Today, you're coming with me to Fargo, North Dakota for a Fresh Grounded Faith event. I'm sitting at the bistro table with author and speaker Margaret Feinberg and singer-songwriter Michael O'Brien, and we are spilling the beans! We talked about how to get into the habit of meeting with God and the difference between your gifting and your calling. And we also got really honest about how to forgive when you don't want to or feel like you can't. Then we dealt with a few hard subjects, including thoughts of suicide and experiencing anger toward God. It was very gentle and wise, and you'll find it so helpful. But, even in all that hard stuff, I am telling you this was one of the funniest conversations I have had in a long time. So, get ready to think, grow, and laugh. Patrick is the DarkSky International delegate in the Fargo North Dakota area. Patrick has found that framing the light pollution argument around astronomy, animal life, ecosystems, etc. can cause some audiences to nod off and glaze over. What gets everyone's attention is “light trespass,” and human health. Lead with that and then people will listen to the other reasons why light pollution is a problem. And of course, there is the one argument that gets EVERYONE'S attention. Turn off your lights and save money! Patrick Sommer has been a lifelong enthusiast for the night sky, space exploration, and in late 2019 translated that enthusiasm into an application to be a delegate for the International Dark-Sky Association, now known as DarkSky International. Representing the organization in the Fargo, North Dakota area, by 2020 he was working social media accounts and as the world moved in and out of COVID restrictions getting in front of local sustainability and astronomy clubs. Additionally, he has represented the night to the now dormant Red River Valley Climate Action Committee and presented information on light pollution to the City of Fargo's Sustainability and Resiliency Committee and the City of Moorhead's Streetlight subcommittee. Of late he has been active with Starry Skies North, a conglomerate of Dark Sky enthusiast and activists based in Duluth and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dentures are something we've been making patients for a very long time. Some of us are still doing it the old fashioned way and there's certainly nothing wrong with that. But, without a doubt, digital dentistry has had a stunning impact on the fabrication of dentures. The question is, "Do we print or mill?" Let's find out with our guests Dr. Austin Vetter, a practicing dentist in Fargo ND and Jonny Jakson, an Exocad Designer & Trainer from Evolve Dentistry.
Listen as Sonny reaches into his radio archives to share one of his most treasured interviews with an American music icon: Bobby Vee. Their visit took place on Sonny's show at KMPC Radio in Los Angeles in 1974. Bobby shares his journey of being catapulted into the world of popular music and then looking back, a decade later, as he set out to reinvent himself. He was born Robert Velline in Fargo, ND, and, although he started playing music when he was just a young teenager, it was country music, not rock. However, he, his brother and some friends eventually formed a rock band, "The Shadows", and began to attract some attention in the Fargo area. His big "break" came when rock legends Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper and Buddy Holly died in a plane crash in 1959 en route to a concert in Minnesota. The concert's promoters decided to put on the show anyway, and asked for help from local talent. Bobby, who knew the words to all of the songs that were to be played, found himself on stage and, at 15 years old, began his career as a rock star. He and his group had a local hit with "Susie Baby", which came to the attention of executives at Liberty Records in Hollywood, and he and The Shadows were signed to the label. The next few records they cut went basically nowhere, however, and Liberty was all set to cancel their contract when a DJ in Pittsburgh played the "B" side to one of their records, a remake of an old ballad by The Clovers called "Devil or Angel". It became a hit in Pittsburgh and then spread throughout the Northeast, eventually hitting #6 on the national pop charts. Liberty then signed Vee to a five-year contract. He had a string of hits for the label, such as "Take Good Care of My Baby", "Rubber Ball", "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" and "Come Back When You Grow Up, Girl". The rest, as they say is history. *Bobby died on October 24, 2026 from complications of Alzheimer's disease, but not before leaving a legacy unforgettable music, lasting friendships and wonderful memories as a husband, father and grandfather. May he rest in peace.

