fWotD Episode 2455: Fluorine Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Wednesday, 24 January 2024 is Fluorine.Fluorine is a chemical element; it has symbol F and atomic number 9. It is the lightest halogen and exists at standard conditions as a highly toxic, pale yellow diatomic gas. Fluorine is extremely reactive, as it reacts with all other elements except for the light inert gases.Among the elements, fluorine ranks 24th in universal abundance and 13th in terrestrial abundance. Fluorite, the primary mineral source of fluorine which gave the element its name, was first described in 1529; as it was added to metal ores to lower their melting points for smelting, the Latin verb fluo meaning 'flow' gave the mineral its name. Proposed as an element in 1810, fluorine proved difficult and dangerous to separate from its compounds, and several early experimenters died or sustained injuries from their attempts. Only in 1886 did French chemist Henri Moissan isolate elemental fluorine using low-temperature electrolysis, a process still employed for modern production. Industrial production of fluorine gas for uranium enrichment, its largest application, began during the Manhattan Project in World War II.Owing to the expense of refining pure fluorine, most commercial applications use fluorine compounds, with about half of mined fluorite used in steelmaking. The rest of the fluorite is converted into corrosive hydrogen fluoride en route to various organic fluorides, or into cryolite, which plays a key role in aluminium refining. Molecules containing a carbon–fluorine bond often have very high chemical and thermal stability; their major uses are as refrigerants, electrical insulation and cookware, and PTFE (Teflon). Pharmaceuticals such as atorvastatin and fluoxetine contain C−F bonds. The fluoride ion from dissolved fluoride salts inhibits dental cavities, and so finds use in toothpaste and water fluoridation. Global fluorochemical sales amount to more than US$69 billion a year.Fluorocarbon gases are generally greenhouse gases with global-warming potentials 100 to 23,500 times that of carbon dioxide, and SF6 has the highest global warming potential of any known substance. Organofluorine compounds often persist in the environment due to the strength of the carbon–fluorine bond. Fluorine has no known metabolic role in mammals; a few plants and sea sponges synthesize organofluorine poisons (most often monofluoroacetates) that help deter predation. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:23 UTC on Wednesday, 24 January 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Fluorine on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Kimberly Neural.

In this podcast episode, we compare two popular fishing knots: the "Alberto" and the "Albright." The "Alberto" knot, invented by "Crazy Alberto" Knie over two decades ago, is gaining popularity among anglers worldwide due to its ease of tying. The "Albright" knot, created by Florida Keys guide Jimmy Albright in the 1950s, was initially intended for tarpon fishing but has since become a favorite among anglers. In this episode, we conduct a comprehensive test to determine which knot is more reliable and practical. You wouldn't expect the results! Being a camera gear geek, I was delighted to interview Chris Niccolls (interview starts at 47:16) of DP Review TV. (If you are also a camera geek, you probably read DP Review regularly.) Chis is a photography teacher as well as a video star, has worked in camera shops, and currently works in a fly shop in Calgary. In the interview, he gives some fantastic tips on how to take better fish and fishing pictures in both the video and still formats. He also suggests some brands and models of phones, cameras, and drones that he feels are best suited for fishing photography. I know I learned a whole mess of new tricks for taking better fishing pictures, and I am sure you will, too. In the Fly Box, we cover plenty of topics that may help answer questions you have had about fly fishing: Should I get a 6½-foot or 7½-foot rod for small streams? What weight line is best, and should I get a Double Taper or Weight Forward line? Do you carry a small seine with you when trout fishing? How many wind knots should I expect in a day of fishing? I fish for salmon and stripers. Should I get a full-sinking or sinking-tip line in addition to my floating line? How do you travel with fly rods? Do you carry them on or check them? Would a 12-foot, 6-inch two-handed rod be OK for both stripers and smallmouths? What do you think offly clips? Should I use nylon or Fluorocarbon tippets for dries and nymphs? I have lost my passion for fly fishing. Does this ever happen to you? A suggestion from a listener on targeting white bass in Texas on their spawning runs If I only had one type of line for stripers, bass, and pike because of expense, what line should I buy? Do you have any suggestions for catching stocked trout when the spin guys are catching tons of them using corn as bait? Is there a big difference between the Battenkill IV Spey and Battenkill IV disc? Is there an advantage to using a rotary vise? How long does it take trout eggs to hatch?
