Open the show with a great Irish work song and we get chatting about Ireland, the beautiful country and people, the great food and work ethic. What a pleasure to have Kevin on the show and everyone knows Manny will always have a special place for the masonry trades. On with the show. Arriving in Canada in January, five years ago got into autoparts first, and after a number of odd jobs including the rickshaws by the Skydome aka Rogers Centre, yes he did that for a little while to build up his endurance but construction was quickly calling him. Beginning with all sorts of block, underpinning, brick work that all led to restoration work and why Canada has so much damaged brick work and why being a mason is in very high demand. The conversation shifts into the next generation of masons and why most of them have a hard time with an honest hard days work. Most tradespeople will always focus on the problem and not thrive on finding the solution to all sorts of construction problems, this is construction, there will always be problems. Kevin brings up yoga and how yoga has helped him deal with aches and pains from the construction life. Kevin shares that he can find knowledge in every crack and corner and aske the other trades, even the cranky trades, rub their belly and get them to share. Kevin started like most masons, mixing the mortar, carrying the brick, feeding the mason to keep the production going. Kevin is interested in building a great atmosphere of masons on every site. We end the show with an interesting story on the name of his business and how it came about while he was on holidays. Kevin has a lot to say about the industry, the cast of odd balls that get into construction and how much he loves them for it. It's really about coming into work with the right attitude, so simple. College applicants are often asked to demonstrate levels of interest that imply devotion, reverence, and unshakeable commitment. But do all schools reciprocate that respect? Amy and Mike invited IEC and author Kevin Martin to explore whether colleges care about their applicants. What are five things you will learn in this episode? Why would someone think that elite colleges don't care about applicants? How does the concept of holistic review increase uncertainty in admissions? What elements of a college application feel frivolous or unnecessary? What does virtue signaling mean in the context of college admissions? How might the application process be revised to add dignity and clarity? MEET OUR GUEST Kevin Martin graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Texas at Austin. After serving in UT-Austin's Office of Admissions, where he reviewed and scored thousands of applications, he completed a Fulbright Fellowship in Malaysia and currently travels the world while helping students gain admission to top-50 universities through his business Tex Admissions. Martin doesn't offer simple Admissions 101 “how-to to write a killer essay” advice or promise “six easy steps” for Ivy League acceptance. Instead, Surviving the College Admissions Madness is the first of its kind to integrate applicant psychology with the sociology and economics of higher education. Martin observes that a system of bad incentives in education and society wastes hundreds of millions of hours each admissions cycle. It produces profound suffering for tens of thousands of students each year. He writes for families and high school educators who want a deeper understanding of the truth. Martin also provides helpful advice for avoiding application mistakes, building a reasonable college list, minimizing debt, identifying cognitive errors and distortions, and helping you reframe your college applications. Martin equips readers with the vocabulary, frameworks, and tools to make sense of America's broken higher education system, starting with the admissions gatekeepers. In this episode of Owning She Host, Shena L Vee talks about "why are good men are hard to find?" Kevin R. Samuels and what he means by a stray woman, and Tessica Brown's "Gorilla Glue Girl" new haircare line. Shena talks to her listeners about how women don't realize that the very man they are looking for is sometimes right under your nose, but we refuse to see him and wind up running him off because we carry so much emotional damage. As a relationship advisor, Shena is fed up with women complaining about what a man is supposed to do and how women sit back and act as though nothing is required of them; and how to improve. Find Kevin's previous episodes https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22kevin+vaught%22 (HERE) Key Talking Points Developing customer experience- the customer is more willing to pay more if the experience meets the criteria to warrant the price. Customer service is different than the experience. Big things are expected (fix the car and have some complimentary amenities), what about the little things (using first name basis, water bottles with logo in the cup holder when ready). You need to have the entire team involved. Treating internal (employees) and external (customers) with high value. You don't need money to be kind and nice to others. How does the building look? What is the smell when walking in? How are employees dressed? Do they have nametags? When organizations were asked to rate their quality of Customer Experience, 80% believe they are delivering a superior experience. This is compared to only 8% of customers who believe they are receiving a great Customer Experience GLUE- giving little unexpected extras Number one priority is to treat customers like kings and queens- they are the most important person that day. Relationship business- want customers to keep coming back the rest of their lives, they are not an interruption in your day You're being compared to a customer's last great experience (inside and outside the industry). What is a good experience for them? Ask them! Technical knowledge means nothing to customers- they don't know and want to know when the car will be done. Technology won't replace the experience a customer gets, it is a tool. Overpromise and under deliver- customers remember that more than the price of services What's your favorite restaurant? Is it based on price or comfort and service? Every customer will talk about a good or bad experience to others You make sales with conversation, not email or texts Don't chase money, money will follow with exceptional service “We don't fix cars, we take care of people” Raise your standards and communicate them to your team, doesn't happen overnight. Have a plan and procedure until it is engrained. Make everyone accountable with clear expectations. Kevin commented, the conversation continued in messages and then in a phone call, and Kevin has such a deep and innovative perspective on hiring that we just had to do an episode around it. While most sales leaders think about how to hire in terms of ads, resume screens, and interviews, Kevin starts well before then by asking if it is the right time to hire, if the company is prepared to support new salespeople, and how they can make sure the new people win alongside the existing team. Kevin shares some solid ideas and insights around all of that and more. It’s a great episode - enjoy! 