Welcome back to ARTMATTERS: The Podcast for Artists. And we're back with Part 2 of my three-part conversation with Wisconsin-based artist, TL Solien. Today we conclude the exploration of his early (or phase 1) art practice, including a fun description of the origins of his pictographic works. We talk about his early career experiences in visiting and exhibiting in New York City and living for a time in Paris. We discuss family, and home-life, agreements, and finances, the difficulties following the art market crash, and TL's experience entering the culture of academia. Then we come back around to the concept or self-respect, the second phase of TL's studio practice, collage, Moby Dick, building paintings towards vibration , space, implied linearity and more. As I mentioned last week, I am extremely proud of this interview, and very thankful to my guest for his patience and his willingness to share so much of life with me and the ARTMATTERS listeners. Welcome back to ARTMATTERS: The podcast for artists. I'm particularly excited about today's episode with the artist TL Solien. Prepare yourself for an epic conversation, recorded over two separate studio visits, and subsequently over four hours of material. In light of this, I've edited this conversation down into three episodes, which will come out weekly until complete, unlike the usual bi-weekly format of the show. ● In episode 1, we get into TL's painting process and his background and education.● In episode 2, we talk about his family, his explosive early career success, and the challenges that followed the art market crash, when he was forced to seek out adjunct teaching opportunities wherever he could, move frequently, and often on his own.● And in episode 3 where i pepper him with whatever i else i forgot, including his current painting ideology and focus. Also collaging and Moby Dick. I am extremely proud of this interview, and very thankful to my guest for his patience and his willingness to share so much of life with me and the ARTMATTERS listeners. Join me as I sit down with Reed Gregory, the metalcore-loving journalist. I found Reed on TikTok, where he shares his love for Motionless in White, I Prevail and many other badass bands. He shares fun transition videos where he transforms from a fun tattooed dude to a professional anchor using different post-hardcore songs. In this episode we talk about what it's like vacillate between his two personas. Reed Gregory is a journalist and news anchor, who has a wide and extremely diverse background. After spending countless years as a young, hopeful musician, hoping to make it in the music industry, he toured across the United States and unfortunately never got to a point he was satisfied with. He quickly realized he should give another passion of his a shot, which was news and broadcasting, and attended Missouri Western State University in Missouri, and graduated with a degree in mass, communications and economics. After a wide array of jobs, such as a loan officer, a digital marketing coordinator, and honestly way too many others to name. He finally broke into the broadcasting industry and hasn't looked back since. He currently resides in Fargo North Dakota, where he anchors and reports five days a week. The conflict in Ukraine is referred to by many on social media as a Crowd Funded War. Mark J. Lindquist, an American veteran now living in Kyiv Ukraine, exemplifies this. He founded a 501(3) called The A-Team and, in cooperation with other independent volunteer fundraisers for Ukraine, runs his small, nimble non-profit that plays a pivotal role in supplying desperately needed resources for both Ukrainian soldiers and citizens. Mark J. Lindquist describes the logistical and moral problems involved in donating money to Ukraine. Mark explains the difficulties with sending gear from the United States due to politics and war profiteers.Lindquist, who is also a musician and entertainer, describes, in this show, his recent successful "40 Hour March" to raise money for a Veterans' home in Ukraine, where he marched in Fargo North Dakota.Lindquist was an orphan from Seoul, South Korea, adopted by a family in Minnesota. He went on to serve in the Air Force honorably at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii and is part of a world touring entertainment unit called Tops in Blue. He feels his service to the US and now Ukraine is an expression of his appreciation for the help and gift of freedom he was given.

A 20-hour car ride from Fargo ND calls for a highway episode. The quality of this episode isn't the greatest as the mic was passed around our rental car as we head East on I-90. A car with Coach Chris Adams, Coach Lewis Cucchiara, Tyler Ferrara and Myself(who covered the NY-USAW social media pages over the week). Brief recap of our week but looking forward to bringing others on the show in the next few weeks.
Is this gonna be a good episode? You're darned tootin! With many Cohn Brothers movie quotes aside, this is our final episode of our OTOTO states month emanating from Fargo, North Dakota in 2003. This is the first instance in 188 official episodes and 224 shows in total that we've covered that we get to talk about Arc. Arc is one of their more fascinating songs due to the weight that it holds being the tribute written for the Roskilde victims. The band would go on to play this nine times, the same number of victims from the tragedy, and none of the official bootlegs include any performance of this. We'll get into the unique presentation that it had live and how impactful it was, even as a show opener, in it's short stay that year. Another big point of conversation from this one is a version of In My Tree being played for the first time in 69 shows. This song having not been played for that long mixed in with an illness from Ed meant it was never going to be as crisp of a version that we would've heard in 1996. This became a little bit of an improv where the lyrics and music weren't exactly linear. Ed has some things on his mind and comes up with some beautiful improved lyrics for the end. We'll talk about how this set the tone for other versions of In My Tree that year, especially the version that everyone remembers from Madison Square Garden. All this and good discussion on 1/2 Full, I Am Mine, Better Man, Thumbing My Way, Rearviewmirror, I Am A Patriot and Crazy Mary.