How to Make the Best Mutton Snapper Fishing Leader for targeting Mutton Snappers in the Florida Keys Mutton Snapper Fishing Rods In my opinion the absolute best Mutton Snapper Fishing Rods are Spiral Wrapped Fishing Rods that are light weight. With a Spiral Wrapped fishing rod an angler can now fight larger fish with less fatigue over long periods of time and worry less about the pulling the hook. Spiral Wrapped Fishing Rod Advantages Designed to reduce torque Will not twist under heavy load-perfect balance Extremely stable How to Select a Muttons Snapper Fishing Rod Listed below are the Spiral Wrapped fishing rods I use on Mutton Snapper fishing charters in the Florida Keys. These rods are very light, extremely strong and have the perfect action for setting the hook on large Mutton Snappers and have enough backbone for fighting large Mutton Snappers. Both types of fishing rods listed below are custom made by Adrenaline Custom Fishing Rods. Rods I Recommend for Mutton Snapper Custom Made by Adrenaline Fishing Rods 6’6 40/80 Medium Fast Action Heavy Power Spiral Wrapped Rod. *Fuji Silicon Nitride Guides. These fuji guides are heavy duty. This rod has a fast action tip to reduce pulling hooks. This is a thick rod with a lot of backbone. Cost-$219.00 6’6 30/80 Medium Fast Action X-Heavy Power-Graphite Composite (Ultra Light) *Fuji Silicon Nitride Guides. This rod is extremely light, has a fast action tip to reduce pulling hooks and thinner than the rod I described above. Cost-$259.00 *The guides on my Mutton Snappers rods are all high quality Fuji Silicon Nitride Guides. These guides are larger in diameter so when I reel swivels through these guides I am not concern about breaking them. If you have a favorite rod you like bottom fishing with, but the rod does not have heavy duty Fuji Silicon Nitride Guides, I recommend that you have your the guides replaced with larger diameter Fuji Silicon Nitride Guides. Most custom rod shops will do this for you. I highly recommend Fuji Silicon Nitride Guides. How to Make a Removable Weight for Mutton Snapper Fishing https://vimeo.com/362443286 How to Make the Best Mutton Snapper Fishing Leader Balloon Fisher King balloon clips can be a highly effective quick and easy, adjustable down bait weight clip for bottom fishing, suspending a bait at specific depth in the water column for slow trolling live or dead bait. I personally like to use an 18 pound 4 inch zip-tie to connect a bank sinker to the Balloon Fisher King pressure clip. I slide a small zip-tie though the groove in the clip and attach the clip to a bank sinker weight, then clip off the tag end of the zip-tie. I like to use a zip-tie because I want the weight to break way in the event it gets caught on the bottom with a big fish. The Best Mutton Snapper Fishing Reels I prefer using the Shimano Talica 20 and 16 2-Speed fishing reels for Mutton Snapper fishing in the Florida Keys. All the reels I use use for Mutton Snapper fishing are spooled with 30 pound Power Pro Braid. Why do I Spool My Reels with 30 Pound Braid 30 pound braided line spooled on my Mutton Snappers reels gives me a lot of line capacity. This allows us to fish great depths at ease using smaller light weight reels. When we hook large fish like wahoo, I have plenty of line capacity on the smaller reel, therefore I don’t have to worry about getting spooled. Because the 30 pound braided line has a extremely small diameter it cuts through the water and finds the bottom pretty easily in all types of current, wind and sea conditions. How to Make the Best Mutton Snapper Fishing Leader Mutton Snapper Wind-On Light Tackle Leader Step 1 Double the 30 pound braid main line using a Spider Hitch knot. Spider Hitch to Double the 30 pound Braid Line, why do I use it? A Spider Hitch Knot is simpler to tie than the Bimini Twist Knot. By doubling the 30 pound braided line using a Spider Hitch Knot I increase the breaking strength of the 30 pound braided line by 20-30% or more than its manufactured rating. Clients can now fight larger fish they hook while bottom fishing with higher drag settings. Step 2 Tie a 2 ft. piece of 40 pound fluorocarbon to the 30 pound braid double line using a Bristol Knot. This short piece of 40 pound fluorocarbon leader is used for attaching the removable in-line sinker. *The importance using this short Piece of 40 FluorocarbonPound Leader. I have found that the standard Balloon Fisher king clips work very well when pressure clipped to 40 pound fluorocarbon line, but I do struggle a little when I attaching these pressure clips to fluorocarbon line greater than 40 pound fluorocarbon leader. Fluorocarbon leader line has no stretch and is capable of handling greater weight than monofilament fishing line or braid making it perfect for attaching heavy inline weights for Mutton Snapper fishing in the Florida Keys. Another benefit of this short connection is that it acts a “buffer” connection between the braided line and the long leader connection. For