Recorded: AUG 26th 2024 Episode #292 is here, boys! Oh, and boy, do we have a White Whale of a guest for you! The one and only Peyton Manning invited us to his Knoxville bar, Saloon 16, to interview him. Will and Taylor sat down with "The Sheriff" in what can only be described as a "Peyton Manning Museum" of a room. Everywhere you looked on the walls, there was a legendary moment in the 2x Super Bowl Champion's career. Peyton opened up to The Boys about growing up as a Manning and the advice and wisdom his father, Archie, instilled in him. He spoke about his decision-making process when selecting Tennessee over Ole Miss, how he views leadership through the eyes of his father and other mentors, and what life looks like after retiring from the game. Peyton Manning's production company, Omaha Productions, is making huge moves in the sports digital/broadcast media industry. His show, "The Manning Cast," which he hosts with his brother Eli, is a fan favorite every Monday, and he is looking to build on their newfound success. Will and Taylor also keep it light for The Boys and dig into Peyton's rumored past of epic team pranks that he has pulled throughout the years. Eli is even brought up as potentially rivaling Peyton as the true "King of Pranks" in the Manning household. Knoxville, Denver, and Indy are all better places because Peyton Manning graced them with his incredible on-field talent and unmatched humility off the field. Looking back at his incredible stat sheet and long list of awards and trophies, it's easy to see why Peyton is often referred to as the "GOAT" by many around the world. In this week's intro, Will and Taylor break down their trip to A&M to watch the Fighting Irish take on the Aggies, their meeting with Shane Gillis, Johnny Manziel, and Von Miller, and they recap the CFB Week 1 matchups. Be sure to look out for The Boys' new show, The Locker Room. Their weekly gambling show will be covering CFB and the NFL this year, making sure no Tier 1's are left out of the mix. We are also offering a call-in segment for YOU to give The Boys your picks (stay tuned for more info from Will and Taylor). Delanie "The Mule" Walker will be joining the helm, with even a rotating guest picker each week. So, do me just the smallest favor... turn up those dials, smash that subscribe button, and LOCK IN!! The Boys love bringing content your way every week, especially when we have guests like these. Be sure to tell a friend if you enjoyed this episode and send a link their way. There's always room for 1 or 2 more on the bus. BIG HUGS... (and then lean in... a lil closer... come on...) tiny kisses... and have one heck of a Tuesday, boys! The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: Violent and disruptive student protests are nothing new but Leftists in the press romanticize such which often gives more coverage than such deserve. The pro-Hamas anti-Israel protests on our campuses are sometimes held within the proper bounds of protest and expression but in some cases what is attempted is a take-over and shutdown of campus activities. I review much Texas press over actions at the University of Texas at Austin. And just to remind you of what manly leadership is like, I play Ronald Reagan addressing the very issue many times over an almost 30-year period. That's because Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is a fellow Biden Leftist and pretends publicly it isn't a problem. Investing on the ASX has been pretty volatile since the beginning of the year. Some stocks have soared to new highs, while others have plummeted to reach new lows. All in all, the market really hasn't gone anywhere - which doesn't bode well for the future, considering that we have had 400 bps of interest rate rises over the past 18 months - and it's looking very likely that will become 425 bps in a few day's time. So where can investors find value on the ASX? To find out, Livewire's Chris Conway was joined by Martin Currie's Reece Birtles and SG Hiscock & Company's Hamish Tadgell for their analysis of five stocks both of them believe investors can either buy or hold right now. That's right, none of the stocks in this episode are sells... ... But please - FOR THE LOVE OF GOD - do your own research before buying any of the names on this list. Ok? Appreciate you. Note: This episode was filmed on Wednesday, 1 November 2023.