0:45 - What’s the single best piece of sales advice that Kevin has ever received? 3:42 - What’s the worst advice about sales that Kevin has ever heard or received? 5:09 - David sets up the topic for the show - frustrations around hiring for sales roles 05:46 - Kevin starts his consideration for hiring into sales roles in a unique place - when to hire - and here he starts to unpack why that’s important 7:37 - What kinds of metrics should a company look at before considering whether or not it’s the right time to add more salespeople to the team? 9:58 - How hiring at the wrong time or for the wrong reasons has a negative impact on team culture 11:12 - What are some of the other big pieces that a sales org should have in place before deciding to add new salespeople to the team? 13:05 - Most companies don’t have the kind of well-established ecosystem Kevin describes to hire into, so what’s the big deal? What’s the negative impact of hiring when the company they are hired into doesn’t have their duck in a row? 16:07 - Kevin explains the idea that “a good marketing team is actually a really well-trained sales team” and the power and impact of a first impression with prospects in the market 16:49 - Is there a connection between bad sales hiring practices and the short shelf life of the average VP of Sales? 19:18 - How organizations who are hoping for a sales miracle within an siloed environment can start to take a more integrated approach to customer success from multiple departments? 20:54 - The future of successful sales organizations is bigger than the future of successful sales organizations 23:11 - What advice would Kevin offer to someone who is in sales now and who might be considering a move into sales management 26:08 - Where is the best place to find Kevin and his content

In 2007, after more than a decade as a popular teacher at various schools in Manhattan and Brooklyn, J. founded http://www.abhyasayogacenter.com/ (Abhyasa Yoga Center) in Brooklyn, NY. AYC was created to provide a home for yoga practice that adapts to individual needs. In 2013, J. also released "http://jbrownyogavideo.com/ (J. Brown's Yoga DVD)" which is now in 16 countries around the world. Find J https://www.jbrownyoga.com/ (here). Find Kevin https://kevinboyleyoga.ie/ (here). Support this podcast

Hello, and welcome to Methods, an exploration in guided prayer and meditation. This is a visualization meditation on the spiritual quality of joy led by Kevin Johnson. Being willing to rest, to stop seeking is a simple process but it is not necessarily easy. And our culture and the popular mindset can often misguide us. How to simply learn to trust and be open to a deepening silence? How to stay focused when one's mind seems to be caught in spinning unhelpful stories and your mind acts like an echo chamber? There are an infinite number of ways and there aren't any one-size fits all templates. We each have to find our own way. But if one is a beginner, or one wishes to have a set practice they can use to help in times when it is tough sitting in patient waiting, a common practice of imaginative visualization based on our memory can help. The Paul Gough Audio Experience: Business Lessons for Physical Therapists
In this one I talk to Kevin Vandi of Competitive Edge PT in San Jose. Kevin started his practice just 4 years and is already at a $1,000,000 in revenue, he has a practice manager and three full time PTs and he's stepped down to just 8 hours per week of treating patients per week. I've worked with Kevin from the very early days of him starting his clinic and it's been amazing to watch him grow so fast. I stuck up a connection with Kevin early on as I felt both of us had similar values; that we valued spending more time with our family than we did being a slave to a business. We both agree that a business is there to support an amazing home life and we're prepared to take the necessary steps to achieve it. In this episode we talk about metrics, hiring the right people, his dedication to training as well as the time he spends away from his business that he says helps him grow his business. More: we get into what it takes to truly “optimize” your team members and as you'll discover, getting the best from your team has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with improving their clinical skills. Listen in and enjoy the show and pick up some invaluable lessons on what it takes to get to the point of running a 7 figure business, step back from patient care, and still be at home for dinner and present with your family. If you're interested in emulating Kevin's success, here's his learning pathway with me: Step 1: New Patient Accelerator (www.AcceleratorNow.com) Step 2: PT Business Growth School (www.ptprofitacademy.com/bgs) Step 3: 4% Club Mastermind Program (www.paulgough.com/mastermind) Step 4: CEO Mastermind Leave me your comments, thoughts and questions from today's Podcast on Twitter: @ThePaulGough. =========== Find Kevin through his website and on social media https://www.compedgept.com/ Instagram- @kevinvandipt Twitter- @CEmotionPT Facebook- https://www.facebook.com/TheCompetitiveEDGEPT/ ================ More Resources by Paul Gough: Check out Paul's No.1 Best Selling Physical Therapy Business Books: Marketing Book For Physical Therapists - "New Patient Accelerator Method": www.paulsmarketingbook.com Hiring Book for Physical Therapists - "The Physical Therapy Hiring Solution": www.paulshiringbook.com