example, when I need to replace the long leader line for any reason, I simply cut it at the swivel connection and re-tie quickly. A Bristol Knot has a smaller profile than most and passes easily through my rod guides with ease. I get an extremely strong knot when I tie this short piece of 40 lb. fluorocarbon line to the 30 pound double braided main line using the Bristol Knot. Fluorocarbon does have a smaller line diameter than monofilament so it makes it very easy for me to attach the Balloonfisher King removable inline weight to the short piece of fluorocarbon, more so than when I used to use monofilament. This piece of short piece of 40 lb. fluorocarbon takes some abuse so I recommend checking frequently. *I will be testing a short piece of heavy hollow core braid line over the next couple month that may potentially replace this short piece of 40 pound Flurocarbon similar to the removable planer bridal sold by tackleroom.com. Step 3 Measure out 70-100 feet of 30 pound fluorocarbon leader then connect this long leader piece of 30 pound fluorocarbon leader line The Main reason why I use Fluorocarbon leader is not only for stealth Fluorocarbon line has incredible abrasion resistance, it withstands the abuse of rigorous bottom fishing for Mutton Snappers in the Florida Keys and has minimal stretch. Step 4 Connect the short piece of 40 pound fluorocarbon (created in Step 2 ) to the 30 pound fluorocarbon longer leader (created in Step 3) via a 75 pound Diamond Brand Ball Bear Swivel using and improved clinch knot. The Diamond Ball Bearing Swivel does the following: Prevents the Balloon Fisher King In-Line Weight from sliding down the line onto the hook. Diamond Ball Bearings swivels significantly reduce line twists compared to all others I have used to date. Step 5 Tie on a hook-I use circle hooks (sizes 2, 3, or 4 inline or offset) I use either Gamakatsu or Owner brand. Size the hooks appropriately for the live bait. I prefer using an improved clinch knot for tying hooks to the terminal end of the main leader. Step 6 Hook the Live Bait-When power drifting or slow trolling the bottom for Mutton Snappers using the engine, I always hook the live bait through the nostrils. I then peg the live bait to the hook using a Bait Button this help prevent live the bait from wrapping over on itself and fouling. Step 7 Set the Leader with the live bait-When deploying the rig, put the reel in free spool with the clicker on. Power the boat forward a little to get the bait swimming behind the boat, get the leader stretched out and stop at the swivel. I use my Rhodan Trolling 120 Volt Trolling motor in Track Mode to power the boat hands free using the remote while setting the lines. This allows me to make sure the baits are set correctly. The Rhodan Trolling Motor gives me a signifiant advantage especially on days with light current and no wind. Step 8 Once leader is complete stretched out (make sure the bait is swimming nice behind the boat) attach the the Balloon Fisher King pressure clip with weight directly above the Diamond Ball Bearing swivel. Attach the clip directly above the swivel that connects the short piece of 40 pound fluorocarbon to the 30 pound fluorocarbon. Power boat forward and send the bait to the bottom slowly while the boat is moving forward. Do not set the bait like you are in a race or you asking for a large tangle. Step 9 Put the Mutton Snapper in the Boat When the fish comes to the top I have the client walk up the rail, then I come in and quickly remove the inline weight. One the clip is removed the swivel is small enough to reel through the rod guides to the reel the fish all the way to the boat. Set the Rod in the Rod holder and start fishing and let the rod holder and boat hook hook the fish. How to Vertical Jig for Tunas, Snappers, Groupers, Wahoo, Amberjacks, Golden Tile Fish and Wahoo. In this podcast I reveal new vertical jigging tips including a secret vertical jigging technique that I have not shared publicly on instagram or facebook. The new "secret technique" is guaranteed to catch you more Blackfin Tuna when you vertical jig the Islamorada Hump. Here a few tips to help you get started or improve upon your vertical jigging game. My Jigging Set Up I use Shimano Twin Power 8000. It is an extremely light weight reel with awesome drag and ultra fast retrieve. Perfect for my style of jigging. I prefer speed jigging. It is easy to do with the right equipment and its great work out. Rods: Have Rods custom built for jigging that match your style. Rods need to be extremely light weight and built to match your style of vertical jigging. I use rods built by Adrenaline Rods. You can visit www.adrenalinecustomfishingrods.com There is so much information out there about jigging ones. To keep it short and simple- Order one for Tuna Fishing and order one capable of handling a big Amberjack/Grouper. Do your home work. If you have questions about my rods just email me. Terminal Tackle Set Up I spool my reels used for