New manager follows 'championship behaviors' The Hudson Valley Renegades opened their 2025 baseball season with a winning weekend, besting the Jersey Shore BlueClaws in two of three games at Heritage Financial Park (formerly Dutchess Stadium). The 'Gades lost the season opener, 3-1, on April 4 in front of 3,600 fans but bounced back, winning 8-7 on Saturday and 6-2 on Sunday. The team will finish a six-game road series with the Brooklyn Cyclones on Sunday (April 13) then return to Wappingers Falls for a six-game homestand with the Wilmington Blue Rocks beginning Tuesday. The Renegades, the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have a new and an "old" look going into their 132-game season in the South Atlantic League North Division. (The five minor-league levels are Rookie League, Single-A, High-A, Double-A and Triple-A.) The entire coaching staff is new, led by manager James Cooper, 42, who takes over from Nick Ortiz, who left for the Houston Astros organization. Cooper previously managed the Yankees' Single-A affiliate, the Tampa Tarpons, and coached at Grambling State University in Louisiana for 12 seasons. As a player, Cooper was drafted by the Astros in 2004 and played two seasons in the minor leagues and a season in Canada. Although the Renegades players range in age from 18 to their early 20s, this is an experienced team. The opening roster included 21 veterans of the 2023 and 2024 squads along with nine newcomers. Nineteen of the 30 players are pitchers. The squad has six of the Yankees' top 20 prospects, including infielder George Lombard Jr. (No. 2) and pitcher Ben Hess (No. 4). The others are pitchers Bryce Cunningham (No. 6), Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz (No. 8), Carlos Lagrange (No. 19) and Kyle Carr (No. 20). The No. 1 prospect, Jasson Dominguez, is on the Yankees' roster. The 2025 Renegades have a long tradition of winning to live up to. The team won 73 games last season and reached the league championship, where it lost to Bowling Green. It was the Renegades' 12th consecutive winning season. Since 2012 the Renegades have recorded the highest winning percentage in the minor leagues. Asked on April 1 if he feels added pressure coming to a franchise where winning is the default, Cooper said "for me to leave this place better than I found it, we have to win it [the title]. That'll be the mission." Cooper knows many of the players, having coached them in the past on other teams, including Lombard. "You understand what gets a player going if you've had a relationship over the years," he said. "We just want to do everything we can to develop these guys, put them in positions to go out here and dominate and give them a chance to move up." Before receiving a $3.3 million signing bonus in 2023, Lombard, 19, played shortstop at Gulliver Prep in Pinecrest, Florida. In 2024 he played 91 games with the Tampa Tarpons before joining the Renegades for 29 games. This spring Lombard attended the Yankees training camp. "The thing you learn from those guys is their attitude, the mindset and confidence they bring to the game every single day," he said. "It takes a different type of confidence to be successful at the level they are. "It was a good being here last year, getting a little taste of it," he said. "Physically, I'm just trying to get faster and stronger every year, trying to become an all-around better baseball player." Founded in 1994, the Renegades were part of the Texas Rangers' organization until 1996, when they moved to the Tampa Bay Rays. They won league titles in 1999, 2012 and 2017 and division titles three times since 2021. Heritage Financial Park is located at 1500 Route 9D in Wappingers Falls, just north of Beacon. For tickets, which start at $6, see milb.com/hudson-valley.

Renegades host special night for 12 young players The Hudson Valley Renegades, the New York Yankees High-A affiliate, put on a show Tuesday (Aug. 20) by welcoming 12 young baseball and softball players from Bhutan, a small country (pop. 782,000) nestled between China and India in the Himalayan Mountains. The game itself was a blowout as the 'Gades (59-54) overwhelmed the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 10-0, but the real story was in how the Bhutanese players ended up at the game at Heritage Financial Park just north of Beacon. Baseball wasn't even played in Bhutan until 2010, when Matthew DeSantis, an American who lives there, and Karma Dorji, a Bhutan native in Australia, co-founded the Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA). Within weeks, some 700 children had begun playing. That has since grown to more than 6,000. Bhutanese baseball caught the eye of the Renegades' general manager, Zach Betkowski, after DeSantis posted a photo on social media of a game being played there on a stone surface before a giant Buddha. Photos by Ross Corsair The result was Tuesday's Bhutan Night, which brought the 12 teenagers from Bhutan to Dutchess County, all expenses paid. On Sunday, the Bhutanese players toured the Hudson Valley and the next day attended a baseball clinic led by Renegades coaches and players. At Tuesday's game, the Bhutanese players each donned a gho, the traditional robe of their country, and took the field where Renegades players wore jerseys that featured the thunder dragon, an important element of Bhutan's flag. They also were invited to throw out a first pitch, saw their nation's flag flowing in centerfield and heard their national anthem echo through the stadium. To support the visit, the Renegades asked local businesses for contributions and auctioned off memorabilia, including a baseball autographed by Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole and the thunder dragon jerseys. In an on-field ceremony, the BBSA was presented with a check for $62,885. On Wednesday, the Bhutanese ballplayers traveled to New York City to receive a VIP tour of Yankee Stadium, participate in batting practice with the Yankees and attend their first big league game. (New York fell to the Cleveland Guardians, 9-5.) In an interview with Major League Baseball, DeSantis said he could envision a day when a Bhutanese player reaches the professional ranks.

