Hearing God's voice isn't reserved for the spiritual elite—it is the birthright of every son and daughter. In this final message of our Supernatural pillar series, Dan Weber breaks down the practical mechanics of hearing the Father, moving us from mystery to maturity. Using 1 Corinthians 14 and his own journey from "Roofer Dan" to revivalist, he demystifies the prophetic process. He explains that hearing the voice (Revelation) is just the beginning. The real stewardship happens in understanding what it means (Interpretation) and knowing when to act (Application). If you've ever wondered, "Was that God, me, or the pizza I ate?" this message will equip you with a simple filter to distinguish the Father's voice from the noise. It's time to move past the fear of getting it wrong and into the joy of conversation with the One who is always speaking. In this powerful conversation, Jenilee Samuel sits down with Heather Shriver Burns — master coach, spiritual director, and host of the Seek First CEO podcast — to explore the real reasons many believers struggle to hear God clearly.Heather shares her personal journey from a checklist faith and high-achievement mindset to a deep, intimate, two-way relationship with God. Through loss, busyness, trauma, and relational experiences, she discovered that silence from God often isn't God being distant — it reflects what's crowded our inner world.Together Jenilee and Heather unpack:1. Why God can feel silent even when He's speakingHeather shares how her faith was more obligation than intimacy before a season of loss — and how that shifted her ability to hear God.2. How trauma and nervous system stress can block spiritual hearingBusyness, unresolved hurts, and fight-or-flight states create inner noise that makes hearing God harder than it should be.3. The power of human connection in spiritual claritySome of the clearest messages from God come through people — especially when our own connection feels muted.4. How everyday moments become God-encountersHeather and Jenilee talk about learning to notice God in mundane life — not just in quiet time or special moments.5. The importance of honest communication with GodLetting go of performance, including honesty about fear, loss, and confusion, opens up the way God actually speaks.6. Why community and relationships matter in spiritual growthWe're not meant to grow in isolation — our connections with others test, refine, and expand our ability to hear God's voice.

What does it really mean to hear God? In James Week 2, Pastor Aaron McRae explores how genuine listening to God's Word is proven not by information received, but by lives transformed. Using the image of a hearing test, James challenges us to examine whether we are merely hearing Scripture—or actually responding to it with obedience.Walking through James 1:19–27, this message unpacks how hearing God begins with listening more than speaking, slowing our anger, humbly welcoming the Word, and intentionally putting it into practice. Pastor Aaron highlights James's warning against self-deception: when we hear without doing, we convince ourselves we're growing when we're not. True faith is not just orthodox belief but lived obedience that expresses itself in transformed character and compassionate action toward others. This teaching invites us to quiet the noise of our lives, tune our hearts to God's voice through Scripture, and respond with concrete, faithful steps. When we hear like God intends, our hearts are aligned with Him—and our lives become attentive to the needs of the people around us.ResourcesJames Study Journal – Weekly Scripture readings, reflection prompts, and space to apply the teaching personally or with a group - https://hillsidechurches.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/James2026_Journal_FINAL.pdf Discussion Guide – Designed for small groups, coffee groups, or families to process the message together - https://hillsidechurches.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Discussion-Guide-1.18.26.pdf Scripture Focus: James 1:19–27; Psalm 85:7–8Recommended Reading:James by Douglas MooJames by George M. This episode explores the biblical concept of the “secret place,” emphasizing intentional solitude and prayer as the primary arena where identity as sons and daughters of God is formed, drawing from Matthew 6 and Psalms to show that true spiritual transformation does not happen in public, but in hidden communion with the Father. The speaker contrasts modern culture's fixation on noise, self‑promotion, emotional validation, and constant stimulation with God's invitation to silence, obedience, and submission, teaching that the secret place is not for self‑care or emotional relief, but for dying to self and becoming like Christ. Through personal stories, Scripture, historical Christian voices, and psychological research, the episode argues that freedom from fear, clarity of calling, and spiritual authority are birthed through faithful, disciplined time alone with God, where trust is built, idols are dismantled, and God's will takes precedence over personal feelings or ambition