jigging with 40 lb. braid line. The vertical jigs I use on my fishing charters perform at their best tied to 40 lb. braided line. I double the braid line using a Spider Hitch knot. I always make a double line line. This doubles the strength of braided line and allows me to target big Amberjacks using lighter line. Using an Improved Bristol Knot, I connect top shot of Fluorocarbon to the braid double line. Connect your fluorocarbon leader to the solid ring on the jig using whatever knot you feel comfortable with. As I said in previous podcasts I do not offer terminal end knot recommendations. Tie the jig to solid steel ring using any knot you feel comfortable with. Also sharpen over the counter manufacture assist hooks before use. Always and I mean always test your knot, especially if you are targeting large fish. Sometimes you get a bad spool of fluorocarbon or you hit a bad spot on the braid. Testing knots will catch this. I always and I mean always test my knots no matter how much confidence I have in them. I always double check my work and the manufactures work. It has saved the day more than once. I guess old habits are hard to break. Vertical Jigging can provide non-stop action. When I arrive at a vertical jig spot, I like to take some time to figure out the drift. Prior to starting the day. I review my past drift tracks on the the fishing spots by using historical track logs saved by date in my Atlas Track database. This saves me a lot of time. I check the wind direction in the morning then review a couple possible drift patterns based on what I “think” the current maybe doing. I have to be mentally prepared and having historical drift patterns based on wind and current direction saves me a lot time. I know now which spots are worth fishing and which spots I should avoid based on historical data. Once I determine which way our drift will carry us across the spot, I calculate our drift speed. After calculating the drift, we start 100 yards ahead of the fishing spot we plan on jigging. Once I hit a point of reference on the GPS that I marked (as a drop point). I then let the angler drop vertical jig. Now with the Seakeeper, I turn the boat broadside so two anglers can safely jig. One guy can safely jig off the bow and one guy can jig off the back near the helm. Dialing In For bottom dwelling fish such as snappers and groupers. The angler will let the jig stay on the bottom for a few seconds, bounce it off the bottom 3-4 times that will give the fish a chance to investigate and at times the fish will pick it up and eat the jig. Think like a spear diver when it comes to jigging the bottom around wrecks. Spear divers brush the bottom of the ocean surface with their hands generating clouds of sediment and religiously use underwater lights and flashers to attract fish such as grouper, wahoo, snapper and cobia into their kill zone. The jig bouncing off the seafloor creates vibratory sounds and “clouds” of sediment/sand. This action draws the attention of big fish from hundreds of yards of way.If the angler does not draw a strike he will then lift the jig 5-10 ft. and repeat the process. If the bottom dwelling fish do not cooperate, the angler starts working the jig higher up into the water column. Lifting the jig 30-50 ft. then dropping it back down. Big Amberjacks roam this area. If the angler does not hook up he must either increase or decrease the jigging speed. Vertical Jigging can be extremely exciting, but it is takes a lot of work and practice to get the technique correct. The angler must be in good shape when it comes to vertical jigging as it requires a lot of stamina and cardio. Once you feel a fish strike a jig from 300ft down, I can almost guarantee that no matter how tired you are, you will be running on pure fishing Adrenaline! You also have to get a rhythm down…let the reel do the work. The Shimano Twin Power does the trick for me. It is expensive but man can that thing jig up the Tunas with little work. It is ultra light weight and do not tire out. Fish Get Picky..Truth I am going to use the Amberjack as an example. Amberjacks do not eat just anything and are not always hungry! The Amberjack will shut down and not eat due to fishing pressure so you have to use your brain to get them to eat. I have done several side by side tests over a two year period when I owned Jimyjigs USA and found the Amberjacks to be one “cranky” fish. Anyone can catch them when they are biting, but when they are not biting that is when I challenge you to go to the next level and figure it out. A commercial Amberjack fisherman will tell you the same thing, they get “cranky” at times and you gotta work for them. Yes, I believe color does matter with Amberjacks and vertical jigs. My secret jig is a chartreuse jig with a blue eye, The Blue around the eye is secret technique used by commercial Amberjack fisherman in Mexico. When fishing the Islamorada Hump, the fish tend to really key in on smaller jigs that highly reflective in silver