More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
The effects of sin are ravaging our world. Like the devastating locusts stripping the land bare in the book of Joel, we are stripped of meaningful worship owed to Father God. Let Andrew Ripp's song "For The Love Of God" remind you of God's love and his call to action displayed in this minor prophet book. And let the text lead us to action in our own devastated land. In this episode, I discuss the following: Taking a B.I.T.E. out of Scripture – this week's Bible Interaction Tool Exercises include: Share with a friend Read the text out loud Read in context Consult section headings Make observations Make a list Consult an overview Pray The Episode Guide for continued self-study Overcoming the obstacle of feeling inadequate when it comes to discussing Scripture Read the text together Get your bearings of the context using section headings Make some observations Write down any questions Pray and ask God to reveal what He wants you to see Learn from trusted outside resources Taking advantage of the "now" The Bible Project Overview of Joel - YouTube Video The importance of using even devastating circumstances as launching pads to share with our children - Joel 1:3 How tragedy impacted worship - Joel 1:9 The symbol of drink offerings - Holman New Testament Commentary - Amazon Paid Link The symbol of grain offerings - GotQuestions.org Article How Joel paralleled the joy of the people drying up like the land drying up - Joel 1:12 The action words God uses toward His people found in Joel 1 Rescue coming through repentance The references to the "day of the Lord" in Joel Joel 1:15 Joel 2:1 Joel 2:11 Joel 2:31 Joel 3:14 What Peter teaches about the "day of the Lord" in 2 Peter 3 People will deny that the day of the Lord will come Christ has delayed his return so people can respond to the message of salvation We must stay ready for the day of the Lord by living holy and godly lives The lyrics from our inspiration song remind us of what we've studied God's Word is interconnected in ways we'll never come to the end of. It's Week 12 of the college football season, and we should all keep Carla in our thoughts — because #MACtion continues to test Uncle Crappy's attention span, and because the game with the round orange ball kept her up waaaay past her bedtime. But once the hoopage FINALLY ended, we got our rankings, we got through a discussion of last weekend's craziness on the West Coast and we learned that Kurtis Rourke, OU's quarterback, wouldn't return after being injured in the first half at Ball State. Williams College running back Joel Nichols didn't let anything get in his way in last weekend's Biggest Little Game, and injuries didn't stop Cornell running back and Crappy nephew Drew Powell from a reception in the win over Dartmouth. And as we already know, pretty much nothing can keep AJ from his weekly slate of college football silliness. Except, perhaps, for this — the incredible mess that is the Big Ten West. Disasters are hard to look away from, so Carla and Crappy decided to lean in, devoting an entire block of picks on the Wild Wild West before moving through the rest of the schedule. Illinois at No. 3 Team Up North, Noon, ABC There is a new word for what Illinois has done over the last two weeks: They's berted, in a very big way. Unfortunately, The Big Hole is not the place you want to try to get unberted. Wisconsin at Nebraska, Noon, ESPN Two midseason head coach dismissals. Two interims. One teams comes in losing four straight. The other is a more respectable 3-2 in the last month. Sorry, Huskers. Northwestern at Purdue, Noon, FS1 With the surprise win over Illinois last week, Purdue finds itself with games against Northwestern and Indiana to close out the season. We like those odds, especially this weekend. Iowa @ Minnesota, 4 p.m., Fox As of Tuesday night, the AJ Fun Index for this monstrosity is 32.5. And we're still thinking the under is a good bet. Also: FLOYD OF ROSEDALE. And then, there were some other games… No. 4 TCU at Baylor, BIG NUDE We found out a week ago that the Horny Toads can also play defense. Which just gives them another tool to close out the Big 12 title in a couple weeks. 3:30 CBS No. 1 Georgia at Kentucky, 3:30, CBS It's the Peanut Butter Bowl. And Kentucky has no chance of winning. No. 2 Ohio State at Maryland, 3:30, ABC NO MORE INJURED RUNNING BACKS, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. USC @ UCLA, 8 p.m., Fox Oregon just berted all over itself a week ago, which means this old rivalry game means more, especially for the Trojans, than it has for years. Utah @ Oregon. 10:30 ESPN The hottest team in the PAC 12 right now? That might be Utah, which comes in to Eugene having won four straight. Not good news for the reeling Ducks. Carla wraps by saying Middle is a win away from bowl eligibility and that 2022 is the year that Bedlam isn't. Crappy engages in some Bobcat-related premature jocularity (THANKS, BOWLING GREEN) before turning his attention to the game that he's been waiting for allllllll season. Enjoy this week's games, boys and girls, and we'll see you back here next week.
We cover the week of October 9th to October 14th 2022, we talk about some more vaccine misinformation, Ezra's views on the war in Ukraine, government spending on the ArriveCAN app, getting an Air BNB for the Emergency Act Inquiry, and David Menzies dressing in drag to promote transphobia. Didn't your mother ever tell you that certain topics are not appropriate in polite society? Well… beyond sex, religion, and money - are FASHION and POLITICS. What? How can those two words even be in the same sentence? Are you nervous yet? This is a non-partisan issue, people. Regardless of your politics (not goin' there), one thing you should know is that fashion matters in politics (as in everything) and our ROCK STAR guest this week is here to explain it all to you – IN THE MOST DELIGHTFUL WAY! Meet Skye Ostreicher, otherwise known as The Political Personality. (Isn't that the mother of all oxymorons?) Skye is the host of City & State's online video series, Political Personalities with Skye, where she brings a fun flair to New York state and local government-related conversations. Her goal is to interview politicians to bring out their personality, not their politics. Who knew? Politicians are people, too? She also just happens to love fashion and has built her personal brand on her style choices (in a very male-dominated, opinionated world). Skye's passion is to interview elected officials who determine the future our democracy in order to humanize the person, not their political positions. And, WHY, you say, would Holly bring THIS to the Fashion Crimes Podcast? (FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!). Because just like fashion, people run from the things they are not comfortable with. “Fashion is your friend, not