Happy New Year. 2024 we come back with a bang with the erudite gentleman Lawson Mpame sharing with us his lone wolf journey in the world of Fashion and Creative Direction. Lawson has worked with some incredible brands including, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Zalando, Primark and more, featuring on RTE, Image, Tatler, Irish Country Magazine and beyond. Lawson moved to Ireland from Zimbabwe at the age of 15 and had to navigate a new country, culture and friendships to find his own path in Ireland. His journey to success has not always been easy, he had to go to battle with his father in order to pursue his dream career in fashion, and avoid the route the rest of his family had taken in medicine and law. Lawson talks about his unique perspective as a straight, black man, in an industry where the majority of his peers are women and gay men. He discusses being single and his time on First Dates Ireland and highlights how sometimes it is good to spend time alone to find out what you really want from life.Lawson talks about his proud inclusion in the 2023 book 'Black and Irish' and how important it is to stand out from the crowd and be proud of who you are, which can often be expressed in how we dress and present ourselves to the world. Lawson is a brilliant example of a Solo Powered man in many aspects of his life. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Welcome to episode 37 with the Boujee blonde girls Have you ever had one of those days where everything seems to go wrong? Let me tell you, Melissa had quite the day when she found herself at a stinky gas station with the world's worst coffee in hand. Who knew such a day could make for a hilarious story? Simone throws in her own mishaps and we both share our thoughts on the ever-rising prices and strategies for Christmas shopping. We even debate whether to order presents online or risk the kiddos finding out!Ever heard of "bed rotting"? It's a controversial coping strategy where you stay in bed all day to deal with stress and anxiety. While it may sound enticing, we weigh up the pros and cons of such a move and emphasize the importance of fresh air and physical activity. We even tackle a listener's dilemma on whether to settle down or travel solo for a year or two, providing some advice on balancing personal desires and relationship needs. And let's not forget about the nerve-wracking world of first dates. What are the questions that should be off the table? We challenge the old rule of avoiding politics and religion, and stress understanding a potential partner's work-life balance. They share our own experiences and opinions, and mind you, we don't shy away from the juicy details. So buckle up, grab your coffee (hopefully better than Melissa's), and get ready for a laughter-filled episode that will leave you wanting more!To get in touch email Boujeeblondespodcast@gmail.comInstagram @BoujeeblondespodcastLots of loveMelissa and Simonexx
In this brilliant episode Ariana chats to the indomitable reality star, disability rights activist and BBC documentary maker Paddy Smyth. We talk about Paddys challenge throughout life, finding love and acceptance for himself as a gay disabled man living with cerebral palsy. Overcoming adversity and grief through the loss of his parents, his desire to be famous, his foray into reality tv as a contestant on First Dates Ireland in 2017 before going onto win Channel 4's 'The Circle' in the UK in 2019. Paddy recently released an incredibly inspiring and thought-provoking BBC documentary called 'Should I be fixed' about medical advancements for disabled people and the identity that is often wrapped up in their disability, begging the question 'should you fix your disability if you could?'. Paddy proves that being disabled can be empowering and encourages listeners to go out and live your dreams on your own terms. #disability #disabilityrights #diversityandinclusion#gayanddisabled#realitystar#empowering #loveyourself#lovewhatyoudo. This week, the guys address some feedback from their debut episode and properly introduce themselves. Alex talks about his experience being on the reality show, First Dates Ireland, and Max discusses Twitter trolls and his recent experience being one. They talk about understanding your body as you age into your 20s, knowing when you’re too drunk, and just not being the same athletes they once were in their prime. They bring on a call-in guest, Bryan, who is (assistant to the) financial controller of something-something in the U.S. and they chat about moving in with your significant other, destination weddings, and of course, sh*tting yourself. They finish it off with some drunken wisdom – an idea is only an idea until you do it. Whatever it is that you are passionate about, stop thinking about it and just go out there and do it.
You've just had dinner in a restaurant. The food was only luke warm. The waiter comes round and asks "How was everything?" and you say "Everything was lovely, thank you".You're at the hairdressers. Your hair is a lot shorter than you asked for. The hairdresser holds up the mirror and asks "Do you like it?" and you reply "I love it, thank you".Do either of these situations sound familiar to you? What is it with the Irish and complaining? Is it something we're genetically incapable of doing? Or, have we moved past the stereotype? He may not have found love on First Dates Ireland recently, but Paddy Smyth did win the hearts of the nation. The 28-year-old trended on Twitter during, and after, the show and has since begun presenting a slot on TV3’s 6 o’clock show. Paddy was already a star before all this though, having amassed a huge Snapchat following documenting his day-to-day life living with Cerebral Palsy with his now signature candour and humour. On this podcast, Paddy told Róisín Ingle about his 'almost famous' moment, making it down to the last twenty for Big Brother during its heyday on Channel 4. He also spoke about dating with a disability, why it's important to highlight the fun aspects of being disabled, and why no gay teenager should ever come out to their parents the way he did. It seems like there's a Wednesday every Wednesday, and with that comes a new podcast! This week the lads were joined, for the fourth time, by the Servant of the State and (Probable) Super Spy Eoghan Courtney (@EWCourtney) for chats on the Inauguration on Supreme Leader Trump and First Dates Ireland! They also discuss the new HBO sensation, The Young Pope, have a massive discussion on Mixed Martial Arts, Talk about Joooooee Duffyyyy, and a proper philosophical conundrum, is a hot dog a sandwich?
This week on the award winning WTSpod Danny & Mero welcome author and film producer, Paul Fischer, to the podcast to discuss the maddest country on the planet, North Korea. Paul's book "A Kim Jong Il Production: The extraordinary true story of a kidnapped film maker, his star actress and a young dictators rise to fame." documents the story of a set of daring kidnappings by the secretive state all in a bid to create some block buster movies in the name of North Korea. The story of Choi Eun Hee, South Korea's most famous actress and her ex-husband, Shin Sang-OK has become the stuff of legend. Even today some people in South Korea don't believe it happened, and Paul explains the lengths he had to go to to convince Choi to meet him as she feared the North trying to take her once again. From talking about the story in a pub to actually visiting the isolated country and being a tourist in Pyongyang, Paul Fischer's story and book can't be missed. On top of this we have Mero talking about his recent experience of Darkness into Light and Danny has been trying to get Mero on First Dates Ireland. Remember to rate, review, subscribe and share the love.