color, on dark days the jigs that have super glow out fish the ones that do not. Purple, Blues, Silver, Golds and Chartreuse jigs tend to work very well on the Islamorada Hump. Some days color just does not matter, nor the type of jig you use. I have my best luck with Tunas using a silver colored 80-100 g jigs on days when the current is light. On days when it is ripping I have to beef up the jig size to 150 g-225 g jigs and even carry an ample supply of 300gram jigs. Look around you especially when you are fishing the Islamorada Hump and check out what the Tunas are eating. You can see the bait fish in the water on most days. Try to match the Hatch. Bait Strip Secret-Add Some Flair to the Your Vertical Jig Something new that I have not talked about yet or shared with anyone until now is my secret to catching Blackfins on the hump using Bait Strips. I attach a holographic bait strip to the vertical jig hook and then I tie small cable tie on the hook to keep it in place so it does not tear off the hook. As the jig falls this silver holographic artificial jig strips gets crush! Like I said earlier Tunas on the humps, especially if the fleet of boat is tossing out pilchards for live chum, get turned on to silver/white a silver and light color. In the sunlight this silver color down deep catches light reflection… not to mention the action of the bait strip attached to the jig is crazy! You have to purchase a pack of bait strips and try this out this winter. Its awesome! Check out the photo my favorite vertical jig rigged with bait strip in my show notes. Fluorocarbon Leaders Matters when it Comes to Vertical Jigging I always and I means always use Fluorocarbon for the abrasion resistance and the stealth. Fishing is mental, I have confidence in every jig I put down with a Fluorocarbon Leader. Use 30 lb.-40 lb. for Black Fin Tuna and Mutton Snappers Use 80 lb. -100 lb. for Amberjack and Big Groupers. Just telling you like it is even if you don’t like it. Thanks for listening now got get yourself some vertical jigs. The best vertical jigging spot in South Florida is the Islamorada Hump.
Jeff and Jason Talk Panfish Tactics Gear Big nasty pout and trout - Glowing and big Generator Catch Covers Jason - Pistol Bit ice auger Jeff - aquaview underwater camera. https://bit.ly/2Asgpq7 I used my brother in law Brian’s new aquaview underwater camera. We were on a small local lake. Maybe a Iowa lake, but a minnesota pond. I was out with the kids and it was a glorious day. The temperatures were really warm in the 40s. We got out for just a few hours, and did not catch any fish. But for the first time even though no fish came through the hole we saw fish. We were using a aquaview AV Micro plus. He got a really good deal on it and it was really fun. This unit is something you hold in your hand or put on your wrist. It has a very small camera, maybe the size of a large walleye jig. The screen was about 3.5 inches and it had a very slim cord to the camera. I would say no thicker than tip up line. I first opened the thin cover over the screen. It was really handy that it turned on when you did this, no power button to mess with. As I dropped it down the hold you really did not see much. In Fact I was unsure it was working. But as it got towards the bottom it started to show the weedy bottom. And also some sunnies. So even though I could not see them come through my hold we saw them in the lake. I used my flasher to figure out where the camera was in the water column. It showed up as it went down the hole. This was very helpful as you really saw nothing but blackness and a few bubbles as you went down. Their were some lighting options that are infrared and do help you see the fish much better. I was also surprised how well my jig showed up in the camera. It was this really bring light in a somewhat dark landscape. I hope the fish see my jig that well. It was a bright sunny day and the screen was hard to see in the light. I suspect it would be easier to see in the shack. I did not this thing is quite small and would fit down a fish hole. Not sure if it floats but did not want to find out. I tried this out on a non stained lake and it worked great. I hope to get one of these for my ice cave. It has an output to put it on the tv. That would be cool. Line update I am still on the fence on mono vs fluorocarbon. Mono never gets tangled and that Fluorocarbon i keep on having twist in my line. It seems to come out but I have not had that problem with mono. But then I love how it sinks in the water. More to come here but right now Monofilament is winning. Topic - Panfish Picking the spot Transitions from shallow to deep. I start out on my Navionics app to get to a general spot. I find that this worked pretty well. But if navionics says 20 feet, I have never found it to be exact. You will have to drill a few holes along the break until you get find 20 feet. Once I find the spot I will work from deep to shallow along the break and see where the fish