In its pages, you'll learn about LGBT+ presidents and Two-Spirit warriors, the inclusive progression of the gay rights movement, iconic orange juice boycotts, and the true origin of vogue dancing. From the childhood homes of historical figures to the safe spaces of grassroots organizations, this book is filled with destinations for those on their own local or cross-country tours of the past.Zaylore serves as a fierce advocate on LGBT issues. Through his law firm, Zaylore Stout & Associates, LLC he's represented HIV+ and transgender employees who were discriminated against at work. He volunteers through the LGBT Law Clinic and serves on the board for RECLAIM, an LGBTQIA+ nonprofit. He also ran for City Council in St. Louis Park where he championed the call for the passage of a Gender Inclusion Policy to protect transgender and gender non-conforming youth in schools. In November 2017, he gave an impassioned speech at the Quorum's National Coming Out Day Luncheon alongside Judy Shepard. His law firm was recently selected by the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal for their Business of Pride award, and he was also won a contest putting him on the cover of Lavender Magazine.Zaylore Stout & Associates - http://www.stoutslaw.com/Our Gay History in 50 States - https://www.gay50states.com/Project Implicit - https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.htmlSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/TalesLGBTQ+)

Garetano, whose award-winning film, Montauk Chronicles, inspired the hit show Stranger Things, has spent a lifetime searching for the truth behind some of America’s most unusual stories. Now, he begins a boots-on-the-ground investigation into the legends, mysteries and first-person accounts that fuel this country’s creepiest conspiracy theories and unexplained occurrences in the new Travel Channel series, Strange World. Over the course of eight hour-long episodes, Garetano will immerse himself in a world of the weird and bizarre, exploring everything from the alleged curse of James Dean’s death car, Little Bastard, to the extraordinary and unexplained disappearances on California’s Mount Shasta, to the legend of Polybius, a 1980’s arcade game supposedly created as a mind-control experiment gone amuck. Garetano runs us through the premiere episode concerning his ongoing investigation into Camp Hero and the Montauk Project, and then he gives us the inside scoop on some of the compelling episodes that will follow. Guest Bio: Christopher Garetano produced and directed several award-winning films, including the 2005 film, “Horror Business,” and the 2015 docudrama, “Montauk Chronicles,” which received awards for best documentary at the 2015 Philip K. I've got a few years on our Joseph but the Macintosh G3 that his father gave him (or sold him, accounts of this particular exchange differ in urban myth) and introduced him to certainly changed his direction in life… Then I got an old computer off my dad I and started messing around when I was about sixteen or seventeen. I was already an Apple user by then, as a book illustrator and then later page layout for publishing houses across the globe and finally as a designer and production manager with my own printing business. However, my first machine was a IIci. But it seems we both took a leap forward with the G3. It was at this time that Joseph learnt he knew more about melody than he thought and Metronomy was born. An interesting name based quite obviously on the metronome. They have since toured the UK and Europe and supported acts such as Coldplay. We like Metronomy and look forward to further additions to the show as we barrel along the musical highway of life. JJ & Eric As we discussed on the show, JJ Cale was certainly a musician's musician. Countless top class musos covered his work, and this 2006 collaboration with Eric Clapton is no exception. Go take a listen to see how Oklahoma born songster was revered by Clapton, amongst others. Looks like JJ's time in the US military paid off, using the electronics skills he learnt there to build his home recording studio. Although he shunned the limelight in his lifetime, he has certainly contributed greatly to music history. So what did we learn this show? Tobin didn't initially like the Neko Case track, but on further listen his brain kicked in to realise how wonderful her music is!We miss Seal, his take on Life on Mars is a treat.Close to Me by The Cure is still relevant. Check out the bizarre video in this post. Sufjan's the Fifty States gimmick and The Cure riff The title of the album is Come On! Feel the Illinoise!, a play on words of Slade's Cum On Feel the Noize from 1973, and a series of musical journeys based around the US state of Illinois. Clearly, Sufjan has failed in his dream of recording an album for every state in the US, but his two offerings are well worth a listen. However, we did like his reference to the riff from The Cure song that preceded it. It shows The Cure are still relevant today. His first recording in this failed project/publicity stunt is also a rewarding and satisfying listen, and for ease, From the Bottom of the Record Box has added a link right here! BOOM. I have no qualms about admitting it was a promotional gimmick.

