lurched; the very heavens shook like leaves, Quaked like aspen leaves because of his rage. His nostrils flared, billowing smoke; his mouth spit fire. Tongues of fire darted in and out; he lowered the sky. He stepped down; under his feet an abyss opened up. He rode a winged creature, swift on wind-wings. He wrapped himself in a trenchcoat of black rain-cloud darkness. But his cloud-brightness burst through, a grand comet of fireworks. Then God thundered out of heaven; the High God gave a great shout. God shot his arrows—pandemonium! He hurled his lightnings—a rout! The secret sources of ocean were exposed, the hidden depths of earth lay uncovered The moment God roared in protest, let loose his hurricane anger. 17-20 But me he caught—reached all the way from sky to sea; he pulled me out Of that ocean of hate, that enemy chaos, the void in which I was drowning. They hit me when I was down, but God stuck by me. He stood me up on a wide-open field; I stood there saved—surprised to be loved! 21-25 God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him. When I cleaned up my act, he gave me a fresh start. Indeed, I’ve kept alert to God’s ways; I haven’t taken God for granted. Every day I review the ways he works, I try not to miss a trick. I feel put back together, and I’m watching my step. God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes. 26-28 You stick by people who stick with you, you’re straight with people who’re straight with you, You’re good to good people, you shrewdly work around the bad ones. You take the side of the down-and-out, but the stuck-up you take down a peg. 29-31 Suddenly, God, your light floods my path, God drives out the darkness. I smash the bands of marauders, I vault the high fences. What a God! His road stretches straight and smooth. Every God-direction is road-tested. Everyone who runs toward him Makes it. .... 50 Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the Gentiles, And sing praises to Your name. 51 “He is the tower of salvation to His king, And shows mercy to His anointed, To David and his descendants forevermore.”

Our Verse: Phillipians 3:14 I press on to the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. You're trying to read your Bible. You read, but you don't seem to get anything out of it. Nothing seems to click. What's this all about? Some days, some weeks, every word seems to jump right off the page, but not today. What's up? Every God follower has times like this. It's not abnormal. Think of it as a winter season. As you look at those winter trees, it looks like nothing is happening. But actually there's a lot happening. It's just that the action is not visible. Deep underground the tree is prepping for springtime. It is gathering strength for the time of growth. It's the same for a Christian. There are times of big action and growth and also times of apparent inaction when God is preparing you for new adventures. We can be strategic during these times. First, recognize the slow time for what it is. Dedicate special time for prayer. It's our Mountain concept of getting away from screens and noise to a quiet place to hear from God and tell him how you feel. He may tell you about things you need to change as His follower. Try reading other parts of your Bible. The Psalms is always a good place when you're having hard times. Often the writers of the Psalms are having tough times themselves. You will relate to their struggles and God's answers. For sure you will come out of that dry time. I have! God will send times of refreshing, newness, when hope returns and Scripture crackles with energy! This is one of the cycles of life- Dynamic action times and times to wait. Out in front of you, in time and space, God is there setting things up. People and events are being arranged and He will lead you to them at just the right moment. Press on, as our verse says, to the high calling of God in Christ Jesus!

EPAPHRAS, A SERVANT OF CHRISTColossians 4:12-13, "Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.  For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis."This meditation will be to explore the life of Epaphras who is called a servant of Christ.  Paul is the writer, Colossae is the destination, Epaphras is their minister, and Paul is giving a report of Epaphras as the servant of Christ.  Lets take a look at what Paul says about Epaphras.EPAPHRAS IS ONE OF YOUThe name of Epaphras means, “lovely, spoken of by Paul (Col. 1:7; 4:12) as "his dear fellow servant," and "a faithful minister of Christ." He was thus evidently with him at Rome when he wrote to the Colossians. He was a distinguished disciple, and probably the founder of the Colossian church. He is also mentioned in the Epistle to Philemon (1:23), where he is called by Paul his "fellow prisoner."Though Epaphras is with Paul, ministering to his needs, he is still the minister of the Church in Colossae.  Distance has not changed or altered the relationship that Epaphras had with the Church at Colossae.  Epaphras is one of you.  Next,EPAPHRAS WAS A FAITHFUL SERVANT OF CHRISTColossians 1:7, "As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;" The Church at Colossae had already received a report from Epaphras as to the condition of Paul in Rome.  Paul commends him with the words, “our dear fellowservant.” This is a great compliment coming from the Apostle.  He also says, “who is for you a faithful servant of Christ.”Not only is Epaphras a faithful servant of Christ to Paul he is also a faithful servant of the Church at Colossae who brought good words of encouragement to him. Colossians 1:8 says, "Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit." I am always impressed with the pastor who has good things to say about the Church he pastors.EPAPHRAS IS A FAITHFUL MESSENGERColossians 1:8, "Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit."There is no doubt that Paul was in need of encouragement at this time.  So the Colossians sent their pastor, Epaphras to assure Paul that they love him in the Lord and continue in prayer for him.A minister is faithful when he without compromise gives out the gospel unedited.  There is no place to compromise truth.  God will not bless the wrong interpretations of the Word preached by false teachers.  Next,EPAPHRAS WAS A FAITHFUL SERVANT OF CHRISTColossians 4:12, "Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God."It would be a great encouragement to the Church at Colossae to know that Epaphras was praying for them with such fervency as to get Paul's attention.  To be a servant of Christ is to be at His disposal at all times.  This is what Paul suggests in this verse.  While Epaphras is a long way from Colossae, he prays for them as if in their midst.  He does this as a servant of Christ.  So prayer for our church, and for others is a ministry of Christ to others, and we are the servants by which He ministers.Every God-called preacher needs to come to grips about whose servant he is going to be, i.e., a denominational servant or the servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10, "For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ."EPAPHRAS, A FERVENT PRAYER WARRIORPrayer is a lot easier to talk about than it is to do it.  We get on our knees to pray and rise in about four or five minutes and consider that a ministry of prayer.  A short time in prayer does not compare with the kind of praying Jesus did. Luke 6:12, "And it came to pass in those days,