This week Stig returns for his third appearance on the show. Stig has been exploring The Pillars Of Hercules and The Richat Structure once again since our last chat. Find Stig here:  YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@stig/featured Twitter - https://twitter.com/stigemup Tychos Event: https://lawfulrebel.com/this-june-15th-presentation-of-a-groundbreaking-astronomical-discovery/ From the web: The Richat Structure, also known as the Eye of the Sahara, has been proposed as a potential location for the legendary lost city of Atlantis. Here are some intriguing points: Geological Feature: The Richat Structure, located in Mauritania, is a deeply eroded domal structure that overlies a still-buried alkaline igneous intrusion. Similarities to Atlantis:Circular Design: The Richat Structure fits Plato's description of Atlantis, with its concentric circles. Location: While Plato explicitly placed Atlantis beyond the Pillars of Hercules (the Strait of Gibraltar), some researchers speculate that the Richat Structure could be a real-world inspiration for Atlantis. Cultural Memory: The story of Atlantis has been linked to memories of the Thera eruption, which affected Minoan settlements on Crete. Some argue that the Richat Structure preserves this memory12. However, significant challenges remain, including the structure's elevation and the lack of archaeological evidence supporting a once-inhabited city3. Whether the Richat Structure truly holds the secrets of Atlantis remains an enduring mystery.   The Pillars Of Heracles: The Pillars of Hercules, also known as the Gates of Gades, are legendary promontories flanking the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar. Here are some key points: Northern Pillar: Calpe Mons, identified as the Rock of Gibraltar, stands on the European side. Southern Pillar: The identity of Abila Mons (the southern pillar) has been debated. The two likely candidates are Monte Hacho in Ceuta and Jebel Musa in Morocco. Mythology: According to Greek mythology, Hercules performed the tenth of his twelve labours by fetching the Cattle of Geryon from the far West and bringing them to Eurystheus. This marked the western extent of his travels. Atlantis Connection: Plato placed the legendary island of Atlantis beyond the Pillars of Hercules. Symbolism: Renaissance tradition associated the pillars with the warning “Ne plus ultra” (nothing further beyond), cautioning sailors not to venture farther. Geographical Significance: The Strait of Gibraltar, formed by Hercules, connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. Historical References: Pliny the Elder mentioned the Pillars in his work. They have fascinated explorers, writers, and artists throughout history #atlantis #atlantisresearcher #prehistory _______________________________ Follow us here: https://allmylinks.com/the-amish-inquisition Signup for the newsletter, join the community, follow us online, and most importantly share links!  Producer Credits for Ep 325: Emma Bridges _______________________________ Leave us a voicemail: 07562245894 Message us here....follow, like, subscribe and share.

“Me parece increíble…cuatro años.