Questions are answered like: Concealed Reciprocity, Safe passage laws, layovers at airports, Law vs. Policy and much more. What do you do when traveling on airlines and you get a layover overnight? What to do when using safe passage laws and the State Trooper asks if yo have guns in the car? Get this an more answered. More about Scott: Scott Kappas was born and raised in the great gun-loving commonwealth of Kentucky. From an early age, Scott learned from his parents to appreciate the personal liberties that Americans enjoy more fully than any other people. But on a family vacation to the northeast, he found that not all rights were as well respected as others. The sign at the Massachusetts border stated “minimum 1 year in prison for violating any firearm law of this commonwealth.” Thinking that this applied only to felons possessing firearms, Scott and his family ignored the warning and continued onward. Upon returning home, he found that simply having a gun in the glove compartment without a Massachusett’s carry license would be enough to send him to prison for a year. He decided to research the issue and find out more. This was how the Traveler’s Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty States was born. The book is currently in its 22nd edition with over 1,000,000 copies sold since the first edition was published in 1996. Owners of recreational vehicles make up one of the book’s largest readerships. But any gun owner who travels with a firearm will find the Traveler’s Guide’s insight extremely helpful. Aside from being favorably reviewed by a host of magazine editors, the book is sold at the NRA’s famous national firearms museum and used by the National Football League and National Basketball Association as reference material for their security directors and players. Along with being an attorney licensed to practice in the state and federal courts of Kentucky, Scott is a Class III firearms dealer. He sells machine guns, suppressors, and short barreled shotguns to qualified persons. He also enjoys shooting such weapons. His favorite is the German HK-33 which can be seen in the pictures to the left. He likes almost any full-auto firearm with a military history and also enjoys shooting semi-automatic replicas. Scott is active in politics as well as business. He enjoys speaking to gun owner groups about legal issues concerning firearms and also lectures to college students who are not always predisposed to pro-gun positions. Scott serves as a corporate sponsor of the Kentucky Coalition to Carry Concealed. He is also a life member of the National Rifle Association and believes that grass roots involvement in the fight to preserve the citizen’s right to bear arms is essential to maintaining this important freedom. Scott has appeared as a guest on statewide pubic affairs programs such as Kentucky Tonight and has also been interviewed about gun issues by the local Fox and ABC affiliate channels. Scott recently wrote an article for the Kentucky lawyer’s magazine “Bench & Bar” entitled “Dueling and Kentucky Firearms Jurisprudence (see p. 10 article link). The article provided a detailed examination of the history of firearms carry and its treatment by the courts in Kentucky. Scott has also written several feature articles for Handguns magazine. One, entitled “The Ten Worst Places to Travel with your Handgun,” was quoted by several media personalities as evidence that the states with the strictest handgun carry laws have the highest crime rates. Another, “Firearms Carry in National Parks”, examined the legality of gun carry in our national parks and advocated the implementation of the current National Park Service allowance for concealed carry by recognized permittees. A third article discussed the expiration of the Clinton assault weapon ban of 1994. All three articles were favorably received by the magazine’s readers and helped provide some much-needed answers to relevant legal question. Scott’s education inc

Do you remember episode 2 and episode 11? Both Trevor Fast and Andrea Zeng took this dude’s chocolate class and were even promoted to work in chocolate production on campus. Today, we’re interviewing a man who has been enamoured with food all his life. He was our professor at Cal Poly, he owned and owns bakeries and chocolate shops, and he spends his time donating chocolate-making equipment to Africa. This man is the one and only: Dr. Tom Neuhaus. If you would like to listen to more of our episodes, make sure to check out our itunes link. If you like them, we would love it if you could rate and review. Thanks! About Dr. Tom Neuhaus Rich. That’s one word that comes to mind when we listen to this episode. Retired professor, business owner and philanthropist, Dr. Tom Neuhaus is rich with stories, experiences, knowledge and, well, chocolate! After an adventurous life baking and cooking across the world and teaching at some of the most well known academic food universities, we have decided that Dr. Nehaus is the epitome of food and science. After training as a chef and baker in Europe, mainly in France and Austria, Dr. Neuhaus found himself eager to open his own restaurant.  Leaving his first restaurant, Sweetish Hill Bakery and Restaurant in Austin, Texas, Dr. Neuhaus found his way to New York City and later Washington D.C. as an Executive Chef at restaurants like Quo Vadis and Fifty States. Following a myriad of prestigious chef positions he entered the world of academia; writing columns for The Washington Post as well as teaching at Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration (where he earned his PhD). Most recently he taught at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo teaching Sensory Science, Food and Culture, as well as his famous Chocolate Classes! Mama Ganache In 2004, Dr. Neuhaus opened Mama Ganache, a small chocolate business in San Luis Obispo. Mama Ganache makes high quality, ethically sourced and produced chocolates that are both Fair Trade and Organic Certified. Through his business, Dr. Neuhaus has begun making directly sourced chocolates that are not only quality treats but also bring awareness to fair trade and small cocoa farmers in West Africa. Project Hope and Fairness (PHF), founded by Dr. Neuhaus, helps cocoa farmers in Ghana and Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire) with their cocoa production, manufacturing, sales and trade. PHF grounds itself in three platforms- directly supporting cocoa farmers, educating consumers about the cocoa market and encouraging larger chocolate producers to see the importance in adopting Fair Trade policies. We fully believe Dr. Neuhaus hit the nail on the head with his philosophy on being creative, fully inspired and excited by food. We hope you enjoy this high-energy episode with a wonderful and passionate Food Scientist.  Hey Oprah! Are you listening?!?