As a church, we recognize that if we are to live out the great commission, then one thing is essential: We must be a people who hear God. In the weeks ahead, we'll talk about the practical ways God speaks - through Scripture, through prayer, through other people, and through our circumstances. Additionally, we must recognize that hearing God is not first a skill to master, but a relationship to tend. God is speaking, we just need to position ourselves to hear him. For the second message in our series, Lead Pastor Grant Bruscoe teaches out of Luke's narrative of the road to Emmaus. We'd love to connect with you! God forms his people through ordinary, grace-filled rhythms. Rather than treating spiritual habits as tools for self-improvement, we should see them as places where God meets us, pours out his grace, and patiently shapes who we are becoming. One of those places is in his Word. Our God is a speaking God, and he designed us longing and needing to hear his voice. It's a primary way he shapes us. God speaks to form us, reviving our soulds with his Word and guiding us as we listen attentively.

Hearing God's voice is something Jesus tells us is possible for all of his sheep. But if we go into it with the wrong ideas about it, it can cause us to miss the voice of God and become frustrated and quit listening for it. In this message Pastor Joel walks through some guidelines (five of them, to be exact) to consider what will put us in a position to hear the voice of God well in our day to day lives. They have to do with the centrality of grace and God speaking, how God sorts out our hearts when he speaks, why we should be looking for God to speak to us in quieter ways rather than with bright, neon lights, and more.

We look for things and stuff to make us happy, don't we? Especially in the United States, where we are blessed with abundance, people from all walks of life look for more and more. That can bring us to an empty place. Spiritually and emotionally…we begin to look in the wrong places. But as we've discussed this week, that spark of joy we look for can be found only in Jesus. Everything else is, yes, clutter.John 16:24 says, “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”This plays out over and over every day. We see this in dramatic ways when a famous person turns from materialism and empty fame and finds Jesus. Someone like that who has experienced uncommon wealth, comes to a place where Jesus must be dealt with. How about you? Are you tired of your empty pursuits? Has the excitement over a new career or a new car worn off? If you're listening and nodding, or maybe you're not even sure, do this today: tell Jesus what's in your heart and what's in your mind. He said to ask.Ask.Receive His joy. Then you'll be complete. You will be uncluttered. He's literally waiting for you to sit down and tell Him all about it.Let's pray. Lord, refresh us and renew us. Clean our hearts and minds. We know you can and will. We receive that! In Jesus' name, amen. Change your shirt, and you can change the world! In a world that feels louder than ever, many of us are quietly asking the same questions: Can I really hear God? How do I know it’s Him? And what do I do when He speaks? That’s why I’m so grateful for this week’s episode of The Love Offering Podcast, where I sit down with Bible teacher and author Rachael Groll to talk about her book, Knowing God’s Voice: What Female Prophets of the Bible Teach Us About Recognizing, Trusting, and Obeying God. In our conversation, Rachael helps us slow down and look closely at the lives of women in Scripture who truly heard from God—and faithfully responded. Some of their stories are familiar; others are rarely taught, but all remind us that God has always spoken to women and continues to do so today. Together, we talk about: How to discern the difference between God’s voice, our own thoughts, and the voice of the enemy How to grow in confidence when God is leading you to take a step of obedience What Scripture teaches us about women using their voices for God’s purposes How the historical and cultural context of biblical women brings clarity and encouragement for us today This conversation is deeply rooted in God’s Word and gently reminds us that listening to Him is not reserved for a select few—it’s an invitation for every believer who desires to walk closely with Him. If you’ve ever felt unsure, overlooked, or hesitant to trust what God is stirring in your heart, I think this episode will encourage you in meaningful ways. You can listen to the full episode wherever you get your podcasts, and I pray it helps you listen closely, trust more deeply, and walk faithfully in the light God gives you—one step at a time.