Welcome to Episode Ninety-One of Lucretius Today. I am your host Cassius, and together with my panelists from the EpicureanFriends.com forum, we'll walk you through the six books of Lucretius' poem, and discuss how Epicurean philosophy can apply to you today. We encourage you to study Epicurus for yourself, and we suggest the best place to start is the book, "Epicurus and His Philosophy" by Canadian professor Norman DeWitt. For anyone who is not familiar with our podcast, please visit EpicureanFriends.com where you will find our goals and our ground rules. If you have any questions about those, please be sure to contact us at the forum for more information. In this Episode 91 we will read approximately Latin lines 1002 through 1125 and we will discuss the details of how magnets work, and then shift to preliminary comments on disease and plagues. And we're happy to say that we have Joshua back with us this week, and Don has returned, so our panel is once again back to full strength. Now let's join Don reading today's text.Browne 1743[1002] And first, many seeds or effluvia are continually flying off from the stone, and by their blows disperse and drive away the air that liest between the magnet and the iron. This space being empty, and void made between, the corpuscles of the iron rush out suddenly in a train, all linked together, into this vacuum, so that the whole body of the iron ring, to which they are joined, immediately follows, for nothing is made up of seeds more entangled and connected together than the cold and tough substance of iron. And therefore (as we said before) it is the less to be wondered if the seeds cannot fly off from the iron into the void but those before must draw on those behind, and the whole ring follows at last; which it does, and continues to move, till it comes close to the stone and, fixed by secret bonds, sticks to it. And these effluvia of the iron that lie nearest the stone rush into the void every way, upwards or across, wherever the space is empty, for they are driven by the force of other seeds, nor have they any power to move upwards by their own natural motion.[1022] You may add another reason to account for this experiment, which is that the iron is driven forward, and assisted in its motion from without, for the air before the steel being more rare, and the space between more empty and void than it was, hence it is that the air that is behind strikes upon the back of the ring, and drives and forces it on; for the air that surrounds all bodies beats upon them with continual blows; but then only it drives on the iron when the space is empty on that side, and fit to retrieve it. The air therefore, which I observe, entering into the many pores of the iron, and subtly conveying itself into the little passages, thrusts and forces it on, as a ship is driven by wind and sails. And then all things must contain within some parts of air, for all bodies are rare, and full of pores, and air surrounds and pierces through everything. This air therefore that lies concealed in the body of the iron is always tossed with violent motion, and beats upon the ring, and agitates it within, and so the iron is carried on toward the void to which it was moving, and whither all its force was first directed.[1042] But sometimes the substance of the iron will fly from the magnet; it will withdraw sometimes as well as press towards it. For I have seen little Samothracian rings of iron, and filings of steel, put into a brazen pot; and the stone being applied to the bottom of the vessel, the iron will leap and dance upwards, so eager is it to be gone and avoid the stone. And this great aversion arises from the interposition of the brass, for when the particles of the brass have entered and filled up the open pores of the iron, then come the effluvia of the loadstone; and finding the passages of the iron full, and no more open for them to pierce through as before, they beat upon the bits of iron and drive them forward with all their force. And thus the particles of the stone, passing through the brass, throws the iron from it, which otherwise it would take to its embrace.[1056] Do not be surprised to find that the effluvia of the stone do not drive away other bodies from it in the same manner, for some remain unmoved upon the account of their weight; gold is of this sort. Others because they are rare, and their pores are wide, so that the particles that fly off from the stone pass through without touching, and therefore can have no power to move them, of this kind is the texture of wood. The nature of iron is placed between these two, and when its pores are full of those brazen particles, then it is that the effluvia of the magnet beat upon it and drive it off. Nor is the friendship between the loadstone and the steel so singular a case.[1065] I can produce instances of many things whose natures are peculiarly fit and suited to each other. And first, your observe that stones are cemented together only by lime, and boards are so joined together by glue made of the ears and genitals of bulls, that the solid wood of a table will sooner split than the strong joints of glue will start or fall asunder. Wine will mingle with spring water, when heavy pitch and smooth oil will not. The purple color of the Murex incorporates so into the body of wool that it can never be taken out; no, not if you strive to recover it to its native whiteness by all the waves of the sea, not if you wash it in all the water of the ocean. There is but one mineral that will solder gold and silver together, and brass is joined only by white lead. How many things of this nature might be produced? To what purpose? I would by no means lead you so far out of the way, nor give myself so much trouble in such inquiries. I have many things yet to explain, but I shall be as short as possible. Those things whose textures so mutually answer to one another that the cavities of this thing agree with the plenitudes of that, and the cavities of that with the plenitudes of this, may be conjoined most easily and in the strictest manner. And some things may be so joined to others as if they were fastened together by hooks and rings, and in this manner it is that the loadstone seems to be connected to the steel.[1090] Now I shall teach from whence diseases spring, and whence arise the pestilential blasts that spread their deadly poison and destroy both man and beast. And first (as I have said) the seeds of many things are ever flying through the air; some are sound and vital to mankind, and others bring on disease and death: these when they arise and taint the sky, and air becomes infected. Now the morbid force of all diseases, every pestilence, comes either from without, as clouds and mists fall from the heavens above, or rises from the earth itself when, drenched by fierce and unseasonable showers, and pierced by the sun's scorching beams, it sends unwholesome vapors through the air.[1103] Have you not seen that those who search out foreign lands, and leave their country and their native homes, contract new pains from the strange water, and the air they breathe? The mighty difference of the air occasions this, for don't you think the air of Britain is widely different from the air of Egypt, where he North Pole is never seen? Or that the air of Pontus differs from that of Gades and AEthiopia, where the black race of men are thoroughly sodden with the sun's heat? The four quarters of the air, we may suppose, are different in their temper and their quality, because they are opposed to the four quarters of the earth, where men, we find, in every region widely disagree in face and complexion, and are tormented with diseases peculiar to the countries where they live. The leprosy was known first in Egypt, near the river Nile, and no where else. The Athenians are tortured with the gout, the Acheaens with sore eyes. So every country is an enemy to one part and member of the body or other, and this must be imputed to the air.[1119] And when the morbid pestilential air of a country, remote from us, moves from its first abode, and the fatal vapor begins to advance, it creeps first by degrees like a cloud or mist, and disturbs and changes every thing as it goes. And when it comes to the climate where we live, it corrupts every thing, and makes it like itself, and therefore is deadly and destructive to us.[1125] This wasting plague, these sad infectious blasts, fall either in the water or fix upon the fruits or other food of men, or on the provender of cattle, or they may hang suspended in the air above, that when we draw our breath we needs must suck this poison, mingled with it, into our bodies. In the same manner the pestilence seizes on the cattle, and the contagion infects the sheep. And the danger is the same whether we change our climate and travel into a country where the air is pernicious to us or whether Nature of her own accord brings the cruel infection from abroad, or introduces a disease we are not used to, which upon its first approach may prove hurtful to us.