are biting. Even if I have fish that are showing on my flasher and they will not bite i move. It's hard to but you have to leave those fish. Hole Hopping Once you have caught a few fish in a hole, sometimes they have seen what you have and grow tired of it. You can switch lures, but I find that if a lure has been working on a lake i stick with it. The color and action work I stick with them. Maybe this is something i need to work on and switch up my presentation but I usually stick with what I have used in the past. Maybe this new mystery tackle box I subscribed to will help me with that. I tried this on my last outing and it worked really well. I had caught at least 12 crappies and sunnies out of this honey hole, and then it cooled off. I decided to move just 15 feet away with the same presentation and I was able to catch a few right away, as soon as I dropped my lure in the hole. The Major Move Now when I am talking about hole hopping I am generally talking about the same area. Not a major move. That is something I do only after many holes have not produced. Meaning I have not caught a fish or the fish are small or not what I am looking for. This is required sometimes and you have to break out the Navionics again and look for some different structure. Tungsten Jigs I have a bunch of lures I use for panfishing. But the ones I go to over and over again are tungsten jigs. They are small and drop fast and are easy to fish with. I tip them with a wax worm and the crappies and sunnies love them. My favorite are the snow drop xl. I have found the pink and blue and green and yellow ones to work best for the waters i am on. I use the 1/32 oz. Thanks for tungsten for making these easy to fish. https://bit.ly/2AAW41N Spoons and minnows I also love using spoons and minnows for panfish. My typical setup will be a small frosty spoon or a small northland glow spoon. Frosty Spoon. Golden pirch, glow red, or silver moon light. Usually the 1/16 oz size. These are just the right size for a crappie minnow. I always have a bunch of these in my tackle. And I always buy at least 2 of each color. If its working and you loose one you have a backup, or if you need to share with a buddy. Depending how generous you are feeling. https://bit.ly/2QssGjo Northland Glow Spoons Or the Northland glow spoons. My current favorite is the 1/16 oz gold with a red glow shot. Of course this are consumable so that kinda stinks but if they work they work. https://bit.ly/2Qr1OQP Wax Worms When I use wax worked I get a bait puck. These things are great to keep your wax worms warm. Wax worms like the same temperatures that we humans do. I put them in my pocket and in a bait puck and this keeps them happy. I actually have a big one that fits the 100 pack of waxies when i buy them from the hardware store/ bait shop. I can leave them in the container and I have been fishing with the same ones for weeks. I just put them on the counter in the washroom and they stay happy. A few die, but that's ok. I just don't tell the wife i have wax worms in the same room as the washer and dryer. (oops she knows know but oh well, if she listens that is) https://beavertailbait.com/sample-page/ Time of Day Panfish are easier to catch during the day than some other fish like walleyes, but I still think the magic hour around dawn and dusk are best. For crappies I have caught them a lot at night also. But this can vary by like. Depth This was interesting. I always start fishing a foot off the bottom. But in my recent fishing trip i was in 18 feet of water and i had fish 2 feet under the ice to the bottom. I could hardly see my bait. What a problem. I did have my finder on wide beam which will show some fish further away. I found the fish at the bottom were very slow and did not want to bite. Now they could have been further away also. You really cannot tell the difference on a flasher. The fish in the middle and upper of the water column were much more active and would bit. It’s one of my favorite things to see that line on your flasher start to move to your bait when you jig. Moving it up and they follow it. These are the aggressive fish you are looking for. Not those ones that are down their and just stare at your jig. Or your camera if you have one. How aggressive How do you know when to jig hard and when not to. This is important slow fish want a dead stick or almost no jigging. When active fish will react better to jigging. Also know when to stop when they show up on your flasher. Not sure if this is correct but usually when they come in i will let it sit for a while.
In this video I am discussing different knots you can use to tie braided line to fluorocarbon or monofilament leaders. The FG Knot, Albright knot, and Uni to Uni knot are all options for this. There are other types of knots to do this, but these are the ones mentioned in the episode. The links for all the knots as mentioned in the video are below! I hope this episode helped get you pointed in the right direction!