your enemy.” Sound familiar? Well, Skye is here to tell us in this episode that politicians have hobbies, favorites foods and families they love - just like you. So maybe, if you get to know those in leadership positions as humans, rather than political operators, you just might find that you CAN stomach to learn about candidates, political issues and the people who make the laws in this country – WITHOUT FEAR! Your Hostess with the Mostess, Holly Katz, admits early on that keeping up with politicians is “not her thing.” Well, obvi! Who enjoys that, let alone is not scared to death of the entire political system in general? Meet The Political Personality:Skye was born and raised on Long Island where she earned a dual master's degree from Stony Brook University in public health and public policy. She then went on to work in government affairs for eight years before being asked to spearhead the Mike Bloomberg presidential campaign efforts for Long Island at the end of 2019. During COVID, which coincided with the end of Bloomberg's presidential bid, unemployed and locked inside, Skye began an online video series on her Instagram profile, highlighting on-the-ground efforts by local elected officials. This series continued to grow into what it is today – after working with a few different media outlets, Skye has nearly 900 episodes total, all with the goal of highlighting the positive work of elected and appointed officials as they navigate the complexities of municipal and state government. She has a passion for connecting people and facilitating positive political relationships. And guess what? We are OBSESSED!! This week, Holly and Skye trade similar stories about stereotypes (politicians must dress conservatively), the mixed signals fashion can give in a professional or political environment – and how fashion can actually be a friend in politics! Gone are the days of Hillary's pantsuit and office outfits. Like everything, what you wear gives signals of who you are as a person and can affect how people view and accept you. Especially in politics. As politicians, if you dress too conservatively, are you out of touch and out of date? If you embrace fashion and style, are you spending your tax-supported salary irresponsibly? It seems to us that they cannot win. However, Skye informs us that if you get to know the person – who happens to be a politician, chances are you might find a way to engage in politics without being overwhelmed. Humanize the human! In this episode, Skye and Holly hash it out: How did Skye go from being a pre-med student to being a lobbyist and finally a political reporter? Learn about Skye's stand out personal style and love for fashion – and as a woman – how she has been successful building huge respect in the political world and her brand. What are the fashion and style mistakes she has seen people make in their professional arenas? How, as a young, attractive woman – with a major flair for fashion - did she get past “her looks: to being respected for her skills? Why fashion matters in politics and the positive impact it can have. How did Skye mix basketball and politics in the Bronx to bring people together? How can people become part of the democratic process – without fear or fighting – by understanding politics through people, not platforms? By the end – AS PER USUAL – Holly as adopted Skye as her new best fashion friend forever – and now they are planning a political fashion show during NYFW next September. The fashion gods have spoken – and these two shall meet. We loved meeting Skye! We're back from our summer break with a story that was 100% tailor made for our dumb little podcast and it's a mystery why we didn't cover it sooner. In 1919 the United States made the manufacture, transport, and sale of alcohol illegal on the federal level and everyone responded to that by finding new and excited ways to murder their brain cells with booze. In this episode we're taking a look at the movement that led to the outlawing of liquor and the totally predictable way American's reacted to being told what to do. It's a fun one so sneak a drink or two of hooch, settle in, and enjoy this episode of Hundred Proof History titled Prohibition: Potent Potables and Politics! If you enjoy the show please FOR THE LOVE OF GOD think about supporting us by subscribing to the Patreon. Episode 2. Take a shot of water every time I say "nervous system" and I promise you'll leave this hour super hydrated! hahaha but for real, the nervous system fascinates me. I have found there's such an integration piece that makes all the difference of learning about the scientific function AND noticing how it effects you in your body. In this episode I share with you some of the examples in the form of experiences that highlighted the effects of mine and how you can identify the effects of yours (and one major way you can help keep yours in flow.) We get into the introduction of energy centers in the body, also known as Chakras, and focus specifically on the Root Chakra and how it plays a part in your mental, emotional, physical and energetic well being. I talk a little bit about Reiki, the energy healing practice I am trained in, I mention a few synchronistic moments, guide you through an opportunity to light up your mind body connection and provide the reaffirming notion that NO ONE HAS THEIR SHIT TOGETHER, SO PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GIVE YOURSELF SOME GRACE! All the while creating a safe space to be even more of the human you already are. I hope you enjoy this weeks episode and always remember - take what fits and leave the rest! What does faith look like when we see it? Is it even possible to have faith and not show it? If saved by grace through Jesus, does that mean we don't have do anything? We have to learn how this balance of grace, works and faith functions properly because one day it will really matter. This is the final week in our series “For The Love Of God”.

Our new series ‘For The Love Of God” is all about why we do what we do. People that follow Jesus seem to be happy to give up time and resource to -why is that? This series is the answer to that question and explains what moves Christians to follow Jesus, despite the cost attached.

Lou Reed Hello friends! Welcome to Episode 04 of the #StillHere Podcast! Today, Amanda graces us with the story of conversion therapy survivor Lou Reed. This episode was recorded back in June of 2021 during Pride Month, and it was such an important story, we didn't want it to go by the wayside. In June this show was still in utero, so to speak. :) Nevertheless, Lou Reed's story is so very important, and it's an absolutely necessary tale of caution to all who still believe that conversion therapy is a necessary thing. Also, if you believe conversion therapy is a necessary thing, fuck you. Seriously. Thanks, and enjoy the show!