I podcastens afsluttende kommentar – På Falderebet – funderer Lasse Jensen over endnu et selvmål i valgkampen.

Welcome to the Inside Edge, the Podcast that makes betting on the Big Bash as easy as possible! In Stats Insider's inaugural BBL podcast - with a working title of "Episode 1" - host Hedge introduces the audience to Ritchie and Nick from SIHQ, who clearly, have been studying the form leading into Wednesday nights BBL Season Opener. After a bit of education on who and what Stats Insider is and does, and how the revolutionary new cricket model works, it's time to get stuck into the juicy, meaty, goodness that is Big Bash cricket.   While touching on the Futures markets for each team, the focus is on the first two games of the season. 6.25 Brisbane Heat vs Adelaide Strikers The Stats Insider model loves the Strikers, but with Travis Head on national duty with Australia, the lads look at how the Strikers look without their talismanic batsman. Colin Ingram, Matt Short and Jon Wells get a mention on the batting side, while last season's highest wicket-taker Rashid Khan and 'death bowler' Ben Laughlin also get a wrap up from the boys.  Unfortunately, Test hero Peter Siddle gets a knock from Hedge as someone who's greatest talent is "running in hard." The Heat look appropriately priced when compared with Stats Insider's Simulations. So much hinges on the "Bash Brothers" opening partnership of Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum, but Hedge feels that Joe Burns at first or second drop could be invaluable to Brisbane's fortunes, and that Swepson looks to be value for Heat most wickets. Stats Insider's BBL data specialist, Ritchie, feels the young (but unknown) Afghani spinning gun, Mujeeb, might be a better wicket-taking option than Swepson. Ritchie also identified a particular weakness in Chris Lynn's game, thinking the elite leggie, Rashid Khan, might be able to exploit Lynn in Game 1.  14.15 Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers The lads feel this looks a little David vs Goliath with the powerhouse Scorchers coming East to face the recently rebuilt Melbourne Renegades. Ritchie gives us a sneak peek into some potential betting value on this game so keep an eye on the match pages prior to bat toss!  Hedge thinks the Scorchers' only issue might be their absolute quality bowling lineup... "Is there such a thing as having too many good bowlers?" Tye, Willey, Richardson, Coulter-Nile, Behrendorff and even skipper Mitch Marsh will all be used as strike bowlers at times, showing extreme depth in that pace department. The team all feel the Renegades might be some value at the wooden spoon / most losses markets following the loss of some elite talent in Brad Hodge, Brad Hogg, Dwayne Bravo and James Pattinson, not sure what to expect from the likes of Cooper, Ludeman and Dan Christian, while the bowling of Nabi and Cameron Boyce will be leaned on heavily to get the 'Gades through their 20 overs, hopefully taking a few wickets too.  18.45 BBL Team Futures Hedge and Nick lament the lack of talent at the Stars, while Ritchie talks through the differences between the (nearly) straight player swap of James Faulkner and Dan Christian and the impact they can have on their respective franchises. The Hurricanes are inconsistent but the talent has shown they can take Hobart all the way if they can put it all together. the Sixers will give opportunities to some young fellas who will get game time around the likes of Joe Denly, who may or may not be the first player to score a ton and take a hattrick in the same T20 game...  26.30 The boys give their players of the tournament... Plenty of value on offer!  www.statsinsider.com.au/bbl
